- Goblin, on 05/05/2008, -0/+13Halo 27: The Slip. New 10 track album has just been posted, for free, including FLAC, Apple Lossless, 24/96 Wav and MP3
http://theslip.nin.com
http://digg.com/music/Nine_Inch_Nails_releases_new ...- DustinHill, on 05/05/2008, -0/+4I'm glad you pointed that out. This story was obsolete by the time it hit the front page. Trent just moves too fast for Digg to keep up. :)
- MavRevMatt, on 05/05/2008, -3/+21We already knew about May 5th. Most people are expecting an EP release with this new single and Discipline or something. Great to know that his plan for releases seems to be working. It's a big "***** you" to the record labels. Reznor's getting more buzz then they can without actually doing much of anything, and he's still making money while giving the fans what they want. ***** awesome.
- haiduz, on 05/05/2008, -1/+15its even better than that.

THX NIN/trent!
- haiduz, on 05/05/2008, -1/+15its even better than that.
- JMilton, on 05/05/2008, -2/+17Nine Inch Nails are giving me more and more reasons to love them.
- bigcomedown, on 05/09/2008, -0/+0The absolute greatest band excuse me man of this time and your going to say that this was crazy because Radiohead well Trent Reznor is beyond Radiohead music sorry Trent is a genius and apparently they aren't
- youtellme8, on 05/05/2008, -14/+1Free releasing on the internet is the future of music, and I love it! Where Radiohead goes, others follow.
- SHv2, on 05/05/2008, -2/+4Actually Radiohead went about it the wrong way at first. By letting people pick their price they made the simple mistake that PEOPLE AREN'T GOING TO PAY FOR IT. NIN on the other hand gave you a portion of the album for free and then said give us $5 and you get the rest. That is the way to do it. Go NIN, rock on.
- Phasmorphage, on 05/05/2008, -0/+6You know Trent had the idea first right...?
Also, does it matter who started it first? It's a win-win for everyone regardless
- johnmcd, on 05/05/2008, -5/+29Wasn't this on digg front page a couple days ago?
Oh well, It's still pretty sweet!!!- nienhulm, on 05/05/2008, -1/+7Yeah, I thought I saw it a couple days ago too. But I agree, anything with Trent Reznor is worth mentioning again.
- dvslamont, on 05/05/2008, -0/+0AMEN!
- Surferess, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2First they released the song Discipline for free, that was on the front page of Digg. Then a couple of days ago the single Echoplex and now this is the whole album, called The Slip, for free, I believe.
Do a digg search on nin to see them all.
- cnot3, on 05/05/2008, -2/+10Yeah, it was on the front page a few days ago... but Trent Reznor and NIИ kick ass, dugg.
- jerrycurley, on 05/05/2008, -12/+0No...they don't. I mean, unless you are 12.
- DustinHill, on 05/05/2008, -1/+3There's no need to be mean about this. It's all personal preference, and as long as it's not hurting someone else it's alright with me.
- StolenLamp, on 05/05/2008, -1/+6Haha, props on the backwards N.
- jerrycurley, on 05/05/2008, -12/+0No...they don't. I mean, unless you are 12.
- djcreamy, on 05/05/2008, -1/+4Musicians make money through performances. The internet is taking us back to the 50s, gotta love it.
- jerrycurley, on 05/05/2008, -2/+1People downloaded music in the 50s?
- darkzeroman, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1What's wrong with people making money off their music? Not everyone band can go everywhere and not every listener can(or wants to) attend concerts.
- badwithcomputer, on 05/05/2008, -9/+4...i'm still planning on downloading this via bittorrent.
- cnot3, on 05/05/2008, -6/+1me too, iDon'tLike iLike.
- Loonacy, on 05/05/2008, -0/+4Why not just download it from nin.com?
- belly917, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1nin.com links directly to torrents
at least for the flac files that I downloaded, mp3 may have been hosted on nin.com
- belly917, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1nin.com links directly to torrents
- melodrameric, on 05/05/2008, -1/+4Actually Trent is supposed to update nin.com with all the news any minute now...
- DanMiller, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2Yeah, I keep refreshing my RSS reader.
- IceCreamMatt, on 05/05/2008, -0/+5Woohoo Free Album!!!
- DanMiller, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2Yeah, I keep refreshing my RSS reader.
- Phasmorphage, on 05/05/2008, -0/+8I love NIN
Can't wait for them to come around here on tour :D- DanMiller, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1I'm hittng Dallas and OKC with my friends.
- Gatesophile, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2I'm seeing them at Lollapalooza. Along with Radiohead. Should be fun.
- Gatesophile, on 05/05/2008, -1/+5Trent Reznor, I'll have your children.
- jerrycurley, on 05/05/2008, -8/+0pathetic. really.
- Gatesophile, on 05/05/2008, -0/+5Not as pathetic as you wasting your time on something you apparently don't like by posting a bunch of comments.
- jerrycurley, on 05/05/2008, -8/+0pathetic. really.
- dwninjungleland, on 05/05/2008, -10/+2This would be awesome, if I liked NIN at all...
- TheLightItBurns, on 05/05/2008, -9/+1Its a whole new 9 track album!
- illbient, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2The Slip has 10 tracks
- Gatesophile, on 05/05/2008, -0/+50http://theslip.nin.com/ EVERYONE GO NOW
- CoyotesFan84, on 05/05/2008, -1/+7If you take a look at the NIN website, they're offering their ENTIRE NEW CD available for free. I wish I could donate. I've been following NIN since they came out pretty much. I love that they are giving back to the fans that have supported them throughout the years.
- VinnieDaMac, on 05/05/2008, -1/+4To be honest, it doesn't even have to be free. I'd be willing to pay $5 for an album or $.50 per song. $15 - $20 for an album or $1 - $2 per song is too expensive. To pay only $.50, would save you the trouble of looking for the album on torrent sites, downloading the full album for the one of two songs you actually want, would be legal, and would give money to musicians. Assuming these are high quality 256kb .mp3 files with no digital restrictions.
- CoyotesFan84, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2Ghosts and The Slip have been offered in a variety of encodings, all DRM free. Some for the average .mp3 user and high definition WAVE for the audiophile. NIN is on the forefront of digital distribution.
- jerrycurley, on 05/05/2008, -4/+0I just don't get why you think that YOU should set the price, rather than the market as a whole. Do you also think a gallon of milk should cost $1.25 because that is what YOU want to pay?
It has already been established that people do NOT torrent because of price. The torrent because it is easier. So lowering the price to some arbitary number that YOU alone came up with will do no good. You have done zero studies o show that if the price were cut to 50 cents that more than twice as many people would pay for it.- DustinHill, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Where is the link to the study that has shown this?
Also, I tried to teach my mother how to use uTorrent along with how to effectively search mininova and the pirate bay, but she got a bit confused by it all. But when I showed her iTunes she had very few problems. I hate iTunes, but watching her struggle to use torrents made me realize why it's so popular.
Again, I'd love to see a link to that study. - Loonacy, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3What exactly do you think the market is made up of? It's all about individuals deciding how much they want to pay.
- VinnieDaMac, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Wow, calm down. I was just saying how much I, myself, would pay for music if I had to, I'm not speaking on behalf of the whole market, even though I, as an individual, am apart of this market that you speak of.
Also, where's this study where it's been established that people don't use torrents because of prices. Are we talking torrents in general or torrents of intellectual property? There's a difference. Also, I'm more likely to say I'm using torrents because "it's easier" than because of prices to justify my illegal downloading. You might be right though, it's probably not about price, it's probably about having to pay anything in general, whether it's $1 or $20.
- DustinHill, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Where is the link to the study that has shown this?
- FullMetalNIN, on 05/05/2008, -5/+1Another new NIN album. Wtf.
- Asheis, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3This is an entirely different monster! Ghosts was just an instrumental thing, this, on the other hand, is a full on NIN album. With all the works!
- FullMetalNIN, on 05/05/2008, -0/+5Still, Trent must be working his ass off to be releasing this stuff so fast. Albeit, the new model is definitely speeding up the process, creating this much material in such a short amount of time is unprecedented. Especially for Nine Inch Nails, who have a habit of taking a 5 year absence before releasing new stuff. Totally amazing!
- Asheis, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3This is an entirely different monster! Ghosts was just an instrumental thing, this, on the other hand, is a full on NIN album. With all the works!
- chambana, on 05/05/2008, -6/+2the artist's creativity in finding a distribution path does not make the artist great. great music does. it seems more and more that digg only evaluates the artist for how they're embracing the Net, not how their current music is actually sounding.
- DanMiller, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2I think you miss the point. The more artists that embrace the internet and find creative ways to market will push the whole industry in the proper direction. At the end of the day it isn't about if you personally like the music, it's about getting those who do to buy.
- VinnieDaMac, on 05/05/2008, -1/+3Everyone has their own taste in music. If you don't like their music, I respect that. Personally, I like both of these songs they released and I probably would have never heard them otherwise.
- motbob, on 05/05/2008, -4/+6The emails aren't getting to me; is anyone else having his problem?
- jackajj, on 05/05/2008, -2/+1i am
- DanMiller, on 05/05/2008, -1/+1I am
- Gatesophile, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3it actually just takes a while, but I just got mine.
- DanMiller, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2Just got my link
- BradGroux, on 05/05/2008, -2/+2WOOT! The new album is entirely free!!!
- motbob, on 05/05/2008, -5/+6scratch that, bury me
- triont, on 05/05/2008, -1/+2You'll never tell me what to do!!!

I decided to post it since im sure many other fans could find this info useful and I am not aware of the performance page that the presale is avaliable on. I suppose I could have looked for one, but then again that would be me doing research before making a comment online and that type of thing is unheard of:)
- StolenLamp, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1THANKS! Hell yeah, he's coming to Dallas, ***** yeah, I love the AAC.

all files are 100% DRM-free. - jerrycurley, on 05/05/2008, -7/+2I am out of high school, and have no difficulties talking to women. Do I still have to check out NIN.com tomorrow?
- shawnanigans, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Can this kind of distribution really work for up and coming bands though? I would love it if it could, but we sort of need people to seperate the good music from the bad because we can't know every artist. And more importantly we need someone to help get the word out on what is good.
- Gatesophile, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3I would never trust the recording industry to tell me what's good.
- FullMetalNIN, on 05/05/2008, -2/+2Instead let digg dictate what's good and what's bad.
- Kronos6948, on 05/05/2008, -0/+7It's not real effective for up and coming bands. You need to have a large fanbase for this to actually work.
- Gatesophile, on 05/05/2008, -0/+3I would never trust the recording industry to tell me what's good.
- FullMetalNIN, on 05/05/2008, -8/+2The album sucks. I guess it's false-hope to believe he'll put out another album that would rival the fragile, or downward spiral, but they should at least put out something mediocre.
- Gatesophile, on 05/05/2008, -1/+3I actually think it's pretty good.
- pentak, on 05/05/2008, -8/+1Why is everyone on Digg so greasy-assed-gay for Trent? Are you all gonna drink the Purple Flavor-Aid too?
- H2Glitch2007, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Trent's going to need more servers...

- HiT0, on 05/05/2008, -6/+3No offense meant to NiN, but lets be a bit serious here: almost every song in this album begins with the exact same drum solo/beat, and when I finally reached the last song of the album, I was glad it was finally over (my ears were starting to bleed already). I applaud their effort to reach out to the free/open generation, but their newest album is garbage compared to their previous albums.
- HiT0, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1To each his own I guess.. But a turd for free, is still a turd.
- califortune, on 05/05/2008, -8/+2It's already been done. Radiohead.
- Culyt, on 05/05/2008, -1/+3No Radio Head's release was a marketing stunt, the files where of low quality and under a copyright, they then sold the album with the high quality and missing tracks with a normal record label.
But it was done before, by NIИ with Ghosts, despite only having 1/4 of there tunes downloadable free on their site, they actually released the entire album under a Creative Commons license, basically saying you can file share it if you want to, or use it on youtube videos. Since their not going to go around suing individual people, why not just let people.
In fact it has been done before, by thousands of people, just not much in the way of famous names. There are 60,000+ songs on Jamendo and 70,000+ on Megatune.
This is under a Creative Commons license so you can legally redistribute it, use it in free videos. Free and Freedom are different things.
