- Lukesed, on 07/07/2008, -1/+8It's like walking, only you have to concentrate to not fall over!
- digggggggggg, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2How about walking? I hear it's good for you, and it doesn't cost thousands of dollars.
- Tenoq, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3@ digggggggggg -
I hear walking is bad for your beer gut though.
- jaredcat, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3a failure
- dlk289, on 07/08/2008, -0/+0These were the same people that may an extraordinary mechanical arm to fulfill a contract with the military for amputees. The video about it was on Digg awhile back. I'm pretty excited about that they may make.

- bleutuna, on 07/07/2008, -1/+4The ORIGINAL story is on Page 2! Christ, way too fast for a duplicate!
- bluvapor, on 07/07/2008, -7/+3Segway is a dieing product. Today, who wants to pay 5K (?) for a little electric scooter when you can go to target and pick up one that you can actually sit down in, and drive 5-6 miles to work in for $200. Seriously, no wonder he left. Everyone is broke!
yay for US economy killing off big companies- WomensUnderwear, on 07/07/2008, -3/+2illiterate ponce
- digggggggggg, on 07/07/2008, -1/+5There are scooters you buy at Target that you can drive to work for $200?
Do you mean a razor kick-scooter? You can't sit down in those. A Vespa costs thousands and you can't buy them at Target. A rascal-type scooter probably costs even more than that and I can't see anyone driving 5-6 miles in those.
I'm not exactly sure what you mean here. - WhiteIce89, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1At which point did Segway become a "big" company? All they sell is one product, which just happens to be a miserable failure.
- peestandingup, on 07/07/2008, -5/+7Didn't Steve Jobs claim early on that "it" will "be bigger than the PC" & that "they are going to redesign cities to accommodate it"??
- trecko, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Nope, he thought it sucked: http://hbswk.hbs.edu/archive/3533.html
- bbatsell, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Er... no. Perhaps you're thinking of Dean Kamen, who invented it?
There was an early meeting between the principals at which Jobs was present and, as the story goes, he wasn't a fan and made that abundantly clear.
Edit: Guess I should have refreshed before replying :)
- theNazz, on 07/07/2008, -4/+1Coming up next... iSegway, with iPod ready docking station and built in speakers...
- FredFredrickson, on 07/07/2008, -0/+7With the unparalleled popularity of the Segway under his belt, this man will clearly make Apple's next line of products the next big thing in computing.
- chesscat, on 07/07/2008, -3/+2I'm surprised he didn't go to Microsoft since they seem more expert at crashing things.
- virtualonliner, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1Get ready for ugly products from Apple too?
- inchrnt, on 07/07/2008, -2/+1ok, so when does my iphone get a gyroscope?
- jisrael, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3in a year ago.
it's called an accelerometer...

- branndon, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Great, now apples new multi-touch products will use our hands, and our feet.
- nytejade, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1This is curious. Didn't Steve Jobs heavily criticize the design of the Segway a few years ago?
- quomen, on 07/07/2008, -2/+5Why are there so many segway haters? I love that people are thinking up new and innovative products regardless of whether you would use it or not.
- pathfinder, on 07/07/2008, -2/+2WTF is that guy talking about? "the end game of that trend has re-emphasized the differentiating power of hardware design"? The pretentious bus is pulling out of the depot, dude, and you're driving.
- Shadoblak, on 07/07/2008, -0/+5***** sellout
- judicar, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1Use prepositional phrases much? How about...
"Segway CTO joins Apple as VP of Product Design." - sq2shooter, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Being on a team that promised to change the way cities were built then delivering a product that didn't even come close to meeting expectations, must have been hell. At least he will be going to a company with a competent marketing team.
- flipmeat, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3He seems to have a fine command of hyperbole. He ought to last about 2-3 years. Apple treats bozos as damage and routes around them.
- Mechenger, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2I haven't spoken with Doug in years, but it was always nice knowing he was right down the road at Segway. He was one of the people who interviewed me when I started at DEKA, back when he was on the iBOT/Fred program and the Segway's grandmother, Ginger, was rolling around the halls after hours.
I'm intrigued by what Apple might be up to, given they've lured a man like Doug and his skill set out there....
If your reading this Doug, good luck! - microview2007, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2segway@me.com biatch
