Update: Digg Recommendation Engine Confirmed For This Week
techcrunch.com — Digg has released some materials around their new Recommendation Engine, which we wrote about last night, and say that it will be released this week. Two overview videos are below, including an interview with Digg Lead Scientist Anton Kast. We ’ve also included the text of a white paper on the Recommendation Engine.
- 1080 diggs
- digg it
- spookyttws, on 06/30/2008, -2/+37Well its nice to see those 'leaked' images to be proven true. Though I'm not real confident they weren't simply 'leaked' by digg itself.
- RealmDown, on 07/01/2008, -0/+7Leaked = "Announcement where we want plausible deniability ." or "Let's bash without responsibility"
Hey Rocky! Watch me pull a rabbit out of this hat!- IG64, on 07/01/2008, -0/+9You watched that show too? This thing's working already.
- Thorpe, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1I knew this was indeed legit upon noticing Kevin Rose digging the original article.
- Pittance, on 07/01/2008, -0/+180% of all corporate rumors end up being true. Most are deliberately put out by management to gauge the reactions and see how many of their top employees start looking for a way out.
- AngelBunny, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1OMG! i'm liking this recommendation system already. I'm not sure if all members have access right now or just me. click the upcoming tab and there it is! neat! ^_^
eww! i'm 19% compatible with SexyPopMachine. Maybe this system isn't so good after all...
- RealmDown, on 07/01/2008, -0/+7Leaked = "Announcement where we want plausible deniability ." or "Let's bash without responsibility"
- mojo4126, on 06/30/2008, -1/+31hopefully this turns out to be of better use then the other digg tools
- DaHuuuuuudge, on 07/01/2008, -1/+8than*
- cmsjustin, on 07/02/2008, -3/+1***** you*
- DaHuuuuuudge, on 07/01/2008, -1/+8than*
- Pottypotsworth, on 07/01/2008, -1/+11Im looking forward to this but my digg history is so erratic so this engine will need to be pretty good.
- TSSaloic, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Or it will take lots of work to remove the incompatible diggers.
- masterm1nd, on 07/01/2008, -2/+3I heard it basically just links to huffington post. So you shouldn't have any problems.
- shibbz, on 07/01/2008, -3/+61Well. Time to start Digging every story about Viagra.
- BoonTobias, on 07/01/2008, -12/+8i recommend that they redo this slowass comment loading bs
- RealmDown, on 07/01/2008, -2/+2and bring back "most popular" in the upcoming section.
- BoonTobias, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3http://digg.com/all/upcoming/most
- TSSaloic, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Hot in X topic(s), it is on the side in the upcoming section of any topic.
- JibberGeorge, on 07/01/2008, -3/+1I recommend you move out of the ghetto and get a better computer with a real internet connection.
- RealmDown, on 07/01/2008, -2/+2and bring back "most popular" in the upcoming section.
- Schwanz, on 07/01/2008, -4/+0
- FlyingSpaghetti, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Nearly? I'm soaked!
- cledford, on 07/01/2008, -0/+46Maybe now I can make new Digg friends besides the spammers who keep adding me to their list hoping I will add them.
- BigManOnCampus, on 07/01/2008, -2/+3"Lead Scientist"?? shouldn't that be "Lead Mathematician" ??
- Simonft, on 07/01/2008, -2/+11DO NOT QUESTION DIGG! BEND TO ITS WILL!
- RealmDown, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5brrrraaaaaaaiiiiinnnssssss
- gaapgod, on 07/01/2008, -0/+4Computer Scientist
- jabberwolf, on 07/01/2008, -8/+2Recommendation engine? So another Digg ploy to lead us to believe its what people recommend. When it's really what digg admin. recommends for you?
Sorry I've had enough BS from Digg trying to monitor what we see as popular and what isn't. I've seen submissions purposely taken out of search engines on Digg.- jabberwolf, on 07/01/2008, -4/+3And yea notice how many comments 13 - yet 200 diggs to make this a popular story? Hmmmm....??!!
- uselessexpert, on 07/01/2008, -2/+1You're a freaking mind reader...
I thought the same thing...
- uselessexpert, on 07/01/2008, -2/+1You're a freaking mind reader...
- Hefelumpman, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2Do you realise how dumb you sound?
Are you trying to convince people that Digg employs people to recommend stuff, instead of implementing a recommendation engine which will do it automatically, without fuss?
To what end is this ploy you speak of? Are you just another conspiracy nut? - zadadka, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Thanks for coming........bye.
- vladkov, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Don't multiply entities unnecessarily.
- jabberwolf, on 07/01/2008, -4/+3And yea notice how many comments 13 - yet 200 diggs to make this a popular story? Hmmmm....??!!
- known, on 07/01/2008, -1/+1Does Digg recommendation engine guarantee significant number of articles highlighting Objectivity and Positive Point of Views in its front page?
- erichw1504, on 07/01/2008, -1/+4All my recommendations will be about puppies, Miley Cyrus, and The Hills.
- batista86, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5Remember the good ol' days when we complained for a image section or better comment system. Ah, those were the days.
- Thorpe, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1We've already had a couple of stories regarding this. Was there any need for a recap story?
- hektur, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1yarr ive got it matey
- mark076h, on 07/01/2008, -0/+13has anyone got the beta tab yet?
- kentifer, on 07/01/2008, -0/+7yes.
- noonions, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3i do.
- sjones12, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2i got it
- msddigger, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3Yup, got it
- azzy, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3me too.
- hooksie, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Right here
- twrife, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Indeed.
- drgmdp, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1not me :(
- zadadka, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3Of course, whatever it is, and however good it is....there'll without doubt be SOMEONE ready to tell you how it has "ruined their life".......
- PueSi, on 07/01/2008, -0/+5They keep adding stuff to Digg but they have yet to fix how slow it has become. Soon we'll need a mirror for Digg.
- victimofkratina, on 07/01/2008, -3/+2how can there be recommendations for digg? its either an article about how evil the US is, the new gadget, xkcd, or some completely stupid onion story. i guess youll just get more of whatever you like out of those 4 categories.
- FlyingSpaghetti, on 07/01/2008, -0/+4Great. Now I can have LOL cats personally delivered to me!
- SleighBoy, on 07/01/2008, -1/+1A recommendation feature, doesn't that fly in the face of the whole concept of digg?
How about a friend tagging feature. That would be 1000 times as useful. Not all our digg friends enjoy the same crap. - Stketcher, on 07/01/2008, -0/+4Yeah...We totally needed this to hit the front page so we dint forget about the official announcement on the Digg blog post that got to the front page yesterday.
- iNunchuk, on 07/01/2008, -0/+8Even better update:
Digg Recommendation system here RIGHT NOW!
My theory makes it look like things are going to come faster, Digg me more! (Or Bury, see if I care) - kentifer, on 07/01/2008, -1/+1I have the recommendation system on my sidebar. =/
- sdigroup, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1yawn.......squared
- ericrocks78, on 07/01/2008, -1/+0they can maybe now make you be able to delete your own comments without having to send an email!!
- LeRenard, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2When did it get released? I've got it already.
- noonions, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2i've got it already, but it doesnt seem to be working so well. i digg mostly apple and offbeat, and so far the majority of the stories recommended to me have been about the olympics...but granted it is still in beta.
- Crash1337, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2Yeah it has showed up on mine too
- sjones12, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1uh... its up
- bs0l, on 07/01/2008, -0/+2I have it now also, has it been officially released?
- AngelBunny, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2why is the recommended system upcoming only? why is it not popular too?
- clarkis, on 07/02/2008, -1/+0Pligg CMS has had this feature in their Digg Clone for almost a year. I'll be shocked if the source code is not based on it.
- BlaenkDenum, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Cool, I have it, but I figure everyone does by now? I hope they don't take it away :(
- miquonranger031, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1nope, i don't have it, so it either hasn't been released or my account is screwed up. and that's not the case.
- Furkle, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1So after looking at it for a little while, the one thing that comes to mind is that you could game the system fairly easily through purposely trying to have a high compatibility with a large number of users as a means to get stories front paged, it's sort of like a non voluntary friends shout page if used improperly. I might be missing something but I can see this system causing some issues.
Check out the new & improved
