Why Digg's new recommendation engine is a step backwards
webware.com — I'm afraid in the current state the upcoming section is certainly more targeted, but it's pulling users away from some of the discovery that makes Digg so fun and engaging, which is what keeps users like me coming back. Without that, it's just another popular link site.

- dylio, on 07/03/2008, -0/+11I found this on the recommendation engine, and all I can say is that the recommendation engine has allowed me to see articles I would otherwise not be able to. It's here to stay.
- PerennialTears, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2I think I just got slimed cause my iPhone went crazy on me. Sorry about the duplicate replies.
- misterpony, on 07/03/2008, -0/+7Mostly disagree with this article. I'm liking the new recommendations. I've been hoping for awhile Digg would do this and it makes it much easier to target stories, yet still get a good variety. However, the Cloud view disappearing is really stupid. I didn't realize that before this article. What's the harm in keeping it around just as another way for users to sort through articles? I've always found the Cloud view helpful to mass bury when needed (like on Steve Jobs keynote day or other articles that get duped repeatedly).
- Subcranium, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5I understand the article and disagree. Anyone who wants to look at the full list can. I rarely have time to. And things change way too slowly on Digg's main page, so I think the recommendation engine is a great balance.
- thewalkrecords, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4It's a great tool IMO. In fact, this is almost the first time I check the upcoming list, and think I'll keep doing it.
