10 Most Under Appreciated Saturday Night Live characters
chicago.metromix.com — We all remember and love Brian Fellow (Tracy Morgan). He wasn't an accredited zoologist, he was just “an enthusiastic young man with a 6th grade education and an abiding love for all God's creatures.”

- nipterink, on 09/22/2008, -1/+10seriously, i never though he was under appreciated at all. everyone i know loves him.
- Snoosy, on 09/22/2008, -1/+15That's crazy!
- jcharak58, on 09/22/2008, -1/+7That was a great skit... don't know why anyone would say its underappreciated
- ohnoerino, on 09/22/2008, -2/+4I think because it was sort of short lived. I would have liked it to stay around longer.
- ohnoerino, on 09/22/2008, -2/+2I think because it was pretty short-lived. I know I would have liked it to stay around longer.
- w00tdigg, on 09/23/2008, -2/+2I think because it was fairly short lived. I certainly would have liked it to stay around longer.
- Thrash16, on 09/23/2008, -0/+3I believe it was relatively short lived. I really would have enjoyed a longer run of that particular skit.
- GB570, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2Can anyone tell me how to get to the department of redundancy department?
- MrM4nager, on 09/23/2008, -2/+4s
- anteyekon4myst, on 09/23/2008, -1/+2No yo not! That bird thinks he's Brian Fellow. He tried to order a gold plated cage with ma credit card.
- snapcase, on 09/23/2008, -1/+1Can't believe I'm, apparently, the only one that thinks Tracy Morgan sucks. The Brian Fellows skits were just annoying.
- floppydrivez, on 09/22/2008, -0/+20It is amazing how many people got their acting start on SNL.
- acmaurer, on 09/22/2008, -0/+3i know - it's pretty incredible when you think about it.
- smashingmonkey, on 09/23/2008, -0/+4Off the top of my head...
Tom Hanks
Chevy Chase
Bill Murray
Adam Sandler
Mike Myers
Eddie Murphy
Dan Akroid
Steve Martin
Billy Crystal
Chris Rock
Will Ferrell
David Spade
Dennis Miller
John Lovitz
I'm sure I'm missing some, but it's remarkable how many big stars got their start with SNL...- purzzzell, on 09/23/2008, -0/+3you're missing MANY.
Steve Martin, Tom Hanks, and Billy Crystal got their start there though???? I question the accuracy of those three. - smashingmonkey, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Like I said, top of my head... so it's easy to criticize my list, but you don't seem to have much to contribute. I think I got most of the *big* names though. And no, none of those three got their start with SNL, though Steve Martin didn't do much before SNL.
- purzzzell, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Actually, i can't think of many others - I can think of a lot of cast members, but they've fizzled or faded (or I'm just out of touch w/pop culture, which is definitely possible)
Chris Farley (OD)
Kevin Nealon (does "weeds" and 'death' on "Family Guy" qualify him as a big star?
Dana Carvey (done anything since "master of disguise"?)
jeanine Garofolo (more political activist than actor anymore, afaik)
- purzzzell, on 09/23/2008, -0/+3you're missing MANY.
- hydroplane, on 09/22/2008, -1/+13What about Merv? That's Merv the Perv.
- MrM4nager, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Land Shark?
Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood?- threemagic, on 09/23/2008, -0/+4I don't think either of those are under appreciated...
they are legendary! - MrM4nager, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Case and point, I stand corrected.
- threemagic, on 09/23/2008, -0/+4I don't think either of those are under appreciated...
- MrM4nager, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Land Shark?
- MacBigot, on 09/22/2008, -0/+15Mike Myers: Middle-Aged Man
http://snltranscripts.jt.org/90/90cmiddleaged.phtm ... - gonegoogling, on 09/22/2008, -2/+20Blizzard Man is funny as hell.
http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips ...- polarbobbear, on 09/23/2008, -2/+1I didn't think that was very funny.
- seansmyth, on 09/22/2008, -2/+10Dang - forgot about Tiny Elvis. MacBigot is right - loved Middle-Aged Man. Love it more now since I'm now middle-aged.
- oldhick, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Man get a load of that cursor, whoa, that suckers huge!!! I miss the old little elvis program...
- spankr, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Cage was an afterthought - Andrew Dice Clay was the original Tiny-E...
- darthsand, on 09/22/2008, -6/+12Mango
- xtothepowerofx, on 09/22/2008, -0/+4mango was done to death and not that funny to begin with... astronaut jones anyone?.. or velvet jones?... maybe there's another one with jones i can't remember... either way the moral of the story is that black people are funnier than white people :P
- crestfall, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2I can't decide between the thumbs up for Astronaut Jones, or thumbs down for insulting Chris Katan. He made a lot of bad stuff, but it was his willingness to be so out there that helped him to strike gold once in a while.
- crestfall, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2My favorite Tracy Morgan, other than Fellows:

- aralls, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1mango was horrendous
- xtothepowerofx, on 09/22/2008, -0/+4mango was done to death and not that funny to begin with... astronaut jones anyone?.. or velvet jones?... maybe there's another one with jones i can't remember... either way the moral of the story is that black people are funnier than white people :P
- notbob, on 09/22/2008, -0/+21Phil Hartman had the best characters. Mike Myers All Things Scottish was also a classic.
- purzzzell, on 09/23/2008, -0/+4Rob Schneider's "Y'put you're weed in there" guy :D
"everything scottish if it's not scottish it's CRAP" - Elranzer, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2This list pretty much proves Phil Hartman was the funniest cast member that show ever had.
- purzzzell, on 09/23/2008, -0/+4Rob Schneider's "Y'put you're weed in there" guy :D
- badwithcomputer, on 09/22/2008, -2/+6bryan fellow for president in 2012
- uppitydiggers, on 09/22/2008, -0/+7Tiny Elvis? Really?
- peestandingup, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Man, that thing is huuuuge.
- aralls, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1yeah, he sucked
- DeathJux, on 09/23/2008, -1/+23Nick Burns, your company's computer guy? I don't know if he was under-appreciated, but I laughed my ass off at his accurate antics.
- jc7012, on 09/23/2008, -0/+4MOVE
- Elranzer, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Nick Burns is basically every Linux user.
- replaysMike, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Only the top 10? I figured they could have listed them all.
- kingofinternet, on 09/23/2008, -1/+9astronaut jones
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXINJyu2h38- skoles, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2I love Astronaut Jones. The one I can never find is the best and it's where Mia Rudolph breaks character and starts complaining.
Tracy just goes "Girl you know I've been wantin to get you preg'nat!" - SkinnyPuppy, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1My favorite line:
"Why don't you drop out of that green jumpsuit and show me that fat ass!" - zachberry, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Rocket! I'm building a rocket.
- skoles, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2I love Astronaut Jones. The one I can never find is the best and it's where Mia Rudolph breaks character and starts complaining.
- Herv3, on 09/23/2008, -2/+9An SNL list, spread out over 10 clicks and no videos? Bury this shift. You're better than this Digg.
- cozinator, on 09/23/2008, -1/+1I just came to post the same thing. That article is worthless without vids.
- jerrycurley, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1the problem is, Digg is NOT better than that.
- patricksweeney, on 09/23/2008, -8/+1People apprecitate SNL in the first place? That's what's wrong with the US.
- soaring, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2Dugg for Ed Glosser & the Anal Retentive chef.
- w00tdigg, on 09/23/2008, -1/+22RIP Phil.
- PhillyMJS, on 09/23/2008, -0/+3I second that. We are definitely poorer for having lost him. Especially The Simpsons.
- BTraina, on 09/23/2008, -0/+3i still miss the guy.
- spankr, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Indeed. So sad.
I get my "Phil" watching Newsradio DVDs - I say he did his best work as Bill McNeal:
http://www.newsradioart.com/Pages/IntroPhil.html
The episode just after he died is beautiful. They didn't ignore it. That oddball "ensemble" cast still ranks as the best ever - it just worked...
- alcky, on 09/23/2008, -1/+2eh.. No Canteen boy? WTF!
- ImYourRealDad, on 09/23/2008, -0/+5COLONEL ANGUS.

- crestfall, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips ...
- CitizenSweeps, on 09/23/2008, -0/+3Dugg for Blizzard Man and Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer.
- boojoy, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2These are great - when SNL isn't doing "The [insert celebrity impersonation here] Show" for 8 minutes straight, it can do some funny stuff.
- rgon, on 09/23/2008, -0/+9The Continental?
http://video.yahoo.com/watch/148995/951695 - Deadpixel1221, on 09/23/2008, -0/+6SSSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSY!
- UniQueLyEviL, on 09/23/2008, -1/+3DUG!! As soon as I saw Brian Fellow I knew this would be good!
- rootsm3, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1He didn't have a name but it was the "Bad Doctor" sketch where Will Farrell played this ridiculous doctor who lost this couple's baby. That was last good sketch I remember from SNL.
- dmanmax99, on 09/23/2008, -0/+3The trivial psychic has always been one of my favorite sketches.
- ChuckDees, on 09/23/2008, -4/+6Stuart Smalley
"I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me."- RobotKeaton, on 09/23/2008, -0/+5You can't really call Stuart underappreciated. He got his own movie.
- purzzzell, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2he was on virtually every week for a damned long time.
- Asianwaste, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Also has a book too: http://www.amazon.com/Good-Enough-Smart-Doggone-Pe ...
- AoiTakuma, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1And he is running for Governor of MN
- jasonstahl, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Senator. And I am going to vote for him.
- RobotKeaton, on 09/23/2008, -0/+5You can't really call Stuart underappreciated. He got his own movie.
- pe5t1lence, on 09/23/2008, -4/+2No clips? buried.
- bingostud722, on 09/23/2008, -2/+4I wish SNL was even a tenth as funny now as they were then. :(
- isleepyx3, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1It's a very popular wish
- jayfish, on 09/23/2008, -0/+5"The Barry Gibb Talk Show."

Oh, and Astronaut Jones. - elevatedms, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Mr. Tarkanian!
- Asianwaste, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Oh Scott Jergenson, I love it! I'm actually going to murder you!!!!
- ColonelT, on 09/23/2008, -0/+3Can anyone find a clip of the Phil Hartman "Sassy" sketch? It looks like they've all been removed from the Internet.
- 1913massacre, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I can't find that sketch anywhere!
- pixelrunner, on 09/23/2008, -0/+5I liked Lothar Chieftain of all the hill people.
- Asianwaste, on 09/23/2008, -0/+4Looooooooooothaaaaar
of the Hiiiiil Peeeople!
- Asianwaste, on 09/23/2008, -0/+4Looooooooooothaaaaar
- johnnyliteral, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2Dr. Steven Poop.
- 1913massacre, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1AMAZING sketch!!! Good choice, Johnny!
- 1913massacre, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1AMAZING sketch!!! Good choice, Johnny!
- TheMrEman, on 09/23/2008, -0/+7It's hard to call some of these "under-appreciated." Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer was pretty popular as I recall (appearing almost weekly?), Anal-Retentive Chef, too. But Phil Hartman can't get enough credit. Ever.
Major omission: The Brasky Bunch.
"Bill Brasky used to walk his pet cobra through the park on a leash. He named the cobra Beverly and he taught it how to fetch and dial a phone. But then one day it bit the maid. So with tears in his eyes Brasky had to shoot the maid."- AoiTakuma, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1BILL BRASKY!
definitely a good skit
- AoiTakuma, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1BILL BRASKY!
- amoirae, on 09/23/2008, -7/+4Brian Fellow is a stupid one note character who should be thrown in a woodchipper.
- coldkill3r, on 09/23/2008, -2/+13God, SNL sucks compared to their older works.
- gaqua, on 09/23/2008, -0/+5It's funny how this gets repeated every few years.
The original 70s cast was talented but had a lot of ***** sketches, the mid-80s were awful, the late 80s/early-mid 90s was phenomenal with a few ***** sketches thrown in there, and the late 90s began a downward spiral that we're still in with only a few bright spots (Tina Fey's weekend update, Amy Poehler, arguably Will Farrell, etc).
Wonder what happens if it gets good again someday.- purzzzell, on 09/23/2008, -0/+5I think SNL is always worse than "you remember it"
Though my favorite is late 80's/early-mid 90's, but that's when I watched.
I gave up on 'the new cast' of the mid-late 90's - the cheerleaders nor Mary-catherine gallagher did anything for me.
- purzzzell, on 09/23/2008, -0/+5I think SNL is always worse than "you remember it"
- gaqua, on 09/23/2008, -0/+5It's funny how this gets repeated every few years.
- MadHarvey, on 09/23/2008, -3/+3Dug for not including a single Jimmy Fallon character.
- MoDinero, on 09/23/2008, -1/+2Gus Chiggins! Oooh Peaches!
http://www.killsometime.com/Video/Video.asp?ID=555- KublaiKhan, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Cinnamon and gravy!
- Foenetik, on 09/23/2008, -2/+11this list is worthless without videos.
- PosedMagnet, on 09/23/2008, -4/+2I wonder when SNL will be good again.
- SteveTheSultan, on 09/23/2008, -4/+2It seems like SNL is only good in retrospect. A few good skits here and there, but it generally sucks.
- mzx639, on 09/23/2008, -0/+5What about Middle-Aged Man, and his sidekick, Drinking Buddy??
- katedog, on 09/23/2008, -0/+3Headwound Harry. Maybe this goes under favorite unappreciated skit, but still had to give a shout out.
- SOCIO314, on 09/23/2008, -1/+3?? No Falconer?? And his sidekick Donald???
Jackie Rodgers Jr. ???- rpad, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1You really like the Falconer?!? I never met anyone that was into that sketch.
- sd12013, on 09/23/2008, -0/+0I love how Donald is always going off to hook up with hookers or party and returns to the Falconer just in time to save him from dying or whatever. It's hit or miss though.
- purzzzell, on 09/23/2008, -1/+1I don't even consider them underrated characters if they were a one-time character from a one-time host....
More like "characters that would be nice to have back IF THE DAMN PERSON EVEN HOSTED AGAIN! - parentheticguy, on 09/23/2008, -1/+4Toonces the Driving Cat. The Cat That Could Drive A Car, But Not Very Well...
- purzzzell, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Not underrated. had numerous sketches - probably more than he should have.
- Wakkyweed, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1I always wanted to see a skit in which Thelma and Louise are about to drive over the cliff, but at the last moment they stop and say, "Do we really want to do this? Maybe we should just turn ourselves in."
Then Toonces would pop up at the steering wheel and drive them all off the cliff to their deaths.
