- michaelpinto, on 07/03/2008, -0/+7I don't trust Hollywood to get it right - can we just not remake it and * cough * try something new?
- RapidEye, on 07/03/2008, -0/+8I enjoyed it as a kid, but watching it in DVD now....
Well....
Um....
There were so many flaws with the science, it became distracting.
Any explosion big enough to de-orbit the moon would do a bit more than just pin them to the ground for a minute or two: If they weren't actually blown to bits, they'd be turned into red goo from the acceleration.
It is going to take the current Pluto probe somewhere around 10 yrs to get there - somehow in this show, the moon is able to go from solar system to solar system every couple of weeks - does it have a warp engine hidden in there somewhere???
Some shows are best seen through the filters of time- michaelpinto, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1It's funny but when Issac Asimov reviewed the show he hated the science as well!
- MarkDykeman, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Yes, both Isaac Asimov and Harlan Ellison both panned the show, as did most non-SF critics.
- sukmydigg, on 07/04/2008, -0/+5Hollywod has run out of ideas it seems...they have to go back and remake everything! They'd probably just ***** this one up too!

- MarkDykeman, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1If you are thinking of the episode "Dragon's Domain" in particular, then me too. :)

- craighoxton, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3The show took its name from its SFX budget
- MarkDykeman, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1What, $1,999 per episode? :)
- 0U8I2, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2I'm not a big fan of remakes really. but in this case the original is not very well known. A remake might spark interest in the original show. Is this out on DVD somewhere? Never saw it, but now I'm curious.
- MarkDykeman, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1A&E released Space:1999 on DVD several years ago - you can get the entire series that way
- angelad, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1I'm not familiar with this show either though I've heard of it. It sounds like it wasn't good enough to be like Doctor Who, so was it more like Lost in Space? Did they say it was about the Moon traveling through space? because that sounds cool.
- MarkDykeman, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1In some ways Space:1999 was more like Battlestar Galactica (trying to find a new home after a catastrophe) or maybe Star Trek: Voyager but there wasn't a clear villain or nemesis like the Cylons or the Borg. There was also a lot of doubt about the Earth still being intact afterward.
