- wacki, on 01/11/2008, -10/+71Dear sci-fi channel,
Why didn't you pick up Josh Whedon's Firefly?- ZebraCrew, on 01/11/2008, -20/+35maybe because it's Joss Whedon.
- azbmr, on 01/11/2008, -6/+20I don't know why you are being dug down. Joss is his name.
- FatLoser, on 01/12/2008, -1/+4Maybe because there was absolutely no chance that anybody who knows what Joss Whedon's Firefly is was confused and had no idea what wacki was talking about when he referenced Josh Whedon's Firefly. Even if you type it in on Google out of utter stupidity/confusion, it will correct it for you. And if you think it's one of those rare times when Google suggests a different query because you're searching for something uncommon enough for its algorithm to think you misspelled something, then you are a stupid *****. That's why people were digging him down. And I'm going to digg you down because you've been dugg up by douche bags who love to see somebody who made a simple and unimportant mistake, get dugg down. If half the people who correct simple mistakes, even those mistakes as annoying as "could of" or the "they'ires," would spend the same amount of effort holding doors open for people, then I wouldn't feel like the human race is nearly the sludge it most unfortunately is.
Now that I've explained and denounced this phenomenon quite thoroughly, is there any chance that people will quit saying "I don't know why you are being dugg down for...[being a douche bag]"?

- ipxodi, on 01/11/2008, -1/+32Probably because Whedon doesn't own the rights -- Fox probably does and isn't likely to release them to a competitor.
- fadetoone, on 01/11/2008, -1/+13As I recall, that's exactly why.
- chris4404, on 01/11/2008, -3/+5Fox may own the rights but Universal (the same people who own sci-fi) made the movie so I'm not sure what the hangup is.
- Spytap, on 01/11/2008, -1/+11TV rights are different from Film rights.
- blackmage439, on 01/11/2008, -2/+4Actually, I believe they did, for a short run before the movie debuted. I believe they ran the series once or twice. It could have been a different channel, but I'm pretty positive it was Sci-Fi.
- Charlotte_Web, on 01/11/2008, -1/+11Sci-Fi did run them in order, several times, but I'm guessing that wacki meant producing the series ongoing, since there were only 14 episodes produced. Syndication rights are a whole different ballgame from production rights.
- Chompy, on 01/11/2008, -1/+7Firefly is a good question, but let's go back a few years.. Sliders. Guys, what the hell were you thinking? You could write ANYTHING, it was the ultimate writer's fantasy.. and we get *cromags*?
- ZebraCrew, on 01/11/2008, -20/+35maybe because it's Joss Whedon.
- Mylonite, on 01/11/2008, -3/+20Agreed! It's like they are under the impression that sci-fi fans are all either old and balding or young and socially outcast - and that they all still live at home with their parents. They have all the internets to cater to, and they treat us like we're a tiny niche group. Come on, SciFi, wake up! You guys should be taking advantage of the writers strike with quality remakes and interesting series - not 'Mansquito.'
- brufleth, on 01/11/2008, -1/+18It isn't like there isn't a significant body of science fiction material ranging from short stories to extremely long series. The channel also focuses a little too much on mindless crap. There is quite a bit of science fiction that carries strong social messages. Sci-fi fans aren't all slobering idiots quoting star wars and lotr. I love science fiction but usually just laugh at the stuff that gets played on the sci-fi channel as I skip by it. Most of it ranks right up there with "Modern Marvels: Shovels."
- dhVyse, on 01/11/2008, -1/+13Would digg that many times if I could. I'm usually far more inclined to watch the History Channel or Discovery before even thinking of Sci-Fi. Hell even G4TechTV is better most the time.
- moskaudancer, on 01/11/2008, -1/+1It's just "G4" now. :(
- NinjaBoy, on 01/11/2008, -1/+1Discovery and history channel are always good, he probably never makes it to G4....

- GOVStooge, on 01/11/2008, -3/+54Things that pissed me off about my beloved Sci-Fi channel
ECW: W... T... F... who the hell sees wrestling and thinks "oh this is some pretty good Sci-Fi"
Ghost Hunters: ....
Cancelled Farscape
The whole John Edwards thing
Failure to just put up whatever money they had for Firefly
A seemingly endless stream of original movies that don't even rate a "B" rating- raitchison, on 01/11/2008, -4/+13I'm with you on everything except for Farscape, quite literally "muppets in space". Then we got to see Ben Bowder and Claudia Black in some really good shows (like SG-1)
I also don't so much mind the B- movies, they need filler after all and some of them are enjoyable.
I'm saddened that they canceled SG-1, I know that MGM was probably charging a ridiculous amount for the rights, but still.
Of course SG-1 was receiving declining ratings, of course that was because SciFi destroyed SciFi Friday, which had quite possibly been the best thing that happened to TV in history.
All of the original shows, (Atlantis & BSG now) have this haphazard show schedule, with showing a handful of new episodes then going on a several month break, that every third episode is a cliffhanger doesn't help either.- qwertydvorak, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1the b-movies did really well with drawing women in. i read an article on it a good while back. which explains why i couldn't stand it, but my mother loved it. sci-fi friday is the only scheduled day of the week for me. used to have tuesdays on usa with 4400, the dead zone and house. now house is on network tv, and 4400 and dead zone are cancelled. maybe sci-fi network could pick up 4400 (and actually make some episodes and not take a year break between seasons).
i don't mind the splitting up of the seasons, because while atlantis is in hiatus you have dr who to take its place. i also agree that wrestling has absoutely no place on the network. i am tired of all of the ghost hunter type shows, but i can see how they can belong. either way the channel gives me more to watch than most channels out there. sci-fi fridays are the only day a week i have planned out for tv nothing else on tv is worth bothering with. - carpeclunes, on 01/12/2008, -2/+1Farscape is a million-bazillion times better than SG-1. And I'm not even exaggerating.

- MxM111, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1John Edwards thing? What was that?
- TheKillDoctor, on 01/11/2008, -0/+7A psychic retard who could see/talk to dead people. He preyed upon the grief stricken by doing cold readings, he still charges large sums of money to talk to a persons dead grandma.
- norman619, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3It was hilarious to see him cast out his line to see who would bite. I loved when he'd misread someone. He'd insist they have a dead person they want to talk to and they'd give him this look like he was nuts. It was classic!

- blackmage439, on 01/11/2008, -13/+8While I agree with most of his points, I am sick and tired of people bashing Stargate, and especially Atlantis, and omitting them from Top XX SciFi countdowns. The show is stuffed full of innovative story lines, gripping tension, catchy humor, and, most importantly, a sense of believability. No other scifi show is as believable from the geekiest of nerds to the most conservative Christian. Seriously, I was jumping with excitement during the last new episode of Atlantis, and I can't wait to watch the next episode tonight. Other, retarded shows cannot compare to the awesomeness that is Stargate. Flash Gordon, Heroes, forget it. If I wanted to hear some annoying ass Japenese guy exclaim "DDINGDANGDONGDIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!!!!!!!!11111!1!!1!!" at the top of his lungs, I would rather watch Couching Tiger.
- mcballz, on 01/11/2008, -4/+4dugg this because sci-fi could be much better... but I was tempted to bury this when he said Stargate was stale.
- norman619, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2No matter. SG1 shall live on in what will most likely be stale films or direct to DVD release.
- DrThunder, on 01/11/2008, -3/+6I agree, Stargate Atlantis is a lot better then people say. Every other Scifi show tries to be serious which is fine but Stargate is just straight up fun. I like Atlantis more then Battle Star right now mainly because Stargate filler episodes are still good and fun. But Battle Stars fillers are just so damn boring, that boxing episode made me stop watching.
- norman619, on 01/11/2008, -2/+1Sorry but SG filler eps are just like any other filler ep. They are boring and a waste of screen time. this is why they are filler.
- skankyBacon, on 01/11/2008, -2/+7I still like Stargate: Atlantis myself, but it makes me really nostalgic for good ol' SG-1 again. It feels too much like Star Trek recently. The original SG-1 had space travel and futuristic "ray guns" too, but it didn't dominate the series. I want a good old-fashioned team-centric episode with P-90s and pistols, where the main obstacle isn't overcome by Rodney hacking some alien software. Even the sets make it seem too futuristic and just plain not real.
- RobotBuddha, on 01/11/2008, -1/+3I think stargate started fairly generic, but they really stepped up to the plate around mid season 2. They actually are willing to kill off characters! Or at least create an illusion of it. It's a scifi show where I'm not 100% sure that the reset button will get pressed at the end and everything return to exactly the way it was when the episode began.
- blackmage439, on 01/11/2008, -1/+1Too bad most people don't agree with us, folks. All these positive comments, and you dare digg me down? This site really is full of ***** up asshat 9-year-olds just foaming at the mouth, waiting to splooge their load all over their keyboards to a picture of Megan Fox.
- mcballz, on 01/11/2008, -4/+4dugg this because sci-fi could be much better... but I was tempted to bury this when he said Stargate was stale.
- TheCount, on 01/11/2008, -1/+4I was with him till he mentioned Bionic Woman, that show is absolutely horrible.
Oh, and they really need to bring Firefly back, but it's probably too late now, the actors have moved on.- raitchison, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3Fox won't let anyone make the show (for any price that would be close to profitable), once they "kill" a show they don't want anyone else to bring it back.
- azAZ09, on 01/11/2008, -1/+8Stargate SG-1 and even Stargate Atlantis suffer from the "Buffy" syndrome. The success of these these series comes from the ability to follow two to three main story arcs -- an episodic arc, a seasonal arc, and an possibly extended series-level arc. Multiple arcs that give the writers the ability to develop the plot and characters in a scope that more closely rembles the medium of the paperback sci-fi novel. When telling epic stories where "saving the world" (or at least life as the characters know it) is a seasonal goal, one must recognize that there is a limit to the number of times you can accomplish this with the same characters before you reduce the overall value of fulfilling them.
You can love the shows, and still realize that they have exceeded their expiration date. To their credit hey have managed to outlive Farscape and Firefly two shows with better characters, plot, storyline etc, but they are definitely less than fresh.- Dagarik, on 01/12/2008, -3/+3There is no way in hell that Farscape was better then the Stargate's. And I'd like to see how good firefly was after 10 seasons (I really would, god damn you Fox).
SG1 is king.
- Dagarik, on 01/12/2008, -3/+3There is no way in hell that Farscape was better then the Stargate's. And I'd like to see how good firefly was after 10 seasons (I really would, god damn you Fox).
- hiikeeba, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2I suppose somewhere you could argue that wrestling is science fiction. Kinda like superheroes.
- norman619, on 01/11/2008, -1/+1The Undertaker
- Dustmuffins, on 01/11/2008, -2/+11I still like Stargate Atlantis... I don't think it's really stale...
- GohanGVO, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2hi dusty
- Matthew386x, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2In my opinion. Stargate Atlantis has gotten a lot better since SG-1 ended, it would seem a lot more resources or focus at least, is going into SGA, however Richard Dean Anderson for the Win over anything else. Last two seasons of SG-1 sucked as well.
- Nick519, on 01/11/2008, -2/+2A-frickin-MEN. a THOUSAND times, DUGG!
- h4mx0r, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1I find it fairly amusing that people have been able to recite many crappy b-movies throughout this thread.
- zerobackup, on 01/12/2008, -1/+1Good lord, mention the sci-fi channel and people have to post these long winded rants about minutiae. The channel is fourth rate garbage, if you are trying to convince yourself otherwise then it's already too late for you.

- wacki, on 01/11/2008, -10/+71Dear sci-fi channel,
- sjbdallas, on 01/11/2008, -7/+331In england, the sci-fi channel shows softcore after midnight.
I'm just saying.- insllvn, on 01/11/2008, -2/+70Um alien softcore? Cause, you know, that would be sweet...
- KaiUno, on 01/11/2008, -1/+17Ah, princess Leia, the green Orian slave girl and the tripple breasted chick from mars! I see where you're going with this.
- MacEnvy, on 01/11/2008, -1/+24Or perhaps Eccentrica Gallumbits, the Triple-Breasted Whore of Eroticon 6.
- gak001, on 01/11/2008, -0/+13@MacEnvy... wow, that was some intense SciFi geekiness right there. I think it could have only been more intense if it was a crappy sitcom imitating SciFi geekdom.
Cheers to you, sir.
- Chakat, on 01/11/2008, -5/+3Mmmmm, xenomorph porn.
Yes, I've seen it. It's horribly awesome. For those who don't mind losing a few sanity points, it's over on fchan.- chaosium, on 01/11/2008, -1/+7You could pretty much say the same for anything on the chans.
- s810, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1pics or it didn't happen

- GreatSunJester, on 01/11/2008, -2/+129I'd rather have the softcore than the wrestling crap they play during some primetimes in the US.

- moskaudancer, on 01/11/2008, -0/+6Gay males?

- catfud, on 01/11/2008, -60/+2Excuse me but that wrestling crap has some of the brightest young stars on it
sure its not on the same level as Raw or Smackdown but sure as hell better then TNA- Randrayla, on 01/11/2008, -0/+20Fail.
- Navicerts, on 01/11/2008, -0/+24Sure, you feel that way. However, Sci-Fi crowd < > Wrestling crowd.
- logicalnoise, on 01/11/2008, -4/+9as someone who used to follow wrestling I have to say no no no. ECW is now just a spinoff of WWE TNA is the closest out there to old ECW. Old ECW matches were brutal and had some terrific highspots. the last ECW I tried watch reminded me of why I stopped watching wrestling, boring matches, unsurprising storylines and just not "extreme".
- Stupidumb, on 01/11/2008, -2/+8Let me fix that for you:
"I'd rather have the softcore." - lewhich, on 01/11/2008, -0/+42I've never been able to figure out why wrestling was added to the Sci-fi channel. It has nothing to do with science fiction.
- Nitesmoke, on 01/11/2008, -2/+11Or what about the soap "Passions," wtf was that about? They started airing it around the same time as ECW. I figured they just hired a new guy that picks shows, and his mom made him air passions and he like wrasslin' so he added it. Ghosthunters is awful, 5 grown men walk around a house overnight, see nothing, but say, "did you see that?" No, neither did the camera. Then they watch the tapes of them seeing nothing and try to imagine a birds call or a speck of reflective dust is the spirit of Old Mr *****. But, I must confess, BSG is awesome, the acting is great, addictive storyline, and by far the best Special FX on tv.
- raitchison, on 01/11/2008, -1/+4It's profitable.
- qwertydvorak, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4well, it does have the fiction part in common.
- Ratteler, on 01/11/2008, -2/+46Wrestling is soft core... for homosexuals.
- chaosium, on 01/11/2008, -0/+8I think Wrestling is softcore to some people.
- eliezerlp, on 01/11/2008, -0/+24Who wouldn't?

- b8man99, on 01/11/2008, -1/+94Some studio exec is saying "but reality TV is in this year" or "but retro is the new sci-fi" or "remakes are more bankable". And anything that truly is original, the heart of sci-fi, is simply rejected.
The geeks and nerds need to be given creative control.- doctorfungi, on 01/11/2008, -1/+46The whole "reality TV is in this year" is a crock of *****. It's only in because it's going to be forced in. Everyone is so sick of reality TV, but the writers strike is going to make sure that we get another fresh, steamy pile of it this year. It's lame I tell ya. :(
- chaosium, on 01/11/2008, -0/+16It's never "in", but it's so absolutely CHEAP to record that it's never ever going away.

- ssn697, on 01/11/2008, -1/+5Bad Boys, Bad Boys, whatcha gonna do?

- Gudlyf, on 01/11/2008, -1/+20The #1 issue here: money. Science fiction done right is MONEY, and lots of it.
I went to the set of BSG, Stargate and Flash Gordon last year, and while the first two sets were impressive, Flash Gordon ... notsomuch. You could tell they were skimping wherever they could, and most of us visiting the set knew this was a mistake. You could even tell on the faces of the showrunners that the "studio" they were filming in (seriously, the studio is an abandoned horse stable! I do not kid!) was a disappointment, but a reality.
Anyway, science fiction is expensive. That's the point I was trying to make. If it's not done right, geeks won't watch it because the effect suck.- Ratteler, on 01/11/2008, -0/+22Ya know... I've watched Dr. Who (The originals), Blake 7, and Dark Shadows back in the day. You want to talk suck effects?
How did I sit through these? Oh... it was a little thing called STORY!
If you're going to give me crappy effects, give me a BRILLIANT story with characters I care about.
Go watch Primer. That's what we're looking for.- RobotBuddha, on 01/11/2008, -0/+8Really, any sci-fi from the BBC. In particular before the new Doctor Who. Despite effects that are anything but realistic, their hitchikers guide and gormenghast miniseries are among the best I've ever seen on tv. It's an odd situation where we 'need' special effects. It's been the norm for most of the human acting experience to just use a minimal set of props and a stage.
- norman619, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4Then we had Lexx....
- sinrtb, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3I miss Lexx :*(
- brufleth, on 01/11/2008, -0/+10You're thinking too much of wizz bang sci-fi. There's quite a lot of sci-fi that really doesn't involve huge space battles or stuff all that incredible.
- norman619, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4The original Twilight Zone series episodes are still very entertaining. They didn't have much in the way of wiz bang going on. They were carried along by great stories. Great VFX does not make a great scifi show or film.
- Ratteler, on 01/11/2008, -0/+22Ya know... I've watched Dr. Who (The originals), Blake 7, and Dark Shadows back in the day. You want to talk suck effects?
- chaosium, on 01/11/2008, -0/+10Didn't they play Crossing Over on Sci-Fi? They're whores for cash.
- ssn697, on 01/11/2008, -4/+5Dude, that show was great TV. You don't get theater like that on TV very often. The South Park episode making fun of it was hilarious as well.
- AgarwaenUmarth, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2But it was it Sci-Fi?
- ssn697, on 01/11/2008, -4/+5Dude, that show was great TV. You don't get theater like that on TV very often. The South Park episode making fun of it was hilarious as well.
- smackhero, on 01/11/2008, -3/+5mainstream media just sucks in general. firstly, network/studio executives are uncultured idiots with business or advertising/marketing degrees. they control what shows/films get made, and they see their target demographic as simple-minded middle american families, so they create/seek out shows catering to the lowest common denominator. secondly, the producers themselves work for the network/studios, and they apply further pressure on writers/directors to create shows in the network's vision against the original artistic vision of the writers, destroying the few good shows that make it on the air.
i really think that TV is literally dumbing down our society. i mean, just look at the crap they air on "educational" channels like Discovery or the History Channel--half of them are about UFOs, paranormal activities/ghosts, or bigfoot/lochness monster/chupacabra/etc. and most present no educational value whatsoever. i understand that TV is intended to be entertaining, but entertainment doesn't equate to banal and idiotic garbage. i mean, just look at the BBC's Horizon series, or any of their other great programs compared with the crap we get on the Discovery Channel.
it really pisses me off that great shows like Arrested Development and Futurama get canceled, while crap like Monster Quest stays on the air. i mean, it used to be that, while most tv shows didn't appeal to me, i could at least stand to watch the Discovery channel/National Geographic. but, now, even their programs are just insulting to one's intelligence--like interviewing a TV network VP as a "giant squid expert," or having a random crazy couple with no scientific background whatsoever present their half-baked theories about a natural undersea geological formation being signs of the lost city of Atlantis. nowadays it seems like if you use some cheesy CG effects and throw some random equations on the screen next to a free body diagram then the show can be labeled "educational." honestly, i'd be surprised if the hosts of Smash Labs even passed high school physics.- norman619, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2Uncultered? - MusicalGenius, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3Stargate alone. Every Stargate fan on Earth was like? WTF did you just do!?!? Stargate was at such a high with the Ori and then to kill it... AT LEAST just give it a LAST season to end or something. OR AT LEAST THE REST OF THEIR ACTUAL SEASON!!!!!! AGH!!!. I really feel(ALONG WITH ALMOST EVERY FAN) that the man at Sci Fi who decided this ought to be shot or something. It's HORRIBLE. I just think the man should loose his job and never have say over T.V. decisions ever again.

- arbulus, on 01/11/2008, -0/+30Sci-fi was really awesome circa 1996-2000. It was truly geeky/nerdy back then. It seemed however that around 2000, they started airing nothing but horror. They pretty much quit airing real sci-fi and became the Horror Channel. Then after they seemed to get over that, it just turned completely to *****. The only thing that has kept it going over the years is probably Stargate.
I really miss the 1990's era Sci-Fi Channel. I wish we could have that back.- Charlotte_Web, on 01/11/2008, -1/+9A couple of years ago, Sci-Fi Fridays were really great. Doctor Who, followed by Stargate: SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis, and then Battlestar Galactica. Sci-Fi could have aired a test pattern for the rest of the week, because those were the only four hours of programming that mattered, and it all ran back-to-back.
SG-1 ended, and Doctor Who & Battlestar both went into hiatus. Sci-Fi never recaptured the magic. Flash Gordon is an embarrassment for them and an insult to us.- qwertydvorak, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1i actually like flash gordon. that actually shows how hard up i am for anything remotely sci-fi ish to show on tv.
- Charlotte_Web, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1I just wished they had named it anything BUT Flash Gordon, because it definitely is not the established Flash Gordon storyline. Flash is not supposed to be able to jump back to earth at will. Ming the Merciless is not supposed to have a 1970's/Jack Tripper hairdo. FG is supposed to be a story about a struggle to survive on an alien world, not about how Flash is inconvenienced because some alien babe moved into his house in suburbia and won't leave.
Sci-Fi may have done irreparable damage to the Flash Gordon franchise with this tepid, low-budget rendition.

- endlessoul, on 01/11/2008, -0/+20Lexx was good, but Farscape was great. If you want a space opera with excellent acting, production values, and storyline, you had to look no further.
Unfortunately, Sci-Fi gave them the ax. That's when I stopped watching. - starkruzr, on 01/11/2008, -4/+3Lexx was stupid. Farscape, on the other hand, was some of the best goddamn television I have ever seen of any genre, period.
- FWitness, on 01/11/2008, -2/+3A lot of people are commenting on Lexx vs. Farscape. I could never really get into either of them. Lexx had some really interesting concepts but was far too wacky to be anything but a niche show. Farscape seemed to have excellent drama and effects, but couldn't seem to find a good balance on how seriously to take itself.
My favorite show of the Lexx/Farscape era is The Invisible Man (iMan). It was fun, lighthearted and just serious enough to move it out of total farce.- thejumbo, on 01/11/2008, -0/+5The LEXX movie that I saw on Cinemax was WAY cooler than the show - hell - she had BLUE pubic hair, too! AWESOME!
- shampoovta, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1I was looking for this comment, I knew it would be here. You bet your ass Lexx ( and Farscape ) made it more interesting. I also liked the Invisible Man. Battlestar is good but it is slipping. I had the same problem with Dark Angil down on the K threw 12 channels. Starts out good then went to hell. They just have a short shelf life.
- wbeavis, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1I'm not a Lexx fan. Check out Joost, they had some episodes listed. Kind of spotty coverage, but you can usually find a few gems to watch on Joost.
- Froderick, on 01/12/2008, -0/+0Lexx was O.K for a while, but it got tired VERY quickly. It seemed every episode followed the same formula:
1. Stanley Tweedle finds out about some thing/place where he can get sex.
2. He promptly goes there, everyone else forced to go with him.
3. The thing in question is a front for something that wants to use him for a nefarious purpose, kill him and then eat him (and not necessarily in the order)
4. Kai has to save him, and make a quip along the lines of "The Dead do not [insert activity here]"
5. They leave, and Stan laments over how he didn't get banged.
Once they did that for what felt like the 10th time in a row, I made an effort to avoid most of the show. But they did have some great episodes later on (the musical episode BRIGADOOM comes to mind). - DeFex, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1lexx stopped being entertaining after about 3 seasons.
- swordedge, on 01/11/2008, -0/+39To summarize, There is a whole bookstore of great stories that would make good programming. Use it.
As a long time fan of Pournelle, Niven work, Footfall's appearance surprised me. I'd like to see either it or Lucifer's Hammer updated and done as a miniseries. (Updated cause we know more about asteroid hits now then we did in the 70's when they were written)- Mylonite, on 01/11/2008, -0/+12Damn, you just made me wish like hell for a Ringworld miniseries!
- Cerebron, on 01/11/2008, -1/+3Dugg for Footfall!
- DiggDuggDone, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4Be very careful swordedge and Mylonite! Them's some of the best in the field and would be rock hard woody-ish to see on the screen. BUT, better be flawless...
Make me watch some craptastic Puppeteer the likes of Ice Spiders and you'll hear my scream of anguish three states over. Give me the Ringworld vista and Arch as some poorly rendered, still life matte painting and I'll weep bitter tears of disappointment.
The Ringworld/Known Space as a series DONE RIGHT wood be bonerific! (Jessica Alba as Teela anyone?) More freaking material/plots/subplots and characters for five series.
But you'd truly have to prop me up in my dead bed of ecstasy to see Greg Bear's "Eon" on Sci Fi. The Way alone completely dusts Ringworld as far as places to go people to see...
To all you SciFi fans out there that want something better from the channel please copy the above URL and send to: feedback@scifi.com please.
With a little of Teela's luck we just might wake these ***** up... - carbonetc, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2I don't want anyone to touch Ringworld. It can only lead to heartbreak.
- undy242, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2I'd love to see Arthur C. Clarke's Rama series brought to television.
- qwertydvorak, on 01/11/2008, -0/+5i would love to see it done justice, either with miniseries, series or multiple movies. wikipedia is mentioning that morgan freeman is wanting to make it into a movie, imdb showing it as due in 2009. the only thing i hope they don't do is try to change it to be some explosion fest to appease the retards-i mean movie going masses. they should stick to the sense of awe and wonder of exploration that the original book conveyed.
- undy242, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2I'm in total agreement - keep it more of a character driven story like the novels were written and less like a cheesy, explosion-driven space flick. It's good to see someone like Morgan Freeman is interested in it, maybe it will get pushed through. The one negative is I'm sure it would cost a fortune to develop - or develop well at least.

- kildurin, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4Guys, be reasonable. My wife is an author and works with the publishing industry. Do you have any idea what Niven, Pournelle or Asimov or their respective publishers would charge for this? It ain't gonna come cheap. Too bad though. It is a great suggestion
- swordedge, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2Might be worth it when you consider the crap they often pass off as Science Fiction. When Bruce Willis said that Armageddon was scientifically accurate, I almost fell off my chair laughing.

- tendonut, on 01/11/2008, -5/+6That's a good point. Me and my girlfriend always sit down with a bowl of popcorn when Ghost Hunters come on. The most believable ghost-related show on TV it seems. But yes, it isn't exactly science fiction..it really belongs on a Discovery channel.

- TheG2, on 01/11/2008, -3/+8If you're on a Sci-Fi show and they bring Ben Bowder on as a cast member, It's about time to start looking for a new job because your series is about to be canceled and end in 3 or less crappy movies.
- tgormtx, on 01/11/2008, -2/+3That's the truth... and it sucks.
- ElectroBot, on 01/11/2008, -0/+5Farscape was on for 4 season of 22 episodes each (except season 3 = 23) and had a 4 hour miniseries as an ending.
- MacEnvy, on 01/11/2008, -1/+14No, it was nice to see them again. At least they gave them decent roles instead of lame cameos.
- tgormtx, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2I would have rather seen them brought back with the series' that was prematurely canceled
- ToadLeg, on 01/11/2008, -1/+3You do know SG1 has been over for almost a year, right? Have you seen any of the 4th season Atlantis episodes? They are certainly not "stale". In the last episode, the Daedalus and Orion, with several Wreath ships, and some "Travelers" ships, fought against like 20 Replicator ships in a huge space battle and destroyed the Replicator homeworld with a Replicator android specially crafted by McKay to fuse with every other Replicator on the planet. They're also coming out with a movie later this year called "Continuum". You really must not be paying attention.
- Smalldude76, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4Two SG1 movies - 'Continuum' and 'Ark of Truth'. And the orion (Ancient ship) was destroyed - Apollo was the other Earth ship.
- Orion682, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4He meant the Apollo, not the Orion.
- tgormtx, on 01/11/2008, -1/+3It was stale when they brought in Browder and Black to the cast of SG1. The series ended poorly, like a homeless man fading away into nothing. And Atlantis was becoming very stale until they ended SG1 and put more resources into it.
- qwertydvorak, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4they can bring Claudia Black to any series they want to in my opinion. especially if the series takes place on some alien beach somewhere.
- Smalldude76, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2I'd say Atlantis has its moments. It definitely had some fantastic, memorable moments such as the episode "Sunday".
- ElectroBot, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2I really liked the last episode of SG-1 "Unending" although I would've like to see it as a 2 or 3 episode ark (maybe with children).
- AgarwaenUmarth, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1The whole Replicator storyline is rather retarded in my opinion, but I've only watched sporadically, so I didn't see the whole thing.
As an aside, the Wraith have outlived their usefulness as a plot element and need to finally be eradicated or assimilated into Anubis's empire.
- Smalldude76, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4Two SG1 movies - 'Continuum' and 'Ark of Truth'. And the orion (Ancient ship) was destroyed - Apollo was the other Earth ship.
- azAZ09, on 01/11/2008, -0/+5Wreath (reeth)-- a thing you hang on your door during xmas celebrations.
Wraith (rayth)-- a ghostly apparition, and an alien race from SG atlantis.

- peestandingup, on 01/11/2008, -0/+7Don't forget to bring back Quantum Leap! Yes, I know it was NBC who cancelled it, but Sci-Fi was supposed to remake it.
- Nitesmoke, on 01/11/2008, -2/+4They tried to bring it back and call it Journeyman, but it got cancelled as well.
- Charlotte_Web, on 01/11/2008, -2/+5NBC remade it instead, only with a far less original concept and a whole lot less story tension.
They called it Journeyman. - azAZ09, on 01/11/2008, -2/+3Isn't Journeyman just quantum leap with better writing?
- Dubbsacc, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1Worse, I thought..
- ShadyG, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1Wasn't Quantum Leap just a remake of Voyagers?

Just... you know... Makes me cry inside.- Nitesmoke, on 01/11/2008, -0/+7I wonder if it was worth it to them losing their biggest fans, just to bring in the "wrasslin' crowd?" This show has no place whatsoever on Sci-Fi, its not for nerds. Thats like showing "Debbie Does Dallas" on Disney or "How to Properly Smack a Ho" on Lifetime.

- hockey, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4That's why it's on the network.
You guys need to realize it's about one thing and that's money. Money doesn't come from people simply watching shows, money comes from people watching shows LIVE. Let's face it most of Sci-Fi watchers are geeks and most geeks DVR their shows rather than watch live so we can skip commercials etc. Sci-Fi doesn't make any money off you DVR'ing a show. They make money from you watching a show live. SG-1 was cancelled because it wasn't making a profit even though it was one of the most popular shows on the network. Enough people didn't watch it LIVE to generate enough ad revenue to keep it going.
More live viewers means more people who can't skip commercials which means more money for networks because they can charge a higher rate to advertisers. Wrestling is on because it'll be watched by non geeks who are more likely to watch a show live rather than DVR it.
I'm sure there are tons of things SCI-Fi would love to do but can't because they simply don't have the funding.
Oh and those cheesy movies we all hate, they are one and done so the money generated from those craptacular features help pay for the few shows on Sci-Fi that we do like.
- Nitesmoke, on 01/11/2008, -0/+7I wonder if it was worth it to them losing their biggest fans, just to bring in the "wrasslin' crowd?" This show has no place whatsoever on Sci-Fi, its not for nerds. Thats like showing "Debbie Does Dallas" on Disney or "How to Properly Smack a Ho" on Lifetime.
- soehner, on 01/11/2008, -1/+6If they resurrected Firefly, they would get a free pass from me to make as many Mansquito movies as they like!

There's no getting around it. If you want to have an endlessly successful run at TV, just restart TechTV for the love of god. We need it back. G4 is a steaming pile of awful.

- MV559er, on 01/11/2008, -0/+26Even if they didn't produce new MST3k episodes, why can't they at least re-air the existing ones? That's a two-hour block of quality programming right there!
- arbulus, on 01/11/2008, -0/+12Heartily seconded. I know the creator said that he had no plans of picking the show back up, but I don't understand why Sci-Fi couldn't just air the old episodes. The world is a bleak place without MST3K.
- ReptilynSamurai, on 01/11/2008, -1/+7Rights issues. Towards the end of the reruns they were already running out of episodes they could still air, because they only purchased the rights to the movies featured in them for a limited time. That said, I'd love to see them air the reruns, but that is why they can't re-air the existing ones.
- Radscott, on 01/11/2008, -2/+6No. Bring it back with Mansquito!
BTW, the MST3K guys are back online with their new show "Cinematic Titanic." - neodorian, on 01/11/2008, -0/+6The problem was that they needed to pay to run the movies as if they were just running the movies so more modern movies were too expensive. They kind of had to use old movies for financial reasons.
Still, I agree with rerunning MST3K. There are a ton of those and they are always great. - protogenxl, on 01/11/2008, -0/+8They ended MST3K because getting broadcast rights for the movies was to expensive. Well here is a list of movies they could do because Sci-Fi already has the broadcast rights.

- h4mx0r, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1Sadly, that 1 million is just watching because they have their tv turned on with nothing else to do. If they had something better, they'd keep the 2 million every time, with people actually tuning in to watch something worthy.

Another amazing show they could air, (and I'm not holding my breath for because it's still exceedingly popular) is Red Dwarf.- Thepirateking, on 01/11/2008, -1/+7Just how is the New Dr. Who rubbish? Can you explain this to me?

- SonicAD, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2Hell, I started watching the old series once I found the new series, and they were fine. Low-budget, sure, but there's some damn good stories. I'd rather watch it than most of what's on TV today.

- Nitesmoke, on 01/11/2008, -2/+11Its 1 hour per week for the stupid show, but 30+ hours per week of the even more stupid commercials. Sci-fi promotes that gay show every single commercial break. Please take your *****-erotic manporn to another channel, and give us some, I don't know, science fiction maybe?
- h4mx0r, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4It's goddamn annoying because that 1 hour happens to be during the time that I usually turn on the goddamn tv.

- Kavok, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3I stopped watching the Sci-Fi channel after they started showing ECW. I'd agree with most of the comments about Sci-Fi rocking in the 90's but its just been downhill. Its packed with ***** B movies now and nothing new or creative besides BSG and Stargate.
- EricAnderton, on 01/11/2008, -0/+13When they brought pro wrestling (ECW) to the Sci-Fi channel, I held out some hope for the merger.
Think about it: Sci-fi-pro-wrestling. Like GWAR meets mexican wrestling. Hopelessly over-the-top intergalactic personalities with equally bizarre and out-of-this-world moves and (of course) lockerroom drama. This formula is at least as cheezy as the stuff sci-fi runs, and probably a helluva lot more interesting than vanilla ECW is by itself.
But no. Instead we get the same old regurgitated he-man soap-opera garbage. Nice one guys.- h4mx0r, on 01/11/2008, -0/+8I wanna see Captain Picard duke it out with a wookie.
- scooterfish, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4Oh, now I would actually stay tuned to SciFi and watch that. A "vs. GWAR" cage match. *****.
- rowlodge, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2a sci fi channel "2 ", like mtv 2, but pure scifi on it and filter out the commercialism, like a fan site should be.
- hockey, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4All of your questions can be summed up in one word. Ratings from live viewers.
Ratings determine how much you can charge for ad revenue. Wrestling is on the network because it generates ratings. SG-1 was cancelled because ad revenue from ratings was too low and expenses were beginning to outweigh profits.
The studio heads of SG-1 told us this over and over. We all know you love the show but you have to watch it LIVE, if you don't watch it LIVE then we don't get the ratings we need to raise our ad-rates to keep the show going.- opethlike, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2I would deal with a banner with ads on the lower 1/4 of my screen if they would have quality shows.

- JosephStalin, on 01/11/2008, -0/+5SG-1 Season's 9 and 10 where, IMHO, the best of the series. I watched the show religiously since the first season and loved the movie. It's just, those two seasons were awesome. The G'ould got a bit tiring after eight years and the Ori really made an interesting new enemy (unlike Atlantis's Wraith). The new characters fit in really well and made the show interesting again. Seriously, try watching the entire 9th season. If you don't think it's good, fair enough, but at least give it a chance. Season 10 was also very good, though you need to watch the 9th first to get up to speed.
For Atlantis I wasn't too fond of the first few seasons, but starting with 3 it really started to improve. So far I'm really liking season 4, especially last week's episode. I still don't like the Wraith, though. Mainly because they just try to hard to make them seem "scary". The Atavus in "Earth: Final Conflict" were a better wraith than the Wraith.- starkruzr, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3I really miss SG-1, but I wouldn't say seasons 9 and 10 were the best. They weren't awful, though. By the end of season 10 the chemistry between Ben Browder, Claudia Black, Michael Shanks, Chris Judge and Amanda Tapping had really started to develop well. It would have been nice to see what else they could do with it.
- kupa, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3Well at least we're getting some SG-1 movies =D
- h4mx0r, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2I liked everything about the King Arthur/Merlin story arc, and I didn't mind Ben Browder either, but I couldn't stand Claudia Black. Prometheus Unbound was nice, but once she became a regular, I grew sick of her. She ruined it for me. If she wasn't there, I'd have equally enjoyed it as you.
- Matthew386x, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1The Ori brought something new? Goa'uld Tiring?
REPLICATORS anyone? Anyone? Hm?
- nogwise, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1its pretty simple. ecw is the channels highest rated show. the networks second highest rated show is ghost hunters. its a shame but they have to play the rating game same as everyone else.
- solistus, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2"Seriously, if I could, I could..."
Enlightening. - Psi57, on 01/11/2008, -0/+5The difference is that Army of Darkness is a true B movie (but in a good way): the producers set out thinking they would make a great film, failed, but managed to inadvertently make a cult classic anyway. SciFi ***** sets out to make a B movie because they think its trendy, but end up just burning money. Lots and lots of money.

- smackhero, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2that was a great miniseries, but i dunno if it's a good idea to make it into a regular series. good regular shows are hard to come by, and usually focus around good characters and the format tends to work better for comedies and dramas. good sci-fi, IMHO, requires a strong plot and good storyline. and that's gonna be hard to consistently come up with on a regular basis and then maintain over an indefinite interval. it'll probably just ruin the original concept in the long run.
- slapout, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2I think The Lost Room would make a great series. They certainly left that possiblity open. And there are plenty of object they could do story lines around.

- MattBlackCat, on 01/11/2008, -11/+2So you expect them to just pull shows out of thin air?
There is no investment to make genre programs in the US in the UK it is much the same and the revenue streams from sell through is dimished by torrents - so Unless you can come up with how to make shows for free then you are stuck with what you get.
Make no mistake the sci-fi channel is a business out to make money and are not a charity.
If the money ain't there you ain't gonna get product- arbulus, on 01/11/2008, -0/+6even if they didn't make new shows, there are TONS of shows that have ended or been off the air for years that could be re-run. personally, i think that aside from comedies and dramas, tv shows should be kept in the miniseries format. especially with sci-fi, as original concepts/storylines take a long time to develop.

- EricAnderton, on 01/11/2008, -5/+3I'll have to disagree. Showtime gave the show one hell of a push-start that gave it momentum well into the fifth season or so.
After that, with the goa'uld in decline and much of the ancient secrets discovered, they began to run out of bad guys. That's when the concept was starting to atrophy - just like with most series do. Atlantis became a much needed shot-in-the-arm for the franchise, but it lacks the chemistry of the original ensemble cast on Stargate.
But at least they had fun with the last few seasons. Wormhole X-treme for the win.- dbwood, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3Bah Atlantis is great. SG-1 was still great. Bring another season on.
- Petzke, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1I don't know about that... Season 7 was in the top 3 seasons easily. Season 8 had some amazing episodes as well (the last 5 episodes of the season were EXTREMELY entertaining and well done.)
- Matthew386x, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1We really needed more First-Contact episodes in SG-1 and revisits of those people. Like 10x16 "Bad Guys" was by far, the BEST episode in Season 9 and/or 10. I am really disappointed we didn't get to see those people again.
And other episodes where the Gate on a planet was destroyed or buried, we go to other GALAXIES, now, couldn't we use the Apollo or something to drop by those planets for a visit?
Stargate doesn't have to be about bad guys all the time. I got a kick out of first contact episodes.

- ToadLeg, on 01/11/2008, -2/+15If they think Stargate is stale, they must not really like Stargate, or aren't paying attention to the new Atlantis episodes.
- synthaxx, on 01/11/2008, -1/+57Dugg for unadulterated truth!
Firefly, Star Trek, Farscape, we miss you!- bjs3171, on 01/11/2008, -0/+7Star Trek TNG is no longer playing on Spike or G4. I've seen every episode like 10 times, but it was still really nice to have it there when the mood struck.
- endlessoul, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3Amen to that.
To anyone affiliated with Farscape, you should know that your fans love the show more than you know. You did awesome work and we will never stop wanting more. WE WANT FARSCAPE! - enchantedsky, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4I wish SOMEONE would bring back Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. It's the one good Star Trek which is taken for granted by the public, and not everyone has seen every episode for it.
- userperson, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3It was on Spike for a while.
I have seen every episode. It was my favorite before Firelfy.- ornerycat, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3It's still on occasionally. You just have to mute during the commercials.
I agree that DS9 is by far the best. I could go on for hours about why. God I'm such a geek.
- ornerycat, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3It's still on occasionally. You just have to mute during the commercials.
- userperson, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3It was on Spike for a while.
- insllvn, on 01/11/2008, -1/+37Does anyone remember an original SciFi series called The Invisible Man, or I-Man in a last digit attempt to woo fans of centagenarian talk radio hosts? That was a great show with good writing and a cool concept. I wish they would bring it back. The banter between Fawkes and Hobbes was fantastic. Bring that and Firefly back, and SciFi would be a must watch for me.
On a side note, if they were to bring Firefly back as a weekly show, I would be fine with them ignoring the events of Serenity. Anyone else?- Smalldude76, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3Not ignore, but I can definitely see a lot of backstory from when Wash and Book were still alive following season 1. Book in particular considering he's such a shady character.
- bjs3171, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3agreed. just make it Zoey's terrible nightmare or something.
- adml_shake, on 01/11/2008, -0/+6The Invisible Man was a awesome show, I was sad when it ended. The start of the down hill slide in my opinion.
- bagboyrebel, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3wasn't Serenity a completely separate story from the series anyway?
- endlessoul, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2I remember that show! I would have to agree, it was a good show. Too bad they nixed after what seemed like half a season.
- Orion682, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2It ran for 2 seasons, and it took me a hell of a long time to find all the episodes online, but I finally found them and went through them all again a few months ago. So good. I'm pissed they never released the DVDs for it, or even a digital download because all that exists now are TV-Rips of it. I'd gladly pay for a good quality box set of the show.
- Arnos, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1"ignoring the events of Serenity"
I disagree. As much as I liked Wash and Book, good stories often have loss/tragedy. A more interesting idea would be that a new series starts a year or so later, and they run across the Operative (now a Shepherd) following in Book's footsteps. Zoe could've gotten pregnant during the events of Serenity and now has an infant named Wash Jr. We could watch a series of this child being influenced by Mal,Zoe, Shep/Op, River, et al.- insllvn, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1Ok, I am not sure about the baby thing, seems a little trite. The catching up with the operative and now he is a shepherd thing I LOVE. Great idea.
- slapout, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1IMan was a great show. Esp the dialog between the partners. I remember saying to myself : "I didn't think Hollywood could write like that anymore"
- gharding, on 01/11/2008, -8/+16Dissing on Mansquito? ***** you, man. ***** you.
- fussbucket, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4Whats, funny is the writer for Mansquito also wrote the Last American Virgin with the infamous dick competition scene. It's no wonder he isn't writing mainstream anymore. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Z1RtZi83MyM
- DarkItIs, on 01/11/2008, -19/+8Agree with most of it except I love Ghost Hunters International.
- fety, on 01/11/2008, -5/+2I love GH, but it should be on Discovery or something like that. Them finding ghosts/spirits is REAL not science "fiction" And I wish it wasn't edited to sort of look like a reality show, with the dramatic sound effects and bs. Cut the drama *****!
- walkable, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3Haven't seen Ghost Hunters International yet (waiting in my DVR queue), but the thing I'm excited about is watching a show with Brian Harnois, Andy Andrews, and that dude from Ireland who is always super paranoid something really bad is going to happen. With those personalities on the show, how can it not be exciting? If you've ever watched Ghost Hunters, you'll digg me way up because you know what I'm talking about.
- Varney, on 01/11/2008, -0/+51So say we all.
- Viper244, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2So say we all!!!
- SAc0balt, on 01/11/2008, -7/+15Dear SciFi... WHY DID YOU CANCEL MST3K!!?!?! WHY!?!?!? THAT AND LEXX WERE THE ONLY TWO THINGS YOU HAD LEFT THAT WERE WORTH A *****!
- Kronos6948, on 01/11/2008, -2/+8Ya know, I would've agreed with you and dugg you up if you WEREN'T SO HEAVY HANDED WITH THE CAPS LOCK.
- budgetguitar, on 01/11/2008, -1/+4MST3K on Saturday mornings FTW!!!
- insllvn, on 01/11/2008, -0/+5I DON'T KNOW WHY WE ARE ALL YELLING! LOUD NOISES! LOUD NOISES!
- Error601, on 01/11/2008, -22/+3Had to stop after they listed Battlestar and Eureka as good. Flash Gordon is worse but none of them are particularly good.
- Kronos6948, on 01/11/2008, -1/+10Don't diss BSG. It's an awesome show.
- MacEnvy, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1And Eureka is acceptable, if they'd just settle on one story arc at a time. There's really too much going on once they get into the artifact/time travel/spies&betrayal stuff, all at the same time.
- BoomDiggity, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2I haven't even see Flash, don't want to really because the original movie is a classic.
- theutopian, on 01/11/2008, -1/+5Battlestar Galactica is quite good. You've probably never even watched more than an episode.
- starkruzr, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1WTF is wrong with you? Both of those are ***** fantastic. Eureka is well-written and actually *funny*, and BSG is some of the best television since Farscape.
- Kronos6948, on 01/11/2008, -1/+10Don't diss BSG. It's an awesome show.
- ItsMyWii, on 01/11/2008, -10/+3Yeah it's wrestling, haha, its gay and fake, but it's also their mot watched show. That's saying something.
- bpapa, on 01/11/2008, -0/+8Everything on the Sci-Fi is fake.
- fety, on 01/11/2008, -5/+0Except for Ghost Hunters. It just has crappy editing and stupid sound effects that interfere.
- Nitesmoke, on 01/11/2008, -2/+5umm, ghosts are fake

- Klak, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4"how about you go get some high-profile properties and big name writers to do stuff for the sci-fi channel" its not like Giamon and Gibson are just sitting at home by the phone waiting for the sci-fi channel to call, and im sure someone already owns the rights to make an Ender's Game movie.
- tbranham, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3Yes, you're right; however, if the SciFi channel used some leverage, they could (and likely _would_) convince the copyright owners to produce the stuff rather than sitting on it! Seriously, I like the idea of SciFi offering 10 or so episodes to these people to get the product out there. I've been waiting for someone to come forward with a Snow Crash miniseries for a long time...
- tadpole316, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3A Snow Crash miniseries would be awesome. I had heard awhile back that SciFi was going to crank out a miniseries for The Diamond Age, not sure if that was shelved or what.
- Klak, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2a previously dugg article does a pretty good job explaining why snow crash will never be made into a movie: http://www.pointlesswasteoftime.com/film/scifi.htm ...
- adml_shake, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1isn't someone already working on a CGI enders game movie?
- Saint3k, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1There is already an Ender's Game movie in production, and no it will not be CGI.
- tbranham, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3Yes, you're right; however, if the SciFi channel used some leverage, they could (and likely _would_) convince the copyright owners to produce the stuff rather than sitting on it! - Avaseal, on 01/11/2008, -2/+6Sigh...with the exception of the occasional Tremors movie, I don't think I've watched Sci-Fi channel since the days of Earth 2. Rebecca Gayheart was a babe
- KaiUno, on 01/11/2008, -2/+7We finally have access to SciFi in Belgium and I must say, it's totally disappoining. I never checked the US schedule, but down here it's Star Trek, TNG and Firefly. All good shows, but eh... seen, seen, seen. Honestly, I got rid of the package real quick. I'll stick to gathering up all the other great scifi from all the other networks by way of usenet.
- rdubb4, on 01/11/2008, -1/+0They only show the ***** Star Trek ever here in the states. Enterprise...enough people watched that the first go around to deserve to be syndicated?
- heiroglyph, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3You're lucky, we wish we had those shows in the US. We get wrestling and bad made for TV movies.
Did any of the execs read the name of the channel before taking it over?
- Destroytoy, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2Subby, why for aren't you not totally way more speaker der Anglish?
- ZebraCrew, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1Well it is an international site. But using an actual language would be nice.
- Destroytoy, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1I'm not normally a grammar Nazi, but some of these postings are closer to Spanglish than English. Between slang and double negatives, lies Hell.
- ZebraCrew, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1Well it is an international site. But using an actual language would be nice.
- mercano, on 01/11/2008, -0/+14I love how after canceling SG-1, they don't have anything to put on Fridays except Atlantis, Flash Gordon and... SG-1 reruns. I miss the days when Fridays ment some combination of new Heroes (well, the episode from Monday), SG-1, Atlantis, BSG, or Doctor Who. All good stuff.
- trying2hide, on 01/11/2008, -0/+12Dug for the mention of "Ender's Game" I love Orson Scott Card. But I also love cheesy sci-fi B movies. But am getting tired of "Boa" and the like. How about some new bad movies?
- Psi57, on 01/11/2008, -2/+2People like you are the reason SciFi keeps wasting money making "trendy" wannabe B movies. I hope your rectum flies out of your ass one day as you are walking down the street.
- pikpikcarrotmon, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2Though that would be quite amusing to watch, I wish that fate on no man.
- logicalnoise, on 01/11/2008, -0/+11also why the hell didn't they pick up "the amazing screw on head" easily one of the best animnated shows ever conceived and there's only one episode of it.
- OpaqueMurdock, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1Love the amazing screw on head!
- LokitheComplex, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2I've often wondered about that. With lots of thought out complex interesting science fiction stories written how come that end up making the same old same old. I guess they don't make lots of drama because its still the most expensive thing to make even if effects are cheap now. But I agree with the sentiment of the article. There's a whole world of science fiction beyond mainstream science fiction TV series.
Perhaps the could even just have discussions or explorations of science fiction concepts. Talking heads and stock footage is at least cheap as long as the ideas were stimulating. Imagine a contemporary provocative science fiction author interviewing a scientist, brainstorming a some ideas, or letting rip on a politician.
Though in having said all that I fear after growing up on SF I seem to have moved away from it in my 30s. Weirdly I now meet women obsessed with science fiction, comics and all things that would have excited me as a 14 year old. - mikehrp, on 01/11/2008, -0/+18Bring back MST3K reruns
- Spankov, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4Sod that! Commision an entirely new season!
- logicalnoise, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3better yet just have MST3K do whatever crap movie scifi runs. show teh crap movie then a month later show the MST3K version.
- Spankov, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4Sod that! Commision an entirely new season!
- bigdsinferno, on 01/11/2008, -2/+12Needs more Sliders.
- TexMachina, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4Are you serious? After Sci-Fi and their no-budget production team got a hold of Sliders it was nothing at all like the original. The gave up on the socio-political "what if" scenarios and turned it into movie rip-off show.
Oh noes we are in Jurassic Park world!
Oh Noes we are in Twister world!
Oh Noes we are in Tremors world!
Then the lead characters got off that sinking ship and it got even worse. Hell, they started sliding to the same ***** hotel in every episode! No no no! NO! Sliders is not an example of Sci-Fi doing it right. It is an example of Sci-Fi taking something that was good, killing it and then raping its corpse in front of an audience for an hour a week.- slider121, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4Actually that was FOX. All those episodes aired in season 3. Sci-fi picked up Sliders when FOX cancelled it after season 3. Season 4 (the first on Sci-Fi) was all about the Kromags. The season wasn't that bad (NO where near as good as season 1-2). Season 5 is when the series died. Jerry O Connell and his brother Charlie left the series, leaving Cleavant Derricks (Remmy) as the only orignal cast member. The budget was slashed and the writing went as well. The series was canceled for a reason. The series should only come back as a movie with Jerry O Connell to wrap up the cliff-hanger ending.
- TexMachina, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4Are you serious? After Sci-Fi and their no-budget production team got a hold of Sliders it was nothing at all like the original. The gave up on the socio-political "what if" scenarios and turned it into movie rip-off show.
- tfletch, on 01/11/2008, -0/+17dear Sci-Fi, whyis all of your movies and shows corny.
- SpaceRibs, on 01/11/2008, -1/+3If they wanted to save the channel without costing a lot of money, they should start playing good reruns like Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, MST3K and The Outer Limits. People love those shows and all I see is one crappy miniseries after another.
Where are the real movies? why can't they get this right? HOW HARD CAN THIS BE?- mjmelies, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1Twilight Zone (the old ones) is quite possibly one of the the best programs to ever be put on TV. Old FX aside it is a timeless show.
