MSF2, on 06/29/2008, -0/+77Not only will this be completely awesome in a way that will define awesomeness for generations to come (only a small exaggeration) but it is a huge step in finding a way to circumvent the studios. That's why it's so important that Dr. Horrible makes money, enough money to make people pay attention. Because this will prove what Joss Whedon and other writers have been saying all along: We don't need the studios. All they do is interfere with creativity, take money from the real creative minds of the writers, and try futilely to stop pirates. Joss is (hopefully) about to prove that he can make a simi-high-budget film, put it up on the internet free for a week, and STILL make money.
I am an amateur filmmaker. I hope one day to be able to make a high-budget film, put it on the internet, and make enough money to keep making them till I'm old, tired, and fat. But amateur filmmakers like me can't do that if the studios control everything, if independent films keep getting swept under the metaphorical carpet as they are now. The studios have all the control right now, which is why there is such a lack of creativity in American movies today, half of which are just sequels or remakes. I say they had their chance, and now it's time to move on.
Like so many of you I will be watching Dr. Horrible for free when it comes out. But please consider buying it once it becomes available, like I will. It's not just about supporting everyone who worked on this project, it's about proving something. Proving that we don't need greedy middle-men who interfere with creativity. Proving that we won't wait for the next writers strike before we see the need for change. Because that's what this is really about, it's about change- our ability to change the industry for the better. It's time the writers got back control of what they've written. Just imagine, if Dr. Horrible succeeds, and is followed by other successful independent films, there won't be a need for a writers strike ever again.

Of course, you could just "get all piratey", which Joss Whedon specifically requested that we *not* do. (And before the piratey bury brigade gets me, remember that we want this to do well *economically* because it's an experiment in the sustainability (read: profitability) of online distribution.)

    Funny thing on Piracy and Terrorism. When I visited So Korea two years ago they sold illegal DVD's all over the place. We were in Soul near the US base and the majority of the people buying the pirated movies were..... you guessed it, US soldiers stationed there. We talked to one of them who said he buys them and sends them back to the states as gifts for friends and family. ya, those soldiers are a bunch of ***** terrorists.
    Also how does you downloading it freely from their site and me downloading it freely else where (Us both not paying) differentiate?

before everyone else says it, YES, I did have this idea like, a million years ago... right after I had the idea then INVENTED the internet. (sorry Joss, just keepin' it real!)

that outta the way: JOSS THIS IS BRILLIANT.

the trailer is fun, cool and funny! the idea, character design & site are simple and great. (less IS more! not just a slogan used more than less.)

as just a regular stiff (so far...) I pledge to do my part to spread the word. seems us web-types, geeky-chicks and flat-out nerds are quite plentiful in today's world, and more so, seems like we've got something to say and some cash to buy stuff with -- so we get people's attention.

I am saying: DEAR SIR, THIS APPEALS TO ME. THANK YOU FOR IT BEING FREE. I CAN'T WAIT TO BUY THIS ITEM. I AM EAGER AND LOOKING FORWARD TO MAKING PURCHASES OF SIMILAR GOODS IN THE FUTURE.

I AM A REAL PERSON not affiliated in anyway (sadly) with any of this beyond my allegiance to good storytelling, witty dialogue and good clean fun (even when dirty).

I hope this helps. I will kudo, digg, spread, and... do whatever else I can with actual talking to actual people upto and beyond the show's release.
