The 5 Most Grotesque Canadian PSA's Ever To Air watch!
pongalong.com — A list of disgusting accident related Public Service Announcements for Canadian Health and Safety accident prevention program. Warning: These are some severely twisted commercials showing gnarly accidents and are not for the faint of heart.

- ih8ualot, on 01/08/2008, -18/+74But they still can't show Kate Winslet's boobs when they play Titanic on cable television. I tell ya...
- kingmanic, on 01/08/2008, -3/+105Thats American TV, the CBC would show nipples. In fact when the CBC aired "the centre of the world" they kept Alisha Klass' explicit sex scene. Canadians are more mature about sex or more into it. One or the other.
- ElAssoWipo, on 01/08/2008, -0/+48??? Maybe not at 3 in the afternoon but there's plenty of boobs on Canadian Tv. Espescially on the french channels.
- jezsik, on 01/08/2008, -0/+31Sheesh, there are plenty of boobs on American TV too. Bill O'Reilly springs to mind.
- ElAssoWipo, on 01/08/2008, -1/+17O'reilly is not a boob. He is an *****. Bob Saget on America's funniest videos was a boob.
- thwackitechnica, on 01/08/2008, -0/+6Boobs vs. Assholes: know the difference, it could save your life.
- Animal, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4Actually I remember watching The Thomas Crown Affair in the afternoon one time on a local Canadian channel and it was completely unedited so there was plenty of Rene Russo boobs to be seen.
- ufia, on 01/08/2008, -1/+30Canadian television can show every boobs they want and then some after 10pm.
- PhoneGuy, on 01/08/2008, -0/+45Folks, hate to tell yah, but Friday and Saturday nights we get porn on late night TV in Canada ... the only thing they cut is the money shot.
- ElAssoWipo, on 01/08/2008, -0/+10French movie network for the win! And the money shot!
- thwackitechnica, on 01/08/2008, -0/+9Best grade 7 Montreal trip ever: French softcore on 3 channels in the hotel.
- ElAssoWipo, on 01/08/2008, -0/+10French movie network for the win! And the money shot!
- ComstockGordon, on 01/08/2008, -0/+20There's a candid camera type show called Just for Laughs Gags in Canada. One time they had a computer in a library automatically go to hardcore porn sites whenever a person tried to use the computer. They didn't censor the images or sounds of women moaning and it was 4:00 in the afternoon. It was pretty funny especially because the show was rated PG
- HyperionHK, on 01/08/2008, -0/+14Ya, that's a more American thing. Mainstream Canadian TV channels are known to show softcore pornography at night some nights.
- stoanhart, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4Ahhh, to be 14 again...
- nikkesen, on 01/08/2008, -7/+1Ah... what do you expect from the WISB? Hell, they're the same people who have a whole monument on Front Street W in Toronto, near the CBC building dedicated to people who died in work place accidents.
- graemee, on 01/08/2008, -0/+11The main reason that kind of censorship happens on Canadian TV is they get the TV print from the US. Case in point is Lethal Weapon, the first one, was on CTV - ***** uncut. Then it was on NBC or such the same week, and it was freaking cut. Then it was on another Canadian network, CBC and it was the freaking cut version. I don't remember seeing the ***** uncut version on a Canadian network since.
- CannedMango, on 01/08/2008, -0/+12You must be ***** upset.
- graemee, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1I freaking am.
- WebCester, on 01/08/2008, -0/+7I like how you distinguished between "***** uncut" and "freaking cut".
- graemee, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1Thank you, I figured someone saw the TV version.
- CannedMango, on 01/08/2008, -0/+12You must be ***** upset.
- johnnykalma, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3you dont live in canada do you?
- bobartig, on 01/08/2008, -6/+1Kate Winslet? Pretty face, but I'll pass on her boobs.
- Cerpin_Taxt, on 01/09/2008, -1/+4This comment is soaking with failure
- Tripw0l, on 01/08/2008, -12/+52They make you laugh but also make you think. It's clear that they're using dark humor to get things changed. Probably the same people that did the Volkswagen sudden crash commercials. Well done but I still think that the Germans did it first with a full-length video on forklift operation. (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-399357810 ...
- spyrochaete, on 01/08/2008, -1/+4Dugg for linking that hilarious forklift video
- jon30041, on 01/08/2008, -6/+16... They made you laugh?
Really, that's just pretty ***** up man. I mean, the ads just make me think that it's everyone's job to be observant and cautious. The forklift guy drove like an idiot (always turn around when reversing), the woman with the ladder should have centered it under where the sign would be (no leaning, no breakage) and the funeral guy should have worn all of his safety equipment (like he said).
The woman with the grease and the welder on the beam, sure, those were more understandable for the message of the ads, and the most shocking to me. They didn't get up after their incidents.- mlvassallo, on 01/08/2008, -5/+14I don't think these are meant to make you laugh at all. I think you need to get checked out.
- oderdigg, on 01/08/2008, -5/+11I laughed. Where's your sense of humor?
- JoeDiggsIt, on 01/09/2008, -1/+4Not there, dude, what was funny about any of these?
- mlvassallo, on 01/09/2008, -1/+5Yes, seeing representations of people getting horribly hurt or killed while on the job is funny. Wait, wait... nope. No it isn't.
- Veni_Vidi_Vici, on 01/09/2008, -1/+1"I don't think these are meant to make you laugh at all. I think you need to get checked out."
Where did jon30041 say that he laughed?
- oderdigg, on 01/08/2008, -5/+11I laughed. Where's your sense of humor?
- BearinG, on 02/01/2008, -0/+1The one with the grease hurt just watching it.. i guess they are all a little hardcore .. even if they are dramatizations...
Gives the message though
- mlvassallo, on 01/08/2008, -5/+14I don't think these are meant to make you laugh at all. I think you need to get checked out.
- litolist, on 01/08/2008, -2/+4Wow, that video made my day!
- calon9, on 01/08/2008, -2/+6Dark humor is indeed often subtle. But fyi, these commercials do not contain any.
- giid, on 01/08/2008, -3/+3I laughed as well, but felt guilty for doing so. I think the humor I found in the commercials is that I could see the accidents coming as soon as the scene is presented--that and I know the commercials aren't real. If it was played out in real life or some home video, I'd probably be mortified for having seen it.
- 888gavin, on 01/08/2008, -3/+5I cannot understand why anyone would think these are funny.
- johnnykalma, on 01/08/2008, -3/+1is dat some Staplerfahrer Klaus?
- qwertydvorak, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2my favorite psa was funny. it had a surgeon getting ready to cut on a guy, and he was getting high. he kept giggling and saying, "so, we're here to take out your appendix ?" the guy looks up from the table and says, "no, my tonsils." doctor looks back down and says something like, "yeah, the appendix isn't too hard to remove." been about 15 years ago, but was hilarious. i wish i could find it on youtube or something.
- mindsnare, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1I think people who are reading these replies aren't looking at what comment thread they are reading. All the funny comments under the German Forlift video are correct, it's bloody hilarious, click on the link and watch it, it's obviously supposed to be funny. They're not talking about the Canadian ads at all.
- Carthagefield, on 01/08/2008, -6/+120Hahahaha, Canadian tv ROCKS!
- SLockhart, on 01/08/2008, -0/+13Google "trailer park boys" if you haven't already heard of it.
- Carthagefield, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Heh, sounds a blast. We have an equivalent here in the UK. It's a channel 4 sitcom called 'Shameless'. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shameless

- tweetsa, on 01/09/2008, -4/+2as a canadian let me tell you that it most certainly does not. not at all, no no no no
it's actually pretty damn *****.- moliver000, on 01/09/2008, -1/+1This man does not represent us
- JohnPocket, on 01/09/2008, -7/+1 This is aboot preventing accidents, not aboot humor!
- BearinG, on 02/01/2008, -1/+1Where the hell did you ever hear ANY canadian say aboot.. seriously
- SLockhart, on 01/08/2008, -0/+13Google "trailer park boys" if you haven't already heard of it.
- levitron, on 01/08/2008, -13/+116...and every time they come on, I have to cover my 4 year-old's eyes.
- NoCt1, on 01/08/2008, -23/+12And in 12 years then what?
- amadeusdemarzi, on 01/08/2008, -1/+17..in 12 years he will let his daughter see them, their is such thing as being age appropriate.
As humans develop, they learn to cope and handle situations. Showing a young child grotesque violence or imagery can really scar them when they don't quite know how to deal with it. It's not rocket science.- CedEx, on 01/08/2008, -1/+12Exactly... my friend's son is 2 years old and is terrified of the characters in Rock Band as he can't make the connection that it is just a cartoon done with a computer. I'm sure as he gets a little older and is more aware, things like this won't scare him. Some things are interpreted differently at different levels of maturity.
- amadeusdemarzi, on 01/08/2008, -1/+17..in 12 years he will let his daughter see them, their is such thing as being age appropriate.
- LogicBomB, on 01/08/2008, -22/+7Why?
I hope you don't do the same with nudity. If you make it a huge ***** deal then they think it's a huge ***** deal. Teach them it's okay and maybe they'll be able to ask questions without having a heart attack later in life.- panicofficer, on 01/08/2008, -2/+21Do you have a 4 year old? I'm guessing not.
- chedabob, on 01/08/2008, -1/+16I'm 18 and #2 made me feel sick. I'd be scarred for life if I'd seen it as a 4 year old.
- stoanhart, on 01/08/2008, -0/+10Sure, LogicBomB. Do you also like staying up all night because you have to run to your 4-year-old's bedside due to nightmares?
- amadeusdemarzi, on 01/08/2008, -5/+29I am glad levitron is getting dugg up, because these replies he is getting are absolutely appaling.
If people think it's perfectly ok to show your 4 year old child imagery of people getting killed in horrible and grotesque ways, then we have a serious problem with society (not that we don't, I'm just saying).
My mother specializes in infant and young child care and development. These formative years are some of the most important years of a human's life in determining how they will grow into adults. And I am not talking about some pseudo science/voodoo *****. I am talking brain development.
We take for granted that most of us here can seperate ourselves from the situations in those videos. We understand that it's fake, that it's not really happening. We further understand at a conceptual level that it's simply a warning and a message. I am sorry but a young 4 year old child can't.
Oh, and they guy drawing the nudity connection? Please, a completely different subject, the OP didn't even talk about his stance on nudity, it's a straw man arguement. I don't understand how you are drawing a connection there, because there is none.- amadeusdemarzi, on 01/08/2008, -2/+2I just wanted to quickly add a thank you to the OP. It's refreshing to hear of someone who cares about what their children are exposed to.
- Dax420, on 01/08/2008, -1/+9The connection is that for some messed up reason (cough*puritans*cough) society feels that a child will be "morally corrupted" by seeing a Janet Jackson nipple slip, but scenes of grotesque violence are somehow just fine. In reality it should be the opposite. It's not a straw man argument, he is pointing out the hypocrisy.
- thankyousir, on 01/09/2008, -1/+1exactly
- ironkhan, on 01/09/2008, -0/+5Just change the channel to avoid arousing the kid's curiosity
- pinkert11, on 01/09/2008, -1/+5I have never had to cover my 4 year olds eyes, as these are only shown in the late evening, once they are in bed. Lets not pretend that the these are in the middle of Dora or Backyardigins. Sometimes people need to be shocked to wake up. Good ads, gets to the point with realistic results and properly time slotted.
- NoCt1, on 01/08/2008, -23/+12And in 12 years then what?
- domdunc, on 01/08/2008, -2/+25Reminds me of the drink driving ads here in the UK. Some of them are pretty shocking the first time you see them. But then again we get boobs and swearing on tv so it's par for the course i guess.
- swgc5, on 01/08/2008, -1/+4We also get boobs and swearing in Canada.
- hillkiwi, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2I was amazed to see naked women in UK news papers. Might get people over here more interested in the news...
- Sabin, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3Ya, the religious right would absolutely love it i'm sure.
- Carthagefield, on 01/09/2008, -1/+2***** the Religous Right!
- Sabin, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3Ya, the religious right would absolutely love it i'm sure.
- jtingley, on 01/08/2008, -1/+84Being an American in my 20's I'd say I'm pretty jaded to violence and gore of the highest order. Watching these actually stirred a reaction in me. I don't think that's happened since the dead baby scene from Trainspotting. WOW!
- kingmanic, on 01/08/2008, -2/+82American media shows violence without consequences. These ads are all about consequences. I think thats the bit that shocks you.
- MikeGrenade, on 01/09/2008, -0/+6Logged in to digg you up. Spot on.
- moliver000, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1All the diggs in the world for you, sir.
- DiggasWAttitude, on 01/08/2008, -10/+3I had a reaction too - I laughed my ass off when the Godzilla fireball launched that guy off the building. Like Homer watching DUI car crash films, its funny because I don't know him.
- oderdigg, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4and it's fake.
- TomTruelle, on 01/08/2008, -2/+2oh lawd lol, that trainspotting scene was the creepiest ***** thing ive ever seen...
- nutzngum, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2i still haven't seen Trainspotting...now i'm pretty sure i never will...
- krisscofield, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2He made it sound worse than it was. It's a seconds-long scene of a (suffocated?) dead baby. They show worse on T.V.
- Dax420, on 01/08/2008, -2/+1You should, its a damn good movie. And the soundtrack kicks ass.
- tyywebb, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1The hot oil one looked the worst to me. I guess because I used to work in a kitchen and it looked the most believable.
- kingmanic, on 01/08/2008, -2/+82American media shows violence without consequences. These ads are all about consequences. I think thats the bit that shocks you.
- BoneStamp, on 01/08/2008, -2/+14I remember seeing a couple of these on TV and being absolutely shocked. They had the intended impact on me, but it would surely be too much for some viewers.
- unicronband, on 01/08/2008, -2/+69Canadians are great with this type of stuff. Like the cigarette warning labels that take up half the pack. Like this one http://www.smoke-free.ca/warnings/warningsimages/b ...
- BoneStamp, on 01/08/2008, -2/+11It's because the government is footing the health care bill, they have to do everything they can to reduce that bill.
- BearinG, on 02/01/2008, -0/+1Isn't that a good idea? I certainly wouldn't want a dumb co-workers dying like that in front of me when I'm working..
- SuperMoses, on 02/09/2008, -0/+1Yup, if it was the private sector they'd wouldn't focus on preventive care. Preventive care = preventive profits.
- topace3000, on 01/08/2008, -1/+8Haha, I like how for some people that would seem worse than, oh you know, lung cancer.
- desmondregan, on 01/08/2008, -3/+3i always just assumed they had those in the states
- poopz, on 01/08/2008, -12/+2Canadians can't read? Well here in America, we just have text warnings on cigarettes, and people still get the message. Most smokers understand the risk when they smoke, but they really can't help it. Plastering a big picture of a flaccid cigarette (ha ha penis) isn't going to stop anyone from smoking, its just stupid.
- BoneStamp, on 01/09/2008, -2/+3The penis one is one thing, you should see the photo of the smokers lung... now that has impact!
- cnot3, on 01/09/2008, -5/+4no one cares, everyone saw it in grade school, stick your PSA's up your ass.
- BoneStamp, on 01/09/2008, -1/+2But nobody in 3rd grade is really thinking about smoking. When you see the lung as you're smoking then it has impact.
- cnot3, on 01/09/2008, -5/+4no one cares, everyone saw it in grade school, stick your PSA's up your ass.
- thebusdriver, on 01/09/2008, -1/+3its to draw attention to it, and also to make sure kids see it
- hillkiwi, on 01/09/2008, -1/+4You didn't notice the text to the right of the image? You had to read it to get what the picture meant. I doubt the picture alone would make a lot of sense.
- styler5, on 01/09/2008, -1/+2That's not the point, *****. Visual advertising is much more effective than text-based ones. How you can argue with that is beyond me.
Example: "Gorillas of Congo are illegally slaughtered every week" would inspire more people with pictures.
http://digg.com/general_sciences/Please_Help_Save_ ... - moliver000, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1So, to bring it back to TFA - if you clicked a link that took you to a page that describe a horrible accident as a result of neglect, you think it'd be as effective as the video?
- BoneStamp, on 01/09/2008, -2/+3The penis one is one thing, you should see the photo of the smokers lung... now that has impact!
- SuperMoses, on 02/09/2008, -0/+1More: http://www.cdc.gov/PCD/issues/2007/apr/images/06_0 ...
- BoneStamp, on 01/08/2008, -2/+11It's because the government is footing the health care bill, they have to do everything they can to reduce that bill.
- madebytam, on 01/08/2008, -2/+68They left out this important PSA about men's health. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uayowbYqvZA&e
- neoform, on 01/08/2008, -0/+22http://youtube.com/watch?v=rON7EeT0Nxg
I thought this one was more disturbing than any of those..- rexbron, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1D;
- daEvan, on 01/09/2008, -1/+1Holy *****!
- twocenthug, on 01/08/2008, -2/+2wtf!?
- mdoerr, on 01/08/2008, -0/+12I love the pubes on the ice at the end of the shot.
- LowROI, on 01/09/2008, -0/+4i can't believe neither of those were rickrolls.
- Harfish, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2Personally I liked the breast one better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbkX8xaEd-w
- neoform, on 01/08/2008, -0/+22http://youtube.com/watch?v=rON7EeT0Nxg
- coollettuce, on 01/08/2008, -2/+45I'd rather have ads like these in America that are against company negligence than the propaganda ads that are anti-cannabis.
- ElAssoWipo, on 01/08/2008, -3/+13Ever compare American government information about marijuana to Canadian information about marijuana? Really puts things into perspective...
Canada:
http://hc-sc.gc.ca/dhp-mps/marihuana/how-comment/m ...
US:
http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/concern/marijuana.html- CannedMango, on 01/08/2008, -1/+5Interesting, one reads like a textbook, the other like a propaganda flyer... care to guess which country is which?
- Genthree, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3Yes, but to be fair one is from the Department of Justice and the other is from the Department of Health in a country that allows medical Marijuana. I agree that the US needs to lighten up, but you're comparing apples and oranges.
- ElAssoWipo, on 01/08/2008, -2/+1That's the whole point.
- Sabin, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3Actually its more like comparing misinformation with information.
- ElAssoWipo, on 01/08/2008, -2/+1That's the whole point.
- ElAssoWipo, on 01/08/2008, -3/+13Ever compare American government information about marijuana to Canadian information about marijuana? Really puts things into perspective...
- Kinneas12, on 01/08/2008, -1/+60When I first saw the oil one on my TV, I was shocked and am unable to see it again. I have to say that they WORK though. I'm not joking when I say that I'm pretty observant about workplace safety now.
And Canadian TV is far saner than American TV. Go to Comedy Network at 6 in the evening and you'll hear pretty much any profane word in the dictionary.
I agree that this is a little too much for some viewers, but it's a campaign that is only on TV for a short while. Don't expect to see this kinda thing again for a long time. You only need to be shown a shock ad once for it to work. If only this was true for all the other retarded advertising on TV that they just try to oversaturate your eyes with.- igyigyigy, on 01/08/2008, -0/+8Here's one we have here on Irish TV
http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=BLtKAKF8hLo
I can't seem to find the one most people here would recognise though, hard to search for these things on youtube, you'd think they'd put them online for free...
- igyigyigy, on 01/08/2008, -0/+8Here's one we have here on Irish TV
- ElAssoWipo, on 01/08/2008, -3/+27Those aren't grotesque. Certainly not the most grotesque canadian commercials.
They show things that can really happen and the real consequences of these things. And they work. It's like those anti-smoking ads where they show you a lung except it's about safety.- FuriousGopher, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3I remember having horrible childhood memories about the anti-smoking ads they put on CTV. I'll never forget the ad of the raspy-voiced woman with the hole in her neck because of her smoking addiction; THEN SHE EFFING INHALED A CIGARETTE WITH IT!
That scarred me for years- BearinG, on 02/01/2008, -0/+1Yeah, that and Astar the robot that lost his arm.. oh my god

- BearinG, on 02/01/2008, -0/+2I'm not sure if it was on french TV or not.. but did you guys ever see that one where the guy's glove gets stuck in a machine and it pulls him in a little by little and he screams but no one hears because of the loud machines.. you can see his hand or fingers move in ways they shouldn't.. i thought that one was pretty hard..
- FuriousGopher, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3I remember having horrible childhood memories about the anti-smoking ads they put on CTV. I'll never forget the ad of the raspy-voiced woman with the hole in her neck because of her smoking addiction; THEN SHE EFFING INHALED A CIGARETTE WITH IT!

- Scratkiller, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3i second that motion
- arcangelgabriel, on 01/09/2008, -0/+2Precisely.
- cbrunet, on 01/08/2008, -9/+4Ughh... that chef woman gets me everytime. I've started frantically trying to change the channel whenever I see the start of it. They need to warn people more that the commercial is about to come on. It was on during a hockey game once, and I can jsut imagine the amount of children that it scared the crap out of. Message received Government of Canada, I'll never cook or let anyone I know cook ever again. Ever.
- giddieon, on 01/08/2008, -0/+9I make my daughter watch them because she needs to learn that safety is first and your boss is not going to look after you...
Kids are protected enough when they grow up they need to know that most people don;t give a ***** what happens as long as the money is coming in...- Kinneas12, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3How old is your daughter and what does she think of them? Just curious. Thanks!
- nikkesen, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2Good for you. Work place safety is important. She'll understand quickly why daddy didn't come home after work...
- giddieon, on 01/08/2008, -0/+5Well my daughter is 10 and she thought they were good... it was had for the lady with the oil and she wants to help figure out how to make it better... but the best way for that is prevention I told her... and she told me ways she could have made things safer like cleaning the oil on the floor...
She thinks her words "that they should not assume things are ok"
- davidkeithjones, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1Yes, hide kids from the truth. Exposing your kids to reality is horrible, making them mindless idiots is much better.
- giddieon, on 01/08/2008, -0/+9I make my daughter watch them because she needs to learn that safety is first and your boss is not going to look after you...
- mattyd12466, on 01/08/2008, -1/+25wow wow and .....wow
the kitchen one is brutal- demesisx, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4agreed. had the biggest effect on me out of all of them.
The ladder fall one was pretty crazy too. - mondokoosh737, on 01/09/2008, -0/+3ditto. it's going to be a long time before that scream gets out of my head. *shudder*
- demesisx, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4agreed. had the biggest effect on me out of all of them.
- Jameo, on 01/08/2008, -1/+111My girlfriend and I saw the burning oil one just after finishing a horror movie and it shocked us badly, we just sat on the couch kind of starting at the TV in a state of disbelief. I'll never walk around a kitchen carrying a huge vat of boiling oil when I'm about to get a promotion and married. Learned my lesson.
- CedEx, on 01/08/2008, -2/+8Yup.. the best time to carry oil is AFTER your promotion and wedding. And even then, you still don't have to carry oil, since you are promoted, you can order the new guy to do it before his wedding. This ensures that the new guy doesn't take your job.
- topcad, on 01/08/2008, -1/+49Grotesque? More like awesome! I remember the ladder one.. but the boiling pot was the best. Really makes you want to stop and be more aware of your surroundings...
- Devotia, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3Is that last one Harold Perrineau? If it's not, I feel bad about feeling so happy about him getting killed so horribly.
- hauln4, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1WAAAALLLTTT!!!!
- BrianCrosbie, on 01/08/2008, -0/+49The oil burn one was hardcore.
- qmeister, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3The problem is the people who are watching them aren't the ones cutting corners at the work place. these might scare the worker to doing more right, and he/she can complain about conditions all they want, but if the company doesn't take the responsibility to take care of things then "accidents" will continue to happen.
Nice videos, though.- Kinneas12, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2In Canada we have the "WSIB" Workplace Safety Insurance Board or something like that? Essentially you can force your employers to fix stuff up or they'll be shut down/fined severely. I think the biggest thing is people don't easily spot the potential hazards. I worked in a kitchen once and something almost identical happened. A friend slipped and his foot ended up in a scalding pot of beefy water. What was the pot doing on the floor? No space left anywhere else. They came and shut the place down and had the employer pay him for the time he couldn't work.
- evil-doer, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3the people who cut corners at the workplace do not watch tv ever?
- nikkesen, on 01/08/2008, -0/+5By making the worker more aware, you empower them.
We have a law in Canada that permits workers to decline work that may be unsafe without fear of losing their job.- BearinG, on 02/01/2008, -0/+1Hell, even in Gov't offices last summer.. there was a day where the A/C didn't work and it was around 30 degrees celcius inside.. some complained and they sent us all home until they fixed it..
If it could potentially be a problem to someone, they need to fix it.
- BearinG, on 02/01/2008, -0/+1Hell, even in Gov't offices last summer.. there was a day where the A/C didn't work and it was around 30 degrees celcius inside.. some complained and they sent us all home until they fixed it..

Boring at first, gets good at around 3:30.- WebCester, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3That's Staplerfahrer Klaus, a short film. It's hilarious because it really looks like a safety video.

- WebCester, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3That's Staplerfahrer Klaus, a short film. It's hilarious because it really looks like a safety video.
- Cyberbladewolf, on 01/08/2008, -1/+12If anything we need some PSA's like this to air in the US. Unfortunately, PSA's that actually have a chance of getting results won't air because those things would scare and offend people. Instead, we get some PSA that say's, "Safety first." without even making you think about why you should be concerned about safety.
- kidlinux, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1Instead you just air things like Cops where you can witness 9 heavily armed police officers gun down (or execute) a knife-wielding criminal.
- howdareyou, on 01/08/2008, -2/+1Nothing will ever beat the one I recently heard on KLSX about airplane turbulence. The PSA basically lists several sports/activities that your body is designed for, like football. We then learn the one thing our bodies are not meant to handle is airplane turbulence. Actually the entire "Talk to your kids" campaign is a probably tab more retarded.
- stalman, on 01/08/2008, -3/+27"There is something wrong with Canada if you need to show these kinds of gut-wrenching videos just to get a point across."
Hmm, not sure about the misdirected blame to Canada for "needing" these videos. Just because they are on our airways does not mean that we needed them.- onionoino, on 01/08/2008, -9/+1blame canada
- enmand, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3I'm glad someone posted something about it, when I read that, I thought "How foolish is this person?".
We don't need the ads to be the way they are, but it does a good job at both getting the point across and being accurate. - BearinG, on 02/01/2008, -0/+1There was actually a few years ago, a young guy who was trying to do a "jump" over railway tracks with his car just caus there was this bump... his friend was filming it.. the guy lost control, ended off the road and the car rolled and he died. The mother of the kid who died gave the tape to the police so they could use it for prevention.
This video shows the car going.. losing control, rolling and then his friend running to the car (with the camera still rolling) and calling out his name and no answer.. THAT is hardcore when you know that this is not a remake of the events but actually what happened.. This was on TV for a while in Quebec..
But it does make you think
- joshuagor44, on 01/08/2008, -2/+0My whole body jerked at that last one!
I don't remember seeing any of them except for #1, and even for that one I don't remember him getting blown off a building. - uberfu, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4They're shocking but they're not_ The shock value is perfect enough to get the point across better than having puppy dogs and butterflies talking about the same subject_ I think US TV should lighten up a little more and allow parents to regulate their kids more than they way the US Gov't bends to presure of the lazy parents to regulate their kids for them_
- feebie, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Absolutely right. It is the responsibility of the parents to regulate tv watching in their house, not the government.
And if there is something on television that offends you, you have the power to change the channel.
- feebie, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Absolutely right. It is the responsibility of the parents to regulate tv watching in their house, not the government.
- MrRoboto, on 01/08/2008, -1/+23They are definitely very powerful. If it takes this kind of shocking add to create awareness then it is doing its job. The one with the girl in the kitchen was especially disturbing to me.
- cnot3, on 01/09/2008, -2/+2And what job is that exactly? Good luck Canada, with your war on Accidents. May it meet with the same success as the wars on terror, drugs, sex, and Iraq.
- giddieon, on 01/08/2008, -1/+11I think they are a great tool many workers don't know there rights and some works get complacent... people are fools to think that this stuff does not happen everyday...
Please Digg this artical more people should see it...- themonkman, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1Is nobody else seeing here that a lot of these "accidents" could've been solved by not only exercising some common sense (not climbing a tall ladder by yourself, not carrying a heavy pot of hot grease that you clearly can barely handle by yourself, watching where the ***** your backing up into with a forklift, putting a faulty harness on when you know it's faulty and submitting to working near busted acetylene gas tanks) but pure complacency? Workers need to speak up and demand something gets changed if they see ***** like this. Ultimately, we are all responsible for ourselves, our lives, and our safety. I also won't work for a company that ignores the safety concerns of their employees. It would seem like the people who made this PSA want to blame everyone else ultimately for the misfortunes of us all. It's like the person who blames their calamity filled lives on the fact that they didn't get hugged enough as a child. I'm tired of this *****. If you need to look for someone to blame, look no further than a mirror...because you had the power to change things either by diplomacy or force, but you didn't. On the other hand, these videos had great makeup artists working for them. It all looked very realistic.- WebCester, on 01/08/2008, -0/+6WALL OF TEXT
- nongmo, on 01/09/2008, -0/+0"It would seem like the people who made this PSA want to blame everyone else" - No. With the exception of the scaffold commercial, every commercial shown had the injured worker saying something along the lines of "I should have..." while also realizing that the company is at least partially to blame. Yes, ultimately we are all responsible for our own safety, however that doesn't exonerate those who create conditions which endanger that safety.
The main point of these PSAs was to encourage workers to be more vigilant about workplace hazards, and you need to re-watch them if you think otherwise.

- maximm, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1those rock though it's true i have to change the channel or move my little 4 year old out of the room when they come on. Gets the point across though eh.
- volvinator, on 01/08/2008, -1/+34Great campaign. Congrats to the agency who thought it up. I think to label it "Grotesque" is really grotesquely missing the point. The US needs effective, thought-provoking ads like these. Less "ask your doctor if Cialis is right for you", More "Don't be stupid."
- topace3000, on 01/08/2008, -2/+1I'd rather not have our government waste even more money than they already do making ads about common sense.
- Icyfenix, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Well most people don't have it in spades like you- they need the "common" sense that isn't so common.
- volvinator, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1I think it's clear by most of the diggers comments that this sort of campaign isn't exactly a "waste" as you say. We need some good impact ads as opposed to this "above the influence" ***** that we have become jaded to tolerate.
- topace3000, on 01/08/2008, -2/+1I'd rather not have our government waste even more money than they already do making ads about common sense.
- Torx, on 01/08/2008, -6/+3the forklift commercial should be omitted, you should always look behind you while backing up.. he obviously didnt. It couldve been prevented.
- tmbrwolf19, on 01/08/2008, -0/+12I kinda think thats the point... all these 'accidents' are preventable. And thats the point, awareness, not extremely unlike scenarios.
- BearinG, on 02/01/2008, -0/+1They are all preventable.. people do stupid crap like that in real life..
- Pake, on 01/08/2008, -5/+1They should all be omitted really. The electrician should of worn his safety equipment, the ladder has a warning label telling you to use a second person for stability, the fork lift has it's flaw as you pointed out, the oil should of been cleaned by her like she said, and the guy knew his safety harness was broke. It's hard to blame a company for negligence when the employees are negligent. Everyone of them could easily be prevented by just using basic commonsense.
- davidkeithjones, on 01/08/2008, -2/+5The idea isn't to blame companies, it is to raise awareness among workers. Geez you're a dumb bastard.
- Pake, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1I realize that it's to raise awareness, but it's like they say "I should have..." and list one thing they did wrong, only to turn around and then blame the company for 2 other things. Take the ladder one for example. She says that she shouldn't have leaned, but then goes on about how the company should of made her have someone helping and also bought a new ladder. I can't help but feel it's a commercial blaming companies for negligence when that's what we keep hearing the victims say.
- davidkeithjones, on 01/08/2008, -2/+5The idea isn't to blame companies, it is to raise awareness among workers. Geez you're a dumb bastard.

"there really are no accidents" or whatever those psa's said- WebCester, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2http://youtube.com/watch?v=ljsX3I7xUu0
- thax, on 01/08/2008, -0/+7Pretty well done. Whenever you see safety videos the "accidents" look so fake it doesn't have the same impact; you get lulled into a false sense of security because you say to yourself "that could never happen to me". All these look very plausible and realistic.
- BearinG, on 02/01/2008, -0/+1Even movies dont seem as realistic as these
- feebie, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4Yes they are shocking, but I think it takes something like this to get a point across to some people. Some people just don't take safety seriously until they've seen what really can happen when it is ignored. Better safe than ignorant!
- BearinG, on 02/01/2008, -0/+1And its not always about YOUR safety.. it might the other guy that forgot to clean the oil off the floor
- Yokohamalion, on 01/08/2008, -14/+1These ads are stupid. Scare the ***** out of people and children so the government can save a few bucks in workers comp. Its the same as cigarettes. Totally legal to smoke but i have to look at peoples innards everytime I light up so medicare can save a few bucks. ***** off and leave me to my vices. The government is not my nanny.
- nikkesen, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4While I agree with you on smoking, it's more than just saving a few bucks on worker's comp. Would you rather be mutilated for life and on worker's comp or enjoying your life while having a crappy but safe job?
- schmalzbauer, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4This has nothing to do with the government or cigarettes. Workplace injury and accidents aren't "vices". Of course they're meant to scare the ***** out of people. Workplace accidents are scary! Serious injury is scary, especially if it happens to you.
- kingmanic, on 01/08/2008, -0/+4If you lived on an island by yourself, that'd be fine. But if you ***** up and someone else gets hurt you are a *****. If your vices end up costing me 100k indirectly through taxes or Health premiums then you are a ***** as well. Freedom requires responsibilities. ***** like you are the ones who prompt a nanny state. If you were responsible there would be no demand to curb your idiocy. You are the strawman that overbearing people use to achieve a nanny state. You even use the same tactic pro-nanny state people use.. .think of the children.
- Scheissen, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1Exactly why socialism is fundamentally flawed.
- CedEx, on 01/08/2008, -0/+0And when your vices lead you to lung cancer and emphysema, I suspect you'll be begging the government to nanny you back to health won't you? At times like this I wish we had private health care. Or perhaps they should deny your coverage because you willing contracted these diseases.
- JavertHolmes, on 01/08/2008, -0/+9In terms of other shocking PSAs, another Canadian PSA I've seen -- not gross, shocking -- is with a homeless dude walking around the streets of Toronto(?) with him narrating "If I were to tell you I'm hungry, you probably wouldn't care. If I were to say '*****,' you probably would. *****, I'm hungry." It was meant to air during a time slot that would throw people off, but I don't know if it ever got real air time.
- schmalzbauer, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1All of those PSA's, including the one you talked about, have been aired on TV at some point. I remember that commercial with the homeless dude, for sure.
- blast_flame, on 01/08/2008, -5/+1I must be a desensitized bastard because they didn't really strike me as very shocking.

- tre11is, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3These are reminiscent of the anti-drinking and driving commercials from years ago. I agree they're shocking, but they're effective. If this campaign saves lives was it worth you being uncomfortable?
- invisiblehat, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2Those are hilarious. Canadian TV is much more sane.
I would much rather have my child see some titties on TV, then see someone getting their head smashed in.- mhender, on 01/09/2008, -1/+1I didn't know you got cable in your trailer.
- BearinG, on 02/01/2008, -0/+1Well you'll see both here.. then when they are on.. you can tell your child not to watch the head smashed in, and call your kid over when the ***** are on..
Isn't it nice how much control you can have on your child's watching habits?
- glockops, on 01/08/2008, -2/+2Holy Crap... I jumped for that last one...
I agree, these shouldn't really be on TV - a little to graphic (At least the chef one - geez... going into her life story.... )
But man, do they get the point across. Great filming quality, simple and effective.
Wow. - schmalzbauer, on 01/08/2008, -1/+8I live in Canada, and at my old job they were actually shown at one of the safety meetings at my old job. They did the job and since then that company has spent a fair bit more money in the Health & Safety department. Sure, they're graphic, but ***** like that aren't sugarcoated in real life! To get the message across, you have to be as real as possible, and this kinda takes the cake. Everything happens for a reason, good or bad.
- wing05, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2Whoever dugg schmalzbauer down, I hope you're at least consistent in thinking that the majority of film and tv coming out of hollywood is also too graphic.
- x0epyon0x, on 01/08/2008, -0/+5In high school, we used to beg our metals teacher to show us this safety video, which was (of course) shown on an old film reel projector. It's the most brilliant PSA ever committed to celluloid. http://www.archive.org/details/ShakeHan1970
