"Whoever" is the subjective pronoun while "whomever" is the objective pronoun. In this case, the person that selected Palin is the subject of the sentence, therefore it should be "whoever." (Couldn't this have been avoided by simply saying "McCain"?) (see comment)

I have often thought the same thing, though I wonder if any of it could be shown live on TV. HD video requires a lot of bandwidth, and data transmission over 250,000 miles is not going to be very speedy. (see comment)
