he throught the market could regulate interest rates even WHILE the Fed was depressing them, which by definition would be impossible. Why borrow from the market when they are guaranteed a 1% annual rate through the federal funds overnight rate? (see comment)

dow is just a measure of expected future profits...while it may reflect mood of the economy, it doesn't measure the economy in any real way. The economy is still 50%+ or so bigger than it was in 2000 (in nominal terms as the Dow is also a nominal value a … (see comment)

that's not true at all, it is 809 at the beginning of 1970 with today's 7552 value, that is a 6.05% average growth rate. 809*(1.0605)^38 is approximately 7552 (see comment)
