Boston bomb scare suspects hold press conference...its a total must see!
cbs4boston.com — The two suspects that were held on charges connected with the Boston bomb scare held a press conference earlier..this video is ridiculous! "Ok, guys, seriously, i want to talk about haircuts in the 70's. Does anybody have any questions about haircuts in the 70's?" im sorry sir your question did not have to do with hair."

That's not a hair question.- elebrio, on 10/12/2007, -133/+17They tried to be funny... but they just sounded goofy.
- AWBoy666, on 10/12/2007, -6/+168This was great......lol.
The whole situation shows just how stupid and paranoid us Americans are. They are just sticking to their guns. - DCJoeDog, on 10/12/2007, -5/+256Basically they didn't fall into the media trap of making them out ot look like bad guys when in fact they aren't, so they took the initative and began speaking of haircuts from the 60's and 70's
Awesome, and took major balls - OMGWTFROFLMAO, on 10/12/2007, -8/+74Their moon technology is so advanced beyond the understanding of earthlings that they are forced to discuss hair cuts of the 70's.
The moon has 1/3 the amount of gravity of the earth allowing them to jump 3 times as high. Can our primitive earth computers do that? - NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -4/+136I watched this live on Fox... couldn't stop laughing... they handled that press conference Perfectly! XD And its even funnier that the press doesn't know how to react... all they can do is insult the guys...XD
I still think its rediculious that the City of Boston is blaming their own stupidity on these guys... XD its Bostons fault for spending money on the bomb squads, its not these 2 guy's fault boston is stupid... when there was clearly no bomb... and this wasn't anything close to a bomb hoax... this was just an silly advertizing plot. And these 2 guys should not be responsible or anything... Although, maybe Cartoon Network should be fined for not telling the cities that they planned this... XD
Boston clearly overreacted... basically "oh noes! a neon sight must be a bomb!" good god... XD I hope the City gets nothing from anyone for their stupidity. - BigErnMcCracken, on 10/12/2007, -75/+3From the looks of the video it sure seems that this was the whole point of this ad campaign. I mean honestly, how is putting up some light signs going to draw in an audience? I bet that these guys had a plan all along that these signs would be mistaken for bombs and everyone would hear about it. I wouldn't be surprised if they called in the bomb scare themselves.
- davidsmero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+42I need to know what kind of shampoo they use.
- voldak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+86Funny or not, these guys did have some balls for doing this. I actually enjoyed watching it (although i didn't find it too funny). I appreciate that they are taking the issue extremely lightly. I'm sick of hearing of bomb scares, etc, etc. This was a pleasure. I think we take some things too far and these guys did a great job of trying to make a joke out of the whole situation instead of being up-in-arms about it.
- TheBarge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33I think the best was at the very end where the journalist asked the guy with the dreads whether he washes his hair. Haha, "What do you call regularly?" "Once every few weeks." "Oh yeah, thats what we needed thanks"
- xtmno3, on 10/12/2007, -37/+8Comment Abuse:
Anyone else notice the man to man hugs at the start? (complete with the patting on the back) - NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+45@BigErnMcCracken, This was never intended to cause this kind of reaction, although the prosecution would love you for thinking that... it was nothing more than a simple ad campain... Just like putting stickers on the street... This was just done mearly with LED lights/ similar to Neon Signs... I'll say once again, the City grossly overreacted, and its their own dam fault, no one elses...
- MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+172Seriously.. this whole thing is a joke. The felony charges are a joke. The Boston police and local government are a joke. Homeland Security is a joke.
We live in a country now where anything not immediately recognizable, with a battery and wires, is treated as a potential bomb. Furthermore, the police get to name anything they want a "hoax bomb device", and charge you with a felony, in order to cover their own asses after staging a giant fear mongering show. All of this because the modern equivalent of Lite-Brite boxes, no more than digital signs or grafitti, were found around the city.
I hope everyone sees how ridiculous the Boston local government's reaction was to this event, and how ludicrous it is to charge these guys with anything more than littering. The charges are misdirection, and the media has been along for the ride, hyping up the story the entire time.
This is more than an embarrassment to the city of Boston, it''s an embarrassment to our entire country. The terrorists (if there really are any) must be laughing their asses off about this one. When we are living like this, they have already won. - Nytemare, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21XT, I noticed the man hug.
Proper timing, patting, and slipping away. No lingering touching. - postal21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+59dont forget. they put these all over the place in different cities... and no other cities reported bomb scares...
- ProximaC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+79The funny part is the media saying they're not helping generate sympathy among the press and public by their behavior....
The truth is I am MUCH more sympathetic to them after laughing my ass off. Great stuff.
Their lawyer told them NOT to talk about the case, what do the media expect? - Historian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+36From CNN"
"In a news conference, Rich told reporters he had advised his clients not to discuss the incident. Stevens and Berdovsky took the podium and said they were taking questions only about haircuts in the 1970s.
When a reporter accused them of not taking the situation seriously, Stevens responded, "We're taking it very seriously." Asked another question about the case, Stevens reiterated they were answering questions only about hair and accused the reporter of not taking him and Berdovsky seriously.
Reporters did not relent and as they continued, Berdovsky disregarded their queries, saying, "That's not a hair question. I'm sorry."" - whatsupmtv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+53I agree with Niko. Why out of the 10 citys was Boston the only one that thought these were "BOMBS"?
- Murfshay22, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2haha! It reminded me of the press conference with T.O. and his agent when they kept saying "That's not a hair question"... Next Question..... Next Question... Next Question!
- gardnert1, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8I really think they could have come up with a better topic of discussion than 70's hair styles; though that was a pretty good topic considering their situation. It seems like they just made that up on the spot or something.
I would have tried to completely flip the whole situation and ask the reporters about what it's like to be reporting on the incident reporting in general.
With the exception of that "Hair today, gone tomorrow" line, it was pretty entertaining though. - maxx77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24The fact that a whole city reacted (2 weeks after the devices were planted) in the most extreme, post 9/11, paranoid way possible, and then blamed their irrationality on any scapegoat they could find without admitting that they did anything wrong... the fact that it is totally ridiculous that anyone would mistake what looks like a Light Brite for a bomb, a "bomb" that's not blown up for two weeks... the fact that there is no way a jury will ever convict these guys or Adult Swim of a felony... these guys did absolutely the right thing by turning the press conference into a total mockery. What do they have to fear? They did nothing wrong whatsoever. The only thing they could legally be convicted of is littering. Some of these things were placed on public property from what I've read. If these things really did look like bombs, if they had made bomb threats to anyone, or if they had admitted to trying to make bomb-like devices, then yes, they'd be found guilty. None of that is true though. Rock on, my long haired brothers, rock, *****, on.
This is a GREAT promotion for the ATHF movie. This ***** is on CNN's homepage. Ted Turner needs to be paying all of the idiotic legal fees these guys are gonna get stuck with, and then some. - jesterselv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Hilarious. It really did take balls to do this press conference. Im glad to see someone sticking it to the media. always running around finding the next story, hyping up events, using scare tactics to make us all obey, and now picking on kids that just want us to really figure out why poofy hair came out of the seventies. Seriously, I mean, what does the media expect, they arent allowed to talk about the case, either they talk about hair, or say they cant talk. The media is just pissed cause they didnt get what they were looking for.
- Throlkim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+47It would appear that the City of Boston website is now dead. And just as I was about to send them an email too. Anyway, in case anyone cares, here's what I was about to send:
Your willingness to allow the prosecution of two men due to the stupidity of your citizens and police department is a complete and utter mockery of justice. A few wires, LEDs, and batteries do not constitute a bomb, and whoever reported these 'hoaxes' (which is the incorrect term, as there was no attempt at shenanigans) should be the ones being charged.
These men have international support now, due to the fact that they are the victims here. They were hired to perform a viral marketing campaign, and only your city seems to have had an objection to it. I'm British and we would not stand for such pathetic attempts to cover up the city's failings.
They have handled themselves bravely in front of the media, and poked fun at this whole situation, as it is indeed all a complete farce. Your politicians and officials have only served to make your city appear foolish.
I, and many others, stand by these men. Do not send good men to prison for the foolishness of your council. - brundlefly76, on 10/12/2007, -16/+14The press handled it well - their job isn't to haul all their ***** down to the courthouse in 20 degree weather just so these guys can have open mike night. Their job is to collect information for the public by asking these guys for their side of the story, so to aggressively prod these guys for relevant information was appropriate - thats they're job.
At the same time, these guys wanna have an open mike night, thats fine too, they are under no obligation. - chemicalrxn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@bigernmccracken
It would be a stretch to say that they planned out that the signs would be mistaken for bombs. However, now that they have national media attention, wouldn't you take advantage of the situation? It might cost a load in court fees but this could spiral into a very effective ad campaign. Lemons into lemonade, if you will. - lonelycanuck, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7they are my new gods

You honestly said some very important things that people just don't seem to understand. I hope you don't mind if I reiterate that these guys should not be prosecuted for the paranoia of incompetant ***** (I mean what serious bomber dresses up a ***** bomb in lights that attract attention. Isn't the goal to kill people?), and that giving into this kind of paranoia is giving into the VERY GOAL OF TERRORISTS, which is to ***** keep you in fear.

- Technopundit, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Yeh, real funny. Except they are thumbing their noses at some really, really PO'd people (though I'm not one of them.
Their defiance could have been much better aimed at some social problem or other, rather than promoting some cartoon show.
Judges watch television, too. Next, these guys might be seriouslt discussing hair styles commony assigned to jail inmates. - CanceledCzech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8These two are local heroes among us who aren't completely incompetent. The guy with dreadlocks graduated from my high school.
- Humptydank, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11
Hilarious yes, but the serious story here is that Turner Broadcasting did not step up and pay for their legal defense. That has to be the most contemptable move I've heard of in a long time. Benefit from the biggest publicity stunt in years, and then hang them out to dry.
It makes me not want to watch ATHF just to deprive them of the ratings.
Bastards. - Screwy1138, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I just realized...... the advertisement must have massively beaten adult swim's expectations for visibility.

Disrespectful? What's disrespectful about this?
Couldn't you say the reporters were being disrespectful by repeatedly bringing up the case despite the two men saying they will not and can not answer questions about the case?
Certainly you weren't talking about the two men being disrespectful.. - lovek, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5@DeezNutz420

- b-dizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"their disrespectful behavor", huh? Who do they have to respect? The press? The reporters there deserve no more respect than any other person. They didn't say anything inappropriate. They didn't say anything offensive. So the great crime here is that they did what their lawyer told them to do and didn't talk about the case? I for one would much rather watch them talk about 70s haircuts than just say "No comment, next question" to every question.
- CptPlanet39, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@deez
you disrespect people who align themselves to the right. I will admit that i am a republican but i do not find the way these two men acted disrespectful. they did something that people should not have freaked out over, and when their lawyer, who is trying to protect their freedom, tells them not to talk about it, what would you do. Also you talk about lefts thinking they are respectful, but not following that, i dont care if they are or not, you yourself need to be respectful by not calling lefts out and saying they deserve what they get just because of their political orintation. - Technopundit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1They're not idiots, They are intelligent and imaginative. "does that mean I need to get the bomb squad to come check out my wall clock?"
Well, according to their logic, yes. I mean a ticking device mounted on a wall with batteries!?! What else could it be but a bomb.
I have to admit I would be half tempted to call the bomb squad about a wall clock giving the above description, purely as a social statement, but I just don't have the funds for the inevitable legal defense that I will require. But if that is the police's new description of a bomb, we better be good citizens and report all of them...

- xcoastie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15What kind of freaking tool would think the LEDs were terrorist bombs? I wish I was there to see the city shut down.
- Avalontor, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12actually what terrorist now know is to create a replica of these "toys" to put their sinister chemical weapons inside. smart. we just blew away years of report anything suspicious to "Of course it's safe, it's just a kids toy"

- DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19And it's better to be laughed at than blown up. However, sometimes people need to laugh at themselves when they're made a fool of instead of pressing charges to look important.
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11"And it's better to be laughed at than blown up"
On the contrary. A life where you're constantly paralyzed by irrational fear is no life at all.
The only way to defeat terrorism is to live your life free of fear. I'm no more afraid to step out my door today than I was on September 10th, 2001. Neither should you be. - noreturn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2When you constantly fear death from the most trivial of things, the terrorists have reached their goal. Think about why they're even called "terror-ists" for a minute; because they aim to keep people in terror.
- DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But, it is better to be laughed at than to be blown up. Meaning, this wasn't a serious threat nor were there any injuries so these Boston officials need to stop acting like someone died and loosen up.

hoax (hōks)
n.
1. An act intended to deceive or trick.
2. Something that has been established or accepted by fraudulent means.
The authorities may be fools for thinking a lite-brite is a bomb, but they were not fooled by these two men. The object was clearly a sign.
The city officials were the hoaxers for fooling us into thinking this was a bomb!- Desolite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+68trying to explain why stupid people are stupid to stupid people is stupid, don't even bother.
- troub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16"The authorities never thought it was a bomb, they responded to a call concerning suspicious devices."
Oh, that explains why the bomb squad was blowing some of them up, then. - theARM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7THANK YOU.
That's what I've been saying. It's terribly irresponsible for the news agencies to CONTINUE to headline this as a HOAX.
Lies in headlines are propaganda, and that increases the level of fear. These news agencies are in collusion with terrorists when they misreport things.
Rather than shifting blame to the advertisers by calling it a hoax, the Mayor and reporters, should have spun things positively. Yes, it was a mistake, but the speed and extent of response should explain their dedication to public safety... - greedonever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So If I have a bunch of viruses or nerve gas or poison or something, but no device to get it into the air, I should leave it in Boston, in a garbage bag with an LED on top and they will blow it up for me and dispense it into the atmosphere free of charge. Or hose it down to get it into the water system. Good to know Thanks.

or there will be marches on Boston and anyone who agrees with them - citizen782, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Unfortunately they may go to jail once all the God fearing, "vote for Jesus", "damn Islam" Neocons get hold of 'em. Remember we have to be hard on terrorists or hippies like these will all rape our daughters. Full coverage on Fox tonight for all those who agree. If you don't agree then go hate America somewhere else.
- NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22If they go to Jail, I'll consider this a horrible failure of the justice system... -_- And a failure the officials of these Cities... -_-

You guys are ***** ridiculous. - steve693, on 10/12/2007, -0/+34This whole situation is an embarrassment to the city of Boston.
- Sundownvf111, on 10/12/2007, -13/+9I thought Bostonians in general were complete embarrassments to society...
- VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah, I thought Boston was a young, hip, liberal place.
- ObSoLeTe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11i like ducktail haircuts personally
- Hetman, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2This keeps getting worst and worst. I wish they would stop making those truth comercials. Seriously if they want to put someone in jail for a hoax why dont they put the truth.com people in jail. They are always doing something stupid about cigarette smoking. Hey guys we get cigarettes are bad.
- jaredvolkl, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I believe you meant "worse and worse"
- letdowntourist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Truth campaigns are paid for by the cigarette companies. The people working there might get startled at first but then realize, oh that's just our ad agency. Strange, but true.
- monkeyrun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Isn't it sad that people are trained to be scared of anything they don't know?
It reminds me of this.

The rest of the world is laughing at us right now.- simmonsdd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Yes. We are.
- molochi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you can laugh as well, then we're laughing with you. Mind you I live in a "target city", Atlanta, and we had cops scouring the city for Err AFTER they knew their was no danger. I guess it was the middle finger, that's illegal here I'm sure. But anyways, I empathize.
- Dustin00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17The case is pending, so the media is shocked to find out they're not allowed to talk about it.
Brilliant reporters. - Nickerz, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6***** ROCK AND ROLL! THESE GUYS ARE GODS!
- JordanM85, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33These guys are my new heroes. Also, how is it a hoax or prank when they never even intended it to be a fake bomb.....?
- gruggach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Exactly. Hoax and prank are completely incorrect terms to use in describing this absurdity. There was no intent to deceive. More than that, there was no way a sane person could have been deceived.
Something must be wrong with the water in Boston. ;) - RandomHugs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, it's not their fault the Boston media and PD are out of touch.
- Poco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's all the tea.

- jmurrayufo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I don't think the reports knew how to deal with a real life subject that they couldn't make into some story about the world coming to an end.
- timmayk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4brilliant. because of this, they're sure to be stars!
- n0s109, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18"Hair today, Gone tomorrow."
- blankman, on 10/12/2007, -18/+3They're idiots. Why wouldn't they take the opportunity to tell the public how ridiculous it was for everyone to react the way they did when they found objects that are obviously not bombs, as you can only see batteries and LEDs. Why should they have been arrested just because they left a bunch of signs around. It's not their fault that everyone overreacts and thinks they're bombs. It was not their intent to make people think they were bombs either.
Instead they take the opportunity to act like morons, doing nothing to help them clear themselves. What should they have done label the signs "this is not a bomb"?- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Nothing to help clear themselves? This is the press we're talking about, who are doing everything they can to make these people guilty before proven so (like they do with every case). You must know by now that anything said to the media will inevitably be used against you by said media. Now what have the media got? "Oh they... umm, made hair jokes". Not much to work with...
- murphykp, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Their reaction to the whole situation is what is communicating how ridiculous they think it is. The way they have reacted fails to stroke anyone's ego and communicates their refusal to assume any responsibility.
The more seriously they respond, the more they legitimize the city's complaint. - robunck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Instead they take the opportunity to act like morons, doing nothing to help them clear themselves."
They have no responsiblity to "clear themselves." It's up to the prosecutors to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that they did something illegal. Usually as soon as someone starts trying to clear themselves, it's because they are guilty and are trying to hide it. These guys aren't guilty of anything and it's not their responsibility to show anyone how ridiculous the situation is. What happened to common sense (of the cops, the city, the press?) - LCount, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well when you think about it, them being so overly ridiculous at the hearing is practically showing how ridiculous the Gov't of Boston was.
...Plus when the Prosecutor describes a bomb as something with a power source and wires, they're pretty much in the clear
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I don't get it... These guys, as far as we know, didn't intend to have people believe it was a bomb. They did some unconventional marketing by placing some flashing LED's around the city, which *other people* incorrectly panicked about and assumed was a bomb. How's that the fault of these guys? Surely anything could be mistaken for a bomb, in which case shouldn't everyone be tried along with these people? What charge has been put on them?
If they had intended to cause hysteria, that's another matter entirely, but otherwise, it's not their fault that everyones ridiculously hypersensitive.- ObSoLeTe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6their lawyer advised them not to speak?
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19They had them in several markets, but only Boston went ***** Red Alert on them - S.F. is only now taking them down, partly because the batteries ran down :p
- solidhubris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Dugg you up for "***** Red Alert," which I will incorporate into conversation, casual or formal, any chance I get for the foreseeable future.
- flamedog40, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0LONG LIVE LANDER!!!!!
Did anyone else realized Burdovsky's shirt was from the Lander Bar!!! that's awesome. - Embrace, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Well it sucks that they are most likely going to go to prison for awhile.
And this whole thing is BS!
"OH NO LEDS AND BATTERYS!!! Lets be paranoid and think its a bomb"
"ok"
Sad sad, paranoid people . - whoitis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4hilarious...exactly what they should have done.
- offspring06, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8That was the funniest press conference I've seen. I guess they did their job promoting the show though. I've never heard of that cartoon until recently.
- iruel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6this whole "incident" is so ***** ridiculous. its making me angry how stupid this is.
- sideshowRAHEEM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32You gotta love the city of Boston they let those 9/11 hijackers right through Logan Airport but they arrest the Light Bright guys, I feel safer already.
- erikt311, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2If you think Boston has forgotten about where those planes came from that took down the towers, you are mistaken. I think that is directly part of the reason the city reacted the way it did, in fact.
- trry96, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Good for them! Screw the media and their stupid questions.
- jlebrech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What the hell, they stuck the equivalent of fly posters!!! but electrical and shiny.
They should be charged for fly posting at the MOST!!!!!
The guy on the left looks a lot like Steve Jobs by the way.- elebrio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I was wondering how long it would take for Steve Jobs to be mentioned.
- TheToecutter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+40They're making a mockery of the media and fear hype in this country. Well done!
- KChambers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5No way these guys go to prison, the facts will come out in a criminal case and they will be acquitted... if it even goes that far.
- pepsiguy94, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5There are pages upon pages of websites that tell you how to make "throwies" LED's powered by a small cell battery and a magnet. They use them everywhere, just someone came up with a humerus design and they are now terrorists? Boston over reacted. They are the ones who should look stupid. The two made some dumb remarks, but thats the way they are. You and myself would have acted differently but to them its no big deal, they did nothing wrong. If they want to charge them with defacing public property then they have a case. Otherwise they should be in the clear.
http://www.makezine.com/blog/archive/2006/02/how_to_make_led_throwies.html - gruggach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18These guys are awesome. They responded exactly as they should have. In effect, they're commenting on the absurdity of the whole situation. Why answer inane questions with anything but inane answers?
These guys are going to have ad contracts up the wazoo in no time. - stardeo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17What's really great about the video is that these are the "stay on topic" tactics used by politicians, pundits, and even corporate press events to side step having to talk about anything meaningful. The tact the two suspects used really reveals how a media will beg for answers from the President, the President's press secretary, and a CEO of a corporation (and wouldn't treat them will such annoyance) when they try to stay on topic. Yet, some of the media individuals get very mad (you can hear one person from the media asking the lawyer how he feels that the two are not generating much sympathy with the press and the public) when these two use the same approach. That's not to say every question at every press conference needs a response...but the "performance art" of that event reveals something about some media outlets.
- 700c26, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They may have not been generating sympathy with the press, but they sure as hell were generating ratings. The reporters should be happy; they wouldn't have had any material if they had said 'no comment' instead.
- Isuro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I... would really like a downloadable version of this. Reeeeeally.
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I like it at the end when the press get bored of them. They held themselves well, unlike their lawyer who was probably thinking something along the lines of "...I'm not getting paid enough for this".
- miked123, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Boston needs to sit down and shut the ***** up. Let these poor guys go.
