Breaking: Feds Seize Rocket Launcher In N.J.

wcbstv.com — Sources tell CBS 2 ’s Scott Weinberger that it’s the kind of missile that can take down an aircraft and the area where the launcher was discovered is in or very near a flight path for Newark Liberty International Airport.

Similarly it is perfectly legal to own a machine gun, or even a tank. The licensing is *very* invasive and the licensing costs are astronomical, so, the only legal civilian owners of these devices are the wealthy.

      You can look on youtube for videos of the various shoots held each year for those folk who own such devices.

      There is no way to tell from the story if it contained a "live" round or was simply the casing and had already been fired. If the latter, it is scrap metal, nothing more.

It's an AT-4. An anti-tank weapon. No guidance. You'd have to be pretty damn good shot to shoot down a plane in flight. A SAM missile is used to shoot down planes not an AT-4.

    Terrorists are mean, not ***** brain dead. If they were gonna use said rocket launcher, you would imagine they'd shoot it from a more secluded area. At the very least, hide in a ***** tree.
    If terrorists were really this stupid, we would have won the War in Iraq, dragged Osama through the streets, and opened Disneyland Iran by now.

      i was actually thinking about buying one when i got out of the Marines (as a conversational piece for my living room haha), but i didnt have anymore room in my car on the ride back home.

      It's pretty obvious that the AT-4 was just a hollow shell (since it was already used), and posed no threat.
      Why did it get left in the open? Why on her front lawn? (Especially since she has a "non-standard" ethnicity and "unusual" name)
      It is possible that it was left as a prank. It is possible that someone stole it and then, realizing it was just junk, threw it out of their car randomly.
      It is also possible that it is a probe of the response system.
      I don't know, but, we do have to take it seriously for now.

Get any kind of de-commisioned military hardware such as Partriot missiles, AT-4 launcher, ATHF LED signs, and put them in odd places like Boston, junk yards(although less odd for junk to actually be), people's yards, and intersections(my personal favorite).

    U.S. Army ordinance experts are now trying to track down the serial numbers on the device to determine its origin.

    According to the FBI, the launcher was the empty holder for an AT-4 anti-tank weapon - a one-shot rocket-propelled projectile used by the infantry to destroy or disable armored vehicles. The launcher is discarded after use.

    FBI spokesman Sean Quinn said the launcher found by a homeowner in front of her house was essentially an empty tube.

    "There was no threat," he said.
