- ironeus, on 08/01/2008, -1/+8I should have cropped lentils and flaxseed!
- Tangaroa, on 06/30/2008, -3/+3I feel sorry for anyone in the tangerine business. It's one of the few crops that dropped in value, and it went down by 65%. Oranges also lost more than a third of their value. There must be a citrus bumper crop.
- Joshuarr, on 06/30/2008, -1/+19Bacon is going down.. the world seems fine to me.
- 360news, on 06/30/2008, -2/+5Wow - Im hurting here. It's getting so that my income cannot support my healthy lifestyle !
- eatkitten, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4It's time to make the switch to bacon. It's down .68%.
- StealthMonkey, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Make you can drink some of those tears for nourishment.
- TomK88, on 06/30/2008, -6/+2Commodities are going to continue to increase in price as more of the world makes the transition from poor to middle-class. Instead of complaining about it, make investments in commodities if you believe they will continue to increase.
- chicofaraby, on 06/30/2008, -3/+5"Instead of complaining about it, make investments in commodities if you believe they will continue to increase."
Hilarious. The right wing's solution; give your food money to corporations. Your kids will thank you for making them go hungry. Assuming they survive.- TomK88, on 06/30/2008, -5/+1If you are in the lowest income bracket, that may be the case. But guess what? You're not.
And you're not "giving your food money to corporations". You're investing. If commodity prices go up, you get your money back and more. That means more food for you and your kids.
But hey, I wouldn't expect you to understand that there are solutions to problems other than complaining and sitting on your hindparts, waiting for somebody else to fix the problem.

- Zippo, on 06/30/2008, -1/+9Real, healthy food is going to continue to rise in price...
Meanwhile, processed and fake food will still be cheap to make...
Yeah, we're pretty much *****. - snea, on 06/30/2008, -8/+3Hey at least cucumbers went down. They make excellent dildos you know.
- mordea, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4What about bacon?
- eatkitten, on 06/30/2008, -1/+2Bacon as a dildo? That's just ridiculous.
- Joshuarr, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1But a cucumber wrapped in bacon... that's magical.
- CryRightardCry, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Does that make them illegal in Alabama?
- IllBeBack, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Yes, yes it does. But it is only illegal when being used as a dildo. Otherwise, it's fine.
- mordea, on 06/30/2008, -0/+4What about bacon?
- HeatherH88, on 06/30/2008, -1/+4And lemons are still free with water! Awesome.
- IllBeBack, on 07/01/2008, -1/+1All joking aside, nothing at a restaurant is free. The cost of every single thing is factored into the things you actually pay for.
- screenwalker, on 06/30/2008, -2/+3If you're interested into UK / European figures the Daily mail and other UK newspapers have just recently published true inflation for the same period for basic consumer goods - what Mr & Ms. Jones have to spend for a living - to be up about 15%.
The government of course still publishes CPI figures in the range of 3.5%.
These figures become even more interesting when you look at a longer term period (2000-2006)
(for France): Bread +86%, Potatoes +1780%, Coffee +64%, Milk +183%, Heating oil +72% - and these figures don't include the even bigger rise over the last two years.
During the same period income of lower / middle class have at best stagnated - no wonder more and more people don't know how to feed their families anymore.
And the queues at the soup kitchens for the poor are getting longer and longer. - AnotherDiggGuy, on 06/30/2008, -5/+3Thank god cucumbers are down 40%
- mordea, on 06/30/2008, -0/+3I'm starting a new diet fad consisting of just cucumbers, bacon, oranges, and tangerines. I call it the South Beach Cucumbacorangerine Diet. It'll save you money and calories!
- edstate, on 06/30/2008, -2/+4Yay subsidies, price controls and Government interference!
- dupswapdrop, on 06/30/2008, -3/+1Yes this is all tied to the price of oil!
- moracity, on 06/30/2008, -2/+1So...what's the point? The price of some foods have gone up an some have gone down. That's life in the real world. The page conviently left out a link to his direct sources. The cititations are lacking specificity. Some of it is clearly affected by corn prices. The ethanol bandwagon is driving up the price of corn, which is used in nearly everything - not mention feeding all those chickens and cows. Hello expensive eggs, butter, and milk.
Some prices may be affected by fuel costs. Retail prices vary so greatly that those numbers are useless. If you buy local food and meat, you'll be paying less towards transportation costs and more toward quality and supporting your local economy. I suggest looking into a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program in your area. It's fun, organic, and it just tastes better. For 20 bucks a week, we get a bounty of locally grown procduce. We don't know what we get until the day before, but that's the fun part. - ssn697, on 06/30/2008, -1/+1Chicken feed has nearly reached the price where I am going to clear most of my chicken out. My hold up is the thought of eating bland store bought eggs (YUCK!).
On the bright side, I eat a LOT of broccoli and asparagus... - Ninh, on 06/30/2008, -1/+1All those damn vegetarians are driving the third world hungry :D
- PoopStick, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Minimum wage hike along with rising fuel cost... Wait till the Dems have the full effect running and we can revisit this graph.
- ScienceDoc, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1The is Compassionate Conservatism in action. They smile as you suffer.
- OtterStratton, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1It seems to me that once the increased price of crops affect those buying feed for their cattle, meat will reflect their huge increase in price.
Doesn't that make sense? If it does, man does that suck. - titan151, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2Missing price of beer...
- failedpimp, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2Awesome, this list compares apples and oranges.
- stlcadet11, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Who gets pears and peaches by the ton!?
- oriqin, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1looks like it's getting more expensive for life to give you lemons..
