We were there on a trip with Rotary International and were doing medical camps in rural areas and even men in those areas made moves on her. One Massai Warrior offered me several cows for her, I'm not saying that as a joke.

      The point I would like to make though is that she resisted their come ons. These older women are saying, "How is it different from and older man taking out a younger woman?"

      It is MUCH different. If the older man is taking out a younger woman in Kenya it is the same. However in non impoverished countries when you take someone out and buy all of their things it is nice but not the same. When you do this in a country such as Kenya you are basically saying, "I'll use you for a week and pay your expenses." If the women fall in love, fine. But if they are just using young men for sex, that is indescribably disgusting and cruel. Why don't you not buy them all kinds of nice things and take a nice vacation there and instead send some money and make sure that them and their families get food for a year?

      Odds are if Grandma is in the "know" enough to travel to a foreign country, to have sex with young able bodied men, I can confidently assume that most of them are using protection. If they are making regular visits and talking about it with friends,it'd be silly to assume that they are unaware of the AIDS epidemic.

      Not to mention has anyone been to any of the African countries with high HIV or AIDS cases? There is constant advertising, information services, testing services etc to be found. You can't walk a minute in a major city hub and NOT see awareness posters and the like. These countries KNOW they have an epidemic at hand, and most are doing the best they can to halt the spread.

      That being said, I suspect that the social stigma that would be attached to men engaging in that kind of activity would be significantly higher than it seems to be for these women. While the stigma surrounding prostitution seems to be lifing somewhat, I try to imagine a man saying "just full of hot young girls who like us older guys." without getting negative reactions, and I can't do it.

    Albeit I doubt they care, since the chances of contracting HIV from a single experience, even when unprotected, is very low. And the fact that most of these women are old enough that it won't have much of an effect on life span anyways
