Few Details in Bloody Miami Student Murder
abcnews.go.com — Edward "Eddie" Pieron was born on the Fourth of July and relished in many of the freedoms befitting a sociable college student living in South Florida. That included a 21st birthday bash Friday night at the three-bedroom rental home in South Maimi, Fla., ending in his mysterious and very bloody death.

- morningmatters, on 07/09/2008, -9/+4I was in South Beach Miami for the 4th of july weekend. There are not too many places where you can find ultra rich living large and partying right next to ghettos only a few blocks away. I stayed on Ocean Drive but I did not feel comfortable walking pass more than 5 blocks outside of the tourist traps. The beach though was great and If I had the money I would love to live on Star Island.
- canewediggit, on 07/09/2008, -1/+4i live on south beach- there are no ghettos "a few blocks away." if you want to see a ghetto, cross 395 and follow the signs to "historic overtown." 5 blocks away from ocean drive is pricier real estate per square foot than almost everywhere in the country not named nyc or san fran.
- CiXeL, on 07/10/2008, -2/+4except for that homeless guy on south beach who was shot in the head in front of all the tourists a few months ago or the body parts theyve had wash up on the beach with people around.
you regularly see stuff like 'children find human toe on south beach' in the herald.
a coworker of mine's kids came across a chicken sacrifice playing at tropical park. sick.
miami beach is and was an island of sanity compared to mainland ghetto miami but as the older jewish population dies off it is being infiltrated by the same latino culture of corruption and crime.
i never, ever, thought that by moving here i would see so many terrible aspects to latino society that i would condemn my heritage.

- raytibbitts, on 07/10/2008, -2/+3You do NOT have to be rich to party in South Beach, just shallow.
There are no ghettos in South Beach.- CiXeL, on 07/10/2008, -3/+2yes you do have to be rich. this is why my girlfriend and i have never gone clubbing in south beach.
and yes you have to be shallow as well which is the second reason we havent gone.
other than the natural beauty, theres nothing worth living here for that you couldnt get anywhere else.
im here because i grow tropical plants but if i could do that back in los angeles id move in a heartbeat so i could avoid the recent immigrant drivers without licenses or license plates who are learning to drive ON THE ROAD and all the creepy santeria crap in south dade. see this for an example
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/miami_dade/story/5 ... - polkaishot, on 07/10/2008, -1/+4isn't every club overpriced?
anyway... most people who are actually from miami don't even go clubbing in south beach.
- CiXeL, on 07/10/2008, -3/+2yes you do have to be rich. this is why my girlfriend and i have never gone clubbing in south beach.
- polkaishot, on 07/10/2008, -1/+3haha, i'm from miami... the only ghettos are really carol city... maybe hialeah and maybe little havana, but even then, they're no where near as bad as say.... dorchester in boston... well, maybe carol city and you definitely don't want to be anywhere near downtown miami past 6pm =/
- CiXeL, on 07/10/2008, -1/+1the quantity of homeless in downtown miami are like an army of the undead. you literally see people starving in the streets. i havent seen anything like it anywhere else.

What a sad and bizarre story.- CiXeL, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2crimes never get solved in miami. dont expect them to ever figure it out.
criminals flock to this area because crime is rampant and cops dont give a crap.
i regularly watch police disregard all traffic laws and run red lights constantly. they never obey speed limits, swerve dangerously around cars etc.
you have the closest thing to anarchy here.

- salazarmark, on 07/10/2008, -1/+1Bizarre.
- avanor, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2I hope the conclusion to this story is submitted soon, reading "***** who killed this kid died horribly and no one gave a *****"
Keep a lookout for it. - escapedspecimen, on 07/10/2008, -3/+2"crazy hot sex"...

- coolxal, on 07/10/2008, -1/+1Clearly the murderer played GTA4.
- CiXeL, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2there was a story in the herald last year where a guy drove a stolen car into a gas station in miami beach at high speed and he must have been on something because he hit the pumps causing one of them to explode and then stealing a motorcycle from a person at the scene and driving off.
i am not joking about this at all. i had to forward it to all my GTA playing brothers and friends.- redxii, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1Games don't drive cars into gas pumps, people drive cars into gas pumps.

- CiXeL, on 07/10/2008, -1/+1nope clubs were affordable in southern california.
- polkaishot, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1dude so uhh where in miami do you live exactly?
cuz i grew up in kendall and never had to worry up anything? and my parents recently moved a bit past the zoo and still nothing to worry about?
perhaps i'm just young and naive but uh really.. the only places to worry about are downtown miami after dark, carol city, certain areas near miami beach can be pretty sketchy, if you're a xenophobe then little havana, and perhaps hialeah.
but otherwise... miami's got about as much crimes as any other big city does.- CiXeL, on 07/14/2008, -0/+1if you grew up in miami or migrated here you cannot see the difference.
you have to live in another part of the country to recognize what america is.

- karaokekidd, on 07/10/2008, -1/+2Damn. How can a society accept so much violent crime? North east asian countries are very safe compared to western countries. Police are too incompetent here.
- captric, on 07/10/2008, -1/+1What would make you think that society "accepts" so much violent crime? One of the freedoms this kid had was the right to protect himself from violent crime by owning a firearm and using it in the event of violence against him. In Florida you can even carry it where ever you go. So I have to ask myself what was in this guys mind, living in the violent city of South Beach Miami, populated with illegal and violent criminals from all over the Caribbean, and not have the good sense to be armed. He probaly believed, as most Diggers probably do, that guns are icky and besides, I have a cell phone, I can always dial 911. Laughable.
- karaokekidd, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1It's a shame of you to jump to conclusions. This has nothing to do with gun ownership from my perspective. Police should be able to end whole environments of criminals by deep investigations, heavy manpower, sweeping arrests etc. There should be no criminal dens whereby violent crime may spring forth. If an area of the city is completely out of control, bring in military until it is controlled and the community returns to health. These criminals aren't starving to death, they are drug fiends, or simply want to gain status by buying 'bling' with stolen money. They can and should be dealt with.
