The United States has accomplished more in its short history than any other nation on this planet including those that have been around for thousands of years.

You have a lot to thank other countries for - if there had not been co-operation in settling then there would certainly be no 'United' States, instead it would have been sectioned into a number of new countries.

- diamondbigdog, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Actually Auditor, while it is true that the elite of Europe came here, they did so to escape the persecution of their homeland. That homeland held this country in its grips for a long time, you know tyrannical King and all. We declared Independence and then had to fight the British for it. You can be assured that they were not "cooperating" at that time.
We are great because we have incorporated people from all over the world and used the talents of all of them to make us better. The sum of the parts being greater than the whole. However, this does not negate the fact that we have accomplished more in our short history than any other nation. Freedom of Religion (why the colonists came) 2. Freedom from Toltaritarian government (independence) 3. Freedom to buy, sell and own land (end of the monarchs estates) 4. Freedom from want (excess food production & prosperity) 5. Freedom from religion (moving away from the moral oversight of family, friends and clergy) As told by Tom Wolfe during a CSPAN book review and interview. He also stated that the 5th freedom is why we will collapse like the Roman Empire and other societies.
