The reason they act as if they are now the new Soviet Union is due to their confidence that they own nuclear weapons and no one dares to really impose sanctions. No one wants to make a suicidal maniac carry out global annihilation threat. Israel knows that the U.S. and Russia have hair trigger launch capability.       They have never threatened to nuke anyone, nor have they stated a nuclear policy.

You tell everyone "don't attack because we have nukes". And in that sense I don't deny the right of any country, be it Israel or Iran to build them.

        I am one of those who believe the nuclear threat what was actually prevented WW3. If both Israel and Iran get their nukes I think we'll get a lasting peace (or a very short war if you're of the pessimistic kind).

While Isr-terro-rael possesses nuclear weapons, no other nation in the vicintiy has anything near the capacity to cause immense devastation. The creation of Israel was nothing other than the Britain's initiative to create even more tension in the already turbulent Middle-East region. Israel and Iraq are now the only stable handhold that the US and UK have on the region.         Secondly, nothing has 'become of this sight' because Digg seems to be one of the sources for open speech and opinions on the internet but due to its rising popularity probably won't remain so for long.

        In addition, comparing an economically embargoed region such as the West Bank under constant siege and occupation to the country that receives the largest amount of external aid in the world is erroneous.

        One of the main laws set against Israeli Muslims / Arabs is the law that prevents them from giving an Israeli citizenship to a married couple if the husband / wife is a Palestinian. Yet an Israeli Jew may immigrate to Israel just for being Jewish, let alone he can marry any person on earth and bring him / her to Israel. Their justification for this? To maintain Israel as a Jewish state, which is the reality. Israel is not a secular or a democratic state, it is a Jewish state first and foremost.

        That is the problem with short sighted people that take polls at face value, they never bother to consider the context.

        "I wish I could help you but I was told if I told you anything I would be imprisoned - but I'll agree to tell you why I'm declining on camera." - If they were the real ones being threatened, do you think they would even say the two-letter word "no"? Have you ever seen that before? You know how people decline to speak to the media; they make a run for it and then close their doors.

        They mentioned the 'honey-story' to get to Vanunu. And the honey could just as easily be Vanunu's lawyer as well as others. Everyone who seemed smug in giving you 'the real scoop' or others that seems overly ambiguous seemed as if they were acting out the part.

        They do that to build up the BBC's trust in its viewers. Once that's accomplished they divert your attention and interest to where THEY want it to be. "...the man hidden in the shadows of the government is THIS man... and HERE's where the facility is for making all the bombs". - its very much a squirrel waiving its big, fluffy tail to misdirect any would be attacks or investigations.

        I should also point out that I'm not saying "This is how it is", this is only my 'hunch', my gut-feeling. I don't have any proof to back any of my thoughts ... but then isn't that the point?

National defense is sacrosanct, in America, in Europe, in Israel, anywhere. Harsh punishments are not unheard of, nor are they rare when they are in relation to this kind of espionage. Outrage for Israel's action are perhaps compassionate, but not pragmatic. Security for nuclear weapons is no joking matter, and nations don't let this kind of thing happen lightly.

        13 Palestinians died in an Israeli strike. The headline? "Israel kills 13 Palestinians". Percent of lines in story referring to the dead? 95%.

All the other secondary nuclear powers out there at least threw out a few (Pakistan, India...). You might remember the french under Chirac a few years ago tested theirs because they couldn't be certain of their efficiency with only computer simulation.

    Since Israel's government is so much into deception.. could the "secret in the secret" (as the lawyer said) be that the nuclear program wasn't viable and that their bombs might as well not work well?

      Just in the 1960s the US conducted a series of stratospheric nuclear tests and no one was the wiser until the files have been disclosed

        Israel could very well use submarines to transport nukes to test sites all over the world, remote islands on the pacific have seen more of their fair share of nuclear tests. Another possibility is that it may have conducted stratospheric tests, but that is less likely.

        Not saying that it happened, I am saying that it is possible
