Joe Horn cleared by grand jury in Pasadena shootings
chron.com — Horn, a 62-year-old retiree, became the focus of an intense public debate after the Nov. 14 shootings. Many supporters praised him as a hero for using deadly force to protect property, while others dismissed him as a killer who should have heeded a 911 operator's instructions to stay in his house and wait for police.

- reland1, on 07/01/2008, -1/+17shut up, stoopid...I would have shot em, too...and I'm an old lady! A person has a right to protect himself...and his neighbors property! Yee haa!
- Barbrady, on 07/01/2008, -0/+15Moron.
- flip2trip, on 07/01/2008, -0/+4Beat me to it. :)
- BillE3, on 07/01/2008, -0/+10You must be a career B & E con angry about your lack of job safety.
- drachemorder, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3Murderer? Heck no. Hero? Patriot? Defender of the innocent? All of those!
- Stevanoski, on 07/01/2008, -4/+32Woohoo, another win for the good guys.
- reland1, on 07/01/2008, -3/+18Yippee! I am tickled to death by this decision...that is what a Grand Jury is all about! I think maybe the 2nd Amendment fight last week may have been beneficial to his case...whaddaya think, Steve?
- PolishLogic, on 07/01/2008, -1/+24Good to see that the grand jury made the right decision.
- inobla, on 07/01/2008, -1/+22I remember hearing the 911 call for this. Anyway... Great news!! He's welcome to move in next door to me anytime!
- planet87, on 07/01/2008, -1/+24I hope he really doesn't feel too bad about this. The fact is, if more people would be willing to do this, it wouldn't happen nearly as much.
And guess who dreamincode supports for president? - benoitcsirois, on 07/01/2008, -18/+3So it's official now: In Texas, private property is worth more than 2 human lives.
- TJATL, on 07/01/2008, -1/+17Don't Tread On Me!!!!
- flip2trip, on 07/01/2008, -1/+10You're dang skippy! Anyone breaks into my house better have made his funeral plans, 'cause my .357 magnum is loaded (with hollow points) and I don't miss.
- drachemorder, on 07/01/2008, -1/+6"Worth" has nothing to do with it, troll. Or if it is, you stated it wrongly. Preventing a felony is worth the lives of those attempting to commit that felony. When you break into someone's house you accept the risk that someone might shoot you for it.
- benoitcsirois, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1These people committed an unarmed robbery and lost their lives for it. That's ridiculous! Joe Horn had the choice to stay inside and wait for the police to come arrest the thieves. Instead he shot them both and feels really stupid about it now. And that's how he should feel.
It's not up to the citizens to decide whether or not a criminal should be shot, it's up to the law enforcement, and even them take stupid decisions.

- TJATL, on 07/01/2008, -0/+17I thought this was going to be an article about the player from the NFL, but great article regardless.

- Barbrady, on 07/01/2008, -0/+16moron
- KJeffV, on 07/01/2008, -1/+15It's illustrative how Ellenelles cont to shriek "Murderer!" despite both TX law AND the Court's decision, but question them on the 6th Commandment—"Thou shalt not murder."—and they insist upon an interpretation forbidding the killing of anyone & practically any thing. Paul was right: "...whitewashed supulchres."
- SteveMTyler, on 07/01/2008, -16/+4shooting two people in the back with a shotgun != self defense
- ssn697, on 07/01/2008, -1/+17your lame opinion < Grand Jury...
- Nannybell, on 07/01/2008, -0/+14These men placed themselves in harm's way by burglarizing a home in the first place. If they had not been doing that, they would not be dead. Place the primary blame where it belongs. Whether or not Horn is at fault on some level is a completely separate issue from whose fault it was that the situation existed in the first place. If we could get back to thinking logically in this country, we might have fewer problems. While I don't approve of vigilante justice, I do believe in placing primary responsibility where it belongs. Don't rob people's homes, and you won't get killed.
- titlemikedotws, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Well said.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 07/01/2008, -0/+9Evil prevails when good men do nothing.
Joe Horn did something. - nwshc, on 07/01/2008, -0/+3*****, I'm surprised everyone on DIGG, with it being so liberal, agrees with him. (I do too btw). Most of the liberals on FARK were up in arms.
- amoutsi, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1Yeah, what about the 6th Commandment - "Thou shalt not murder." Lets just shoot anyone we think are dangerous. Don't you guys think they should have been judged in court and be punished by the law? or Guns should be replaced by shock-compression guns or other protective weapons? What happened to human rights and dignity. I am very shocked how fast people jump off on taking conclusions without actually, taking a better look at the whole situation.
- titlemikedotws, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3It did go to court. The grand jury.
- gbudavid, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1The commandment says Murder. It is not murder to defend yourself or another if you believe you are in danger. So I think that was a red herring..
- elleigh2, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Why is it that the Libs always make the perps out to be the poor victims! If this had happened in another state, say Massachusettes, might have been a different outcome!
