There's a Latin phrase for statements like this. What is it again? Oh yes: Post hoc ergo propter hoc. - Naieve, on 07/24/2008, -6/+1Welcome to Pakistan.
Are you really surprised?
If you are I bet you don't know the geographical region Osama probably lives in.- RAGEdemon, on 07/24/2008, -2/+4Cummon yaar. Sad about the deaths, but can you imagine what the country would have been like if she actually came back into power? Anyone even remember mr. 10 percent?
She leeched the poor and sucked the country dry before going to the UK so she couldn't be prosecuted... she called it "self exile".

- lgh0s7l, on 07/24/2008, -1/+6there is no escape
- damian7, on 07/24/2008, -16/+58She was corrupt.
Elected twice, found guilty of corruption twice.
She was turned into some democratic hero by Western media with little to no mention of her history, or her own family members corrupt activity. She even had one of her brother's sentenced to jail, other family's exiled, deported, etc.
What a great woman. Finally, lets not forget her husband: Mr. 10% - Mr. 10% because he had imposed a law in which he would receive 10% of all profits in anything ranging from real estate, commercial transactions to government funded projects. All of these activities allowed the "Bhutto Dynasty" to accumulate enough wealth to live in pretty much a palace in Dubai (tax free).
But no, the sensationalist MSM had to neglect her entire past and corrupt rule and brandish her a martyr for democracy. ***** that.- atdakore, on 07/24/2008, -17/+7You are an idiot.
- damian7, on 07/24/2008, -3/+9Care to refute any of my claims?
- MacTyler, on 07/24/2008, -2/+17I don't know much about either side to this topic, but atdakore, he came across more intelligently than you....
- gimpbully, on 07/24/2008, -5/+1Political dissent? Just kill em
Witnesses? They're easily taken care of. - gimpbully, on 07/24/2008, -3/+1too, I don't think the statement of your opinion was the cause for him to call you an idiot, completely ignoring the subject matter of the article is more likely.
- atdakore, on 07/24/2008, -4/+3The article is pretty clear, and your comment doesn't help the fact that there are some pretty serious lies coming from very high up figures.
I doubt that any of us could ever know all the truth about Pakistan politics. including you.
Most of you what you say is based on here-say, not fact. And your interpretations of the event is obviously biased. I suppose you support Scotland Yards verdicts on the matter.
The concept of her being treated like a Democratic hero by the Media, is just not accurate.
The media turned it into something more, because there was and is something more to it.
A cover up occurred. a powerful woman was murdered, and all you do is bad mouth her.
As if she somehow deserved it.
So I stand by my statement,
You are an idiot.
- stagmire, on 07/24/2008, -4/+13100% correct. That's why you'd be hard pressed to find a Pakistani who mourns her death. It's laughable, the way the foreign press played this up as some sort of Princess Diana redux or whatever. She was a terrible prime minister and her popularity ratings in Pakistan were in the ***** when she died.
But that hasn't stopped liberals in western countries from turning her into some sort of martyr for...well I don't know what exactly, since she was PM of Pakistan for 8 years and didn't do ***** except steal money from the government and go on multi-million dollar shopping sprees in London. I guess she's a martyr for people who think we should all be able to steal billions from our governments and spend it on ritzy jaunts to Europe. - gimpbully, on 07/24/2008, -8/+12so no matter your opinion or facts, you're accepting assassination/murder as a proper method of silencing those you oppose?
- MacTyler, on 07/24/2008, -1/+7I don't think he is advocating murder. I think he is simply saying that western media has turned her into some kind of hero and that doesn't seem to be the case based on her track record. I really don't have any clue on any of this so I am just going to stop now.
- Naieve, on 07/24/2008, -4/+4Welcome to the Middle East, expect no changes, ever.
Status Quo. - damian7, on 07/24/2008, -3/+1Who says Musharraf assassinated her? If anything, she was an enemy of the "radicals" and it was most likely an Al-Qaeda operation.
It seems that you have forgotten about what Musharraf has done: found Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. He has committed thousands of his own troops in combating terrorism and maintaining secularism in one of the most violent and radical regions of the world. So far he has survived close to a dozen asssassination attempts ranging from gunfire, car bombings and suicide bombings from Al-Qaeda.
If anything, he should be praised for upholding some form of secularism in a region which contains the world's most dangerous terrorists and balancing his power in the region (through the use of WMDs) while maintaining that hotbed Pakistan. - gimpbully, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2So no matter of evidence even gives you pause? You're certainly entitled to your opinion of people but when you default to an explanation that is contradicted by some fairly concrete evidence, I think you're being obtuse.
Sure, this could be correlation, but any reasonable person looking at this would view a drive by shooting of a major witness in a major federal case to be a case of assasination. - gimpbully, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3also, I didn't say who assassinated her. Assassination is inherently about silencing dissent.
- damian7, on 07/24/2008, -6/+1Look, Bhutto's return was marked by chaos. She was willing to take back power through any means necessary.
She was sending outright threats to Musharraf, she was pretty much planning a violent coup in which she was going to overthrow the entire government and put her in dictatorial rule. Musharraf is the last guy we need gone from the Middle East. Besides what I've mentioned already in the things Musharraf has done, he maintained power and control AND MOST IMPORTANTLY STABILITY in the most politically bloody country in the world.
Bhutto's return was marked by a bomb blast which killed 107 (about) people and one in which would have caused chaotic upheaval not only in Pakistan but also Afghanistan and Iraq. Radicals would be unified and fully believing in the idea of Western interventionism. (Female leader is extraordinary out of the world for extremists).
If Musharraf iced the bitch, (not saying he should, but consider who she was and what she could have done) he saved the country a lot of grief and suffering. It's similar to someone assassinating a Karl Rove or Dick Cheney figure. Do those guys deserve fair investigations [***** no]. Why should Bhutto? Silencing dissent is important in Pakistan. Read the history of the country. Nothing is done fairly. Almost every leader has been assassinated/bombed/murdered/exiled/executed/jailed. - gimpbully, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2so... "yes"?
- LeeSoong, on 08/01/2008, -0/+1Words like 'assassination' and 'murder' sound so harsh and negative, the powers that be prefer the term 'retirement'.
- arjie, on 07/24/2008, -2/+23Here in India we knew all that. But that's not the point, she was making quite an impact against the dictatorial Musharraf regime. Pakistanis obviously preferred the embezzler to the dictator (effectively, a dictator at least), a reasonable choice.
Besides I don't get it. No one's claiming she was an angel, everybody's just saying that Pakistan has been set back on the road to democracy because of her death, which is pretty much right. - dracken, on 07/24/2008, -2/+12The fact that she is corrupt is true. The fact that she was played up by the MSM the last hope for democracy is also true.
But that does not in any way reduce the heinousness of the crime that she was assassinated. This article is not about whether she was the best chance Pakistan had, rather it is about the fact that some people got her assassinated and most probably they are not the ones that blame was immediately assigned to and they would never be caught, because they are bumping off the witnesses.
Remember that she was targeted by a bomb a few weeks before she was assassinated in which 150 people lost their lives. The streetlights mysteriously went off before the bomb went off. Even after that attempt Musharaaf declined her request for private security guards from a western country.
After her assassination, the government spokesman went on the record to say that she died because she hit her head on the sunroof latch. Even though a video surfaced, which clearly showed a man pointing and firing a gun at her, initially the government spokesman refused to acknowledge that there was a gunman. Add to that, her crime scene was hosed down with high pressure hoses a mere hour after her assassination. And now her bodyguard mysteriously dies.
The list of people she had given in a letter to Mushraaf from whom she feared a threat to her life were never questioned.
What does all these have to do about whether she was corrupt or not ?
The real gem of the article is: Zulfikar Mirza, the Sindh home minister, said it was "premature to say that Khalid was killed for being a witness in Benazir Bhutto's assassination case" - Lone1, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2uhh, that brother was a terrorist, plane hijacking variety, who started his own terrorist org.
- dstz, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1"the sensationalist MSM had to neglect her entire past and corrupt rule and brandish her a martyr for democracy"

- stagmire, on 07/24/2008, -12/+6Who cares? She was a terrible, corrupt leader. At the time of her death her favoribility rating in Pakistan was trending around 26%, lower than George W. Bush in America today. That's because Pakistanis remember when she was prime minister and she stole billions of dollars from state coffers.
Funny how the American left gets all weepy over this elitist phony who was only ever famous because of who her father was.

Her HUSBAND stole BILLIONS, she just shared it, bought ***** with it etc.
Sources - Most of the sources claim embezzling valued at only a few hundred million, however Citigroup is set to file charges against Zardari (her husband) for close to billions. It is hard to track the actual cash as it has been moved from Swiss and Mexican bank accounts and in smaller amounts, across the world.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1946116/p ... - stagmire, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1damian7 is correct. In fact, it was the Swiss who ratted her out. The Swiss banking authorities were like "OH HAI! Just thought you people of Pakistan might like to know that your prime minister bilked hundreds of millions of dollars from your state coffers and stashed the funds in our accounts!" This was the beginning of the end for Ms. Bhutto's failed political career, which be all measures had beena world class ***** even before these revelations were made.
