Murdered Pregnant Marine Was Victimized By Many
notalawyer.com — Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach, the Marine who was murdered while pregnant, was victimized not only by her rapist and killer, but by the media, her friends and step-mother as well.

- iraq, on 01/13/2008, -3/+64This is really disgusting, what the hell is wrong with people. I agree the media did a real job on her, but on the bright side.. they probably picked up more viewers and ratings as a result!
- eclipse007, on 01/13/2008, -1/+32I followed the story through CNN, and the most disgusting thing was the Sheriff responsible for investigation, he reminded me of the attention-whore mayor of South Park, every day he made irrelevant comments, he accused the poor girl to no end and was almost certain that she left on her own and basically no crime happened.
Instead of investigating which is his bloody job, and going after the rapist and saving the poor girl, he kept talking to stupid step-mom and her friends and then reflecting whatever they blabbed to the media. Disgusting!- latrosicarius, on 01/13/2008, -18/+1I don't think you know what you're talking about. The sheriff didn't say anything like that.
- AlanLivingston, on 01/13/2008, -0/+13No, he really did. The CNN article quotes him:
Earlier Thursday, Brown pleaded with Lauterbach to come forward and get help.
"Regardless of the circumstances, this has got to stop," Brown told reporters. "You can't run from those things in life." - eclipse007, on 01/13/2008, -0/+12On Jan 10 he asked her to stop playing games and come back home,
on Jan 11 when they found the remains he said:
' The discovery is "consistent with what we were looking for," '
You ***** moron, just a day earlier you believed she's hiding herself! The only thing that is consistent here is sheriff Ed Brown's stupidity and incompetency.
If Bob Marley was alive he would've shot this sheriff, especially since his last name is Brown too.- snockhockster, on 01/13/2008, -0/+2I wholeheartedly agree! The Sheriff couldn't even conceive of and failed to recognize, even when pointed out to him, that her disappearance was possibly related to her being a key witness in an upcoming trial.
- pauldy, on 01/13/2008, -3/+1And this was all before the note from the wife of the accused etc... If your going to besmear the man at least have some semblance of a clue as to what your talking about. Her staunchest supporter who actually knew her claimed she wasn't a compulsive liar but then admitted in stressful situations she tended to stretch the truth. This is a tragic situation made even more so by people who want to a take a 50 thousand foot view of the after math and criticize everyone involved. The short of it is that given enough time the facts will work themselves out no mater how messed up the situation. This isn't like the Floridian case where that poor woman was killed by her husband and the courts upheld and sanctioned the murder. If you read through the time line and facts of what happened there it is a real case of people failing her.
- AlanLivingston, on 01/13/2008, -0/+13No, he really did. The CNN article quotes him:
- Darmichar, on 01/13/2008, -0/+14I followed this story on CNN as well.
All I can say is I hope the ***** that was said about this girl by the step mother and the Sheriff comes back to haunt them 10 fold.- pauldy, on 01/13/2008, -3/+4Nothing came back to haunt Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton for their participation in organizing rallies and protests against the duke lacrosse players after it was discovered the woman really was lying and had falsely accused them.
- latrosicarius, on 01/13/2008, -18/+1I don't think you know what you're talking about. The sheriff didn't say anything like that.
- kindrobot, on 01/13/2008, -15/+2Woah.. waoh there buddy. Blame the media? They reported only what everyone around her said and did while in the process of completely FAILING her. Hardly their fault. Not reporting what they did and said would have been like a night watchman falling asleep. It's what they DO! It's not like this was a Brittany Spears story or something.
But that's cool, I guess it's "common" now to blame the messenger. Hop in back, this bandwagon's got plenty of room left.- jaxcs, on 01/13/2008, -1/+3Why is it that whenever someone says that they are just doing their job, it becomes shorthand for another person's misfortune?
- kindrobot, on 01/14/2008, -1/+1Because scapegoating is fun and easy?
- jaxcs, on 01/13/2008, -1/+3Why is it that whenever someone says that they are just doing their job, it becomes shorthand for another person's misfortune?

- malcor, on 01/13/2008, -13/+5Sorry to hijack this thread, but rape is something that really disgusts me and I only wish the worst on people who commit it.
Here's the alleged rapist's email address:
cesar.laurean@usmc.mil
I have his work phone too. Send me a shout if you want it.- messiah, on 01/13/2008, -2/+13Are you an idiot or what. The guy is really gonna come back and check him email or answer his work phone. He is a wanted felon and the military has probably got his email and phone monitored or blocked.
Its really going to help the cause sending useless emails and calls....moron- malcor, on 01/13/2008, -13/+4Thanks for the insults. For one, he's in the USMC so he's probably going to be expected to continue going to work under orders not to talk about anything. The Marine Corps just doesn't let people sit around and do nothing. If he's not in the brig, then he's going to be at work. And two, he works in Admin so of course he's going to be checking his email. He can't do his job without it so no, it's not going to be blocked. The USMC doesn't even control the email; NMCI does and they would probably charge money to block his email. The phone number may go to his SNCOIC though.
- hiikeeba, on 01/13/2008, -0/+8RTFA. Laurean has disappeared. Police are looking for him. You really think he's going to stop at an Internet cafe and check his email?
- danielombardi, on 01/13/2008, -4/+10I'm not going to harass an ALLEGED rapist. Thats not right either man...
Innocent until proven guilty.- redfox2600, on 01/13/2008, -5/+5I don't know why you're getting dugg down. He is innocent until proven guilty, no matter how damning it looks right now.
- sougly, on 01/13/2008, -4/+2You guys have it all wrong. "Innocent until proven guilty" is touted on Digg only when the accuser is proved to be lying.

- Trill, on 01/13/2008, -0/+3I'm sorry, but someone who will likely be charged with rape, two murders and desertion (unauthorized absence) will not be placed under restriction (confined to base but still expected to work) until trial, but will be placed into confinement awaiting courts-martial. Considering the alleged murder took place outside of the Marine base, the civilian court may have or be given jurisdiction for the murder case, meaning he will be in civilian jail, and bail seems highly unlikely considering he is a known flight risk.
- messiah, on 01/13/2008, -2/+13Are you an idiot or what. The guy is really gonna come back and check him email or answer his work phone. He is a wanted felon and the military has probably got his email and phone monitored or blocked.

- n0gnuz, on 01/13/2008, -0/+45'Now, of course, we know that Lauterbach was most likely murdered, burned, possibly dismembered and buried in the backyard by her alleged rapist, [Armando] Laurean. Laurean is now on the run, having left his wife a note saying that Lauterbach had killed herself and that he had buried her in back of the house. There is currently a search going on in his back yard, while police attempt to locate him.'
There is nothing about this story that isn't completely sad.- dracostimpy, on 01/13/2008, -18/+6Except the fact that it's the #1 story in America right now; that's more pathetic than sad, given that there's plenty of real news happening every day that actually affects a whole lot more than the 100 or so people that care about the dead blond du jour.
P.S. My sympathies to any of the Diggers who read this that are part of the .00001% of the country that actually know any of the parties involved.- craprock, on 01/13/2008, -1/+13Except that it isn't the #1 story in America right now. This is a hell of a lot more important than Britney Spears going crazy, but guess which one is more commonly known. And even if this doesn't affect anyone, it still shows that there are things wrong with the system. (See Rarson's comment below)
- dinostabOMG, on 01/13/2008, -4/+8The few, the proud, the marines.

Only in the military would you be forced to go back to work with the person who RAPED you.- kittybit83, on 01/13/2008, -2/+37she was probably acting 'friendly' cuz she was literally scared to death of him and what he might do. sad that this has happened, but even sadder is peoples disrespect for the dead these days.

As someone with bipolar disorder (that's now under control), I can say, with a certainty, that the possibility that she ran away because she was in a manic episode was real, and that people shouldn't be blamed in the least for humoring that.
Not only that, but even if she wasn't bipolar, people would've still posted messages asking her to call someone.
Basically, the first 5 paragraphs of this article are BS, but it is screwed up how the Marines handled the situation.- snockhockster, on 01/13/2008, -2/+5Not only how the Marines handled the situation, but Sheriff Ed Brown as well.
- kindrobot, on 01/13/2008, -2/+5You know as well as I that not every person diagnosed with bi-polar disorder is prone to running off, and assuming it's possible simply because of the disorder is part of the problem. There's such a huge lack of understanding of this disorder. I'm glad you're dealing with it, but I hope for your sake that you're never kidnapped or crash your car somewhere off road where it can't be seen.
- Pake, on 01/13/2008, -1/+2Notice his use of the word "possibility." It's key to understanding that he realizes not every person who is bi-polar is capable of running off, but the possibility is higher than someone who is not bi-polar.
- aukxsona, on 01/13/2008, -0/+6Her step mother sounds like my real mother. The bitch should rot.
- unorginalityftw, on 01/13/2008, -0/+3Sorry to hear that.
- SunflowerPower, on 01/14/2008, -1/+2Someone who has run away because they are in a manic episode is incapable of making rational decisions and is in very real danger of committing suicide or being victimized. Bipolar disorder kills. Suicide is the third leading cause of death in young adults. A disappearance of someone who is mentally incapacitated by any medical condition should not be taken lightly. They need urgent medical attention, not flippant remarks.
- joe90210, on 01/13/2008, -0/+30the idiot police that have been handling this are beyond incompetent, it's been three weeks since her disappearance and only now did they figure to look at her rapist's house, the worst part is they try to justify their inaction because someone told them she was friendly with her rapist, wtf is that??
- snockhockster, on 01/13/2008, -0/+11Exactly! The sheriff wasn't even willing to consider the possibility that it had something to do with military trial she was going to be a witness in because it was "military related". I hope the citizens of Onslow county were watching their sheriff and remember his seeming incompetence at the next election.
- KaJuN4, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1It took them a couple weeks to investigate her rapist's house, yet in almost every other case like this a spouse is always immediately considered a prime suspect. The way they handled this is the definition of incompetence.
- Heiral, on 01/13/2008, -9/+2***** Up... right like the wife's gonna believe that she suicided
- AdmiralKarelia, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1Suicided? That's not even a word.
- Typhoon2009, on 01/13/2008, -1/+16***** incompetent MPs who handled her rape accusation, ***** incompetent police handling the search (or rather, incompetent police chiefs like that dickwad on TV). Why the hell can't they question the guy just because he has a lawyer? Makes no ***** sense. It sounds childish but it's things like these that make me wish for someone like Jack Bauer... a person who isn't afraid to break rules in order to bring justice.
- ElAssoWipo, on 01/13/2008, -1/+3Well a whole bunch of Jack Bauers are breaking rules to prevent justice. You need the incredible hulk or something.
- koick, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1>Why the hell can't they question the guy just because he has a lawyer?
The Uniformed Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), the laws which apply to military members, is a strange, unconstitutional work which mostly make no sense.
- smacksaw, on 01/13/2008, -7/+2Semper Fi - even if they're ***** over your fellow Marine.
- overtoke, on 01/13/2008, -3/+3***** over your fellow marine? the guy (and many other piece of ***** marines hiding behind and protecting each others' corrupt actions with 'semper fi') should be shot
- snockhockster, on 01/13/2008, -0/+24Sheriff Ed Brown should be taking more heat for his apparent inability to have realized or suspected that her disappearance was related to the military trial she was going to be a witness in. Several times he essentially stated that her being a witness was military related and was essentially meaningless to his investigation.
Ed Brown, "That's military related, that's totally out of the area of this investigation....uhhh and therefore and any comment concerning her involvement or her circumstances at the base is the base."
I sincerely hope the citizens of Onslow county in North Carolina reconsider electing him the future if that's how he tends to handles investigations - where he essentially ignores credible leads. Thank goodness they got a tip as to the location of her body, because I seriously doubt Ed Brown would have made much progress for some time. I just wish someone would ask him about his previous comments now.- uncwidiot, on 01/13/2008, -0/+3I live in Onslow County when I'm not in school, about 10 miles away from the base, and I can tell you with certainty that he'll get elected again. Most of the people in the county are straight up hicks who really don't care and for the most part have a boner for the Marines, despite them being the reason that it's one of the poorest counties in the state. It's very sad that this happened, but if could happen again, and no I don't think it's right, just sorta how it goes. It's just one of the many reasons I am getting out of there.
- MattnJax, on 01/13/2008, -1/+5I think we've all known people that have mental and social issues. That being said, does she deserve what happened? no, but can I see people turning their back to someone like her? yes ... no matter what, what happened to her is appauling and I hope they catch the son of a bitch that did it, and hopefully give him the chair.
- Emnsta, on 01/13/2008, -3/+17Shes a liar, she must have lied about being murdered also!
- ruaspicwapc, on 01/16/2008, -0/+0You look alot like the killer figures you'd say something stupid

DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT STEALING IT! I'm already writing the script!!!!- h3lx, on 01/13/2008, -2/+5They'll can it to the 'Lifetime' channel and soccer moms across the nation will sit riveted when they should be doing the goddamn dishes!

- cowisgood, on 01/13/2008, -1/+11How horrible that someone can experience such pain and hurt, and even on top of that be disrespected and mistreated so much before and after that pain. To go through all that, I couldn't imagine.
- TexMurphy, on 01/13/2008, -2/+7How much shame does our country have to endure!
- overtoke, on 01/13/2008, -4/+3Someone needs to die for our sins.
- jordanlgta, on 01/13/2008, -3/+20She was white. She was pretty. She was a Marine. She was young. She was pregnant. That's why the media loves this story, and it's disgusting the way that Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC and others are using it for ratings.
- Pake, on 01/13/2008, -2/+8But if it wasn't for the media, how would we hear of this? Sure, they're enjoying the ratings, as are the bloggers, but we'd never see this story without them.
- redfox2600, on 01/13/2008, -1/+3I saw this story on liveleak and was just about to submit it, I never heard of it before since I never watch CNN. She deserve much more than to be used as a media tool, or be swept under the rug.
- Pake, on 01/13/2008, -2/+8But if it wasn't for the media, how would we hear of this? Sure, they're enjoying the ratings, as are the bloggers, but we'd never see this story without them.
- Olivaise, on 01/13/2008, -4/+2There's no escaping ignorance.
- overtoke, on 01/13/2008, -7/+1Yeah really, they shouldn't have enlisted.
- BeyondGoodNEvil, on 01/13/2008, -14/+3I'm not blaming her at all, but what are girls doing in the military? It seems this happens far too much, either getting pregnant, or being raped etc. I just think it's naive when they join the military. It's violent, it's not for girls. That said, I hope when they find this guy, they castrate and execute the *****.
- snockhockster, on 01/13/2008, -0/+6You sexist comments not withstanding, I would be interested to learn if women who serve in other militaries are treated similar - like say Israel (one of the few I know offhand that have women actively serving). Additionally, I hope you realize that women can serve in a multitude of capacities within the military and that you are grossly over generalizing. Implying women cannot serve because it is inevitable they will be raped or be mistreated dishonors the military as much as the criminals within the military.
- MattnJax, on 01/13/2008, -3/+2I kinda agree with both of you. While I do believe that, especially in heavy combat, women have no place in the military, a part of me believes that it's ok to have them serve in some degree. But war is violent, and not really a place for women. That being said, are women that serve in the military targets for rape or getting pregant? sure, do they belong in the military? maybe, but we do hear about this kind of stuff a lot. I mean let's face it, whenever you mix men and women together, they are gonna hook up, so maybe women need to be excluded so this kind of stuff won't happen.
- snockhockster, on 01/13/2008, -0/+3Let's not forget - this woman was not "at war". I also have to disagree with your statement that, "war is violent, and not really a place for women." Considering the fact that many men are unwilling to serve in the military, I have nothing but respect for the women who do. Men and women should be able to make the choice for themselves whether or not they want to serve their country in that capacity and not be excluded from that choice because there are potential violent criminals within the military. If anything, perhaps the screening process for both men and women should be examined.
- MattnJax, on 01/13/2008, -2/+1@snockhockster: While she wasn't "at war", she still, if she didn't get pregant, would have ended up in Iraq. But that's not really the point. That being said, I wasn't discrediting any woman that serves our country. I too have respect for them. It's just a part of me believes they shouldn't serve. I'm sure that sounds sexist as hell, but we're all entitled to our opinions.
- aukxsona, on 01/13/2008, -1/+5This whole sub let is sexist as hell. Ya know what I HOPE. Some woman beats the ***** out of every retard that thinks violence isn't with in a woman. None of you have met a hell cat yet I suppose.
- MattnJax, on 01/13/2008, -3/+2I kinda agree with both of you. While I do believe that, especially in heavy combat, women have no place in the military, a part of me believes that it's ok to have them serve in some degree. - Synapse84, on 01/13/2008, -14/+2yeap, same way i feel.. I'm not sexist or anything, but when you put a female to male ratio of 1:30 (estimating lol), with guys that have no gf or have a gf 9k miles away... rape is gonna happen lol.
but yea... really hope they find this *****.. "ohh she commited suicide so i'd figure i'd bury her in the backyard without notifying authorities....." lol.- snockhockster, on 01/13/2008, -2/+5Let me guess... they are asking for it right? Come on!
- h3lx, on 01/13/2008, -4/+1not so much asking for it as allowing for it to happen. You can't lock a dog up in the house for a week then punish it for ***** on the floor. That said, women can and should serve in whatever capacity they're able. We trained canadian officers with co-ed squads and while on ops, we could smell the women.
- snockhockster, on 01/13/2008, -1/+5Allowing for it to happen? You honestly believe victims of crime allow it to happen? You should read kurejibitch's comments below and reflect on your asinine and shameful assertions.
- h3lx, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1Criminals are opportunists. You give them the slightest glimmer of a chance they're going to take it. You can't tie a goat to a stake in the middle of Africa and then get all upset because a ***** lion ate it. The established authority charged with her safety failed. Simple as that. They ALLOWED an environment where this type of behavior propagates unabated. The commanding parties are equally guilty by consequence. That's what I was trying to say...
- yurishoujo, on 01/13/2008, -1/+7That's like saying being really angry excuses first degree murder. It doesn't. Implying that there is any sort of excuse for rape, and that women should have to alter a respectable aspect of their lives to avoid it is a disgustingly twisted and unfair view.
- niobevulpes, on 01/13/2008, -1/+5Rape is gonna happen, lol? Are you serious? Never mind misogyny, what does it say about us that we can't expect men to keep their dick in check? Boys will be boys, rape will happen hehe.
If I was a man I would be pissed off women looked at me as a potential rapist. - kurejibitch, on 01/13/2008, -1/+6Only four words: You sick, ignorant *****. Women deserve rape because your girlfriend is a few miles away? Because man is, on a whole, such an ANIMALISTIC and impulsive beast that he cannot even control his own sexual urges enough to resist forcefully (violently) taking another women against her will, defiling her body and self-worth, RAPING her? Are you being serious? What are you, a typical snide cocky bastard of 14 trying to play up some pseudo-big guy image in front of the internet?
Agreeing with niobevulpes when I say that if I were a man I would be deeply disturbed and ashamed that every woman who ever took a second and cautionary look at me did so with genuine fear and -- as we can see by synapse84's comment -- apparently, rightfully so.
That he has only been dugg down twice is very real, and very sad. - x1ang, on 01/13/2008, -6/+2I think a majority of you are misunderstanding what he's saying. He's not justifying rape in anyway. He's saying, given the men to women ratio in the military as well as the number of various men with different backgrounds, that sooner or later some sort of sexual harrasment or rape case will happen - especially given the current gender ratio in the military.
Either way, I personally support women who serve in the military and it's really unfornate that something like this happened. - Synapse84, on 01/14/2008, -1/+1wow, x1ang is the only person that replied to me and understood what i was saying. dunno why he's being buried.
to clarify...
I hate rapist, they're the lowest scum on earth.
so no i'm not saying rape is ok, good, or that i support rape. and I'd personally castrate any rapist, given the chance.
and i support the female troops as well, and have nothing against them.
but basically what i was saying is... say theres 200,000 troops in iraq.. with a 1:30 ratio.. thats.. 6,666 females.. 193,334 males... now out of those 193k males.. at least one will be desperate enough to turn to rape.. and when it comes down to an american female or a durka durka female... who would he pick?
so no.. i don't support rape, and i find it immoral. but as i was saying, just given the numbers and ratio it will happen eventually. - BeyondGoodNEvil, on 01/17/2008, -0/+2Look you guys. All we're saying is that women are MORE important to society than men. Men are expendable. Women should be protected, not put on the front lines. It's wise to keep them out of situations where they would more likely be raped or murdered. Unfortunately, this happens more often in the military than, say, if she was in the kitchen cooking me a pie or making a sandwich. It's out of utmost respect for girls that we don't want them in dangerous situations.
- snockhockster, on 01/13/2008, -2/+5Let me guess... they are asking for it right? Come on!
- magamiako, on 01/13/2008, -12/+6I have the unfortunate issue of my brother being in the military. That said, most of the women I've met when having to go pick him up from base were the real--flirty types of girls.
That said, this article noted that she was still "friendly" with the guy even after the alleged rape.
There could be any number of stories with this. We'll never know the real situation, though.
What we know:
-Girl in military has sex (possibly non-consensual) with male.
-Girl gets pregnant
-Girl ends up dead in said male's backyard.
It's entirely possible that she decided to sleep with him, ***** went sour, and she claimed she was raped in order to get back at him. Perhaps the ***** that happened was he didn't want to acknowledge the kid was his. Afterwards she confronts him at her house, and ends up dead.
Either way, we know the two were involved with eachother while the guy has a wife....- kurejibitch, on 01/13/2008, -1/+8I have to be honest here -- the girl, 8 months pregnant, is dead and buried in her perpetrated rapist's backyard.
Is "it's entirely possible that she...claimed she was raped in order to get back at him" even a valid argument outside of contextual society? :/ I know that there are a few cases where a woman has lied about being raped, and made the headlines thusly. And that's awful -- but she's DEAD, buried in the guy's BACKYARD. Is it not true that speculating she was lying only arises as a way to push the blame back onto her? She deserved to be dismembered and scattered underneath his lawn?- snockhockster, on 01/13/2008, -0/+5According to magamiako, she probably was flirty - so yeah. Disgusting mindset isn't it?
- pauldy, on 01/13/2008, -5/+1Or possibly its just a way to push at the point no one knows what truly happened just yet and jumping to either conclusion is a bit premature.

- b8man99, on 01/13/2008, -2/+5The military has been having a hard time recruiting new pawns to put in the path of bullets lately. I can't imagine they cooperated with the police in the slightest in an effort to avoid bad press.
Makes you wonder what else they've covered up.- h3lx, on 01/13/2008, -1/+1the Marines have had surpringly steady recruitment numbers, nothing as high as the 9-11 peaks, but the popularity of the war hasn't had that much effect. As far as what they cover up... well, the military is a whole little country unto itself, events are kept under wraps to protect individuals and their families. We are not entitled to know about any of it. They really could give ***** aboutPR.
Being a 'pawn' were the best years of my life, don't knock it till you've done it. - AgelessStranger, on 01/13/2008, -0/+0Another taco bell worker present to lecture us on the military/industrial complex. Go to college, get a real job, see the sunshine and put down the crack pipe.

- J4k3, on 01/13/2008, -8/+4***** disgusting. That rapist and killer should have his penis cut off! I'll do it myself if no one else has the balls (pun intended) to do it. I hope he dies an ugly death.
- valsu, on 01/13/2008, -3/+3Sure ya will, tough guy. *rolls eyes*
- thejokker, on 01/13/2008, -3/+2"Several steps were taken to contact her via telephone, cell phone, even in person by sending Marines to her residence," said II MEF spokesman Lt. Col. Curtis Hill. "At that time, there was no reason to believe anything other than she had voluntarily placed herself in an unauthorized absence status."
Hill said that Lauterbach also left her roommate a note saying she was "going away" and apologized for "the inconvenience." - felayde, on 01/13/2008, -1/+11So basically all of you saying women shouldn't be in the military are blaming them for getting raped? Well excuse me, but there is no context that can make this crime acceptable and there will never be. Men are not wild beasts without the capacity to think and differentiate right from wrong. Rape is always the fault of the rapist and not the victim's, remember that. This whole male/female ratio thing doesn't make sense either. With your thinking if there's only one female in computer science with 27 other males (my current situation at college) that would make it acceptable for them to rape her? Seriously... I think it's horrible what happened to her, regardless of her mental state.
- seanie719, on 01/13/2008, -3/+2Probably going to be a cover up by the army. Its sad that there were two lives lost here.
- AdmiralKarelia, on 01/13/2008, -0/+2Considering it happened in the Marines, I doubt the Army will do anything.
- DrunkChimp, on 01/13/2008, -2/+1American Media love SMUT because it = HIGHER RATINGS = Higher advertising revenues, but the cherry on the cake is that Americas eat it all up. Lets face it most of us are sick perverted bastards, without which Faux News could not survive.

(and if she weren't hot you'd all be thinking the same thing) - pauldy, on 01/13/2008, -3/+2This is simply a case of tragic hindsight, no one failed her. They kept looking even though pretty much everyone was thinking she just ran away, which probably means she was capable of or had done similar acts in the past. So her own previous actions is what lead to people not believing she was in any real danger. I can only imagine it is the whole boy who cried wolf scenario. This is going to be one of those crazy love triangles like the astronut you just know it.

- MrESaulved, on 01/13/2008, -2/+1Children having children is going to be our cultural downfall. Bad parents who are utterly incapable of raising perfectly normal and healthy children, and when confronted with any rearing difficulty, stop trying: "You know the number" implies they want you to forget it, a heartless and sickening thing to say.
People's futility thresholds are at an all time low, and combine that with an obvious lack of compassion and empathy you will just see more and more of family tragedies just like these. Women need to put off having babies till later in life, for the good of us all. We have reached that point in our modern society. - capnawesome, on 01/13/2008, -1/+1did anyone else notice how badly written this article was? content wise, it was interesting. stylistically, sophomoric.

I hope the people whom made her out to be some " disorder" have nightmares of what she had to go through. and the miserable piece of ***** who did this should have his johnson dismembered. i don't care who you are or what you've done, no ones perfect and no one deserves to die in such a manner.
