- sotopheavy, on 02/11/2008, -4/+46My girlfriend and I were driving by in Austin, TX. My GF wouldn't honk the horn so I reached over and gave anon a supportive honk. People were packed on both sides of the street for about a block and were spread out more sparsely about a block further away. There was also a van driving around town that said something llike "Ask a Christian, Ask a Jew, Ask a Muslim, but if you ask a Scientologist, they'll tell you when the check clears."
Everybody came out for a completely peaceful lawful protest as far as I could tell. Alien costumes were pretty funny too!- nunu4u, on 02/11/2008, -2/+4Love the van!

- truax, on 02/11/2008, -1/+6woohoo! i'm in some of these! ty
- nepawoods, on 02/11/2008, -15/+4You 4channers use the word "moar" a hundred times more than the rest of us use the word "more" ... just to make a point. The point? Well, that's about as much of a point as you all ever make. Damn ***** sad.
- UNL1M1T3D, on 02/11/2008, -2/+4I think it's kind of sad that you are getting that bent out of shape over a word.
- nepawoods, on 02/11/2008, -7/+4I'm not bent out of shape. I'm pointing out the complete and utter meaningless of it, and the fact that such complete and utter meaningless expressions, and nothing else, are what they cling to. It's sad - not the word, but the clinging to it as if it meant something - the clinging to it believing that it actually does mean something. If you want to deny that, explain the meaning.
- sekhui, on 02/11/2008, -0/+3it's a meme, dude. get over it.

- Revolution101, on 02/11/2008, -3/+3this was so fun. Not the best photoset though.
Can't wait til next time! - willster580, on 02/11/2008, -5/+2I've been by that building before...I had to resist the urge to burn it down.
- ishwarchand, on 02/11/2008, -0/+5So this is what those guys were doing. I didnt see that many people though. The church is weird though. they make you take a personality test and then say that you should join scientology as that is the only thing that can help you. we are 5 friends who have taken the test and they said the same thing.
- asus2000, on 06/30/2008, -2/+6Is this where all my Ron Paul people went?
- wonderworm, on 02/11/2008, -2/+2Nope, they are all over at the new Obama headquarters. You should come too. The Ron Paul Army is moving to Obama.
- ICSU, on 02/11/2008, -4/+2I'd like to know the religious background of the protesters, Because if they are following another organized religion, that's hypocrisy only theists can achieve.
Scientology is far less intimidating and harmful than Islam. Unlike Islam, you are at least not just born and forced into it.- round427, on 02/11/2008, -2/+3Most are atheist, but thanks for playing. I know you were just itching for a catfight.
- ICSU, on 02/11/2008, -1/+1Was I? Wrong. Maybe you are when you expect others.

ALL HAIL XENU!! (THX FROM ANON IN SYDNEY) - Nidis, on 02/11/2008, -4/+1I wish more people 'got' whats happening though =( It's all in the name of good fun, at the expense of a largely ghey bunch of crackheads. They played Rick Astley for gods sake, its a war of idea's, but probably not in the traditional sense.
Xenu is serious ***** business. - ilikefun, on 02/11/2008, -0/+3***** or gtfo
- fishbert, on 02/11/2008, -4/+1anon delivers ... about 10 people holding signs outside of what looks like a parking garage at first glance.
raid? buried as inaccurate (only because there's no bury as gross exaggeration option)

- Indolentron, on 02/11/2008, -12/+44Maybe you should have picked a sample pic that showed more than one person.
- GhostToon, on 02/11/2008, -1/+10But the lone person is the FBI dun dun dun.....
- ufia, on 02/11/2008, -1/+7The FBI is fat and wearing a t-shirt from a souvenir shop.
- KyleGoetz, on 02/11/2008, -1/+4There were a lot of fat people wearing t-shirts potentially from souvenir shops at the raid. Anon eats unhealthy and doesn't afraid of anything, after all.
- ufia, on 02/11/2008, -1/+7The FBI is fat and wearing a t-shirt from a souvenir shop.
- aussieNickuss, on 02/11/2008, -0/+5I laughed at the image thinking that only one person turned up. Total failure, obviously not.........it's total win!
- aceakm, on 02/11/2008, -2/+1That's the best comment I've read Indolentron. And you guys proved so much at that protest! ... >.>
- round427, on 02/11/2008, -2/+1There should be little icons that go next to Scientologists' names on Digg, like yours. Stop trying to be incognito; no one is fooled anymore.
- aceakm, on 02/11/2008, -1/+1That's just like when the Germans made the Jews wear the stars! You're a nazi, I see.

- ViperDaimao, on 02/11/2008, -12/+160cool protest. don't get why it's called a raid though.
- GhostToon, on 02/11/2008, -7/+141Raid sounds cooler and less hippiesh.
- tapo, on 02/11/2008, -10/+5That's what Anon calls all of the stuff they do 'IRL'. I don't know why.

- muniak, on 02/11/2008, -13/+5Lurk moar newfags.
- nepawoods, on 02/11/2008, -5/+8I'm guessing sarcasm (because I always give the benefit of the doubt), but the scary thing is that these 4channers actually think grunting phrases like that constitutes articulate expression of ideas. Imagine what it was like for a dozen or more of them to be out in fresh air, exposed to sunlight.
- duccodude, on 02/11/2008, -3/+4Thank you. I couldn't have said it better myself. Seriously, "lurk moar newfags?"
- muniak, on 02/11/2008, -0/+1The phrase means something, just like raids mean something. "Lurk moar newfag" is how to tell someone they are wrong or they are trying too hard and pretty much to spend moar time on the internet to understand it before they post again. =/

- fjmorgan, on 02/11/2008, -8/+6Well 4chan (and Something Awful, YTMND, Encyclopedia Dramatica and numerous other sites) have been doing "raids" for years, where they do something en masse to a website. For example, one of their most famous raids was when they raided Habbo Hotel, all with the same character and blocked all the pools off from use.
- mooseofshadows, on 02/11/2008, -3/+6Because it's done to get rid of pests.

- brodiquine, on 02/11/2008, -9/+66I drove by and honked. Nicely done anon.

Thats not a joke. Their tactics are the exact reason anon is protesting them today.

My local protest only had about 15 people, but I still saw some Scientologists filming them. Well done Anon.- jon30041, on 02/11/2008, -2/+20Good god I want riot gear...

- Palmer586, on 02/11/2008, -15/+2Is it just me that's getting deja vu?
Nobody else remember pretty much the same 'war' on Scientology by cDc way back in the mid '90s?
Still, good to see this time it's getting more notice, even if the hackers 'war' on Scientology is old hat now. - intotheforest, on 02/11/2008, -7/+12Check out the Milwaukee protest, huge crowd in -40 temp http://www.digg.com/politics/Huge_Scientology_prot ...
- rvandy, on 02/11/2008, -23/+5There are far, far more important things you could be spending your time and energy on other than scientology.
- Murdats, on 02/11/2008, -2/+7what are you spending your time on, no doubt its countless times more important than this?
- rvandy, on 02/11/2008, -7/+5Am I supposed to list my good deeds? I'm not an f-ing saint, I just don't see the point of all this anti-scientology fervor. Yes, it's a scam. Yes, it harms people. Anyone stupid enough to be duped by it, however, deserves to be taken. There are numberless organizations that harm people, but you don't see too many people protesting outside of the white house, cigarette manufacturers, defense contractors, or the like. Hating scientology is a fad that accomplishes absolutely NOTHING.
- meez, on 02/11/2008, -1/+5You ruin all the fun.
Buzzkiller. - GhostToon, on 02/11/2008, -0/+5People protest out site of the white house all the time. I see people protesting cigarettes all the time too. I am sure when people are protesting out side the white house or the capital it has to do with some of the things defense contractors do. You fail.
- chaddles, on 02/11/2008, -0/+6No one deserves to be brainwashed by scientology or any other dangerous scam based cult planning world domination.
Here's a parallel for you: subliminal advertising and false advertising. Does our society say that if you're stupid enough to fall for it, that's your problem? No, our society says this is unethical, and outlaws the practice. It's not even about intelligence - smart people are also susceptible to these sorts of dubious practices. And it's not about hate, either. No one deserves to be taken by Scientology.
Perhaps you'd feel differently if one of your family members joined up and "disconnected" from you. I'm glad there are enough people out there who believe that taking action on this cause is worthy of their time. - liquidpele, on 02/11/2008, -0/+4Oh yea, they deserve it alright. Until it's your friend, or your kid. ***** you.
You act like the scam part is obvious to the people that don't know about scientology. If it was, it wouldn't be a very good scam now would it? - Murdats, on 02/11/2008, -0/+3the main problem people have with it is it just doesnt screw the idiots it sucks in, scientology actively tries to exert its influence over government, society and anyone who dislikes it doing that.
if it was just another cult, fine. but dont be mistaken, it is a dangerous organisation, and if left alone and unchecked would be disastrous
- meez, on 02/11/2008, -1/+5You ruin all the fun.
- nubnub, on 02/11/2008, -1/+10Anonymous does not hate Scientology. Anonymous opposes censorship, they oppose Scientology suppressing freedom of speech. They oppose Scientology's violates of human rights. Anonymous believes they do not deserve to be tax free. They oppose the unneeded deaths caused by Scientology.
- rvandy, on 02/11/2008, -7/+5Am I supposed to list my good deeds? I'm not an f-ing saint, I just don't see the point of all this anti-scientology fervor. Yes, it's a scam. Yes, it harms people. Who are you to question what they feel is important. Pull your head out of your ass.

- KyleGoetz, on 02/11/2008, -1/+2I lived in Blanton my freshman year back in the day (2d floor), and I have to say: I'm sorry you have to put up with the worst of the honors dorms.

and most come without STD's ;) - Sogui, on 02/11/2008, -0/+2I lived in Jester as a Freshman, Blanton as a Sophomore...
I'm getting an apartment with a friend next year and they seem like luxury compared to the dorms.

- guyinjapan, on 02/11/2008, -1/+5Yeah - I'm in the Honors Quad too, in Andrews. This is right down the street - had a known about it, I would've been right out there with the rest of them! We have to do this again! I walk past that place every day and I can't stand it!
- Sogui, on 02/11/2008, -2/+3I'm at Blanton myself in the Honors Quad
- juicebag, on 02/11/2008, -27/+9This whole things is a big pile of fail. It's pointless to just stand around and protest Scientology. The vast majority of people who aren't Scientologists know that it's a load of ***** and would stay away from it without a stupid protest. And a person who is already a Scientologist won't be swayed by some people holding signs.
- nunu4u, on 02/11/2008, -3/+8You have never read history, I take it.
- NiftySwifty, on 02/11/2008, -9/+3Sorry, let me correct that for him: a bunch of idiotic losers from 4chan holding up signs aren't going to sway anyone...
- Lyph5, on 02/11/2008, -1/+7What it is going to do is turn those people who go "it's dumb who cares" into people who realize that it is a dangerous cult and it ruins lives. News coverage about a world wide coordinated protest will push people from not caring to being concerned. And you know it'll hurt the next Tom Cruise movie in the box office.
- NiftySwifty, on 02/11/2008, -2/+1I'll take that bet... let's see how Tom Cruise's next movie does. I guarantee you a few hundred losers blogging from their basements won't have much of an impact on the millions of middle aged house wives who are in love with Tom Cruise.
- nepawoods, on 02/11/2008, -4/+2It's frightening to think you might actually believe that crap. You're as brainwashed as any scientologist.

- NiftySwifty, on 02/11/2008, -9/+3Sorry, let me correct that for him: a bunch of idiotic losers from 4chan holding up signs aren't going to sway anyone...
- banmaster, on 02/11/2008, -2/+13The whole point is to raise awareness of $cientoilogy. And a good job has been done so far.
- pennvneff, on 02/11/2008, -3/+6Yes why even try if you going to fail anyways. Spoken like a true loser.
- zellis, on 02/11/2008, -2/+9One of the tenets of Scientology is that the Church is so goddamn awesome that nobody can stand up to them ever. Protests, and the Church's inability to stop them, help eat away at that perception of invulnerable perfection.
- nubnub, on 02/11/2008, -2/+5Lets see. They caused worldwide media attention. Spread the knowledge of Scientology's sickening actions. Mosts protests report handing out a CRAP load of fliers and pamphlets. They are opening the world's eyes to Scientology. You can not except the whole church organization to fall in 1 day. This is the beginning. People who know about the dangers of Scientology are more likely not to be sucked into being brainwashed. There are more events planned. THIS IS A GREAT WIN. for great justice and the good of mankind. Even if you tell ONE person about this you are helping.
- nepawoods, on 02/11/2008, -6/+3How many times are you going to copy and paste that same dull blurb? "People who know about the dangers of Scientology are more likely not to be sucked into being brainwashed." ... the people sucked in are mentally weak - it fills a need they have, and you aren't going to change that. And if you and all the other "for great justice" fools could only see yourselves as the world does, you wouldn't talk so much about those who are "sucked into being brainwashed".
- NiftySwifty, on 02/11/2008, -3/+1Hell yes, nepawoods, thank you for putting that so well! I couldn't agree more. Not only are they not really likely to ever reach the people who "need their eyes opened", I'm not sure they're doing any good whatsoever. If the potentially illegal acts (such as DDoS'ing and sending packets of white powder, etc) are investigated and publicized by the FBI, about the only thing Anon will have accomplished is to convince people Scientology is being persecuted by an internet based criminal group. And bring Scientology massive publicity in the process.

- NinjaPig, on 02/11/2008, -4/+20i saw it today morning, i went there at exactly 10:20 am and i saw that there were 3 White Vans and they were pretty ominously parked in front of the church(its right on the edge of campus). Most of the protestors weren't directly across it, but pretty soon the van with the banner came up and people were handing things out. It REALLY wasn't as eventful as I hoped it to be. But I was happy to see that the church was serious enough to park those three massive vans in front of the church.
Speaking of which can anyone here guess what the hell were in those three vans, besides warrior scientologists?- liquidpele, on 02/11/2008, -3/+19Can we refrain from calling it a "church" please? Scamhouse, headquarters, office, whatever. Not a church.
- zellis, on 02/11/2008, -1/+10Probably nothing. I think the most plausible explanation is that they were trying to block the view - make it difficult to see the protest from the street.
- Upsizer, on 02/11/2008, -0/+2You should have seen the spot after lunchtime. I visited around 2:00pm, and the area was full of protesters, complete with several cars honking consistently as they drove by.

- KyleGoetz, on 02/11/2008, -6/+16I'm pretty proud of how the Austin protest turned out. Over 100 people from a city of only 600K. ~3610, and still racking in numbers. No news on a ton of cities still. - sounds like quite a few people. especially for a group with no real leader.- Devaney, on 02/11/2008, -3/+43610-- isn't that around 1/3 of the people that dug this weeks most popular 'anon' article? (that's not taking into account the thousands of people that buried it either)...round it up to 4,000 (noticed you didn't include my city, milwaukee) and you've got yourself around .0013% of americans that care enough to protest scientology
- Devaney, on 02/11/2008, -7/+3seriously, how are you getting dug down? ... i count 16 people in the best picture, what a "raid!"
that should shut scientology right down.- linuxpenguin, on 02/11/2008, -1/+6If you take a picture in downtown Detroit you might only get 5 people in the picture. Hell depending on where you point the camera, you might get 0. That doesn't mean no one is in Detroit.
Likewise, 16 people in the picture doesn't mean there were only 16 people at the protest.- Devaney, on 02/11/2008, -6/+1wow, you're logic is very impressive...but the point of taking a picture illustrating a protest is not to just point the camera in a random direction and shoot, as you imply has been done here...the point is to AIM the camera at the GROUP of people who are GATHERED in the SMALL AREA surrounding the building that they are PROTESTING (you see, usually in a protest the goal is to CONGREGATE in the area of interest)
- DPyro, on 02/11/2008, -1/+4Kinda hard if they're wandering about, actively protesting rather than planting their ass for your camera's convenience.

How would people react if groups of Muslims turned out to protest Christian churches. - Mauly, on 02/11/2008, -0/+4So what is the way to go?

- dagnome1984, on 02/11/2008, -4/+4I don't see how it's any different than Christianity. Both are based on beliefs that have no basis in reality. If you want to be consistent in your message you would protest all religion because all religions are a scam.
- tizz66, on 02/11/2008, -1/+9I'd prefer it if no religion existed, but I think comparing Scientology with Christianity is a bit insulting to Christians (or Muslims or Jews or whatever). As far as I know, Christianity does not require that you cease contact with your family, nor pay huge sums to read the next page of the bible, nor have you shadowed wherever you go. Scientology is a cult. Christianity is a religion.
- dagnome1984, on 02/11/2008, -4/+4There are many sects of Christianity that do require you to break contact with your family. I don't see how there can really be a distinction between cult and religion when both require something from the indivdual (time, money, body) based on a false premise.

- dagnome1984, on 02/11/2008, -1/+6It does. False ideas need to be challenged.
- Lyph5, on 02/11/2008, -2/+6Was the Bible written by a science fiction writer? A writer who, on the record, said that the best way to become rich was to start a religion.
Yeah, it might look like religious persecution from a distance, but after watching a 45 second news clip on it becomes a group of people trying to stop a cult from hurting more people.- dagnome1984, on 02/11/2008, -5/+3Does not matter the bible is a work of fiction just like Scientology. Christianity hurts people with its indoctrination. People have to pay ten percent of their income or face the pits of hell.
- zellis, on 02/11/2008, -0/+3Disagree that it's the same. The protestors were not religiously motivated the way Muslims protesting a Christian church (or vice versa) would be.
- dagnome1984, on 02/11/2008, -2/+2They should protest against Muslims and Christians also. Those religions are full of scamers.
- csrussell, on 02/12/2008, -0/+0It's not religious persecution. If it was Christians eliminating, framing, and harming their members as well as "suppressive persons", and muslims showed up and began PEACEFULLY protesting outside, I would say F^$&in' rock on. A peaceful protest is the only right way to do this. Scientologists of course are more than happy to call it bigotry and persecution of course. But honestly, nobody cares what they choose to believe. They have that right. But, what they;ve done is wrong and unacceptable. They are a money grubbing cult.
- Mauly, on 02/11/2008, -0/+4So what is the way to go?
- PrettyBoyFloyd, on 02/11/2008, -7/+101This really takes me back. I'm a Texas Ex (Class of 1983) and I remember back when the Church of Scientology rented a building a few blocks away on Nueces, just down the street from where I lived. They purchased the building on Guadalupe a year or so later. I used to work at a McDonalds' on Guadalupe down the street (not the one in Dobie Mall, but one further north that no longer exists), and lots of Scientologists would come in for burgers on almost a daily basis. They were generally very nice and friendly folks, but a couple of them were committed vegetarians who would order Big Macs without any meat. They always ordered burgers and coffee. Kind of weird, but they were very, very nice and smiled all the time. One day, after my last class, they came up to me as I was walking home to strike up a conversation about Dianetics, and I decided to take their Personality Test at the Church offices on Nueces. It was a fairly long and involved multiple choice test and after I finished it, they took the paper and analyzed it for almost half an hour while I sat in their very comfortable sunken lobby next to a friendly, inviting fireplace and began doing my homework. They offered me free soft drinks and snacks and made sure I was comfortable while I waited. When they were ready to speak to me again, they said that the results of my test indicated that I was terribly depressed and probably suicidal and I really needed to be audited to be truly healthy. Scientology, they said, was the key to my survival.
I was quite surprised, since I wouldn't have bothered doing the thing at all if I hadn't been in a very good mood at the time (that afternoon, a girl I was interested in had accepted an invitation to join me at a Judas Priest concert, so I was ecstatically happy, and walking on clouds all the way from class).
I realized then and there that Scientology was total crap, but they kept coming back at me to remind me that I'd insisted that I was a free thinker with an open mind and willing to listen to all viewpoints, so I couldn't get out of there without buying a copy of Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health .
I did read it, just to say that I had actually studied Scientology. I had also read some other books Hubbard wrote (Fear, Typewriter in the Sky, and some other of his better-known short stories from Astounding Science Fiction back in the 1940s).
I will give Hubbard credit for being a very astute judge of human nature, and a skillful manipulator of weak minds. It's interesting to see how some of Hubbard's ideas were later adapted by Werner Erhard for his est training and Bob Trask for his ARAS (Acceptance, Respect, Affection, Support) seminars, but overall, Scientology was just what Hubbard told the science fiction community back in the 1950s: if you ever want to be a millionaire, forget writing science fiction books, and start your own religion.- pennvneff, on 02/11/2008, -37/+8***** reading all that

- KyleGoetz, on 02/11/2008, -0/+20Thanks for your comments, fellow Texas Ex (class of 2006). It was nice to see a little bit of the history of the Cult in Austin. My freshman year in college, a Daily Texan reporter took the test, watched their videos, and discovered a passageway connecting the Scientology area to Le Fun (RIP). He then proposed that Le Fun was a Scientology front to brainwash people via arcade games or something.
It was a pretty neat, and humorous article at the same time.- kitsune361, on 02/11/2008, -0/+0I miss Le Fun... :^(

the Job application was wierd many questions like " do you feel nervous around children" or "is there any history of mental illness in your family"

- csrussell, on 02/12/2008, -0/+0I must say, that's quite creepy. I thought about going into the CoS my freshman year just to see what was inside and laugh it off. I had an idea of what they were about at the time and found it hilarious. Not long after though, I found out about all the dark things they had done and was just too creeped out to do it. Not unless I'm with a group of friends would I dare enter there. I'm glad you're not as "open-minded" as they were. Hook 'em.
- insobox, on 02/11/2008, -4/+6Epic Win, so sad I had to work. Otherwise I would have so been there.
- adooga, on 02/11/2008, -14/+6It really looks like 6 or 7 kids and a van with a banner on it. Was there more to it? have I missed something?
- KyleGoetz, on 02/11/2008, -0/+4There were at least 100. I counted at one point when I walked by NOT PARTICIPATING and stopped at 100. More arrived after that, but some left as well. 100 is a good estimate for the turnout.
- adooga, on 02/11/2008, -0/+3I see, it's just that the pics seemed to be all of the same half a dozen people. I withdraw and apologise.

- LoudLoudNoise, on 02/11/2008, -10/+0Oh snap I was in the area on Friday. Unfortunately I just ignored the place like I always do and got some curry from Pho's. Mmm, curry.
- Devaney, on 02/11/2008, -1/+4oh snap? seriously?!
- LoudLoudNoise, on 02/11/2008, -3/+0Seriously!

- Light11, on 02/11/2008, -7/+12*****, you guys are sooooo cool.
- bluedemon31, on 02/11/2008, -6/+1These so called raids are nothing more than marches/protest. I say its time to start incorporating pipe bombs, molotavs, home-made napalm, shock rods. These easily made tools are sure to make an impact on the CoS.
- ZulmericronX, on 02/11/2008, -1/+2Stop being an *****. Violence is cool, right?
- bluedemon31, on 02/11/2008, -2/+1Well... ***** You.
- fightforyou, on 02/11/2008, -1/+1Anon does not want to become terrorists, like the news sometimes falsely accuses them of being.
