The List of Things That Offend Muslims
amboytimes.typepad.com — '' The intent of the list is to illustrate the futility of the multicultural approach to Islam. Sharia law demands submission not only from Muslims, but from non-Muslims as well...The examples below serve as reminder that submitting to one complaint or another only emboldens Muslims to seek to further their ultimate goal of establishing sharia.

- Roger, on 02/23/2008, -37/+113I think you mean *extremist* Muslims. Also I'm pretty sure all Muslims don't follow Sharia Law.
Then again maybe I'm wrong and Dave Chappelle is just waiting for an excuse to lop off your head.- cageybee, on 02/23/2008, -28/+12there is no such thing as "extrimist muslims." there are extremists who happened to be muslims.
- MikedaSnipe, on 02/23/2008, -7/+8Somebody fails at knowing what the word extremist means.
This makes me fail at knowing what the **** he is refering to.
Stop automatically pouring politically correct statements out of your mouth, ok?- cageybee, on 02/23/2008, -8/+11how many millions are muslims in the world? how many of them are extremists??? is it fair for the whole religion to be labeled as extremists?
- Makaveli604, on 02/23/2008, -7/+6so because we label a small group as extremists there is no such thing as an extremist muslim
your logic is ***** terrible.- Waiting2awake, on 02/23/2008, -4/+7and do you understand that what you claim about Muslims can equally be leveled against Christians, and Jews, and Hindu's, and.........
Stop letting people use your fear to divide you from your brother. - cageybee, on 02/23/2008, -2/+2muslims are not extremists. and there is not a separate religion of extremist muslims.
just say extremists without attaching "muslim"

- smacksaw, on 02/23/2008, -3/+13You must have had the craziest teachers. Every time I see you post it's like drinking milk that you can't quite tell if it's bad or not.
If I was your teacher, I would ask myself constantly where I went wrong with you because you can take the simplest concepts and somehow sour them in your own special way.- uncltim, on 02/23/2008, -4/+4Regardless of context, this is the best verbal beating I've ever read. Thanks...
- smacksaw, on 02/23/2008, -6/+34I have a Digg experiment. Let's vote.
Extremist Muslims
Muslim Extremists
If they are the same thing, Digg me up. If they are different, Digg me down. It's the cageybee logic test. Are they the same? Or does repositioning the word "extremest" as a prefix/suffix somehow change the meaning? Let's find out.- TheTaoOfBill, on 02/23/2008, -1/+2I pretty much agree with what he is saying but I also think that there is no difference between those two statements. The only thing I raise a stink about is when people fail to use the word extremist. It really isn't all Muslims that do this *****. Americanized Muslims are better but maybe it's because as someone else told me earlier today that Muslims in America are better because for the most part we don't put up with their *****. This is a free country and we don't submit to the laws of any religion.
But that just proves to me what Muslims can be peaceful. It's just if they are raised in ***** up regions like the middle-east they tend to let their religion control them into doing ***** up things.
It's really a sad story for the entire region. Not just the Muslims. - pintomp3, on 02/23/2008, -2/+2it's not a logic test, it's a popularity contest.
- MacEnvy, on 02/23/2008, -2/+2I almost always disagree with smacksaw, but I dugg him up for this one.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 02/23/2008, -1/+2I pretty much agree with what he is saying but I also think that there is no difference between those two statements. - MikedaSnipe, on 02/23/2008, -7/+8Somebody fails at knowing what the word extremist means.
- MikedaSnipe, on 02/23/2008, -19/+23Sharia law is based on the Qur'an, so I'm just gonna take a blind guess and say sharia law is ideal to most muslims. Its the third most common legal system in the world, the most common religious system as well. Although western societies see places that enforce sharia law as "Extremist", so many muslims live in those countries its hardly an extreme if anybody is thinking that.
However, if you took what he said (offends muslims) and thought that he meant 100% of muslims, you fail at implications.- smacksaw, on 02/23/2008, -7/+13Here, let me fix that for you:
Western Law, a combination of civil and common law that is intertwined with it's roots in canon law is peripherally-based on Leviticus, so I'm just gonna take a blind guess and say laws based upon Leviticus are ideal to most Christians. Secular civil/common law with roots based upon canon law is the most common legal system in the world, the most common religious system as well. Although western societies see places that enforce Leviticus as "Extremist", so many Christians live in those countries its hardly an extreme if anybody is thinking that.
However, if I took what you said (about the logical step from Qur'an to Sharia) and thought that we want anything to do with religious/canon law, you fail at implications.
All better now.
- smacksaw, on 02/23/2008, -7/+13Here, let me fix that for you:
- Himself, on 02/23/2008, -12/+11There are only two "kinds" of muslims: muslims and apostate muslims. All non-damaged people seek the good. Those born into Islam undoubtedly try to avoid the insanity and extensive mutual contradictions of teaching and live good, loving lives... but those are apostate muslims by definition.
Good people != good muslims- ramo13, on 02/23/2008, -2/+10Did you know that in Nebraska, you can be arrested if your son burps during a church service ?
- Waiting2awake, on 02/23/2008, -4/+10None sense, only Muslims are extreme.
I've read it somewhere. - Rustymetal, on 02/23/2008, -2/+3Would you actually get arrested? No.
Burp while they pray to Alla they will take your head off at the very least. - ad33lshahid, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2Atleast your comments are based on factual evidence and not mere conjecture that is extrapolated from your incredibly uninformed perception of muslims
/sarcasm
- Waiting2awake, on 02/23/2008, -4/+10None sense, only Muslims are extreme.
- OtterOwnage, on 02/23/2008, -2/+5Someone has been fed on lies all these years... its the kind of people like you (on both sides) that make bridges to the Muslim world impossible.
- Himself, on 02/24/2008, -0/+3You've apparently purchased the age old "bridge".
- ramo13, on 02/23/2008, -2/+10Did you know that in Nebraska, you can be arrested if your son burps during a church service ?
- n0t0kayipr0mis3, on 02/23/2008, -12/+29I'm a Muslim and i don't hate anything on this list.
Buried as inaccurate. :D
Don't follow the media and learn about other cultures, every religion has extremists and complete idiots who think they can justify their inhumane actions by pointing to the sky.- pintomp3, on 02/23/2008, -5/+14i'm a muslim too and if diggers think that the actions of a few crazies accurately reflect the views of 1.6 billion, who am i to argue? i will have to also assume that all christians want to kill abortion doctors, stem cell researchers, gays, and people who eat shrimp.
- deadcrickets, on 02/23/2008, -2/+1Damn those gay, aborting, stem cell researching people who eat shrimp... hey! It's a pig in people's clothes! hehehehe!
- pintomp3, on 02/23/2008, -5/+14i'm a muslim too and if diggers think that the actions of a few crazies accurately reflect the views of 1.6 billion, who am i to argue? i will have to also assume that all christians want to kill abortion doctors, stem cell researchers, gays, and people who eat shrimp.
- 141592653589793, on 02/23/2008, -8/+3why do they list "ham sandwiches served in jail"? i thought part of being in jail was you're supposed to be *punished*, and being forced to eat non-halal food seems fitting ...
- Calcularius, on 02/23/2008, -3/+1http://www.dnahelices.com/noreligion/noreligion.jp ...
- kara1234, on 02/23/2008, -6/+10I agree. Buried as Inaccurate.
- oxdeltaxo, on 02/23/2008, -3/+7I've stated this before, if in a Muslim country I will behave accordingly to their law and customs. In my country they'd better learn that many of their rules no longer apply and I no longer have to worry about offending them. Sadly I don't care what pisses Muslims off and I don't care I offend one. I'm sure that we can all agree that if we suck it up we can get along and stop being babies.
- Roger, on 02/23/2008, -1/+1So you're saying anyone who immigrates to another country should immediately drop their customs and beliefs?
What do you think the world would be like if everyone thought like that?- oxdeltaxo, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1No I'm saying that upon entering my country I don't have to adhear to your customs or beliefs no matter how much you want me too, because I don't believe the same way you do. In another country the case may be different because of fundamentalist law. I'm tolerant not accepting or embracing.
- Roger, on 02/23/2008, -1/+1So you're saying anyone who immigrates to another country should immediately drop their customs and beliefs?
- erexsha, on 02/23/2008, -4/+2I don't understand! what does it mean to say just *extremist* Muslims are fallowing Sharia Law? Either they are Muslim and they fallow Islam's law (Sharia Law) or not.
- Roger, on 02/23/2008, -1/+2Let me elaborate on my example for you:
Dave Chappelle is a Muslim. Dave Chappelle doesn't follow Sharia Law. Hence all Muslims do not follow Sharia Law. QED.- desertdweller, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1But Islam IS Sharia Law. Therefore Dave Chappelle is not Muslim.
- Roger, on 02/23/2008, -1/+2Let me elaborate on my example for you:
- noahtron, on 02/23/2008, -1/+1FTA: "The West needs to come to grips with this fact and start standing up for our God-given rights of free speech, free expression and freedom of religion, lest we surrender those rights to a theocratic movement bent on removing our Constitutional freedoms that we hold dear. "
theocratic movements threaten to remove our god-given rights? that sounds a little funny to me...
- cageybee, on 02/23/2008, -28/+12there is no such thing as "extrimist muslims." there are extremists who happened to be muslims.
- superPipo, on 02/23/2008, -99/+166It will be easier to make a list of what the muslims DON'T hate:
1) Polygamy
2) Camels
3) Blowing up innocent people to make a point- amrhassan, on 02/23/2008, -53/+26you're an ass and you don't know jack about what you're talking about
- PATSCRU, on 02/23/2008, -44/+54a list of things superPipo doesn't hate:
1) racism- sk11, on 02/23/2008, -10/+46How are muslims a race, are christians a race too?
- Waiting2awake, on 02/23/2008, -5/+14 This isn't about race - nor is it about religion. It is about power, and control. The powers that be just use divisive ideals like religion and race to divide you from your brother. To instill fear and distrust. Stop letting them.
Speak to as many Muslims as you can find. You will see that they, like everyone else, have mainly great, honourable, friendly people - but also some really strange, whacked out people that think they can control others.
Just like all people from all regions of the planet. Just ask yourself who has hurt you more? Your government or people from another country?- sk11, on 02/23/2008, -8/+5Do not condescend to me as if I were ignorant and/or American. My government ***** bricks at the thought of offending muslims. I have probably met just as many practising muslims as practising christians. I know full well what I'm talking about.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 02/23/2008, -3/+6I live 15 miles from Dearborn MI. Muslim capital of the United States. I go to school with Muslims. I eat with Muslims. I see Muslims every day.
I can tell you that they are no different than any other religion and Waiting is exactly right. Stop spreading your ignorant *****. Unless you live with Muslims on a daily basis you have no clue what you are talking about.
It's the middle east that is violent and oppressive. Not the religion. The religion is at peace with the region is at peace. - clclark33, on 02/23/2008, -2/+1I visit a local Muslim owned business and have discussed many things with the owner because I was curious about Islamic culture from a Muslim and not the news. He doesn't seem to be overtly harmful or want to kill me. However, he did insist that it is justified to have a death sentence for adultery. It makes sense to me.... your wife cheats on you, kill her. Why not?
Note: He's a super nice guy and I enjoy conversations with him... I just don't want that culture and religion running things. (I don't want ANY religion running things.)
- TheTaoOfBill, on 02/23/2008, -5/+4I don't know how many times I have to say it. Race includes religion. Look it up.
Princeton University's WordNet defines a racist as
"2. discriminatory especially on the basis of race or religion "
Merriam Webster defines race as
"a class or kind of people unified by shared interests, habits, or characteristics"
Stop excusing your racism by claiming it's called something else.
Muslims are not violent. The region muslims live in is violent.
When Muslims live in a region that is at peace for many years they will also be at peace.- surasshu, on 02/23/2008, -3/+6You mean like Denmark?
- BubbaBubberson, on 02/23/2008, -2/+2"The region muslims live in is violent."
What makes the region violent? - TheTaoOfBill, on 02/23/2008, -2/+3The large Majority of Muslims in Denmark are 1st generation immigrants and refugees from middle eastern nations.
It's unfortunate but often refugees and immigrants from violent regions bring violence with them. I doubt their children will be as violent and their grandchildren probably won't give a *****. - smotpoker, on 02/23/2008, -2/+4"What makes the region violent?"
U.S. Military presence? - sk11, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1"I don't know how many times I have to say it. Race includes religion. Look it up."
Race and racism pertain to ethnic divisions, not ideological ones. Otherwise you end up with absurd situations, such as someone converting to islam and therefore changing race. Also are atheists a race? Is anon racist towards scientology?
"Princeton University's WordNet defines a racist as
"2. discriminatory especially on the basis of race or religion"
Merriam Webster defines race as
"a class or kind of people unified by shared interests, habits, or characteristics""
So republican supporters are a race, stamp collectors are a race, and horse breeders too? This becomes absurd to the point of farce! Are big eared people a race too, how about fat people? When the term racism is watered down this much, it loses all meaning, we might as well just use the term evil-doer or call anyone we disagree with terrorists.
"Stop excusing your racism by claiming it's called something else."
Stop claiming everything you disagree with is racism, this becomes tiresome, I have not said anything racist. Criticising islam is akin to criticising scientology or a political ideology. Is criticising christianity considered racist?
"It's unfortunate but often refugees and immigrants from violent regions bring violence with them. I doubt their children will be as violent and their grandchildren probably won't give a *****."
So why are the grandchildren of muslim immigrants to Britain more prone to extremism and religious violence?
- Waiting2awake, on 02/23/2008, -5/+14 This isn't about race - nor is it about religion. It is about power, and control. The powers that be just use divisive ideals like religion and race to divide you from your brother. To instill fear and distrust. Stop letting them.
- DarkDx, on 02/23/2008, -5/+8You're so ignorant.
- Enendar, on 02/23/2008, -3/+2No I'll go out on a limb and say its ignorant not to criticize religions who have stupid taboos. The penalty for leaving Islam is death! And some how its ignorant for some of us to mock this religion? I say ***** that, we need more people who are willing to say that some of these beliefs are stupid because a lot of the are.
- NachoBusiness, on 02/23/2008, -5/+9Your religion != your race
- juicebag, on 02/23/2008, -2/+5Technicalities.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 02/23/2008, -1/+5Merriam Webster defines race as

"2. discriminatory especially on the basis of race or religion "
You're wrong.
- mearom, on 02/23/2008, -6/+10Americans dont seem to mind killing innocent people either, just look at Iraq, and of course muslims are pissed, Israelis are bombing them back to the stone age with our bombs
- pintomp3, on 02/23/2008, -1/+4patscru: i would say bigotry is more accurate in this case.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3As if there is that big of a difference.
- pintomp3, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3there isn't. but when you say racism, the islamophobes and anti-semites are quick to point out that being muslim or jewish isn't a race, as if that makes it ok.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3As if there is that big of a difference.
- smotpoker, on 02/23/2008, -1/+3Depends on the religion. Any group of people who intermarry for a few generations would be considered a race eventually.
People can be Jewish without being Jews, as they can be a Jew without being Jewish but either way they are still Jews
It boils down to how the people and those who perceive them decide to consider them. Considering how many of you choose to think of Muslims as not being human or worthy of any consideration, and not welcome/embraced and how most Muslims are of similar descent, I don't see any problem with classifying them as a race.
And for the record, racism isn't the only form of bigotry - Most of you seem to be rather bad bigots.
- sk11, on 02/23/2008, -10/+46How are muslims a race, are christians a race too?
- xTRUMANx, on 02/23/2008, -31/+30Sad to see superPipo dugg up when he said Muslims don't hate blowing up people to prove a point. I truly hope that he just got a head start with the diggs from retards and will soon enough be buried into oblivion.
- Waiting2awake, on 02/23/2008, -13/+13 Nope - fear rules all. Most of these people have never even seen a Muslim, let alone spoke to one, let alone tried to form a relationship with them. Too bad, but as I said - Fear rules them.
- Worldviewsblog, on 02/23/2008, -20/+18What is the point of such hatred? How can someone whose government just wiped off the face of the earth a million Iraqis -- primarily Muslim if that's relevant to you --be so self-righteous about "blowing up innocent people?"
superPipo: Those are rhetorical questions, so please don't try to answer them. Watching you froth at the mouth will make me lose my lunch.- IslandDog, on 02/23/2008, -7/+5Million Iraqis....listening to the New York Times again.

1) watermelons
2) fried chicken
3 ) self victimization to get freebies
(I honest, don't know or care if your black, either way you'd be offended) - BaronSamedi242, on 02/23/2008, -3/+7You forgot ***** nine year old girls (but only if you marry them when they're six - ) RIGHT MOHAMMED?
If you haven't heard the story, her name was Ayisha - the Islamic Prophet's younger wife. He was in his 50s at the time.- smotpoker, on 02/23/2008, -2/+2YOU forgot 1000 years of catholic priests enslaving, burning at the stake, arranging these exact same types of marriages AND molesting little boys which still goes on today
I guess that makes all christians pedophilemurdertorturers (since many people consider Catholicism a variation of christianity)
(I'll conveniently leave out the hundreds of years of christian, not just catholic, -sanctioned slavery and racism. Not just by KKK, who only came around the last couple of centuries when slavery was made illegal. I'm talking at least 500 years before that when nearly ALL christians did it)
Don't hate on these people for not yet discovering what christians were FORCED to accept over 100 years of blood and war. They say true intellecutual progress is primarily attained through prosperity - environments where most people have enough food/shelter to go around. Most Arab countries aren't quite at that point yet (in large part due to U.S. [-sanctioned] terrorism and unwillingness of american people to give up $ for anything other than SUV gas and trendy clothes and weapons)- BaronSamedi242, on 02/24/2008, -0/+2Oh believe me, when the topic is Catholicism, I will have my share of invective against that faith. But what does this have to do with the fact that Muslims worship a pedophile? Just a question. I'll hate on whoever I ***** please, especially when they threaten me and my way of life.
And if you hate slavery, please discuss this with the Muslims. Slavery has been abolished in the Christian world. It thrives today in the Muslim one.
- BaronSamedi242, on 02/24/2008, -0/+2Oh believe me, when the topic is Catholicism, I will have my share of invective against that faith. - Kythas, on 02/23/2008, -7/+12That's because chopping people's heads off does not offend Muslims. In fact, they chant "allah akbhar" while they're doing it.
The equivalent would be a group of Christian extremists chopping off people's heads and chanting "Praise Jesus!" while doing it. Wow, talk about the international outrage and condemnation if that ever happened. I'm sure the UN would even fire off one of its statements of protest.
- axkel, on 02/23/2008, -40/+27how come everytime a muslim takes a piss its a news story? And then you got the long list of anti-muslim aholes relishing it in it. Its like some sort of self esteem building program for redknecks.
- KLowD9x, on 02/23/2008, -6/+3It's "rednecks".
You should know how to spell that, seeing as how you are one. - InRussetShadows, on 02/23/2008, -2/+4You're quite a piece of work if you think that being opposed to Islam means that you are a redneck. Bat Yeor, for instance, is hardly a redneck. Get a perspective.
- KLowD9x, on 02/23/2008, -6/+3It's "rednecks".

While you're at it, please tell me where I can find Jews that follow the Old Testament to the letter. And if I had more time I'd do this myself, but I suggest that you look at your quote in its full context. A lot of the Old Testament examples are stories about specific events and not instructions for all believers to follow. - Kythas, on 02/24/2008, -0/+3I can't speak for Jews, not being one, but Christians generally regard the New Testament as superceding the Old Testament in doctrinal law. If the Old Testament said to sacrifice goats to God but that same sacrifice is not required in the New Testament, then the New Testament takes precedence.
So, in short, no. Christians don't believe in stoning women whose virginity is suspect. Thanks for playing and your consolation prize is in the mail. Expect 6-9 weeks for delivery.

- gbarger, on 02/23/2008, -0/+4There is a difference in the foundation of Christianity and Islam though. Christ was an extremely peaceful man that taught about love, and was murdered because he claimed he was the son of God. Mohammad was an extraordinarily violent man. This is a fact. Throughout history, people have used religious reasons to support their violence (crusades) to try to achieve the end that they wanted, but you do need to study history to see what's par for the course over a long period of time. You really need to study the history of Islam to find out how disturbing it really is. In nations that are open and relatively free, Islam will start a movement claiming that they should be allowed to practice their beliefs based upon religious freedom. Once Islam is a majority religion in the nation they take over the national legal system and replace it with fascist Islamic law. You can see this in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Learn a little bit of history. In a country with a majority Jewish/Christian/Buddhist/Taoist/pick your religion except Scientology they don't take over the land claiming to be peace loving and then start killing other people for their beliefs.

What about the nutbags at westboro baptist church that are horrible to people that have lost loved ones to war or aids with their stupid "God hates fags" signs, or even Christians that believe in the death penalty when Christ clearly illustrates in the Bible that everyone is guilty of sinning when the pharisees are trying stone a woman for committing adultery. There are clearly a LOT of extremist Christian beliefs that don't even have anything to do with the bible.
- clclark33, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2You also forget the concept of Grace. The primary difference between Christianity and Islam is that Christians have a New Testament in which Christ changed the rules a bit. I believe you may remember an often quote statement from the guy... "let he who is without sin cast the first stone." I've long left my Southern Baptist upbringing, but that has allowed me to see the differences in religions and belief systems. Most are harmless, unless they control unwilling subjects through government enforced power or terror.

- MattBD, on 02/23/2008, -2/+1Exactly. I saw a routine by the British-Iranian standup comic Omid Djalili, last year, where he said about the portrayal of Muslims in the West. An extremist like Abu Hamza al-Masri is often portrayed as the voice of the majority, which he compared to having the Ku Klux Klan representing the views of all Christians.
Extremism in any belief system is dangerous. To take the views of the extremists as the views of the majority is a big mistake.

Could it be that Islamophobia is based in a sort of envy? For Islam painfully reminds us of what we lack. It highlights our lack of faith in our common values. We envy the unitary vision of Islam, its fusion of politics and religion.

Do I envy their "faith" in it? No. I envy the doing of it, not the belief in the unknown.
I respect religion, and I certainly find it amazing that people can have strength through faith in the unknown, but I do not envy people who find common ground based upon faith instead of reason and deep thought of consequences. The KKK finds brotherhood based upon misconceptions about blacks, Jews, Christians, etc. Their faith leads to hate.
I envy people who can come together for common values IN SPITE OF faith and do it because of reason and self-preservation as well as knowing that by making a society where everyone can be happy you make a society that is full of people who don't get in your way but stay out of your way or help you out.

- ryuujin, on 02/23/2008, -2/+6The point has been made several times in this page, but I'll make it again because some people don't get the basic concept -- you can't take the opinions of multiple subsets of a group and apply it to the entire group, especially when that group is large and well distributed.
If I simply added up everything that offended 'Americans' by asking each one 'does this offend you?' and combining the entire list i'd have a pretty crazy list of stuff, because there's 300 million people and each one has a different idea of what's okay. I can't say that 'americans find these things offensive' without finding out how MANY do. If not a majority do, then it's not true.
What this guy has done is taken links from everywhere about muslims who find stuff offensive without finding out how MANY do, so the whole list is entirely unreliable. Just because certain things may be right to certain people does not mean it's right to all people.

- KLowD9x, on 02/23/2008, -5/+13You find this offensive?
Can someone update the list? - gbjxc, on 02/23/2008, -3/+1Listing opposition to the Annapolis talks as being offended by Jews is certainly misleading and distorted. I can't see protesting against Annapolis being vaguely connected to Muslims being "offended by Jews." It's more an issue of a corrupt, coup-installed PA negotiating with an oppressive Israeli government over the heads of the Palestinian people and the government they elected. If we're concerned with "spreading democracy" in the Middle East, we should think about that one for a second...
- jcm267, on 02/23/2008, -2/+8Why is it when people list things that offend fundamentalist Christians people don't say "Well I know people who don't take everything they hear at church literally"? Islam is fundamentally a more dangerous religion, its followers are usually much more devout than Christians are, and part of Islam's teachings is to lie to unbelievers about what they really think so unless you're good friends with these people you really don't know for sure what these people are thinking.
- KMye, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3If this list had been titled "Things that offend *fundmamentalist* Muslims", there's a good chance I would have dugg it. I have no illusions or delusions about which fundamentalist segment of each religion is a larger percentage of the overall group worldwide (here in the US, it could be a pretty close race), which fundamentalist segment is a bigger threat to the world (though that's not to say I'm not worried about the influence fundamentalist evangelists have been having recently on the US), and so on and so forth.
The main two people I was thinking of in my original comment, a guy and girl, are extremely good friends, though, as I said, they're only as Muslim as a lot Christians here are Christian. Maybe it would be best to call them "non-practicing". I know they're not lying because, aside from knowing them very truly anyway, I've done many things on many occasions with both of them that probably would have us all killed in Saudi Arabia.
The first time I met the girl's parents was me driving down to pick up the girl to go away for a weekend (strictly a friendly affair). Both parents are fairly traditional (but not fundamentalist) practicing Muslims. What did they do when some young guy came alone, without a heads up I found out, to pick up their beautiful daughter and go away for a few days? Honor kill me? Beat their daughter? They cooked a big dinner on the spot, best chicken I've ever had, and the father put off praying until after dinner because the daughter said we had to get going before it was dark. Every time I've seen them since, they've consistently been some of the most genuinely warm, welcoming, genuinely tolerant people I've met. While this family is the finest example in my experience, they're not the only ones.
You know I'm not a kumbaya hippy or fundamental Islam apologist, but it really does offend me when people use "Muslim" as shorthand for "Fundamentalist Muslim" or worse, as equivalent to that. It's just not true.

This should be called "The List Of Things That Offend Emotionally, Spiritually and Mentally Unstable Muslims But Has No Meaning For The Average Muslim Who Is Just As Offended By This As Westerners PS Learning About Islam From Bill O'Reilly Is A Bad Idea"- sk11, on 02/23/2008, -10/+3I think it's hilarious that one ignorant American can speak for the entirety of western society.
- carpespasm, on 02/23/2008, -6/+6Man, I had to double check through that Amboy guy's site, I was so hoping he wasn't from the US, but he apparently is. He also appears to be a total idiot. To those outside the US, please don't paint myself and other rational Americans with as wide a brush as Amboy paints both extreme and rational Muslims. Extremists of any nationality, religious creed, or other societal grouping shouldn't be seen as indicative of the group the associate themselves with as a whole.
- redmonkey, on 02/23/2008, -7/+22WE could see millions of muslims protesting cartoons, but we could not see millions of muslims protesting terrorism. All muslims countries(except 2, Bosnia and Malaysia) refuse to accept resolution condemning suicide bombing.
Only 20 brave muslims participated in London demonstation in support of English teacher arrested in Sudan.
And could you please explain this fact: If general muslim population against terrorism, why Muslim student association always protesting when former terrorists are diven speaches against terrorism at USA college?
- linuxrocks2007, on 02/23/2008, -2/+5Where you getting the MSA facts?
- redmonkey, on 02/23/2008, -4/+2Read internet.
- smacksaw, on 02/23/2008, -1/+5We need look only in the mirror. Who are the masses supporting Obama? The passionate few behind Ron Paul? People who are disenfranchised. People who feel left out.
If your life is going well and you're happy with society, are you out there being an activist? No.
As far as condemning terrorism goes, while that's a good point, it's one you should make with MORE supporting evidence. You see, you're taking it out of context. Let me give you some examples.
Much of the Muslim world considers George Bush a terrorist. Here's where da-Republican-head-assplode. If they condemn terrorism are they condemning Bush? Yes. But wait...no one in the Muslim world supports the Americans being there. Or do they?
Whether it's legal war, illegal war, jihad, guerilla war - whatever. It's all terrorism. Perhaps they have a less delusional and hypocritical view of conflict than we do. One man's freedom fighter is another's traitorous insurgent. War=terror. If one fights a war to protect oneself, they are engaging in SOME sort of terrorism. If we listened to the Muslim world, this is what they are telling us.
I'd like to take credit for this analogy and come out looking smart, but I'm just repeating their logic. They are not going to repudiate what they feel is the only legitimate method of self-defence they have, nor are they going to make excuses. It's hard as an American to accept being called a "terrorist" by anyone, especially after 9/11. But this isn't rhetoric. This is a widely-held belief. If we listen and change our actions we change their perceptions by changing their reality.
So in summary, what we define terrorism to be is a narrow label. Our founding fathers were insurgent terrorists according to loyalists and the British. Yet they are our heroes. No American would deny that.- redmonkey, on 02/23/2008, -1/+1There is some common facts that define terrorism. I am personally disagree with this concept "One man freedom fighter is other man terrorist" If you blow up bases, dance club, blow up bomb on city square, intentionally firing rocket to residential area, intentionally targeting civilian you are terrorist even your goal is noble one. Our founding father did not blow up houses in London, did not intentionally kill civilian, your logic has some flow here.
- knde, on 02/23/2008, -10/+9Well put Smacksaw....but this is Digg where Extremist Muslims = Muslims!
Members of any religion would find somethings on that list offensive, just as non-religious people would also possibly find things on that list offensive.
*Sigh* Buried. - flip2trip, on 02/23/2008, -2/+1why is there never any Muslim outrage over anything "extremeists" say or do--because the Koran expressly condons killing all non-muslims who do not convert, and anyone who speaks against the tenets of Islam.
- jayjee, on 02/23/2008, -1/+0The popular response to issues like this is to immediately throw religious people into two camps: "okay" and "extremist." Not only is this classification entirely subjective and arbitrary, but it's meaningless and fallable. Both the Bible and the Koran condone killing innocent people in the name of God's faith-based existence. All religious texts are the supposed word of God. To not follow these words to a T is to sin and to be a "bad [INSERT RELIGION HERE]."
Call yourself a Muslim but don't pray 5 times a day? Well, simply, you're not a Muslim. And just because you don't disrupt your school or work day by exessive prayer or by flying planes into buildings doesn't make you an "okay Muslim."
Why? First of all, again, you are not a Muslim if you are not following the words of your deity. Second, there is no such thing as an "okay Muslim" (or Christian, or whatever). It's these same people who are not Muslims (that call themselves Muslims) that create the context in which we cannot criticize Muslim--or Christian--faith. We all have "Christian" or "Muslim" friends that are peaceful. We all have "Christian" or "Muslim" friends who are OK with evolution. We all have "Christian" or "Muslim" friends who don't do all of these terrible things that the bad, bad Muslim "extremists" did on 9/11. The fact is, these people aren't what they claim to be. Get real--There is no such thing as an "okay religion."
Flying planes into buildings (i.e. the physical violence from religion) is only a drop in the bucket when it comes to the problems that religion causes. Christians believe that HPV is useful in preventing premarital sex. In the 21st century, the Catholic church claimed there were tiny holes in condoms that were just big enough for the AIDS virus to fit through.
Stop the "Christians are ok, they don't fly planes into buildings" BS; stop the "Nuh-uh, my best friend is Muslim and she doesn't believe 9/11 was ok so Muslims aren't really bad" notions.
All religion is bad. It's the only form of "human understanding and learning" that hasn't evolved (pun very intended) in thousands of years. It's archaic, useless, genocidal and dangerous to personal freedom. - tetrisj, on 05/02/2008, -0/+0That's all very nice but the question you don't bother with and the list is meant to answer is:
Should we censure ourselves and ban things that Muslims find offensive (like Muhammad caricatures)?
If your answer is "No", then making the list is indeed pointless, but what you don't seem to grasp is that real newspaper editors need to make real decisions like that because they receive real threats on their lives. Whether the Muslims making the threats are emotionally stable or not, doesn't matter at all, all that meters is how that it happens often and that we as a society need to answer that question.

- linuxrocks2007, on 02/23/2008, -5/+6Yes so chemical warfare, shooting people rioting for peace, cluster bombs and sending Muslims to Guantanamo Bay without trial will offend the Muslims. I'm not saying your point is invalid (the holocaust was a terrible time in history) but you also have to look at it both ways.
- ryuujin, on 02/23/2008, -1/+1Hrm, I'm sure Muslims, and hell, just plain people living there are pretty offended with the rhetoric that allows the USA to slaughter millions in the name of 'democracy' and get off Scott free. And just when you thought the ***** invasions to stop the communists were over, now they change commies to terrorists, wash, rinse and repeat.
I am not trying to reduce the scale or horror of the holocaust in any way. The Jewish people experienced an injustice for which they deserved heavy reparation, and they fought for it, and have received international recognition for what they experienced, as well as financial and other reparations. This doesn't make up for the tragedy, but it does provide grounds to heal.
Unlike the Jewish, none of the groups the US persecutes internationally gets recognition of the injustice done to them internationally. I'm not just talking about Muslims in general at this point, or one specific country. The USA has been doing it on a multi-national scale for years, killing based not on race but through ideology, not through gas chambers and a final solution but through slow years of ignorant policy, agenda, and idealism combined with militarism and self-serving, increasingly fascist and anti-democratic 'corperate' politics. How many innocent people have died in the name of the US economically fueled invasions? The NY times says millions in Iraq alone, but even not accepting that figure, it is definitely hundreds of thousands, and that's just one of their invasions. What about the deaths from Hussein, who they put into power in the first place? What about the deaths from the various terrorist groups they continually employ to do their dirty work to 'destabilize' other nations (Iran recently, but also Iraq, Afghanistan -- lest we forget that bin laden was originally THEIR man, funded and given weapons by the US). Do those deaths deserve nothing? I say we erect a statue to the victims of US corporate and economic greed, and put it right outside congress to remind those people who they are supposed to be working for, what consideration they should give their actions, and what mistakes their peers have made in the past.

- rhedrick, on 02/23/2008, -14/+15What I don't like about the whole situation is this...there are good Christians and there are extremist Christians, good Muslims and extremist Muslims, good and extremist , etc..
However, extremist Christians are monitored, policed, denounced, and prosecuted (if found societally criminal) by Christians. 'Good' Muslims feel sympathy and provide huge support for their extremists no matter how prejudiced, slanderous, merderous their extremists are.- knde, on 02/23/2008, -2/+15But you oversimplify…
Where do the vocal Extremists Christians (for the most part) reside? They reside in the US, with its well structured laws and policies. So without fear for their lives, moderate Christians CAN denounce those Extremist Christians.
What would you have a moderate Muslim in Afghanistan or Iran do? Risk their very own lives to condemn Extremists??? The majority of Muslims in the world do NOT live in countries with developed (or democratic) legal and political systems and thus do not have the luxury of freedom of speech.
It is most unfair to compare the actions of moderate Muslims within a theological society, to that of moderate Christians in secular societies. If the US was a “Christian” nation and open defiance would cost you your life, would you be quite the vocal advocate?
And then there are the cases of moderate Muslims in Western countries who protest and denounce extremist Muslims, but the media pays no mind (it’s not quite as exciting as “lunatic Muslim kills several”).

- lowhauler, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1have you seen Jesus Camp? Check out Marjoe while you're at it. Or my entire ***** childhood.
- tetrisj, on 05/02/2008, -0/+0So i guess those huge riots in Denmark and France were not real?
Or is burning cars because some cartoon offends is something you consider "moderate?

- evilpoptart, on 02/23/2008, -2/+15im of no religion and i cant stand half this stuff.

- ramo13, on 02/23/2008, -10/+22Did anyone actually bother to have a look at the articles listed in the blog ?
or did the BNP take over digg ? - NoNamesLeft, on 02/23/2008, -6/+10***** religion, but being a Muslim != must follow Sharia Law. For those individuals and countries that do follow Sharia law, well I don't understand their stone age viewpoints either. The example of that woman getting gang raped and it is HER fault and is stoned to death is the kind of logic that only those with single digit IQ's can muster. I'm not condoning invasion or anything, but something needs to change to bring some BASIC human rights to those countries. I say we stop buying oil, stop selling them arms and keep embarrassing them with high profile news etc. A political solution must be found not a military one, or we will ***** up relations even more.
- darkcthulhu, on 02/23/2008, -2/+3Don't you have to have a single digit IQ to believe in ANY of that crap (ALL religion?)?

I know you said Jews, but it's similar to what you asked.
- coffee200am, on 02/23/2008, -13/+10When ALL (100%) Islamic countries allow freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press then I won't bitch about islamic bitching.

- carpespasm, on 02/23/2008, -4/+4How many of those are there out there? I know the US isn't one, and most of Europe is pretty secular, even if they have some vestigial Christian basis in their laws. Just wondering.

- EarlOfLade, on 02/23/2008, -1/+2Ehhh Ok, let's start with USA first then.
There is no bigger terrorist state than USA and free speech is absent, you can even get laid off from work for things you say on your own free time. USA wouldn't know what free speech is if it yelled at them!
So, USA - go first as a good example and maybe others will follow. - source1984, on 02/23/2008, -1/+1How about the western countries actually follow some of these rules too?

- hmcook87, on 02/23/2008, -9/+4no its not racist at all, its anti-Muslim. Islam is not a race.
- pintomp3, on 02/23/2008, -0/+4it's bigotry. which is no better. you are basically saying anti-semitism is ok because jewish is not a race.
- lowhauler, on 02/23/2008, -1/+2Actually Jews self-identify as a race. And a culture. And a religion.
- lowhauler, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2Hmm, I see I'm getting dugg down. Let me clarify: well over half my friends are jews, ie. their mothers are jews, ie. there's an explicit genetic component to their jewishness. None of those friends practise Judaism. Nor do they balk at eating pork or giving Xmas presents or getting tattoos. We joke about this, since ex-christian me is the guy they always end up consulting on bible questions. They identify themselves as jews, and they only way they can--and do--do so without qualification is racially. As far as culturally and religiously, sure, they understand that they "should" take that stuff more seriously if they "really" want to call themselves jews, but they know they'd just be kidding themselves. Jewishness is funny that way. Either/or doesn't really cut it.
Is that better?

- str3ama, on 02/23/2008, -10/+15The list of things that offend Christians: everything.
There's no use in pretending like Muslims are so vastly different then Christians, or any other religion for that matter. You're both more likely to commit terrorist attacks, whether it be a suicide bombing in Iraq or the bombing of an abortion clinic in the US. The holier than thou attitude of conservative/extremist Christians is tired, and overplayed - you have a lot more in similarity then you do in difference.
I'm actually more scared of Christians because they worship an instrument of torture/execution as sacrament.- hmcook87, on 02/23/2008, -4/+1yes, the whole cross thing is pretty disturbing. although you must realize that Christians do far less killing than Muslims these days, but I don't think counting up he dead on either side is really going to tell us much.
- pintomp3, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2"you must realize that Christians do far less killing than Muslims these days" not if you count how many iraqis we've killed in iraq.
- hmcook87, on 03/23/2008, -0/+1actually the various Muslim sects have killed more fellow Muslims in iraq than US soldiers (some of whom are Christian, some are not).
- pintomp3, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2"you must realize that Christians do far less killing than Muslims these days" not if you count how many iraqis we've killed in iraq.
- Defuser, on 02/23/2008, -1/+3Oh, ***** you. Show me where Christians are suicide-bombing innocent people. Futhermore, you incredibly ignorant jackass, it's typically politics, not religion, that lead to hate in this world. As evidenced by your idiotic, peabrained stupidity.
- lowhauler, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2Um, abortion-clinic bombings? Abortion doctor killings? Or is it okay if the killer lives?
- nrtikman, on 02/23/2008, -1/+2I don't recall Christians beheading people on camera and then showing their heads to the camera for 'effect'..Christians do not call for lashings of gang-raped women for having the nerve and sluttiness to be gang-raped.
And you don't consider this 'torture'?
Christianity also does not call for excutions of audulterers and homosexuals (Saudi Arabia beheads them in public). Nor does it call for the death penalty for apostacy. - flip2trip, on 02/23/2008, -2/+1just like a bigot, saying EVERYTHING offends us. The Christian faith does not encourge war against people because of their beliefs, Islam DOES! Christians do not worship an instrument sir, they worship Jesus as their savior--get it right. Show me one organization that calls itself Christian, that adhere to the teaching of the Bible--and commits acts of violence agaist humanity--you cannot--you will find people CALLING themselves Christians, but if you examine them closely they corrupt what Jesus taught.
- lowhauler, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2So, God's commandment to the Israelites to commit genocide so they could claim the promised land, that would be the not encouraging people to kill? Or God sending bears to dismember little kids who made fun of Elijah, that's an example of good behavior?
Tiny news flash: ALL religions take on characteristics of the culture that manifests and articulates them. There are no "pure" forms of any religion. If someone says he's picking his nose in the name of Christ, you can try and convince him otherwise, you can disagree with him, but you can't dismiss his nose-picking as prima facae non-Christian.
- lowhauler, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2So, God's commandment to the Israelites to commit genocide so they could claim the promised land, that would be the not encouraging people to kill? Or God sending bears to dismember little kids who made fun of Elijah, that's an example of good behavior?
- InRussetShadows, on 02/23/2008, -1/+2Really? Everything offends Christians? That is demonstrably untrue, so that makes you a liar. Way to prove your point.
- hmcook87, on 02/23/2008, -4/+1yes, the whole cross thing is pretty disturbing. although you must realize that Christians do far less killing than Muslims these days, but I don't think counting up he dead on either side is really going to tell us much.
- macweirdo42, on 02/23/2008, -12/+25Oooh, oooh, do Christians next! Seriously, why is it when a Christian blows something up, he's a lone nut, but when a Muslim blows something up, suddenly he's a representative for his entire religion? Don't get me wrong, it's not that I'm a Muslim sympathizer or anything, I'm just not a big fan of any organized religion. I mean, you got Christians running around blowing up abortion clinics and gay bars, and you just don't see the same public outcry. No "Christianity is a religion of hate," no "Well if he really wasn't being a true Christian, then Christians should speak out more against it." That's just always bothered me - I mean, you can have people come out and say "Well, it was wrong for him to blow up the abortion clinic, but his heart was in the right place," or crap like that, and even then, you don't see any outrage over Christianity.
- rlh1, on 02/23/2008, -6/+3It's not that it's a few incidences, it just that it is so common.
Take a piece of paper and list the number of riots, killings etc that come about because someone thought that their religion was insulted. Categorize it by religion and let us know the results.- deadcrickets, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3I suggest you read the history of Europe.. starting around 1492. Then go back and study the crusades. I think what you'll find is that Christianity is far from a religion of peace. Islam and Christianity share blind fanaticism and both have had periods where invasion and forced conversion were the norm. To claim otherwise would be to deny history. Despite me being a Christian I can tell you that those involved in it can act exactly the same as those in Islam. It's rare to find any religion that doesn't seem to have a problem with those willing to kill or hurt others to promote what they believe in.
- rlh1, on 02/23/2008, -1/+1Gee, if you want to go way back, include the Mongols and the Islamic invasion of India...I could list a lot of bad bad things, as any one could with Medieval Europe.
Going back 1000 years to the Crusades tells us nothing about today.
Just do the list for the last 10 years and get back with me.- deadcrickets, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2Did you want me to include the abortion clinic bombings? What about gay lynchings? How about the attempts to censor books, movies, TV, games....
- rlh1, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1I thought that it was just riots and killings over things hurt the feelings of some due to their religion.
But if you want to include everything done due to religion, against another religion, that would be fine. Please include the persecutions of non-muslims then in muslim countries too. Please include the 2 million in southern Sudan, the Christian driven out of Lebanon, Hindus out of Pakistan, and the everyday crimes against homosexuals in the Muslim world.....they do hang then by government order in Iran....don't they. Oh, and do include the stabbing to death of teenage girls in Algeria because they weren't dressed Islamic enough.- deadcrickets, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1Yes and you prove my point exactly. The problem is that religions have fanatics. However Christians and Islamacists tend to have a great fervor for compelling others to their viewpoints. To deny this would be pure ignorance. Some religions tend to be extremely tolerant and peaceful. The Buddhists are one of those groups.
- rlh1, on 02/24/2008, -0/+1I proved your point, how so ?
Everything that I mentioned is what happened in Muslim countries.
In your statement you say that some religions tend to be extremely tolerant and peaceful.
I guess that means that some are less tolerant or peaceful then others.
So..... do the list ....riots or fatwas or killings due to some one insulting the religion.
Do it over the last 10 years....remember, the Crusades were about 1000 years ago.....
- rlh1, on 02/23/2008, -1/+1Gee, if you want to go way back, include the Mongols and the Islamic invasion of India...I could list a lot of bad bad things, as any one could with Medieval Europe.

- BaronSamedi242, on 02/23/2008, -3/+0You miss the point here. If you look at the life of Jesus, he came to the planet (if you believe that nonsense) to sort out the backward, warring peoples of the planet. His message, for the most part, was peaceful. He told his men to beat their swords into ploughshares, and when one of his men pulled a weapon to try to save his life, he healed the wounds of one of the men who was there to bring him to be beaten four-fifths dead, then nailed to a piece of wood and hanged up in the brutal Middle Eastern sun. Though he once said "I have not come to bring peace, but a sword" it was prescient that his overall "love thy neighbour" message w
