White-hot molten steel spills and kills 32 Chinese workers
timesonline.co.uk — At a metal factory in North East China, molten steel engulfed an adjacent room where workers had gathered for a routine shift. change. Rescuers were unable to get closer because of the intense heat emitted from the “white-hot” liquid metal which rose to 1,500 C (2,732 F).

- TroubleInMind, on 10/12/2007, -20/+11Those steelworkers all trained on Super Blacksmith Killer, it's just a fact, the FBI has seen the videos and none of their heartrates were above 60bpm. There's no way someone being burned to death by hot metal for the first time could do that without having trained on a blacksmithing simulator, I'm sorry, that's just how it is. Please hire me as an expert witness. Thank you.

By that did they mean the factory, or a more traditional crematorium? - nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -14/+5wait, are you trying to tell me 32 people burned to death in a crematorium? I think that's pretty normal...
- BlackAle, on 10/12/2007, -16/+4Judging by some who were digged down in this thread, it shows they were probably digged down by bigoted Americans, and shows exactly why the world feels the way they do.

Oh please, when it's any other time, all I hear is "U.S. aren't the only people who are on the internet. The U.S. is so introverted."
Then when someone makes an insensitive (but I have to admit I chuckled) joke, all of a sudden Americans are the only people on the internet who'd say such a thing. You and your country are just like any other country: We all think our side of the lawn is greener than your's. Get over yourself and your country. - mrbeagle, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10What a horrible way to die. I have a friend who's into colonial demonstrations of wood turning and black smithing, and it's really not that hard to melt it. If you just give it enough oxygen, it will burn it.

- CurtHowland, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16"while the number is similar to the VTech number, the impact is much smaller."
Indeed. No guns to blame, so it won't get much press or any political attention. - BlackAle, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5one was an accident, the other had warnings, but they were ignored.
- haveacigar, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Right, so because they live in China their deaths are less important than if they were American. Yes it was an accident, but it was still a terrible loss of life which doesn't grant people the right to make a joke of this.
- cspivack, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1While it's the same amount of people dead, and is certainly a tragedy, first of all, they're Chinese, so ya know, why would Americans care about that? Also, not a shooting spree, Americans love violence, so this just isn't "sexy" enough to get good ratings.
- humannn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Absolutely correct. Context matters. The VT deaths are more noteworthy because they were deliberate. This accident, as far as anyone knows, was purely unintentional.
Another example of context: The pain of being tortured by a sadist and the pain of giving birth to a child. Both could be the same level of discomfort, but one would likely require years of counseling to get over while the other usually doesn't.

Humans > animals. I don't care what the animal is or how you killed it. No one deserves death for killing an animal.. - royall64, on 10/12/2007, -7/+30I don't think most Americans actually care or know about anything that happens anywhere beyond the US. Which would explain why half the comments in this story are the equivalent of painting a billboard to say "I'm ***** uneducated."

Those poor people just suffered the worst kinda of dying. The death was quick, probably ended in seconds; but within this period, they experienced the most intensive pain that a human can feel. How little you know about pain. You should study American torture methods.
Real pain is having nitric acid injected into your testicles, your spine exposed and sanded down with fine-grain sandpaper, your nasal passages filled with pepper-extract, your stomach filled with compressed air or your prostate shocked with a modified TENS unit.
Anyhow, America has moved into a new field of scientific study: tormenting the innocent. Land of the free - home of the brave!

Real pain is having nitric acid injected into your testicles, your spine exposed and sanded down with fine-grain san"dpaper, your nasal passages filled with pepper-extract, your stomach filled with compressed air or your prostate shocked with a modified TENS unit.
Anyhow, America has moved into a new field of scientific study: tormenting the innocent. Land of the free - home of the brave!"
@"laserblaze": How little you know about *anything*. This original poster is showing sympathy to a tragic incident and what do you do in response? You take the time for a little America-bashing (never mind that your little political tirade has absolutely nothing to do with the story). Maybe you should STFU and let grown people discuss this issue. Incidentally, I'm getting more than a little tired of all these blanket statements you all make about the U.S. What the f_ck make you 13-year olds some sort of experts about on what an entire nation of 300 million people are thinking?
And don't give me that bullsh!t about how we voted for Bush - Bush won only 51% of the vote. For those of you who seem to be mathematically challenged, that means 49% never wanted Bush to be President. By making all these blanket statements about "all you Americans are this or that", you are basically telling the half of the country that actually *AGREES* with you that they don't exist. Think before you open your mouth, or STFU. - m4csrgh3yk3v, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Chinese government quick to release a footage of survivors

Industrial accidents are typically caused by equipment malfunctions, or human ERROR. VT was a deliberate act. The events are not the same. There were plenty of people in the US saying the US "deserved" it as well. For example, an armed madman deserves to be killed. An operator does not deserve to be executed for pushing the wrong button.
Finally, I feel bad for the people involved in any tragedy and their families. Having said that, I can also appreciate a witty observation or comment in conjunction with the event. These two things are not mutually exclusive.
Finally, all you people who "HOPE" that this will actually have an effect on China's safety issues are living on another planet. Get off your whining asses and fly to China and do something about it. This is like fat ass Sally going to film the starving children and spending thousands of dollars to do so, instead of moving there and HELPING the cause. You ***** people make me sick.
