Will Smith Opens Scientology School
chanologynews.info — Contains 6 Scientologists as teachers and offers "Study Tech" which was developed by L. Ron Hubbard and is used worldwide by the Church of Scientology. No longer the prince of Bel-Air, but rather a slave hubbard.

- plimpton777, on 05/17/2008, -28/+45Will Smith has joined Tom Cruise and John Travolta in the ranks of the Gay Scilons. They probably caught him in their web after recording their "sessions" where the "clear" themselves of their homosexual tendencies and sexual history, then use that info to blackmail them. What a nice scam!
- PaulOwen, on 05/17/2008, -4/+28Will "wicky wicky wah wah" Smith should add some credibility to L. Ron Hubbard's Alien Cult.
No, I'm sure people will take it, and him much, much more seriously now.- GawtMilk, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1He's 'bout to freak this!

Will Smith is to black as Carrot Top is to comedy- lisaawesome, on 05/17/2008, -4/+18Syd, what does Will being black have to do with this? We don't like him only because he's black. He's a nice funny man who is apart of a disappointing nutjob cult.

- fcrow, on 05/17/2008, -3/+26I agree, I've always liked Will Smith, Man in Black was cool and I enjoyed watching Wild Wild West. But damn! joining a cult that 'fair games' people who criticizes them? WTF?!?!?!?
- WNW3, on 05/18/2008, -3/+11You enjoyed Wild Wild West? Seriously? From Wikipedia "Will Smith himself often jokes about the film, acknowledging his dislike for it in several interviews with the media."
- LocalDocal, on 05/18/2008, -1/+6Yeah, it's shocking, but it is possible for someone to like a movie that the actors themselves didn't like.
- soogy, on 05/18/2008, -2/+10Jon Peters told Kevin Smith that his script for Superman Lives had to have three changes. First, Superman had to wear an all-black costume, as the current one was "too faggy". Second, Superman was not allowed to fly. And finally, the third act had to consist of Superman fighting a giant spider.
Peters went on to produce Wild Wild West. The rest is brilliant film history. A giant mechanical spider...
...In the 19th century. - Croecop, on 05/18/2008, -3/+2Props to you Soogy, I'd let Kevin Smith nestle his balls in my mouth.

- RobotBuddha, on 05/18/2008, -9/+3Were you a fan of him, or his work? His work remains the same, and it's not like most of us had plans to go hang out with him or anything.
- Hodr, on 05/20/2008, -0/+0I don't know. I find it hard to believe that knowing what most of us do that anyone would willingly join Scientology, or remain once they find out how things are run.
I think it must be the case that the celebrities enjoy an elevated status within the church and are insulated from the activities that inspire so much anger in the rest of us.
Maybe being angry or disgusted with Mr. Smith isn't the appropriate reaction, but rather we should feel sorry that he is being exploited to promote a cause that he (likely) doesn't fully understand.

- robthom, on 05/17/2008, -63/+19Are you kidding, white people love everything will smith does. He's like Oprah for whitemen. I even saw an apparently middle aged white guy on here praising will smiths rap music ("well I dont like rap music, but will smiths songs are pretty good"), it was bizarre!
It looks like scientology has dropped the dandy bomb and anonymous just lost the war IMO.- honeymustardn, on 05/17/2008, -3/+40I'm white and I don't love him anymore. You're a complete moron.

- robthom, on 05/17/2008, -8/+3^^ "... get over it robthom."
Get over what? I was only stating a few facts, none of which were related to acting.
I guess he's a decent actor, his acting has never particularly impressed me. I'd say "not a bad actor" would be a more accurate description. But to each there own, if you think he's good thats just fine with me.
Get over what? I dont get it?!
Get over the pleasure I get by saying exactly whats on my mind to people over the internet anonymously? Well thats my pleasure and I aint hurting nobody. Just like you've got a right to love will smith, I've got a right to the small pleasures that I enjoy also. - bjornski, on 05/18/2008, -1/+5@Kilometers
Nope. After I saw him make a complete ass of himself and sell out in "Men in Black 2", and then the horrible, horrible movie version of "I, Robot" (They're vintage!), I've written him off completely. - robthom, on 05/18/2008, -3/+1FYI, I dugg you "kilometers" because your question intrigued me. - pitlord, on 05/18/2008, -4/+1OMG! how racist can you be? "Oprah for whitemen?"
>.>
Suddenly, there is a difference between people with different skin color? Every chance you get you liberals bring up the race issue and act like it was the nearest white guy's fault. You act like anytime somebody disagrees with a minority figure, they must be racist. That gives you free reign to disagree with anybody you want because if they try to argue the facts you just call them racist and game over.
-_-
Now, you take the opposite approach and act like any mistake that a minority figure makes is actually the white man's fault because obviously only white people are capable of making mistakes, right?
o.O
It is disgusting and you deserve the hellish world that you are going to spend your days in and leave as your legacy to your children.- betterth, on 05/18/2008, -1/+1"Suddenly, there is a difference between people with different skin color? Every chance you get you liberals bring up the race issue and act like it was the nearest white guy's fault."
Idiot. One white man (to seemingly another), please shut the hell up. Every is capable of being racist to each other.
If, perhaps, white people had been persecuted and enslaved for a century and discriminated against to this very day in this country, perhaps people would be more sensitive to white people.
To deny that racism is still VERY alive and VERY well is naive. Just watch some of the interviews with people in West Virginia about Obama.
But hey, no need to be sensitive to the fact that your grandparents very likely discriminated against and insulted their grandparents. (Or depending on your age, your parents). No need to be sensitive to the fact that this generation of people are some of the first to experience something that closely resembles equality.
Let's complain that some people are still bitter. Yes, it's a double standard that it appears that racism only applies when it's against a minority, not against white people. But you know what, we ***** earned it. So shut up and deal with it. We have to deal with the legacy of our parents and grandparents. If you want things to be fair, than go out and make the world a better place and help end racism for everyone.
But as a white male, you have it the best in America. White people enjoy the highest average socioeconomic status. The highest literacy rates. The top 5% wealthy in America is almost entirely made up of white people. The heads of companies and politicians are almost all predominately white. White people, on average, earn higher salaries and escalate higher in their workplaces faster.
So let's not complain about equality just yet, okay chief? - uhhNo, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1What somebody's ancestors did has nothing to do with them. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I don't give a ***** if somebody's great-great-great-grandparents were slaves.. the world was screwed up back then because of the horrible influences of extremist religion (Christianity teaches people that having slaves is completely okay), but now that has changed, fortunately. If YOU were a slave, I would have sympathy for you and help you, but since you probably were not, you do not deserve any more or any less respect than anyone else.
- sonofblacula, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1I'm white. My great grandparents were gypsies who escape Nazi Germany in the 30s before ***** went south, and my grandparents were in the last generation (unless someone still does this...) of sharecroppers. No one in my family has EVER owned slaves, and assuming that my family persecuted or enslaved blacks based on the fact that I am white is racist and demeaning.
Also, ***** Will Smith. I Am Legend in two sentences: "Science totally ***** it up and aaah now there's vampires! Good thing Jesus just bailed us out - the end!" - 1randomguyO8, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1shut up. "Oprah for white people" is the funniest thing I read today(albeit it wasn't a funny day though)

I don't think that because the word someone uses for spirit is 'thetan' that the definition becomes any different. I am a Christian. Says Will Smith. He's not necessarily a Scientologist, although he has donated to its programs possibly because he's friends with Tom Cruise.- chaosium, on 05/17/2008, -3/+29"He's not necessarily a Scientologist"
"I just think a lot of the ideas in Scientology are brilliant and revolutionary and non-religious"
He's a scientologist, dummy. Just like how Tom Cruise used to pretend that he was a Catholic and "Scientology is just tools I use in my life..."- pigducksheep, on 05/17/2008, -7/+17I think at this point, Tom Cruise would admit he is a Scientologist. Once Will Smith does so, I will lose respect for him. At the moment, my understanding is that he is an open-minded person and maybe a little too open-minded for his own good. I hope he makes the right decision in the long run.

It's possible, but right now he's making his daughter a Scientologist by removing her from public schools and putting her in their control. He's also doing their training, and claiming that it is all "secular". He's endorsing their product and their "religion", and might as well be one for all the ill-action he is promoting. - SpyDerMann, on 05/18/2008, -0/+2Alright, recruitment time people.

- Terasiel, on 05/17/2008, -0/+5There's a problem with that statement: If I'm not mistaken, it was made six months ago.
- nemonik, on 05/18/2008, -0/+5By definition if he accepting of all paths then he's not really a christian. As a Christian you're one and only savior is Jesus Christ, meaning he accept God's full wrath for you and the worlds sins, but to gain salvation you have to accept his grace in doing so, and in doing so recognize him as the Son of God. That's why so many early Roman Christians were martyred, they weren't students of all the various other religions of the time, just the one true God -- You know with the big-G, not a little G. Scientology is not a religion. There is no godhead in the faith. It's all "Tech". (I'm laughing as I write that, cause really by "Tech", I mean to say "*****." Cause that's what it really is. Sure, maybe the ***** is doing something for you, much like gosh I don't know worshipping a golden calf would.) Sad Wil. You need to talk to your grandmother maybe she'd set you straight.
- orientis, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Or like, praying to an altar, or to a deity with no visible extrusion into our world, or any other ridiculous religion. Scientology is a religion as much as Heaven's Gate is a religion. Cults are a sub-set of religion.
And sorry to reiterate the point, but religion is silly and antiquated and we should all grow out of it and move on to bigger and better things.

- MiddleOfNowhere, on 05/17/2008, -3/+21Please, let this be a terrible misunderstanding.
I always thought of him as a smart, if slightly narcissistic guy ...
The article indicates that this school also applies Montessori, an accepted mainstream teaching method, so if you were super-optimistic, you could see that as a silver lining of pluralism. But if they really have six brainwashed Hubbard-***** on board, this won't help much. It's like a school that teaches math, literature, and, oh yeah, Becoming a Braindead Cult Zombie 101. - sailadayaway, on 05/17/2008, -2/+7Sorry for the comment jack, but here's the school's website:

- MiddleOfNowhere, on 05/17/2008, -2/+16The article you linked (thanks, BTW) quotes him saying that "a lot of the ideas in Scientology are brilliant and revolutionary and non-religious."
For my taste, that's a *bit* too close to Ron's Cult of the Braindead.
Also, I'd be curious which "ideas" he refers to. I have read a bit about Scientology and their *cough* teachings, and the only comprehensible thought I could find was: "Let's build a pyramid scheme based on a lousy space opera story to suck millions out of impressionable people all over the planet, using VIPs as bait." - chaosium, on 05/17/2008, -2/+14"Actually, to clear this up he's not a Scientologist."
His school is run by Scientologists, his daughter has been homeschooled by scientologists.
That he thinks it'll lessen his PR doesn't change the reality of his situation.
- blackeagle613, on 05/17/2008, -13/+5I will still watch his movies, he is a good actor.... all religions are crazy anyways Scientology is just a little crazier

(sorry for caps use, but sometimes diggers make conclusions way too quickly)- chaosium, on 05/17/2008, -1/+12http://newvillageacademy.org/_bin/curriculum/Gloss ...
- dn11, on 05/17/2008, -9/+1To be fair, it doesn't look like pure Scientology and there's a lot of other stuff mentioned there. It isn't clear how much Scientology training is incorporated in "Study Technology", or just how much Will Smith specifically has to do with that part of the curriculum. People have got to be careful not to go off on witch hunts I think. I believe Scientology is nuts. But I honestly don't know enough about it to condemn every single aspect of it. Mostly this school just looks pretentious and new agey to me - the kind of school that Hollywood types would naturally take their kids to, but I know people that went to Montessori schools, and they seem to have turned out pretty normal, so who knows.
- dn11, on 05/18/2008, -3/+2ok, you can bury me. but let me get this straight. is this some sort "front" for Scientology? because other than one paragraph I see nothing about L Ron Hubbard on that site, and that isn't he norm for Scientology related sites. I can imagine them going covert in order to avoid more bad PR - but this is the first i've heard about it. And I'm still having a hard time believing Will Smith became a Scientologist - it is even more disturbing to me if he is afraid to talk about it.
- chaosium, on 05/18/2008, -0/+9"let me get this straight. is this some sort "front" for Scientology? because other than one paragraph I see nothing about L Ron Hubbard on that site, and that isn't he norm for Scientology related sites."
It's perfectly normal for COS propaganda/recruitment/indoctrination groups.
WISE - http://www.holysmoke.org/cos/joining-wise-cult.htm
CCHR - http://www.lisamcpherson.org/cchr.htm
Narconon - http://www.narconon-exposed.org/
These groups were founded to promote Scientology, indoctrinate the weak attack its critics, and to fake voluntarism in order to get public funds to promote a "religion", but also in order to act without a direct link to Scientology (though all aspects are controlled by the Church.) - dn11, on 05/18/2008, -0/+2interesting... it is still curious to me why will smith isn't coming out in that case. celebrities have usually been used as recruiting tools - and will smith is probably one of the most well liked and charismatic people in Hollywood. I would think Scientology would be anxious to use him as a new mascot now that Tom Cruises popularity is waning.
- uberduger, on 05/17/2008, -2/+2Don't apologise! It's the cruise-control to cool.

- bjornski, on 05/18/2008, -0/+5NarcAnon and the Cult Awareness Network don't advertise their Scientology links either.
They don't draw attention to the fact that they own a lot of projects. If some of those people know they were Scientologist projects, they'd fail. So that info is kept below the radar. Study Technology - An educational model developed by L.R. Hubbard, study technology focuses on three principles. First is the use of “mass” (manipulatives and hands-on experiences) to foster understanding – children need to see and feel what they are learning about. Second is the attention to the “gradient,” which ensures sure students master one level before moving on to the next. Third is the “misunderstood word,” in which students master word definitions and are taught not to read past words they don’t know the meanings of in order to understand completely what they are reading and learning. NVA uses study technology as an umbrella methodology woven through the subjects.- bweltondav, on 05/18/2008, -0/+5At the end of class everyday, students are expected to contribute five dollars to a "learning fund," designed to help teach the concept of attaining happiness through spending.

You can't be a Christian and a Scientologist.
Scientologists follow a leader who states that Jesus Christ never existed. - codyp, on 05/18/2008, -0/+0Haha that was a lame retort.
Will Smith is a Christian, not a Scientologist.
The only thing he ever did was claimed he understood where the religion was coming from, he never joined it.

- bb112266, on 05/17/2008, -2/+30I have to admit, I will not have the same respect for Will Smith as I have. This is not a matter of his personal faith, but Scientology is more then a religion. It is on a thin ice of being a very dangerous sect. I never cared for what others do in their private lives. How that effects me and the rest of the world is another matter. it is Will Smith's life. If he wants to mess up his life as so many actor/actresses have done then they have to live with it.

- Sidzilla, on 05/17/2008, -0/+9The difference is that you can say that here, and Christians won't hunt you down, ruin your life, make you lose your job, and get you thrown in jail. Scientologists could teach Muslims something about Jihad.
- ifoundthetao, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Honestly, why do you have a disgust for Christianity? Because of what people have done in the name of Christianity, or because of the teachings of Christ?
- logan074, on 05/18/2008, -2/+0I have to admit I have met a lot of crazy ass Christians in my life.
- xellas84, on 05/18/2008, -0/+0The difference here is that while there are a lot of crazy-ass christians, Christianity at it's base is a pretty solid system. Scientology was written by a crazy man, and is crazy in and of itself, without any help from nutcases like Cruise.

- JBish828, on 05/17/2008, -3/+6The article wasn't clear on sources for Smith's participation in this school, so I'm going to politely bury and live in denial.
- Fritzed, on 05/17/2008, -4/+8Lucky for you it ISN'T true. Will smith has said several times that he is not a scientologist. He respects the "religion" which is more than it deserves, but he isn't a practicing member.
I just finished looking around for other news on this, and there are absolutely no other reports indicating that this school has anything to do with scientology.
Buried as inaccurate.- chedabob, on 05/17/2008, -1/+2Just what I was thinking.

- chedabob, on 05/17/2008, -1/+2Just what I was thinking.
- mongrel, on 05/17/2008, -1/+10Scientology would make him more of a fraud than a nutjob, which may be even worse for what seemed like such a nice guy. It's pretty clear all Scientology really is is a massive tax-free Hollywood party fund that leeches from the weak-minded underclass.
- uberduger, on 05/17/2008, -1/+9Great, now I have to throw out my Bad Boys, Independence Day, Men In Black and Enemy Of The State DVDs. And I was really looking forward to seeing Hancock... Stupid Scientology.
- boonesfarm, on 05/17/2008, -0/+4I don't like to tell people what to do with their money, and I'm all for freedom of religion, but Scientology rubs me the wrong way too. Far flung space gods and other eccentricities might fall under the "faith" clause of following a religion, but the donation-based hierarchy is hard for me to get past. The money might be better spent directly on charity, which would be an unquestioned good deed in any society.
- jcm267, on 05/17/2008, -1/+2If I ever watch reruns of the Fresh Prince or any Will Smith movies I'm just going to watch them online. I'm not going to pay admission for a Will Smith movie or watch an episode of the Fresh Prince on TV ever again.

Don't victimize the people taking orders. There is no excuse. - hmunkey, on 05/17/2008, -0/+2I don't think scientologist leaders are truly evil. I understand V for Vendetta, but like Sin City with its comedic IRA gang, or 300 with its 'hoo-rah" spartans, it is pure fiction, it is what comic books do. Dont try to protest seriously while referencing REAL history incorrectly.

+1 I salute you sir- aladrin, on 05/17/2008, -0/+6I noticed a couple years ago that the internet had reached the point that if you didn't actively follow it, there were too many references to really understand what people were saying any more. It's like hanging out with any group of people that are well versed on a single subject, and you aren't.
"Obvious", you say... But consider this... That means the internet is truly a part of the culture of any 'first-world' nation. If you avoid it, or keep your children off of it, you're ostracizing yourself or them.
The same way that many people laugh at the Amish for their beliefs, we not have those who laugh at internet-avoiders for theirs.

Disowning the man and boycotting his movies because of his religion is just as hateful as saying you wouldn't watch it if he was Muslim. You're all a bunch of Bigots.

Will Smith may have studied Scientology with pal Tom Cruise, but he says his faith rests in his own spirituality.
"I don't necessarily believe in organized religion," Smith, 39, said when asked about Scientology Friday at a junket for his upcoming film I Am Legend.
"I love my God, my higher power, but it is mine and mine alone, and I create my connection, and I decide how my connection is going to be," he added.
Describing himself as a "student of world religions," Smith — who was raised a Baptist — said: "I believe that my connection to my higher power is separate from everybody's.

Fresh Prince of the Looney Bin?- kss42, on 05/17/2008, -1/+6Now, this is a story all about what
Made Will Smith turn into a nut
I'd like to take a minute, I won't keep you waitin'
I'll tell you how he started thinking his soul was a thetan.
A West Philly Baptist, born and raised
In a church is where he spent his holy days
Prayin' and sayin' he's devoted to Christ
And singin' some hymns on a Saturday night
When he took up acting, and he got pretty good,
He said, "I'm moving with my funky-fresh style to Hollywood."
Well, he starred in some movies like Men in Black
And Independence Day, where the aliens attack
He was raking in the money, he just couldn't lose -
That's about when he met a guy named Tom Cruise.
This Tom was an actor, just like Will
But he also just happened to be mentally ill
A crazy cult had Tom, and they got Will too,
And that's how he became The Fresh Prince of Xenu. - trackerbishop, on 05/18/2008, -0/+2excellent

- Darqfaux, on 05/17/2008, -29/+3Will Smith is Christian. Read his wikipedia. He is just accepting of all views of life and takes the good (not the bad) from each one. So don't hate, he is NOT a scientologist.
- xenuXtehpool, on 05/17/2008, -2/+22Although it is possible that he is still completely clear of Scientology in his personal beliefs, he is now helping fund the cult through his official use of L Ron's Study Tech (costing him 4% of total revenue). - chaosium, on 05/17/2008, -5/+4Study Technology - An educational model developed by L.R. NVA uses study technology as an umbrella methodology woven through the subjects.

That doesn't work, and here comes this great organization that teaches you that your money can buy you not only happiness, but fulfillment and purpose. I think some wealthy people think that they might as well try it since they've tried anything else (couldn't hurt, right?) and before they know it they're sucked up into this cult.

- izackcarson, on 05/17/2008, -1/+1Any religion makes you feel special. In the case of a cult, you are super special because you are one of the chosen few who understand this message that no one else gets. The poor plebes just aren't smart enough to understand what you almost intuitively grasp.
Plus, the social networks perks are pretty nice. Who didn't try either starting or getting into a neighborhood kids' club when little? Now magnify those feelings of exclusiveness and exclusion by a large factor.
Being smart is no substitute for being accepted by an elite group of people. Just about anyone is suseptible to the message of a cult at some point in their lives. - Khast, on 05/18/2008, -1/+210 Clear Screen
