- Sheri123, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1I blame our push for bio fuels, not Bush for this one.
- locamama, on 07/06/2008, -1/+4Biofuels are one of the many things that sounded great in theory but the reality is horrible. It is awful to put food into our vehicles while people are starving. GWB has committed a billion dollar increase to help global food relief. Hopefully, Congress will be able to see the big picture and put an end to ethanol subsidies and mandates.
- flavioribeiro, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2You can blame corn ethanol for this. It would never be produced in a free market because it's not an economically viable solution (which implies it's not also environmentally sound). It only exists in the United States because the government gives farmers massive subsidies.
So in essence the taxpayer funds corn ethanol, which in turn makes food more expensive. The citizen is charged twice for his own inaction.
Every time I criticize corn ethanol on Digg someone comes up and questions me. This leads me to believe that Americans are uninformed. You can start by looking at its energy balance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethanol_fuel_energy_b ...
