I do not need Paul to tell me the govt is screwing me over.
but answer this members of the church of paul, if paul's message is so huge and important why did he not try to work harder to get on main stream media? IF he did care so much why would he not stop until every single American knows the truth?
Why is paul not going on the interview circuit still pointing out the wrong doings the govt does to its people? He has the proof correct? so if its so damn easy why does he not do everything he can to get the word out? - NorthMass, on 07/24/2008, -3/+51The media ignored him catfish182, it is as simple as that. LOL what do you want Ron Paul to do magically inform every human being on the earth of how government should be run when the media shuns him, the man got over one million supporters with zero media coverage and zero funds outside of grassroots fund-raising.

- catfish182, on 07/24/2008, -16/+3northmass,
so while his message is something that everyone American should hear since he can not get on main stream media then its not his fault?
you paulites say he needs to be heard as he is the only person speaking the truth. So why does he not try to work with MSM so he can be heard? Its that important isnt it? He has the answers doesnt he?
you can tell me that he has a million supporters (I debate a million) but what do his supporters do? criticize others for not following and not questioning what paul says?
Why not take some responsibility and admit your guy did nothing to try to get time on MSM. Sure you can say Paul kept it real and look what keeping it real did for him. paul and paulites say they have this great message that we need to know as we are losing our rights yet it seems paul isnt really trying that hard to get the word out.

- silentboom, on 07/24/2008, -2/+2Have you seen the price of aluminum?
- Reese268, on 07/24/2008, -0/+14@catfish:
Paul can't FORCE the MSM to give him interviews and airtime. He does the best he can. You act as though every station in the world is desperate to have him on the air, and it's only his unwillingness to do so that is causing his message to not be heard. You can question a million supporters all you want, but that's how many people voted for him. Arguably there are more, who simply voted otherwise because they didn't want to vote for someone they didn't think would win.
Saying he did nothing to get airtime would be stupid, he did everything he could to get media coverage. - catfish182, on 07/24/2008, -4/+1i disagree Reese
Paul did not take advantage of what limited time he had (and it was very limited everyone can admit) and i am glad you feel he tried but to me if his message is so important and he seems ot be the only smart man then if he is such a patriot why would he not try to get the word out. No matter what type of person he is the message would overwrite it. - Parapadrifter, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1@catfish He did try... YOU, ME, US, we failed the message. The message has always been there, but, I don't know what you expect him to do? Exaust all of his funding to spread the message that the Main Stream Media will scrutinize, and thus craft the ideology of the viewers? NO... he is attempting to establish a movement. He has. Thats the only way we will change this monstrosity of a central government. --catfish.. your childish argument painfully reveals the reason our country is in the shape it's in. YOU, ME, US, we want somebody else to do the work. So, put up or STFU and let the grown ups handle it.

There are many things a president could do (or undo) without the cooperation of congress because there have been so many illegal moves made that went unchallenged by previous administrations. Plus, thanks to our wonderful current president/congress duo, the president himself could declare the situation a catastrophe, and do whatever the hell he wanted. - Zong, on 07/24/2008, -1/+3@silentboom I believe that Congress is made up of half Republican and half Democrat right now so you assumption that it's all liberals fault is quite stupid especially considering the Republicans have a history of Cooperate Welfare at the cost of the people. The bail out does not mean that people who took out a crappy mortgage get to keeps their houses it means that the companies that give them the crappy mortgage in the first place continue to stay in business and make ridiculous amounts of money. - V2012, on 07/24/2008, -1/+7He's right. Evolution IS just a theory. Do you even know what a theory is? It means that we don't know for sure what happened, we just have some data that we're trying to make sense of. Science isn't a religion, it doesn't require your faith. It's largely a collection of BEST GUESSES based on data collected, and nothing more.
I agree with Reese 268, you are an elitist prick. Did you become an atheist because you were sick of religious intolerance? Well SURPRISE! You're still a member of a religion, and one of the most intolerant of all! - DrDreyfus, on 07/24/2008, -3/+2@V2012

Really? You want a president who doesn't believe in a veritable scientific truth? His rejection of evolution speaks volume about his character and the direction he would lead the country.
How does that make me an elitist? Do you even know what that means?

Agreed. He has the right to believe whatever he wants and it is a beautiful right guaranteed by our forefathers. However, I personally don't want the next president to be a total ignoramus.

- SeasonedBeef, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6It was the media and the GOP that killed the Ron Paul campaign. He was rarely given media coverage and when he was they always put the label "long-shot" or "dark-horse" on him (from day one!).
The death knell came when Romney dropped out of the race. That was the day most RP supporters in my area knew that a nomination, while technically possible, in reality could not happen (not much chance of a brokered convention after Romney left). - Reese268, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3Actually, it's a true statement. There are lots of people on Digg who like him, and there are just as many that don't. If you look at the evidence concerning this, or even just take the time to read through comments, this fact becomes obvious.
- CMaff24, on 07/24/2008, -3/+3Just so everyone knows, the consequences of allowing Fannie and Freddie to collapse were potentially much more dire than propping them up with government funds. The current state of the subprime credit crisis would be exacerbated to a degree we couldn't even predict, because every loan Fannie and Freddie backed would default and all that money would be *gone*. At least taxpayer money is real, and will continue to recirculate, keeping the economy afloat (barely).
And stop blaming "rich investors" for this. Instead blame the "sleazy mortgage companies" that rode a massive housing bubble boom, tricking poor middle and lower class families into buying houses with mortgage rates they could barely afford during the peak of national economic and real estate prosperity. Then blame these same mortgage firms that leveraged these loans 10x, resulting in a long term loss of not only the persons housing, but also for the 10 dollars to every one that was used by YOUR bank to keep the ATM machine well fed. Yeah you can say the banks/investment firms never should have accepted the mortgage securities, but they've been doing it for more than a hundred years without such negative consequences. Blame the mortgage companies that are now out of business.- Reese268, on 07/24/2008, -0/+5Mortgage companies are absolutely to blame. The people who irresponsibly took loans they could not afford are equally to blame. If they had thought it through, they would have made the same discovery I did... that while I could get a loan to get a house, I would not be able to make the payments on that loan in a few years.
Yeah, letting them collapse wouldn't be good for the economy, but what is going to happen by bailing them out is to reinforce their bad behavior. The consequence of their backing bad loans is being removed, and so they will have no incentive to not back bad loans in the future, as they can assume they will be bailed out again. This only delays an inevitable day that will ultimately be made far worse by continuing to function the way we are.
- Reese268, on 07/24/2008, -0/+5Mortgage companies are absolutely to blame. The people who irresponsibly took loans they could not afford are equally to blame. - ProjectGSX, on 07/24/2008, -1/+2We also need to realize the two-faced nature of our government.
Record oil profits = free market economy, enjoy your profits!
Mortgage company failure = Add 800 billion to national debt for bail out.
You CAN'T have it both ways!
And as for Ron Paul - his problem is calling himself a Republican. The Republican ideals he stands for are NOTHING like those of Bush, Cheney and the neo-con movement. Today's Republican is about legislation enforcing religious beliefs, discrimination, war mongering and profit for the rich. Many people write Paul off just for calling himself a Republican.

And for those saying '***** it, they deserve to lose their shirts' the only people losing their shirts are middle Americans, from their 401K's, by losing their jobs, that kind of thing.
Those responsible left with the cash quite some time ago. Or have parachute packages, so you'll 'punish' them by handing them millions while they leave.
I gotta ask; what should they have done?- xBDVx, on 07/24/2008, -14/+6Finally, someone makes a reasonable comment.
Ask yourself, what do you think will happen when we don't bail out these two companies? Their role in the market is to absorb other banks' mortgage losses. If they fail, you can goodbye to our economy. Congress just saved out ***** asses and you should be thanking them for it. If anything, you should blame the people that allowed predatory loan practices to go on as long as they did...specifically the last two Congresses. They knew about the problems, but didn't do ***** about it. But since we're already in this mess, we have to save the banks as much as we have to save the people going bankrupt and getting their homes foreclosed. - OgonGuitarist, on 07/24/2008, -0/+19"Congress just saved out ***** asses and you should be thanking them for it."
Correction:
WE saved their asses. We're paying for the bailout because the Federal Reserve decides to print billions out of thin air to pay for their losses. That devalues the currency, since there's more in circulation. And guess what that means, chump change. Our money's worth less! Our income isn't rising accordingly nor are our taxes decreasing. That means our real purchasing power has been decreased with each and every bailout. It's an inflation tax. Congress needs to grow a pair, stand up the bankers, and tell them to stop the precarious lending. Then we need to haul these banking bigwigs off to federal prison and use THEIR money to pay for THEIR *****. - PeppermintPig, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6So we reward failure and tax those who are actually successfully making money? Yeah, that works.
"Their role in the market is to absorb other banks' mortgage losses."
Which is absurd. They're taking on mortgages that are too risky for any sane person to accept. They accept them because they're not paying for them, but we all pay for this risky behavior in the form of government waste and inflation. - cnot3, on 07/24/2008, -0/+7Congress doesn't know what's best for the economy. As Ron Paul pointed out, most of the economic hardship that we are facing is due to government intervention and the fed setting interest rates far below the market value.
Ever heard of Milton Freedman and the 'Fool in the Shower' analogy? Basically it states that whenever the government interferes with the economy it just ***** things up even further. - algaeturd, on 07/24/2008, -1/+6The stupidity of Americans is why the powers that be can pull this stuff off so easily. Dr. Paul is one of the few who break it down honestly into laymen's terms and spell it out. What should be do? What should we DO?
It's what we should have DONE. You don't HEAL a recession. You PREVENT it. That was the first problem; entrusting an idiot with the keys to your country and trusting him to keep it safe and secure and thriving financially.
ALL recessions/depressions take the exact same course. We've been through it before; there are no surprises. It's is a slow, downward spiral and the KEY is to put aspects of economic support in place to prevent slipping to the next level. Some economists say that this whole situation actually looks staged. And who can blame them for thinking that? It was a very systematic decline and fairly quick in terms of economic stretches.
But yeah, Americans have handed the keys over to someone who couldn't manage the finances of a McDonald's and then they get confused when everything goes to *****?
And now it's ,'what do we do to solve it?'
Where have you been for the past 4 years? HELL, past almost EIGHT years.
Have you SEEN the bill for this war? I'm just wondering. - jodes440, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1STOP ***** BAILING OUT BANKS!! Jesus Christ!! How many times do we have to take it in the ass before we say 'No mas'???!!! Continually bailing out the banks will result in a depression, not the other way around. - anarcurt, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3all businesses overseen by the SEC (brokerages Etc.) have had to get fingerprints for years. Kinda like guilty until proven innocent. The interesting thing is I never heard of a stock fraud case come down to fingerprint evidence.
- codesuidae, on 07/24/2008, -1/+3Ron Paul says "Everything you buy and sell on your credit card, every transaction will be reported to the IRS" (see about 4:57 in the youtube video, either watch?v=Yu_moia-oVI or watch?v=Wy6SlUpbnIU).
This is completely incorrect. He didn't take time to understand the bill.
RTFB. You can easily find it on thomas.loc.gov. Put "H.R.3221" in the search box, select the 'Bill Number' option and submit. Click through to the 7th version of the bill and bring up the pdf:
http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi ...
Look on page 620, line 11.
"Each payment settlement entity
shall make a return for each calendar year setting forth—
[...] the gross amount of the reportable transactions with
respect to each such participating payee."
A payee is "any person who accepts a payment card as payment"
The bill says that companies that process the payments have to give the IRS an ANNUAL TOTAL for each company they paid on behalf of their cardholders. So, Bank of America has to tell the IRS the total they paid Wal-Mart for a year when they file their return.
I'm all for avoiding government snooping, but this ain't what Ron Paul said it is, not even close. - Archos, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2Yes, all your private data goes to a bunch of powerful individuals. After the dollar crash you can only pay with a Mastercard (newspeak for slave card) in a state of Martial Law. Government is gone. It's you versus them - so clearly now...

http://www.campaignforliberty.com- loki49152, on 07/24/2008, -17/+6You're right. A baby does have the right to life.
A foetus does not. And until it's born, it's a foetus, not a baby.- bobcat7407, on 07/24/2008, -3/+10A what? A foetus? I think you mean fetus, and I'm curious how you prove your statement. Why is the line when it is born? Why not when we can detect a heartbeat? Or perform surgery on the baby? Or when we can tell the sex of the baby? Or when it is convenient for you to call it a baby? Oh wait, that last one is probably your reasoning.
- Lockean, on 07/24/2008, -4/+2How about when it is viable on its own? If it has never drawn its own breath and cannot if it were pulled out right now, how could it be considered alive?
- Swateke, on 07/24/2008, -2/+2Foetus is correctly spelled, even more accurately than fetus. Fetus is derived from foetus.
And the line isn't "when it's born". The line is 3 months. He is incorrect, he meant embryonic. - Screwy1138, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2"How about when it is viable on its own?"
A 6 month old baby is not viable on it's own. Take away care, and it will die. - bobcat7407, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2@Lockean - But what if it can feel pain? It has a hearbeat? Are people who are on life support not alive?
@Swateke - I'm not sure where you get that from, but fetus is the modern spelling in English. Why 3 months?
@Screwy1138 - 6 months is actually the point a baby can survive outside the womb. It still needs care, but so does a baby born after a normal term. Here's a link that says it: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8645639/
- satanatnmtedu, on 07/24/2008, -22/+2You guys are stupid and do the same damn theing you accuse others of. You accept that Paul is for liberty even though he claims the US is a Christian Nation, he is against abortion (the freedom of a woman to choose), he is for the pledge of allegiance, an there are many more examples of how he is against freedoms that make the US great.
Paul is all about states' rights. The idea that brought us slavery and the civil war. Paul isn NOT for the Constitution. He is for his interpretaiton of the constitution, just like every other politician. But, Paul has a bunch of mindless douchebags that are too selfish to see that they are being used and manipulated. - Reasonableguy, on 07/24/2008, -6/+6Actually, I'm a big fan of baby murder. I thought you people were all about civil liberties and personal rights? In thinking about this fetus that couldn't live on it's own, that is by definition a parasite, are you forgetting about the woman and what her rights are?- silentboom, on 07/24/2008, -0/+8Ron Paul said he would leave it up to the states. Even though he doesn't like it he STILL respects your opinion.
- InfiniteNothing, on 07/24/2008, -3/+1So he's going to take a right and make it a maybe.
- Swateke, on 07/24/2008, -5/+4Babies, what babies? Killing babies is wrong indeed. But i don't think thats unique to Ron Paul.
Killing embryo's? Well, then thats just as bad as throwing away your sperm.
Killing fetusses? Well, thats the debate. But I say, eat some lambchops and stfu, you antropocentristic *****. I hate hypocrits that would slice open the neck of a lamb, let it bleed out, strip its skin and eat the insides, but removing a fetus that can't even feel or realise, well...
If you're against all killing.... Well, don't do it then... Damn hippies. - JonGalt, on 07/24/2008, -3/+1I just "unfriended" you for saying "American babies and innocent Iraqi & Afghani babies.". My god your a ***** retard and you make me look SO bad.

- zephc, on 07/24/2008, -1/+31No, for a lot of people, it doesn't even occur to them to save money for their utilities and rent, instead of blowing it on a new TV or other frivolous things. I'm convinced most people aren't even aware of many of their own actions - are not fully self-aware creatures. A lot of them seem to service in public office.
- Journeywithinn, on 07/24/2008, -0/+32Well, it will be pretty hard to buy things on the internet without a credit card..and I also remember that when I was young and very poor, I could never have had clothes to wear to work if I did not have a credit card, buy some, and then put $5.00/week aside to pay for them. The IRS has NO business looking at any of our financial records AT all without a warrant!!
- tomz17, on 07/24/2008, -0/+12How exactly will reporting to the IRS stop people from making bad financial decision with their credit cards!?!??

- Sm0k1R, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4Truthfully, even if everyone was aware of this, most American's wouldn't see the harm in their credit card transactions being sent to the IRS. Most would probably support the idea if it was somehow linked to stopping terrorists.
- sk11, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4We would mostly agree that a father who gives his young daughter an unlimited credit card should have his head examined, yet the government does this very thing. Perhaps Dr. Paul needs to diagnose some of his fellow senators.
- JonGalt, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1And what happens afterward? Its all still there and we are worse off.

They then sold off the lousy loans to poor countries and to our school systems as bonds. These ***** should be put in jail, not bailed out.
- Journeywithinn, on 07/24/2008, -1/+37Really! This is our money. I would rather use it to help local businessmen from going under--and again--the IRS is no WAY allowed access to our personal records without a warrant. We need to get rid of every congressman who voted for this!!!

Public office is for people who have a lot of connections and aren't getting much else done with their life. I have things I want to accomplish before I resort to running for office and being "told" what to do on a daily basis. Maybe after I retire. But seriously, how can nobody else see that Pelosi and other influential dems are not trying to help our country at this point in time? She completely banned any talk of drilling for oil in alaska or anywhere in the arctic on the house floor until after the next recess, which was shown in the wall street journal today would have a huge effect on oil prices. why? to make people suffer and want "change" that they think they can only get by electing a democrat into office come november

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fannie_mae
http://www.investopedia.com/terms/g/gse.asp
They help make our economy *go*. If they went under we'd be MUCH more *****. You think the economy is hurting now, just wait for these guys to go bust. Anyway, they're also pseudo-government entities, formed and *regulated* by Congress. They could have done something a few years ago to regulate mortgages and loans, but they DID NOT...so now we have to bail them out.- brad3378, on 07/24/2008, -3/+14General Motors and Ford motor company make my local economy "go".
Should we bail them out too?
Why should a bank in New York get my Michigan Tax Dollars?
Why should the bankers get to keep their private jets while the taxpayers suffer?
Let them fail! - ka9dgx, on 07/24/2008, -4/+17No... we'd just go back to the old fashioned way of doing things.... you'd present your case to the loan officer of a local bank who would have strong incentives to make sure you could actually pay back the loan. The housing bubble would complete it's pop, and life would go on.
There's nothing wrong with letting Fannie Mae go bankrupt and have its assets sold off. It's called Capitalism, and it's supposed to be how we do things in this country. You either try hard and succeed, or you go bankrupt, and other people get a chance.
Attaching a vacuum hose from my wallet to the giant hole that is the housing market isn't going to work. - xBDVx, on 07/24/2008, -7/+6@brad: You don't like to click links do you? It's not a New York bank. It was created by the government to provide liquidity to real banks so that normal people could even afford loans to buy houses. Most people wouldn't be living in houses right now if it wasn't for those two "companies." Now whether or not you agree with people living in houses...it's happened already. If these two companies go down, the rest of wall street will go with it. People won't be talking about recessions anymore, because it'll be a depression.
@ka9dgx: who's gonna buy $12trillion worth of securities right now? That's right, only the government CAN do it. Otherwise you'll really screw over those people that were tricked into getting loans they couldn't afford do to the predatory lending that was going on. - MuskokasFinest, on 07/24/2008, -5/+5Thank you xBDVx for bringing some rationality to this conversation.
I don't think people realize that if these companies fail then the entire economy will collapse with it. This is not a Ford Motor company, or some company that owns some properties that other companies will "snatch up". These companies are responsible for 12 trillion dollars of US money. - Lockean, on 07/24/2008, -1/+5@xBDVx: giving to idiots who over-bought rather than buying houses they could afford a pass is not doing the situation justice. Agreed, Fannie and Freddie collapsing would be catastrophic but denying personal responsibility on the part of the people who chose these loans will just put us right back here in the future.
@brad: if the govt were to bail out the auto industry, you bet your ass you'd be hoping that the federal govt would be putting up the money. Michigan couldn't bail out a Best Buy store with its current income or GDP. The people of Michigan would be just as screwed as everyone else were this system to fail. - Y0tsuya, on 07/24/2008, -2/+5xBDVx,
Hint: Most people knew exact what they were doing, but were counting on never-ending price appreciation to bail them out if something goes wrong. Why should we sink the dollar to help them out? - Friern, on 07/24/2008, -3/+3I'm not in favor of bailouts, but this is going to cost the government much less now with a bailout than in potential future costs - it's unfortunate, but that's the reality.
If Fannie/Freddie go under, it's not just the people that are "denying personal responsibility" or "knew what they were doing" that will be screwed. Half of the mortgages in America are guaranteed by Fannie/Freddie and some include responsible borrowers.
To explain it in Digg-terms: Bush is against this bill (even if he won't veto). What does that say? - Mavital, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1The previous comments are correct. The free market cannot bail Fannie or Freddie out of this. Do you people seriously want to send that big of a shock through the market place? I am by NO means a socialist, but certain measures have to be taken to ensure the health and welfare of the economy as a whole.
- brad3378, on 07/24/2008, -3/+14General Motors and Ford motor company make my local economy "go".
- Hangly, on 07/24/2008, -0/+17Let me correct this misconception immediately. This is NOT coming out of your tax dollars. This money was not borrowed. Even if there was someone out there with a trillion dollars to lend, they certainly wouldn't be insane enough to lend it to our government.
No, this money will be PRINTED. This effectively DOUBLES the amount of dollars in circulation nationally, which means your own money's value is reduced by HALF.- Sm0k1R, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3Yes, thankfully I invested in a bunch of Canadian money recently.
- kronzdigg, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4There is no tax money left. This is printing money!!!!!!!!! This is the devaluation of your fiat currency!!!! It will fail and the U.S. will begin a long difficult recession.
- Hangly, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1I don't know why I feel like I have to post. Must be my aspergers or something.
Technically what we are facing is not a recession. Recessions happen when the money supply is insufficient to cover production. What we are facing is hyperinflation, which is a good deal worse.
Throughout this crisis the value of the stock market (priced in dollars) will INCREASE, not decrease. - kronzdigg, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2Thank you.
- Hangly, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1I don't know why I feel like I have to post. Must be my aspergers or something.
- bobthegreat1224, on 07/25/2008, -0/+2It's important to remember that homeowners bought houses they couldn't afford. There are two guilty parties here. The guilty homeowners aren't just a few deceived innocent sheep, they're a massive body of individuals whose habits are the direct result of our cultural views on debt. That's a problem the government can't fix, only cold, hard, painful, flat-on-your-butt-in-the-streets reality, and the lesson will have to be repeated many times before it clicks on a wide enough scale.
The government's actions are also the result of cultural changes, for which we're partly responsible. We're shifting slowly from capitalism to socialism as our sense of compassion and feelings of entitlement grow ever larger. Whether this is a mistake cannot be stated exclusively as a matter of fact, but it is almost certain that this trend will continue until the inevitable end of our nation. Ball-bustingly strict capitalism and democracy are out the door in the current world climate, and we're following suit. That is also a simple matter of cold, hard reality. - le0pardess, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1Well said SoyJames!

- Trav3133, on 07/24/2008, -22/+20A point of view like this is far more destructive than any legislation.
- JimW311, on 07/24/2008, -2/+14Point of view is subjective. This is not subjective, this is the facts. This would be called reality. We are going down the wrong path, and unless it's changed. Then yes, there isn't much hope.
- zer0nix, on 07/24/2008, -1/+5hey, ***** HOPE. you don't like the situation? do something to change it. hope is for pansies.
- DirtPile, on 07/24/2008, -18/+3Not having kids implies no hope because you can't provide. *****.
- DeFex, on 07/24/2008, -1/+20not having kids migh have nothing to do with being able to provide, there are enough already, its selfish. and mean making them grow up in this *****.
- jerrycurley, on 07/24/2008, -19/+5You have no hope for hte future becuase of YOUR life.
And you have no kids because no one would ever have sex with you.- xShifty, on 07/25/2008, -0/+0He doesn't have kids because he's not a stupid redneck like you.
- DrPaul2008, on 07/24/2008, -1/+11Completely agree. I have hope for the distant future, but not for any my hypothetical kid could have. Hence, no kids for me. Which reminds me.. I just made this comment a bit ago; http://digg.com/health/The_Birth_Control_Extremist ...
I know the Free State Project is a long shot, but I think it's the best shot we've got. If you're of like mind, you may want to check it out. http://www.freestateproject.org - vincebodie, on 07/24/2008, -1/+23Have kids, homeschool them, teach them about honest money, honest relationships, healthy living, the Founding Fathers, Nikola Tesla, Lysander Spooner, and Ron Paul. It's our best hope.
- btschul, on 07/24/2008, -5/+2Not to detract from your excellent comment, but if I was going to have a kid, I would consider naming him Lysander Spooner because that is a ***** kick ass name.
- michaelmit, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2Dugg for Nikola Tesla!
- Neodarwin, on 07/24/2008, -2/+1Wrong! If you do have kids and raise them the way to said, thell get chewed up as as soon as they leave the nest. I myself have two young kids and let me say its damn near impossible to raise them to be honest without being naive and to be tough without being cold.
Parenting in this day and age is not quite what it used to be.
- kds405, on 07/24/2008, -9/+9This country is still not horrible. Life is not yet so hopeless that being alive isn't worth it. If you are that hopeless, I pity you. If a bank bail out is going to shatter your life, perhaps you should scale back a bit and try to worry about things you can control. Your not fit to handle these things that in reality won't affect you.
- normalkid0615, on 07/24/2008, -3/+1your 14?
- Gonthim, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2How do you avoid the affects of inflation and the devaluation of the dollar? That's a nice trick I'd like to learn.
Assuming of course you live in the US. - Matt2k, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1> How do you avoid the affects of inflation and the devaluation of the dollar?
Well, you can't avoid it entirely, but they key is living within your means, working in a relatively insulated sector, being self-sufficient and conservative, and being at the top of your game.
For example, I'm not rich by any standards, but I have absolutely zero debt, I grow a garden, rarely drive (or when I do, consolidate trips) or waste money, and while I might have to adjust my rates as time goes on, my clients aren't with me because of my price anyway. They're with me because I make them money by being good at what I do. And this year has been my busiest yet. Will it continue? Dunno, depends how bad it gets, I suppose. And maybe I'm just being young and naive, but I'm not really that worried.
- thexder, on 07/24/2008, -1/+11Who is going to change the world if you don't have kids?
- emilychap, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1Couldn't agree with you more!
- orlyfactor, on 07/24/2008, -1/+2Perhaps the other 5.9999 billion people can do it. But nooo, they're all evildoers, right?
- Clearfire18, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4Hopefully us, or some of the people viewing this digg page.
Why just dump all of today's problems on to the next generation?
- mwag, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2You can't always expect the next generation to make the change. Why do you think it's gotten this bad? Because WE are supposed to be the ones to change the world. We should probably get on that.
- Screwy1138, on 07/24/2008, -1/+10If you have a solid head on your shoulders, an education, can provide an education to your children, and teach them the right ideals, then you are screwing the world by not having children. Thanks.
Our problem is the wrong people are having kids.- emilychap, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2Idiocracy styles.
- cmackattack, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1One person's thought of screwing the world, is another person's thought of screwing their child...well that didn't sound right, but...you understand the point.
Or maybe it's that one person's thought of saving the world is by screwing your kid. Hummm...that still sounds bad.

- Sharky35, on 07/24/2008, -7/+2What country do you ppl live in? I live in America, the greatest country on Earth and we have 2 kids so far.
Maybe you can move here and then have some kids.- orlyfactor, on 07/24/2008, -2/+5Go USA! Morans!
- malibusurf, on 07/24/2008, -0/+5This is the real tragedy, people being priced out of starting a family in a first world economy.
- flyturbo, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1you can always move to Canada and have kids!

- BeaReady, on 07/24/2008, -6/+77This is so outrageous it's near unbelievable! Where are the credit card lobiests? Oh...silly me, I forgot, they're the BANKS who benefit from this robbery of the tax payers!
- Hangly, on 07/24/2008, -0/+5Yep. This just went from 'nervously fingering your gun' scary to 'running naked into the woods screaming' scary.
- Sharky35, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1The banks are screwing us sooooo hard that they are going out of business.... how does that work again?
- Lawofnations, on 07/24/2008, -5/+57If the public had any idea just how large a sum one billion is then I think they would be able to put this 800 billion credit scheme in the proper context. By design all Ponzi schemes collapse so my suggestion is to use gold and silver coin for all purchases of products or services. If the merchant refuses then go to his competitor next door. Guess which one will survive this coming depression relatively unscathed?
- DrPaul2008, on 07/24/2008, -1/+12Unfortunately, our government isn't even pretending to be righteous anymore, and their own laws don't apply to them. They've gone after services like eGold, and Liberty Dollar, criminally. Plus, anyone who saves gold or silver becomes a "hoarder", and can have it all stolen from them.
I think it's a very good idea to exchange for things as much as possible. I think that silver & gold is a very good medium of exchange. Just be careful of who you let know you have it.- Lawofnations, on 07/24/2008, -0/+9Use post 1984 "walking Liberty" silver dollars and "double eagle" gold dollars. I wouldn't give any other type of coin a second glance as they are not defined in law as dollars of the "United States of America" (money).
Plus, when spending the coins, you don't want to muddy the waters by using a variety of coin, ie: Krugerrands, Mapleleafs, commemerative, antiques, etc.. It will con
