Thumbs Up For Left 4 Dead's Awesome Box Art

kotaku.com — Normally, box art posts are the stuff of filler. This one, however, is merely for praise. Valve's art department makes up for The Orange Box's yucky melange with the most enjoyable pun-as-box art treatments ever with Left 4 Dead.

    • smaisch, on 07/22/2008, -0/+2Agreed. From a graphic designer's standpoint, this isn't groundbreaking by any means. In fact, the concept is simple, not extremely creative. The execution is nice, but I really didn't find it that interesting.
      • Wilsomatic, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1It IS creative in the sense that it has a severed hand with the obvious reference to it being a zombie game and the not-so-obvious reference to the title by having 4 figners. Not to mention that it's a hand left somewhere, not necessarily attached to anything.
        It may be simple, but not everything has to be busy. It of course isn't groundbreaking, but what is anymore?
        Execution, I agree is poor. The designer went a bit too far with the levels on the hand thus making it very badly exposed (but it may have been done to darken the gore areas). The hand is a right hand. The background could definately have been better and green is just a horrible colour for something like this.
        However, with all of that said, this is a stand out piece of box art because it is creative in its use of meaning and it is different to other video game box art out there.
