Top 10 Xbox 360 Games You Should Have

mannpill.com — Here is a list of this authors opinion of great xbox 360 games. I love my xbox 360 but i am more into the sports games than this guy, but I really like Halo 3 and Gears of War. Here is his list of 10.

  • orlando37, on 12/11/2007, -29/+2I always buy NCAA football and Madden but this year I did not get Madden because I did not hear great things and I did not love the NCAA upgrades. I love Tiger Woods 08 though, that and Halo 3 are awesome.

Even then, you'll have those who want the arcade feel where you can juke your way through a 8-man front and score the 80-yard touchdown while high-stepping...and there are those who want the sports simulation.
      This years Madden was horrible. I played maybe a couple games, and gave up on it...this coming from a guy that wears out every football game he owns. I ended up buying NCAA Football after this years Madden failure.

I would buy a Crackdown 2 with 4 player online co-op in a second. Rainbow Six Vegas is a great game and I loved it, if anything it should replace either GH or RB. IMO, Rock Band, just because I'm pissed at the fact that there's no Online World Tour mode.

    Freakin amazing! That’s all that can be said. It’s stunning to look at, the controls are spot on and the story is very good. This is one of the most mind-blowing games ever. The atmosphere is perfect and I never once felt disconnected from the game. This is the type of game that will show you why you bought that HD TV and Bose speaker system. Do you have that friend who can’t understand what’s so great about video games? Sit them down in front of this game and watch them as they realize what they’ve been missing.





    The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

    Possibly the greatest game ever created. I found myself spending many hours just wandering in search of chance encounters and hidden caves to explore. The Game of the Year Edition has the original game along with the Nights of the Nine and the expansion Shivering Isles. This game has been out for a while on PC and Xbox 360, but it never loses appeal or replay value. I’ve played through about 4 times now and every time I choose a new character and do everything in a different order. I doubt I’ll ever grow tired of playing it.







    Halo 3

    I loved Halo and I kinda liked Halo 2, but Halo 3 is definitely where it’s at. Great graphics, sound and animation. Nice smooth controls and lots of action. Weapons and vehicles were as good as expected and the whole experience was as fun as the first. Now here is my favorite part… online co-op play. OMG! Now, I like getting my ass kicked by 12 year olds as much as anyone else, but when you get some friends and play through the campaign together ON YOUR OWN SCREENS it makes a good game even better. I hate playing split screen for a lot of reasons and don’t actually want to see where everyone is and what they are doing. It adds to the excitement and the tension.

    Rock Band

    What an awesome experience. This game allows you to play Guitar, Bass, Drums, or vocals. The full blown purchase gets you the drum kit, guitar and a microphone. It’s easy to figure out why it’s more desirable than Guitar Hero III, but put the instruments down for a second. Check out the songs list. It’s incredible. If you only compared Apples to Apples here and played the songs through on guitar, Rock Bands wins out. The songs are awesome and the downloads offer even more (Black Sabbath, Metallica, The Police...).


    Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

    I’m not saying GH3 isn’t good. It’s an awesome game. The songs are great as well. It’s like playing GH2 with new songs. And that’s fine with me since I really loved GH2. This release steps it up and really kicks ass. Not everyone is happy about the “Boss” battles, but if you can’t beat them, you can still move on through the game.



    Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

    WOW. All I can say is WOW! I have been a COD fan for a while. I thought that COD2 was going to be hard to beat, but beat it they did. Into submission. This game is so intense and exciting, I found it hard to get to sleep after playing it. In fact, a couple of nights went by with no sleep at all. I tried. I’d turn off the game and go lie down. Then about 15 minutes later I’d be up again playing. It’s that good…







    Assassin's Creed

    It’s no Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, but it’s still an awesome game. Everything is right about this game. The controls, the environment, the animation. It looks amazing. There is a lot of story to be had here and it might feel at times like your watching more than playing, but it’s worth it. Just stand on a rooftop and look around. This game actually plays out my favorite part of Oblivion; the Dark Brotherhood. You are given “targets” to eliminate throughout the game, and you choose the way you would like to carry out the orders. There are side missions and goals along the way (like finding flags in the way you found packages in GTA). Dark room + HD TV + surround sound = Long Nights…







    Gears of War

    I loved this game the moment I started playing it. Some things bothered me at first like the fact that is was third person and it was pretty linier and not very open ended, but that quickly gave way when the action started. It’s a blur when I think back on it. So much happened so quickly. Co-op was a blast and that’s where a lot of the fun comes from. It was great when you got into a bit of trouble and had to yell to your buddy to bail you out. Especially since the reason you were in so much trouble was because you just got done bailing HIM out! Level design, creatures, weapons, and controls are all top notch.






    Mass Effect


    Action First Person Shooter meets Role Playing Game. On top of that it's made by the same people that did Star Ware Knights of The Old Republic, Bioware. I love games where your decisions actually matter. Yeah it has its warts like every game out there. But this game is a sci-fi geek's dream come true.







    Crackdown

    This is like GTA meets Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. You’re a super cop whose job it is to get rid of the gangs plaguing the city. You collect orbs that add to your attributes making you faster and stronger and better with firearms and driving or jump higher and make bigger explosions. This game is so much fun and so addictive that it’s almost impossible to stop playing. Get this game and then get a friend to get this game then get online and play co-op. It’s a blast! The two of you will wreak so much havoc and have so much fun, you may never sleep again. I remember climbing up a building and looking out across the city and seeing a huge explosion in the distance with flaming bodies and cars launching into the sky from the street below. I yelled into my microphone to my friend, “HEY! Wait for me!!” as I jumped from rooftop to rooftop to join in on the fun. Good times…

I called the Bethesda SW helpline and the woman was no help and it turned me off of the game completely. Also, in my opinion, the multiplayer in GOW is so broken it's not worth even trying to go on live with it. The campaign was pretty cool though.

I'd go with RB over GH3 just because of the group fun, but it's way more fun to play NCAA 08 with a friend than to assemble a "band." Bioshock wasn't very fun to me either though... I guess I have no soul? Mass Effect def. deserved GOTY though... maybe with ME:2? Assasssin's Creed is golden if you're renting it... kind of a waste of $60 if you bought it like I did (although the graphics are insane.../wrist with repetitiveness). Halo 3 is great fun mainly due to all of the ***** that happens while playing online. It's hilarious watching friends boil over due to some unprovoked death. Add skate to that list and I'll be cool.         Yes, it does get pretty repetitive, unfortunately, but the game mechanics WORK. Jumping from rooftop to rooftop, scaling buildings, seamlessly assassinating an unsuspecting rooftop guard, it all works great. The combat is nothing special but once you get used to it (which doesn't take long) it can be fun.
        I would implore anyone with a PS3 or 360 to at least rent this. I can understand not wanting to finish it, but at least play to experience the mechanics put in place, they work great, and the main assassinations are fun. It's not GOTY but it most certainly worth checking out.

Both games are fun for like 1-2 hours, and then you're like wow I am just doing the same thing over and over again...

I beat it pretty quickly (and I have never beaten a game that I rented without incurring serious late fees). Therefore, I didn't buy it. Assassin's creed on the other hand, I did buy and am having a blast without (to be fair, Bioshock is a great game and I think everyone should give it a whirl)

The only interesting game of your three is Dead Rising, as R6 is just a graphically updated version of every other god damn Clancy game I've played since the 64, and PGR is just a shinier not-quite-Forza-or-Gran-Turismo racer. Rock Band however is revolutionary and amazing.

      Btw, I R6:Vegas and PGR:4, I'm just trolling.

    • adraft, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2The multi player in R6 was incredibly fun, I'd buy the game just for that alone, I wish CoD4 allowed for the same armor customization. Plus, nothing beat the thrill of discovering a weapon that fit your play style perfectly (FAMAS was incredible, G3 also fun) and the cover system worked great (except for the exploits like glitch window). PGR:4 though, I dunno, it just doesn't do it for me. I prefer the Gran Turismo series and would freak if it came to 360.
      And is Dead Rising worth the purchase? I downloaded the demo and it had fun game play but it just didn't seem worth buying.

      Right, spend all the extra money on superfluous features we don't want. Wireless internet is inherently laggy, HD-DVD is nice, but totally unrequired for GAMING, and we already have harddrives, wireless controllers and a much better online experience. So tell me, what does the PS3 offer that's so much better? It's certainly not your games.

        • betterth, on 12/11/2007, -0/+1I have the best consumer gaming router money buys and the fastest cable connection available in the Atlanta metro area. If you don't notice anything, you probably aren't an avid gamer or never played computer games etc.

          Halo does a decent job of hiding the latency, but to me the difference between wireless and wired is the difference between night and day.

      Honestly, even six months ago, there weren't many exciting games out. The best thing on 360 was still Gears of War, and 2nd best was Geometry Wars. For whatever reason, a whole barrage of quality games have come out just in the last few months, both for 360 and PC.

I recently invested in a great computer though and haven't regretted it at all (Ok so I wish Vista was a little more stable and more games/hardware was fully compatible with it)

      For BioShock, Oblivion, CoD4, and Orange Box (not on list), I think it is fair to say that that ALL of these games are FAR better on PC. I sold my Xbox 360 for about $300, and put that cash towards a PC that can run any of those games at MAX settings (except for AA, of course) that cost me only $1100 total. I couldn't be happier! If anybody is like me, and has a 360 that's just been collecting dust for months, consider giving it a better home and treating yourself to a new PC. The games out for PC this year are simply awesome!

      If you are interested in buying a serious gaming rig like mine for about 1k, I'd be happy to share my specs. Just shout at me.

        Obviously, its not because of a lack of good games, that's for sure..
        For those of you like me that are tired of upgrading your PCs.. all the games listed above are available on the 360 (and some on PS3) and they play perfectly. The experience is just the same on consoles if you do not mind a controller.

Most of them, except Dead Rising, Rock Band Assassin's Creed and Oblivion, are all shooters. And most all of those shooter are better played on PC. I like my 360 but it needs more than shooters.

      What do you want? Sidescrollers? Mario? I will admit the 360 lacks an abundance of puzzle and/or party games, though.

Why EA hasn't put it in EVERY sports game they own confuses me...(the entire game is controlled more or less by the analog sticks and RT)

    I just picked up Mass Effect yesterday after debating whether I would like it, I liked KOTOR a lot, but wow, I was surprised... it is an amazing game.
    Assassins Creed sucks, get that off the list.
