First Video of Rock Band for the XBOX 360 (instruments and gameplay shown)
news.com.com — From CNET, "At the Under the Radar conference in Mountain View, Calif., MTV Networks' Jeff Yapp shows his company's role in virtual worlds now and in the future. He also gives a glimpse of the new, full-band Guitar Hero." Full-band Guitar Hero = Harmonix's ROCK BAND. Rock Band is not shown until about a minute left in the video.

- amyjane333, on 10/11/2007, -16/+0I used this account (my wife's account) to repost this to the XBOX 360 section instead of the video section. My original post was under my username dnomyarps. Hope you enjoy!
- amyjane333, on 10/11/2007, -11/+0Is there anyway to delete my original post of this story in the video section?
- doshindude, on 10/11/2007, -1/+25Rock Band gameplay footage starts towards the last third of the video.
I gotta say, freakin' awesome.- tw0bit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10so that pointless walking around on streets isn't in the game? phew, i got scared for a bit there
- Buckiller, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2That singing doesnt look to fun... the actual singing from the game drowns out the user. I would guess this is a setting you can tweak.
- bagboyrebel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1If it's anything like karaoke revolution then you can change the volume of the vocals.
- sinembarg0, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1im kinda dissappointed in the lack of cymbals, but other than that, it looks pretty sweet.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9b-8LYLGq8- chapel, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Yeah I posted that youtube link to digg a long time ago, but of course people pick the worst video to put on the front page.
- WITFITS, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Or this one on YouTube, shows just the band playing:
- mageofdeath, on 10/11/2007, -0/+26I was skeptical of this game at first, but now its looking like a must buy...
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -1/+6The drumset is gonna be wicked. I wonder if it could be hooked to a sequencer so you can take it out and use it as a real drum pad...
- jimbojim, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Everything looks cool but the singing. That has to be extremely frustrating, or ridiculously easy. Either way, I'll be picking up this game along side GHIII for the guitar/bass and maybe to give drums a try if I want to shell out the extra $80 bucks or so.
- oracleofmist, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4karaoke revolution is all i have to say about the singing.
- xeroclass, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I agree
if i do ever decide to get this game, it will be without the mic. Karaoke is hell.
- carpespasm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24damnit, why do they keep forcing me to give them my money!?!?
- xerus, on 10/11/2007, -6/+10There is *way* too much ***** going on on that screen.
- oracleofmist, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3agreed.
- SilentRamble42, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Let's just hope it's only like that when all four people are together. I wouldnt see it not being that way.
But still, too much. - nipterink, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6obviously it's only like that with four people playing. what's wrong with you people? that's like saying you can't play 4 player split screen FPS. learn to focus.
- sys9five, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Just focus on what you need.
- InferiorWang, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3When isn't 4 players on one screen "cluttered"?
One thing I noticed from playing Guitar Hero at friends' places is that when playing, all you see is your own part. - estvir, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You know what would rock (See what I did there ?), multiple X360/TV support like Forza.
So, one TV/360 per piece (Guitar/drum/mic) ! You'd either need to be really rich or pool your resources with your friends.- MCHampster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Um.
Sounds like you are describing System Link, which is a feature of many Xbox 360 games. Since this game will support Xbox Live, I'm guessing it will also support System Link.
What made Forza special was the fact that it was using multiple 360's/TV's for a single player game.
- MCHampster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Um.
- nova912, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11ill buy an xbox 360 just for that game... I hope the percussion rocks! i loved playing quads in high school.
- diggrim, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0It's multi-platform...as most games should be
- reddevil3, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9This game is going to sell by the boatload.
- mtrip, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2This game is going to take over the world. It'll be huge...huuuuge.
- jackyyll, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1HUEG LIEK XBOX!
- mtrip, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2This game is going to take over the world. It'll be huge...huuuuge.
- longhair, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21My life now has a purpose. To buy this game and play it until I die from lack of sleep, food and water.
Please lord put me in a coma until this game comes out. I can't wait..- CapeKid, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18That's it, I can't wait anymore. I am going to freeze myself.
Butters, find me when Rock Band comes out.- jackyyll, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3What do you mean video games don't exist anymore!?
- CapeKid, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18That's it, I can't wait anymore. I am going to freeze myself.
- Phatern, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2This game is going to be so great. I can't wait to rock out and get written up in my dorm.
- skyshock1, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Tip: Mute the audio until the game starts. Unless you're one of the retards that actually LIKES to hear Beyonce sing. Nothing "Rock" about Beyonce.
- SilentRamble42, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Now we just have to hope that they give us a choice of a guitar or drum bundle instead of charging us $150 for a guitar most of us already have.
- thedharmabum, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Note that this is Rock Band, not GH3. Since Harmonix lost the GH franchise to Neversoft, they may be piqued enough to force people to abandon their GH controllers and make RB's guitars incompatible with GH3, forcing people to pick a side.
- SakisRakis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Isn't it more that they sold it and made a bunch of money than they 'lost it'?
- thedharmabum, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0No... Activison owns the GH franchise. Red Octane, owned by Activision, publishes the game. Harmonix is an independent developer that Red Octane contracted to develop GHI/II. Red Octane gave GHIII to Activision-owned Neversoft to develop instead of Harmonix. Nobody outside the companies knows, for sure, why. Regardless, Harmonix has confirmed that GH controllers will work with Rock Band, so I don't even really know why I'm bothering to reply.
- SakisRakis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Isn't it more that they sold it and made a bunch of money than they 'lost it'?
- keviniskool, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1They said in an interview that they would make it compatible if they needed to.
- guesswhoitis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22Digg needs a video sec.......Oh wait.......
- facelogic, on 10/11/2007, -8/+3looks fun and all...but when does "pr0n star" come out?
- ByronT, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Oh, man... I can't wait to be the vocalist and just completely piss everybody off. The drums do look pretty sweet, though. I hope there's a kick on there.
- rek2005, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I think I read somewhere that there is a kick.
- CheezeMonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1from what i saw on the screen there is. there's a different sort of bar in the drum section when the kick comes in "welcome to the jungle"
- Yankidank, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Wow this looks lame until the last 45 seconds. Horrible way to introduce this game. Right when they get to show the interesting gameplay stuff it cuts off.
- SilentRamble42, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1So is Welcome to the Jungle officially part of it? I've only seen the songs posted on Wikipedia.
- innocentsinner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Looks like they listened to fans and revamped the drum prototype into a trapezoid shape instead of the 4 horizontal ones. Pretty sweet.
- latingirl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I think the way the drums are set up are made to look like quads, which are seen in marching bands
- trashrockx, on 10/11/2007, -8/+2with the amount of time spent playing Guitar Hero or soon this game, they COULD theoretically pick up a REAL guitar and learn to play that...
now the same will go for drummers and bassists...- Folye, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Actually, from what I read in Game Informer, by the time you reach Expert on the drums, you WILL be playing the drums. As in, you could sit down at a real drum set and play the songs. So, enough of that argument, ok?
- kelbear, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Playing the drums on this = playing drums at least.
It may not have the potential for advanced drumming involving numerous cymbals and double-kicking, but regular drumming doesn't need or involve those either.
- halosniper7, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2at first(at the whole other game at the beginning) i was like WTF?
- BaderG, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3There are going to be accusations made that something like this has never been done before by people who have never heard of Guitar Freaks / Drum Mania before.
- BaderG, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3Anyone ever hear of Guitar Freaks / Drum Mania before?
This isn't something revolutionary, but it looks pretty cool. I'm not about to drop $200 just to play it though.- Destinatus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I hate to be one of those people that says they've already been doing this for ages, but I have to agree with you. I like the song selection better too, but that's just me.
- bagboyrebel, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5the appeal is really more about putting it all together, not the originality of the game in my opinion.
- tehjarvis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2My friends will get pissed when I refuse to sing unless it's "Won't Get Fooled Again"
- hakkamacher, on 10/11/2007, -20/+2Gee, let's further the idea that playing this sort of 80's level Whack-a-Mole video game has something to do with actually playing an instrument.... ahg.
Geez, you don't even need the sound on to play it - it's just a regular game controller masquerading as an "instrument", pressing buttons when lights cross a line... that has NOTHING, NOTHING to do with actually playing a real instrument. Nothing.
/ can't wait to hear the first "I play in a band" comment from someone who does this game....
// the decline of civilization continues... "yay, everyone can rock now!"
/// you are massively wasting your time playing this game when you *could* be learning to play THE REAL THING.
Understand that? A REAL INSTRUMENT. That takes ACTUAL ABILITY AND TALENT. That furthers your understanding of music, and actually allows creativity. REAL creativity. WTF????- jamsea, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Um... its a game... if anything it will inspire people to learn real instruments, not the other way around...
- cheersrazer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Dude, chill out. It is just a game.
- treecha02, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3You're assuming that everyone plays these types of games because they desire to play an instrument. A lot of people probably play just because it's a game and it's challenging without a necessary desire to be good at the "real" thing.
- jobenly, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5We don't care. It's fun. No one thinks it's a real guitar. Chill out.
- Raz4Life, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1How long did it take you to be able to play the entire song of Welcome to the Jungle on guitar? I'm going to guess a hell of a lot longer than the 10 minutes it takes on this game.
- Coldfire24, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2But I don't have actual ability or talent am I allowed to play this game?
- portableteejay, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm guessing you're a musician of some sort.
- zetec, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4stop being such a pompous douchebag, hakkamacher. You seem jealous because people want to have fun. Everybody wants to be a rockstar when they grow up, but few have the talent and luck to actually make it. It's a GAME for FUN, you *****. Nobody's pretending they can wail with five frets and a strum bar. (Although the singing and drumming could help develop actual talents in those fields, something you won't get from the guitar play.)
And take your ***** slashies back to fark, asshat. - matt0r, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6well then i guess you shouldn't ever play metal gear solid
WHY DON'T YOU GO OUT AND BUY REAL GUNS AND KILL REAL PEOPLE. THAT TAKES ACTUAL SKILL!!
- latingirl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3When I initially heard about the concept I didn't think that it could actually work.... but after seeing this, I can't wait for it to come out. This is definitely will be an addicting party game.
- Shaflugi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"Addicting"? More like fun. I'd get this if I had the room to play it and 200 dollars to blow on a single game.
- drewish, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1*****
- dogoon, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3Will anybody ever play a real instrument ever again?
- AnimZero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Dammit, I might actually have a reason to get a 360 now.
- dogoon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20"Hey guys you want to start a band!?"
"...not really..."
"Hey you guys wanna go play ROCK BAND on 360?"
"HELL YEAH!!!!" - rdelbel, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Where's the hi-hat?
How am I supposed to use this as a cheap DrumMania controller?
I guess I'll have to stick with IIDX for now :(- 1stJonnyDee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The hi-hat is second from the left of the Rock Band set. I feel that is an error on Harmonix's part. I understand the game is made and enjoyed for it's simplicity, but it's not that complicated to cross that right arm over to a hi-hat and play. Oh well. They aren't going to change it, that's for sure. Of course, I'll still buy the damn thing.
- Coldfire24, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16Our band name will be "Red Lights of Death"
- Inverno, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"For Whom the Dell Tolls"
- mesmeriffic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1*comment illustrating my indifference*
- sexyflanders, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1The screen looks busy but it's everyone hooked up to one xbox I would imagine you get just your stuff on screen. I've got to say it's going to be amazing to play and have fun with.
I wonder if you get virtual STDs like in a real band or 20 kids you didn't know you had until later on in life?
Band Name: The Screaming Wangs of doom! awww yeah ;) IDK how many people though you are going to actualy find to be a singer I wonder if you don't find enough people if you can let the CPU do it or something?
Also I wonder if you always have to be online to play also is it fross connectable the guy made it sound like it was. - TheNik, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The Secondhand Coughdrops will continue their legacy unto Rock Band. Mmmm.
- admanimal, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Official response to the video from Harmonix:
This video was taken from a conference where attendees are generally encouraged to be casual and show off the new stuff they are working on privately. Apparently an attendee videotaped the talk. The trailer was made from an old build of the game quite some time ago for internal purposes- basically to get people working on the game excited. The song was one we have considered for the game but haven?t locked down, and you may have noticed that the trailer footage was made so long ago that the people in the video are playing old instruments and prototypes. I guess what I am saying is- this isn?t official and doesn?t really reflect the final game at all. We?ll be releasing a lot of info next week from much newer builds of the game with finalized songs.- lordbeef, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Not sure why they're so defensive when it looks freakin' sweet!
I guess to not get our hopes up for "welcome to the jungle", but still.- SakisRakis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1So they don't get destroyed by rabid fans shouting about the content in this trailer.
- Inverno, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I don't know anyone personally who *should* be singing "Welcome to the Jungle." Hell, I don't think Axel can do it anymore. Since the singer is the only one who'll need some level of tone perception I hope they go easy on us with vocals.
- diggrim, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0it still looks good...I think thanks to the Internet more game dev companies are using a spiral development model and getting the customers (us) involved (through leaks) earlier
- lordbeef, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Not sure why they're so defensive when it looks freakin' sweet!
- ralphman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Chupa Ma Cabra made it from battle of the bands to Stonehenge, baby! They're the rockin'est!
- FrankieB078, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I WANNA DIP MY BALLS IN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- cynic573, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Hey guys, Guitar Freaks / drummania is just a ripoff of this, right? *joking, don't kill me*
- DarkCovers, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I didn't notice a drum kick. :/
Would be pretty boring without that. Like playing guitar hero without the strum bar.- Folye, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Look again at the drummer's feet, specifically the right foot. Also notice on the center position on screen, when you see the large horizontal bar that drops down under all the notes? That's the drum kick.
- handler, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Sponsored by Microsoft and the guy is on a mac.
- bunnymanjp, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2omg rock band looks soo kool
i wanna get it even though i have no music skills
ive always wanted to play da drums
if i can get some friends to get it im def pickin this up - Helbrecht, on 10/11/2007, -5/+5i don't know why you guys wouldn't just take up real instruments... :/ snooze...
- Harbz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0 Because its a video game.
Why don't people who play Halo just build a suit and shoot off into space somewhere and fight aliens? Because its time-consuming and complicated and not fun. - Crumbeast, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3because this takes 10 minutes to learn and become proficient at, as opposed to months/years of dedication. in other words, it's the exact same reason people play madden instead of joining the nfl.
- SilentRamble42, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Probably because you've never played it. I don't know how many people I know had that mindset until they played it.
- Harbz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0 Because its a video game.
- prwlives, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Looks like the line dividing the measures (or, the fret line) acts as the bass drum indicator. And I think I saw Pete Moon there bouncing his knee, so I think we can safely assume there is a kick pedal.
- tehjarvis, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5One of the best choices I've ever made was learning to play the guitar. People bitch about Guitar Hero and this saying "Why not just pick up real instruments?!" I agree, but I hope some of the people who play these games wonder how Ted Nugent really plays those notes and learns to actually play guitar.
Thanks to the guitar I've joined a band and toured the country multiple times after I got out of high school, that's something I would've never done if I went the college route instead and I don't regret doing it one bit. Learning to play rock music changed my life, if you enjoy Guitar Hero and/or think Rock Band looks awesome, drop some more cash on a guitar bass or drum kit and learn to play, start a band, record some music and play some shows. It's an awesome experience.- SaviourSelf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6An inspirational message brought to you by your friends at Gibson.
- caketank, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's not *how* Ted Nugent plays guitar that I wonder about, it's why. *Why* must Ted Nugent play guitar?
- gnarsty, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0It looks cool, but I could do without the singing. I don't really want to hear someone singing into my ear the whole time especially if they have a crappy voice. I still would like to get it, looks fun.
- Dorepoll, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I just bought (and love) Guitar Hero II for XBOX360. Will that work with rock band?
- boombume, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Longer version on youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9b-8LYLGq8- Shaflugi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Digg this guy up like mad. This video is way better than the one with the ***** second-life ripoff footage.
- LavaHot, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I have one question: The guy said it was built on xbox360 and the ps3. What happened to wii compatibility that was announced?
- techtvforever, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@ Yankidank
Yeah I almost fell asleep halfway through - RasterizedSwede, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Sigh, my mood died when it is confirmed that the drums will be that friggin' stupid. The drums are the easiest part to simulate after the microphone and they have to genuinely screw them up so even the most moronic 5 year old can play them?
I didn't think the drums could become worse than the Konami Drum (home) for Drummania..... -
