THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE

Since the beginning of the 20th century, many Americans have claimed to have seen unexplained aerial phenomena. UFOs have become a fixture in our national psyche with the rise of science fiction films that depict flying saucers like 1951's "The Day The Earth Stood Still."

Many of these sightings can be chalked up to natural or man-made objects like weather balloons or drones but others remain unsolved. Redditor Crash_Recovery created a nifty animated visualization of all of the reports of UFO sightings in the United States from 1910 to 2014 from the National UFO Reporting Center

One of the most perceptive takeaways from this animated chart, made by Redditor mastocles, is that the data "goes crazy" in 1993, which coincidentally was the premiere of Fox's paranormal drama series "The X-Files."
