- PaxRomana, on 11/04/2008, -139/+1869Just did. One more vote for the next president of the United States: Barack Obama.
- ducktomguy, on 11/04/2008, -139/+14What's the point for me? I'm in MA, where Obama will win anyway.
- fleischkopf, on 11/04/2008, -12/+118that's a really good point. hey everybody, don't bother to vote, obama's going to win anyway.
- slvrbullet87, on 11/04/2008, -15/+76I voted today... I voted for McCain in Illinois... it did about as much good as pissing on the sun to put it out.
- blah247, on 11/04/2008, -0/+62You should have other issues on the ballot besides the President pick. I had about 18 picks to do.
- legolas68, on 11/04/2008, -1/+62It's not all about 0bama or McCain. There are plenty of other races (local and state) where your vote can count. Just be sure you do some research before blindly voting for one candidate or another.
- arkboysooner, on 11/04/2008, -3/+44I voted for Obama in Oklahoma. He's still gonna lose here, but by one less vote. You need to get out and help give Barack win as resounding a victory in Massachusetts as McCain will most likely receive here. If you don't, don't bitch if McCain wins when you did nothing to help Obama.
- Bbanda, on 11/04/2008, -1/+21The reason for voting in MA was question 2 stupid. Its all about the pots.
- wendelgee2, on 11/04/2008, -5/+40Because our forefathers died to give you the right to vote, you spoiled little child. This country doesn't ask that much of us, but it does ask that we get off our asses and vote once every 4 years. Is that really too much to ask?
- joatmon07734, on 11/04/2008, -4/+3Sounds like a Simpson's episode I saw once.
- ronaldinho, on 11/04/2008, -0/+33I'm in MA and I voted. While I agree that Obama has no chance of losing, I did vote for the new laws for marijuana. That's a big one for me
- OwdenBowden, on 11/04/2008, -3/+28Vote Anyway. Obama just might not win.
- whahaa, on 11/04/2008, -6/+2@wendelgee2
i thought they ask us to vote every year. - plainOldFool, on 11/04/2008, -3/+15I'm in Jersey and voted McCain. He's got no chance of winning this state but it is important to understand that there are millions of people on this planet that don't have this right.
- scubaman5000, on 11/04/2008, -2/+19The point is to send a message. We need Obama to win in a record breaking landslide so that everyone in Washington understands that the American people are tired of the ***** of the last 8 years.
Obama is going to win, but it matters by how much he wins as well. - theaceoffire, on 11/04/2008, -0/+22Voted for Obama in Alabama... Not that I expect it to help.
- wastern, on 11/04/2008, -0/+6Obama is will only win if those people they projected to vote, i.e. everyone, acually gets out there and votes.
If every Obama supporter thinks its a lock, gets lazy and doesn't vote while all the McCain people go vote because they think he needs the help...what happens? McCain takes your state and its your fault. Do you want that weighing over your head the next 4 years - Tiak, on 11/04/2008, -0/+4Then vote to change the popular vote... People still look at it, and care about it. A 10% margin in the popular vote is a definitive statement by the people.
- HonestAbe, on 11/04/2008, -1/+21. Popular vote
2. Other elections that happen on the same day - puncturevine, on 11/04/2008, -1/+4Holy $%^#$% it's people like this that don't "bother" voting that handed the presidency to bush in 2000.
Vote Vote Vote. Make this a landslide. It's your right and your duty. - Akronos, on 11/04/2008, -1/+2Arkboysooner, have you ever heard of the electoral college. Popular vote is irrelevant, and in 3 cases, the most recent being 2000, the winner of the popular vote has lost the election. In states that are definitely going a certain direction, i.e. clear cut red or blue states, it does NOT matter how many votes over the majority threshold a candidate gets. All the candidate needs is a small margin of victory, over many states. Large margins of victory in a few states is not as useful as small margins of victory in those states and many states.
So really, there is no need for ducktomguy to vote in Ma, especially if there is something else more important that he needs to do. But he still should if he wishes to feel like he is making an impact (even though he really isn't). Your vote really matters in swing states. Otherwise, not so much.

- jhodapp, on 11/04/2008, -44/+28I hope you guys are happy with yourselves. As long as a Democrat or Republican is in office, we'll just get more wars, more deficit spending, more bailouts, more corporatism, more corruption. The answer is less government, not more!
- blacktriangle, on 11/04/2008, -35/+16Absolutely. Obama, has guaranteed more wars and a direct confrontation with Russia! But, lets all just ignore that since he is the saviour of the world.
- arunforce, on 11/04/2008, -11/+24Yes lets judge the egg before it hatches.
- revjustin2, on 11/04/2008, -7/+34And who do you suggest I vote for, then?
Look, I get it. Repubs and Dems are pretty much the same thing when it comes to politics. I hate the two party "system" as much as anyone else. However, that being said, I am not going to vote for a third party candidate who has no grassroots level support. If they won, they couldn't get anything done. Congress would basically walk all over them unchecked and I don't think that this is the election for this kind of crap. Yes, the system in broken. Yes, politicians are corrupt, but NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR THIS. Get to work and get the grassroots level support you need and then we'll talk. For now, I'm supporting a viable option. - jhodapp, on 11/04/2008, -12/+5arunforce: I don't have to judge the egg before it hatches, look at his Senate voting record! It's very obvious that everything I said about him will be true.
- jhodapp, on 11/04/2008, -7/+4revjustin2: well that's where we disagree then. Government is not the solution to anything! I think it's a good thing when the government can't get anything done! That will leave individuals to actually be able to do stuff instead of our stupid paternalistic government. Hasn't your mom ever told you that somebody needs to go first in making a change? If you vote 3rd party and they win (or gain enough support to influence the debate), then you've already won! Admitting defeat and saying the system is corrupt but I'll participate within the *rules* is ludicrous!
- OwdenBowden, on 11/04/2008, -12/+3Then Vote REPUBLICAN.
- mrsteveman1, on 11/04/2008, -0/+10I judge eggs before they hatch all the time.

and the system is by no means perfect.
but i think there will be less if you whent with obama.
your thinking idealistically, which is ok, but given the current situation you should try to be practical.
compared to bush or mcain he may as well be the saint people are making him out to be. - Demener, on 11/04/2008, -1/+5I wanted to vote Nader again. But the thought of an angry senile old man with an ignorant religious zealot at his side scares the ***** out of me. I'm in FL, a battleground state, my vote actually means quite a bit down here (unless it gets 'lost' somehow). If I was in a state like Ill or MA I'd vote 3rd party without a second thought.
I may not like Obama because of FISA and the bailout, but at least he's intelligent, and worked hard to get where he's at. I respect him and that at least is something in the right direction. - n00bzilla, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2revjustin2 RON PAUL
- DiggzDE, on 11/04/2008, -5/+64Went out over an hour early before work to vote this morning, took me 15 minutes, at most. Most worthwhile time I've ever spent doing something lately.
AND I TRIPLE CHECKED MY BALLOT. DO IT!- DentThat, on 11/04/2008, -10/+1that was the most worthwhile? Damn you need a life
- Timmyftw, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3Helping to decide the next president of the united states is very worthwhile. Im not even american and here in Australia we have 2 out of our 4 free to air channels covering the election all day. Many people outside the US are going to be affected by the next person in the white house.
- kiwijam, on 11/05/2008, -1/+1You people can vote all you want, Democrat, Republican, but you're going to continue to get the status quo.
What you have is the illusion of democracy where false choices are treated as real. It's no wonder that after years of the same names and slogans ("change") being drilled in your heads, you parrot it all and actually believe you're going to get real change for the better, that you're actually doing something about the current situation. The powers that control both sides intend to keep it that way.
Yes, America. Keep voting for "the lesser of two evils" if you'd like to continue getting more evil.
This time around, you're going to get change alright. It's going to be crushing government intrusion on every facet of your life, a police state, death of the US dollar, socialism, and on and on. "So this is how liberty dies....with thunderous applause." - DiggzDE, on 11/05/2008, -1/+1lol. Socialism? Really? Death of the US Dollar? Seriously, Really? Man, what the hell are you smoking, cuz if it removes me that far from reality, I may just want to try it for a little bit. Just to see what it's like to be that crazy.
- kiwijam, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2Hmm, so I must be crazy when I see our dollar and economy tanking, when I see unprovoked wars going on and more being discussed. I'm crazy when I see laws being passed that destroy the founding rule of law in this country.
I'm crazy when I see a $700 billion bailout being passed which will allow dollars to flood the market alla the private for-profit Federal Reserve, which will lead to massive inflation, leaving your dollar in the gutter.
The bailout is a socialism rearing it's head in this country. Think about it - the government just gobbled up entire financial institutions, several times over. Then they put out this bailout. They don't just have $700 billion just sitting around. It's going to get it through taxes, your taxes....but not taxes they're collecting right now. It's taxes that are deffered into the future, over the rest of your life. These are going to be high taxes, and you have no choice in the matter, neither do all other Americans who will foot the bill with you. All for the greater good of the state. Ah, socialism.
And on and on. Am I imagining these things?
Learn to read and do independent research. The talking heads on tv are there to entertain and keep you docile. Nothing more.
Obama is not going to change these things anymore than the last guy. Learn about The Project for a New American Century, read about the Council on Foreign Relations which Obama belongs to. Hell, get your info anywhere but from the mouth piece trash on tv. They've kept most of us distracted on Obama drama and it's damn effective.
Without giving due diligence to the other side of these issues, you're going to read these words and think as you did in your comment. That's ok. I just encourage you to be open to the idea that things aren't the way they appear.
- noblepaladin, on 11/04/2008, -19/+13I voted, but too bad I don't live in one of the few swing states where voting actually matters.
- joatmon07734, on 11/04/2008, -3/+27One of the biggest reasons for a popular vote election instead of the college. I'm sure you'd feel a much larger sense of patriotism if you felt like your vote really mattered.
- macdady843, on 11/04/2008, -14/+5@ joatmon07734
Popular election would be horrible.. the fate of the presidency would be decided by like 5 - 7 states (the ones with the highest population) most likely if we were using that system. - drewbe121212, on 11/04/2008, -0/+20macdady843 ... see, I never understood that argument. While the majority of people do reside in that state, it isn't the state that is deciding it, it is the people of that state.
It needs to stop being looked at a geographical stance and more just the total counts. Doesn't matter from what part of the US you are from. - whahaa, on 11/04/2008, -0/+22@macdady843
no, the fate of the presidency would be decided by the majority of the people in the country. - mrsteveman1, on 11/04/2008, -0/+15The bigger states have more electoral college votes anyway.
I see absolutely no reason why bigger states would somehow have an advantage just because more people live there. That is the most twisted crap. We live in the U.S, and if you count the votes whoever gets more, should win. Simple. - jmuh, on 11/04/2008, -0/+10I agree with drewbe. Why should I have to physically move to feel represented? Is it inconceivable that an individual favoring small government might desire to live in NY or that someone who is pro-choice might want to live in Texas?
I am ambivalent about the electoral college, but this "the fate of the presidency would be decided by like 5 - 7 states" just doesn't fly with me. - TnTBass, on 11/04/2008, -3/+4The reason behind not doing a popular vote is because people in the same geographic areas tend to have more similar views with their neighbor, as opposed to someone across the country.
As an example, a lot of Californians may want to legalize marijuana, but that doesn't mean those in New York do as well.
The electoral college is a better way of representing ones area, without tipping the balance due to population sizes. You may not like it, but group think plays heavily when it comes to elections. - cuppyCake, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3As a leftist voter in right-leaning Montana, I feel you. But it was interesting to see CNN move our state to 'tossup.' If Ron Paul splits the Republican vote (and Nader has less of an effect on the Democratic), Obama could take the state. There was a huge turnout in my city election, and hopefully a large portion of them joined me in voting for Obama.
- mrsteveman1, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3"The reason behind not doing a popular vote is because people in the same geographic areas tend to have more similar views with their neighbor, as opposed to someone across the country."
What does that have to do with anything?
Explain to me how counting each vote, and comparing the total votes for each presidential candidate, somehow favors specific areas. Your vote counts no matter who lives next door.
From Wiki: "Most states allow voters to choose between statewide slates of electors pledged to vote for the presidential and vice presidential tickets of various parties; the ticket that receives the most votes statewide 'wins' all of the votes cast by electors from that state."
You tell me how this in any way makes it possible for a minority voice to matter in a state that has just cast all of its electoral votes to one side simply because a majority in the state voted that way. - macdady843, on 11/04/2008, -0/+2TnTBass summed it up pretty well. I don't see why the electoral college is so bad.. if the majority of the people in the state want a particular candidate they will vote that way and that candidate will get those votes. Plus I think that when you think about certain groups of people.. rich.. poor.. etc, why would you want them to have more of a say in who gets elected... i think its bad for them to vote according to their situation and not for the good of the country as a whole. I think It should be the say of the majority of the states in the country since different states have different agendas/government programs/job opportunities that may be offered by a candidate. I don't know if that makes sense but that's the best way I can put it.
P.S. I know this happened in 2004 but how can one win the electoral college without winning the popular vote.. doesn't really make sense to me. If the majority of the people in that states voted one way how could the electoral votes not go to him. (And i know that the electoral is not bound to vote by what the state's popular vote is.. but is that what happened?) - jahesus, on 11/04/2008, -0/+2the electoral college is not legally bound in any way shape or form to agree with their states voters. It has happened twice before (sorry, i do not remember the election years) where the electoral votes of a state did NOT go with the states wishes.
- GianDoe, on 11/04/2008, -0/+4it has to be relatively fair for the individual states, without the electoral college some state's votes would be ostensibly worthless. aside from the fact states would have never joined a union under that principle to begin with, it's still not any more fair today to shut entire states out of the voting process...popular vote wouldn't be fair to states with low populations. regardless of your politics i doubt anyone would agree that the votes of an entire state would be essentially worthless, that'd be much...much worse.
let me say this another way from a more progressive angle. just imagine if california and new york were all republican. if you lived in a democratic state...how'd you like it if those two states could basically dictate what's what for the rest of the country? that would be substantially more unfair imo.
guys i voted for gore in 04...so the electoral college doesn't always produce the outcomes i'm looking for ...but there are no perfect solutions in life, just ones that suck less than the alternatives.
that being said, we are all lucky as americans today - so regardless of who you vote for today, at least friggin VOTE! my hope is that Barack Obama is our next president, but good luck to all. - mrsteveman1, on 11/04/2008, -1/+1"it has to be relatively fair for the individual states, without the electoral college some state's votes would be ostensibly worthless."
Again you guys keep trying to divide this by STATE, it is the INDIVIDUAL that matters here. Counting each vote does not, in any way, diminish a states standing, because the state has nothing to do with it, the people living in it are what matters.
"if you lived in a democratic state...how'd you like it if those two states could basically dictate what's what for the rest of the country? that would be substantially more unfair imo."
In fact the concerns you stated aren't resolved by the electoral college. California has ***** more electoral votes than a smaller state, they ALREADY have more say in the election than a small state. This is a reflection of the number of people in that state, but it doesn't somehow equalize a small state against a large state.
I'm waiting for someone to prove me wrong, because i would like someone to do exactly that, right now i see significant problems with the way things work. - acumenprobitas, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3With the electoral college, states with smaller populations have a larger electoral votes per population ratio than larger states. This is because the number of electoral votes comes from the number of reps in the house (determined by population) added to the number of reps in the senate (two per state, regardless of population). For example, if a state only has enough people for one congressional district, it still has three electoral votes. The purpose of this is so smaller states issues don't get left out of the agendas of the candidates. California may have more electoral votes, but it takes less people to get more electoral votes in the smaller states.
California has 55 electors, and a population of 33,871,648 (2000 census). 1.6 x 10^-6 electors/person
Wyoming has 3 electors, and a population of 493,782 (2000 census). 6.1 x 10^-6 electors/person
So a persons vote in Wyoming technically has approx. 3.8 times the weight of a vote from California.
The electoral college sucks for large states. - mrsteveman1, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1So in effect we are multiplying the votes of people who live in small states so the state doesn't feel left out. Nice.
- dbrans17, on 11/04/2008, -0/+0I agree with the argument that the electoral college is outdated. It was originally designed for a time when state's rights were an actuality, instead of the theoretical existence they enjoy today. 'Back in the day,' state's were individuals, and the electoral college was a great way of representing this. But today, with where you live in the country having less and less affect on lifestyle/governmental restrictions, the electoral college fails to truly represent the people. So yeah, it would take a constitutional amendment, but I agree that abolishing the outdated electoral college would be a great step in streamlining modern elections.
- GianDoe, on 11/06/2008, -0/+1"So in effect we are multiplying the votes of people who live in small states so the state doesn't feel left out. Nice. "
that's exactly right mr steveman, that's what they do... listen man, like i said, it's not perfect...but remember these are individual states who joined a union and they are still very much different as much as they are the same. just crack an american history book brother, it's not a mystery. the constitution gives most of the power to the states, our founders understood that centralizing government power too heavily in one area causes problems, every time.
- Izzy545, on 11/04/2008, -11/+67I just got back from voting as well, not much of a line where I was, as I left it started filling up though.
This was my first time voting, Obama/Biden '08!- tallguyg, on 11/04/2008, -2/+15congratulations!
- AtlanticVortex, on 11/04/2008, -12/+5Screw you!
- KingGorilla, on 11/04/2008, -22/+52Support Obama! We need more troops in Afghanistan!
- logic6, on 11/04/2008, -5/+38Why are people digging this down? Obama vehemently supports moving troops from Iraq (non-winnable situation) to Afghanistan (very winnable, very necessary war). War sucks, Obama knows that. But, there is a time and a place.
- saranagati, on 11/04/2008, -0/+9Why exactly is afghanistan a necessary war? I'm pretty sure we could bring home all our troops and send in a few special ops teams to dismantle any real threat they pose against us.
- Grumps, on 11/04/2008, -0/+7Didn't you listen to what Brian told Peter Griffin at ground zero?
- NicholasBentley, on 11/04/2008, -1/+4No. I think Afghanistan is the same no-win situation as Iraq. Look at the past history. All foreign forces, including the Russians, have failed in Afghanistan except for the post 9/11 US attack which was short and sharp. The opportunity to finish the job quickly has passed. Now we we need new thinking and new solutions with minimum military intervention.
- puncturevine, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3At least afghanistan is where the 911 terrorists actually are.
- chump, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1Most of them came from Saudi Arabia, why aren't you out voting?
- NoMercy, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1you want me to tell you way people dugg him down? Its because people thought he was making a joke because they don't actually know what each candidates views are, they're just voting with the populous. Btw there's still going to be troops there 'when obama wins', he called them necessary post war troops.
- metaliq, on 11/04/2008, -30/+7I sarcastically voted for McCain and Palin.

- Stewdean, on 11/04/2008, -2/+6I don't think anyone hates him, he's just too old school to be able to handle the new nature of international conflicts.
Problem is not so much him as the party behind him, the nationalistic and religous edge to those on the right does not site well with those outside of the US (at least no in the UK).
If Obama got in the US national security would instantly get better because he is not antagonistic and is seen as more worldly than McCain, even though McCain is more wildly traveled. It's also some of the things about taxing and terrorism, outside of the US the whole terrorism thing make little sense. You got attacked once but a bunch of guys who didnt really belong to anyone country and so got your revenge by invading another country with no links to the attackers. So when I see Republicans saying 'we need to win this war' the question is - is that even possible? I would say there is no situation in which the US can win the Iraq war because there is no 'win' state to that conflict. The only win is to get the hell out of Dodge. So anyone saying they need to win that war by NOT pulling out I feel is slightly crazy. - MegaSmack, on 11/04/2008, -1/+6"the democrat's favorite republican"
McCain isn't pushing himself as the same candidate that he was when he started this election. He went way to far right for my tastes. - theaceoffire, on 11/04/2008, -2/+8"This man is a bona-fide American hero, and you fools have let the media manipulate you into hating him."
No, McCain worked hard to make me dislike him. I had no opinion of him till he started insulting others. - solmakou, on 11/04/2008, -0/+4I respected McCain I respected him right up until he became a candidate instead of the man he has been for the past 30 years. I suppose he needed to change to get support from his base. That's fine, but don't expect those that are independent to stick with your changes.
- fmaxwell, on 11/04/2008, -1/+6I went into this election cycle respecting McCain and believing him to be a man of character who would probably win -- despite my views being diametrically opposed to his on many issues.
He has turned into the lowest, most despicable candidate who has been fielded in quite a few years. He hired the same firm that Bush used to slander and smear him in 2000. He tried to portray Obama as a pedophile because Obama voted in favor of education to teach children about "bad touch" and what to do when they were being abused. He tried to fuel the fires of bigotry with the whisper campaign about Obama being a Muslim (as if being a Muslim were grounds to be disqualified from being elected President). He tried to portray Obama as being inexperienced, naive, and lacking qualifications -- and then chose Sarah Palin to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency. He harped on the non-issues of William Ayers (voted Chicago Citizen of the Year during the time when Obama served with him on a Republican-funded education initiative). He tried to make Obama's pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, an issue and "evidence" that Obama was anti-american -- and then chose Sarah Palin, who's pastor a reverent Muthee, was proud of having driven a "witch" from the Kenyan town where he previously preached.
He ran his campaign based on opinion polls and focus groups rather than beliefs and convictions. He was against offshore drilling until the polls and focus groups told him it was a winning strategy, then, three weeks later, reversed himself. He was pro-choice and then decided that the was anti-abortion because that's where he saw votes he could grab. He was against the Bush tax cuts and the deficit spending until he realized that tax cuts could buy votes -- then he wanted to make them permanent. He's flip-flopped countless times throughout this, taking whatever position seemed to be more popular at the moment.
He is without character, scruples, or morals.
- tdogg241, on 11/04/2008, -3/+98I just read this letter on The Stranger's website and it brought a tear to my eye:
http://slog.thestranger.com/2008/11/letter_from_ne ...
"I live in Lincoln, Nebraska, the heart of one of the reddest states in the country. I have voted in the same polling location for the last 8 years. Every election, my wife and I are the first two people at the poll when it opens (we like to vote immediately). Today, when we arrived a half-hour before the polling place opened, there were already fourteen people in line. The poll workers were astonished, my wife and I were shocked – and the line kept growing. When we left, after voting, the line was longer than it was when we got there. This has NEVER happened before.
Ahead of us in line was three-generations of an African American family. It was the first time voting for all three of them. The youngest, who graduated high school last year, was calling his friends and getting them out of bed while we waited in line. He was describing the polling place and giving directions for getting there. After he voted, he had probably the biggest grin I’ve ever seen and the poll workers (all over 65 and white) were shaking his hand and congratulating him for voting. I love voting and vote in every election, but I will never forget seeing his smile and I have a suspicion that I will see him again at the next election."- Aadain, on 11/04/2008, -0/+12*sniff* got something in my eye...
- crgnetworks, on 11/04/2008, -1/+18That's what she said!
- TheFrozenOne, on 11/04/2008, -19/+5lets see. they had never voted before. i wonder what made them vote this time. i bet none of them know the issues other than theres a black guy running for president. yeah. this story brings a tear to my eye too. people voting based on race.
- revjustin2, on 11/04/2008, -2/+9@TheFrozenOne - Jump to conclusions much?
- TheFrozenOne, on 11/04/2008, -8/+4i think thats a fair assumption. they all have never voted before. then once a black guy is running for POTUS, they all vote. if you cant see what has happened, you need to open your eyes.
- tdogg241, on 11/04/2008, -0/+9TheFrozenOne: One of them just finished high school, so this is likely the first chance he's had to vote. Regardless, your assumption that this trio of black people is uninformed and are only voting for "one of their own" is pretty racist of you.
- recruz, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3This election makes me so proud to be an American.
- BobAlmightyX, on 11/04/2008, -0/+2I happen to live in Lincoln, and this makes me so sincerely happy you've no idea. I got up this morning and went to vote at my usual voting place. Virtually every election since I started voting the place has been all but dead. On year, I asked the poll worker to flip to the end of the voter registration book that lists all of the people in the polls district that are registered and was appalled by the number that were listed, but how few had been there to vote and sign their name.
This morning I had to wait in line. YAY democracy!

- Aadain, on 11/04/2008, -0/+2A 90% turn out would be fraking amazing! Don't think it would happen, but if it did, it would be talked about for centuries to come.

- Myonosken, on 11/04/2008, -4/+16I'm English. I hate American politics and everything it stands for. From their utterly ***** foreign and economic policies to their media controlled selection process.
That said I have the common sense to realise this election might finally solve ten years of ***** and trouble. Heck, it might even warm me to US politics if it goes right.
Oh and you want to know what people outside of the US are saying? "I hope Obama wins but its America. They're all racist". You've all got a lot of work ahead of you if you want to sort out the horrible image you give to everyone else.- Portwineboy, on 11/04/2008, -2/+12Is that what the rest of the world is saying? We're racist? Like the french (muslims), germans (turks), brits (east asians). We're the most homogenized society in modern history and have a surprising small amount of racial strife to boot. Look in your own backyard Mr. Brit if you want to find marginalized minority groups.
I'm glad our election will "warm (you) to US politics if it goes right." Unfortunately, we don't have a King or Queen, so your opinion of "going right" really matters little. - revjustin2, on 11/04/2008, -1/+6Americans don't exactly hold the patent on racism.
- burketo, on 11/04/2008, -1/+10Listen mate, you might want to take a moment to think about your own history before getting "holier than thou" about the yanks. The brits don't exactly have a stunning record in foreign affairs either!
that said, i'm still aghast that bush got a second term. - HonestAbe, on 11/04/2008, -2/+5British. Empire.

- supahbaaad, on 11/04/2008, -2/+8i can't vote cos i'm not a citizen yet. so i have a grandma who's 90 yrs old and wasn't planning to vote cos she said the polling place is too far from hers- - so i'm going to change my schedule around today and get out of the house early before i got to work and bring my grandma to vote. because i can't even though i've been here years, and years and i pay a ridiculous amount of taxes that i don't even get to seee!!!!!!

- GianDoe, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1eh so assuming their all politically equal - you're talking about a notable academic, a war hero, and george bush's son respectively. not really so equal from that angle. now, if you had to hire someone for the world's most grueling executive job, which one would you pick sparky?
i dugg you up. - GianDoe, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1hello grammar experts - please allow me to correct so you can sleep tonight: their, it most certainly should have been they're.
i dugg me up too - Dulcinea80, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1Ya... All politicians are the same... and the Clinton administration and the Bush administration were pretty much identical right?
- kiwijam, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2Finally, a voice of reason in this Obama lovefest. You people can vote all you want, Democrat, Republican, but you're going to continue to get the status quo.
What you have is the illusion of democracy where false choices are treated as real. It's no wonder that after years of the same names and slogans ("change") being drilled in your heads, you parrot it all and actually believe you're doing something about the current situation. The powers that control both sides intend to keep it that way.
Yes, America. Keep voting for "the lesser of two evils" if you'd like to continue getting more evil. - sccrplyr40, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1i pick a third party GianDoe.

- NinaOdell, on 11/04/2008, -29/+233I dug your comment. I'm a supporter of Senator Obama, but you said nothing inappropriate and people shouldn't digg you down just because they disagree with you.
- theberlindoctor, on 11/04/2008, -6/+62I'm an Obama Supoorter and I completely agree. No reason to be dugg down.
- Renian, on 11/04/2008, -6/+20Also agree.

- scubaman5000, on 11/04/2008, -17/+55Palin is attached to that ticket. Voting for her is HIGHLY inappropriate and irresponsible.
- diggproof, on 11/04/2008, -7/+25I buried him because I don't want my health benefits being taxed
- TalkGibberish, on 11/04/2008, -12/+9Diggproof: And how exactly will Burring him prevent that? Its not like you just voted against McCain/Palin by hitting that little red button
- caramba420, on 11/04/2008, -6/+15"...and people shouldn't digg you down just because they disagree with you."
Of course they should. That's like saying that one shouldn't vote against a candidate just because one disagrees with him. - Rikkochet, on 11/04/2008, -1/+16I bury comments that don't contribute anything to a thread.
Yelling out slogans is one of those. - leonwho, on 11/04/2008, -5/+3Finally, NinaODell, someone with a bit of sense.
- napalm9295, on 11/04/2008, -2/+8thats the point of digging down. you bury comments you disagree with.
BURIED - snverhallen, on 11/04/2008, -1/+3agreed!
- Jareth86, on 11/04/2008, -2/+8Isn't that the point of the comment digging system?
- kday, on 11/04/2008, -0/+8I will digg down a comment that says "McCain/Palin 2008" or "Obama/Biden 2008".
They are comments that don't contribute anything or provide any information or intellect. - dennugsmello15, on 11/04/2008, -0/+7Agreed, bunch of partisan hacks on digg.
- AnalJustice, on 11/04/2008, -0/+0buried cuz u said dug instead of dugg

- oo7evan, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1Agree with cobophers. Let everyone who is not restricting or taking away from a conversation speak.
- JohnsonGotOwned, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1People buried him, because the point of digging comments is to say whether or not you agree with the person. As you most likely know, most Diggers disagree with Senator McCain's ideas, so they Dugg his comment down.
- andrewlotta, on 11/04/2008, -7/+36I'm am Obama supporter, and apparently voting day is the one day McCain supporter comments may possibly be tolerated.
- silverzone, on 11/04/2008, -9/+51People. For those burying this guy, you are engaging in the same activity you all get mad about. By burying this guy you are censoring. You should all be ashamed. (By the way I have already voted for Obama)
- kenedamick, on 11/04/2008, -6/+13Dude - you realize you can still 'show' his post to read it, right? It's not like he's barred from the internet.
- silverzone, on 11/04/2008, -6/+9How many times do you hit show when someone's been buried 51 times? exactly.
- whahaa, on 11/04/2008, -3/+7set your preferences to show all comments, thus eliminating censorship from the universe once and for all.
- jmuh, on 11/04/2008, -2/+7"By burying this guy you are censoring."
This is only a problem for people who already choose censorship. I keep all comments open so that I can read all of them and decide for myself whether I want to digg or bury them. - Geography, on 11/04/2008, -2/+11"How many times do you hit show when someone's been buried 51 times? exactly."
Often. To see if I need to make it -52. - beesaretasty, on 11/04/2008, -2/+5No offense buddy, but that comment doesn't make sense on a site like digg. Should we all just give everybody the thumbs up? Stop trying to inhibit peoples freedom of expression. The mob rules here.
- kenedamick, on 11/04/2008, -6/+13Dude - you realize you can still 'show' his post to read it, right? It's not like he's barred from the internet.

Oh, I buried you not for the sake of burying, but digg/bury thing in this thread reflects the Obama/McCain supporters. And hell yeah, it is obvious that Obama's all the way at the top. - carlnewton, on 11/04/2008, -1/+10I don't live in America, so I won't be voting for anyone, but just out of curiosity, what makes McCain worthy of your vote? This is a serious question and I don't intend to sound as though I'm against McCain.
- geogeer, on 11/04/2008, -1/+2I don't live in the US either, but what makes Obama worthy of your vote?
- carlnewton, on 11/04/2008, -0/+4I don't think he would be. You can still choose from one of the other 12 candidates, right?
- WARRI0RWITHIN, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1well, McCain, as a senator, has voted with the majority of Arizonans about 88% of the time.
Obama, as a senator, has voted with the majority of his state about 13% of the time.
so, if I want a President who will do what the majority of Americans want, I have to vote for McCain.

- otbeverly, on 11/04/2008, -4/+3That sounds like something McDonalds would sell at an Alabama football game (Or to Alabama fans in the state).

then i thought... "Pie is good. What is he trying to say here." - zip000, on 11/04/2008, -2/+3I actually think we ended up with the two best candidates out of the field.
I liked Clinton and Edwards a lot, and I probably only disliked Romney a little more than I disliked McCain. Giuliani was a bit of a joke, and while I like Ron Paul's integrity, I disagree with him on too many points.
With Romney, I always am waiting for his face to fall off to reveal the robot underneath.

As opposed to the other 90% of the population who seem to be OK with getting off their fat asses and rip themselves away from their TV once every four years? Ron Paul was completely ignored on TV, but he managed to take a substantial percentage of the votes in most states. Yeah, he didn't actually win, but he kicked Giuliani's ass in many states. That's got to count for something.
Unlike Paul, Obama has had tons of coverage. So most people don't know who Bob Barr is, but everyone knows who Obama is. Obama will win. Not that I'm especially pleased with that, but he's better than McCain by a long shot.

Ill explain, Starting way back in the 30-40s, people did what they were told and belived everything they heard in the media, it can easily be seen by the criminalization of marijuana. Now later they had kids, born in the 50s-60s, these were later the hippies of the 60-70s, which brought with it open thinking, but it was still not the majority. Later they had kids, my generation, in the 80s you could sorta of see something but couldnt make it out b/c the 80s were very cloudy, now were in the 90s were in school, we start to question everything, later in 2000 Bush beats Gore, it was close and a close victory, but, our numbers were not favored. Then in 2004, that was a step backwards, there was no one who could appose Bush, no one that could properly represent what was soon to come. Now in 2008 we are the majority, unlike our brothers in 2000, we are at the point of feeling mistreated, being represented by the thoughts of our grandparents, and now we have a big reason to vote, it has all fallen into place, this election will show mass numbers of young voters, Obama has stepped up to the plate now its our turn.

I left work an hour early figuring I was going to wait in line for an hour. Got there at 6:30pm, rolled into the polling place, 2 sec wait, took 60 secs to place my votes (filled out template mailed this morning and just copied my votes), 10 secs to submit it, and got my [wasteful to the environment] sticker. Out the door by 6:34pm. Now home at 6:55p. Thank you all... Compared to my last 5 voting experiences (3 in DC, 2 in SoCal): easiest voting experience EVAR!

- Orlandin, on 11/04/2008, -0/+14It is good to see people getting interested in the process even before they are old enough to vote. Each election has been stronger and more important than the last. ignored global warming and the dependence on foreign oil etc.

- rrasco, on 11/04/2008, -4/+3They were on the electronic ballet I used. Ron Paul For President!!! It wont happen, but I voted.
- Akronos, on 11/04/2008, -2/+2In the NY absentee ballot, there was a black space underneath the names of all the candidates, and I wrote it in there.
And it's pretty funny that rrasco is getting dugg down for voting for Ron Paul. I did too, so go ahead and bury me for not voting for Obama.
- smpx, on 11/04/2008, -0/+4Go and get your friends who have yet to vote... to vote! Go! NOW!
- Snakebane, on 11/04/2008, -1/+4Why give the republicans two extra weeks to change your vote?
- smergs, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1Hmm. Surprised that I got buried for that comment.
- kevinrose, on 11/04/2008, -25/+137You know... this is real, and not for play...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ4ig6EgpAk- trammell, on 11/04/2008, -5/+25I'm 'a vote Obama way.
- NinaOdell, on 11/04/2008, -11/+2The video is kinda embarrassing but the tune is kinda tight. I'd love to hear it in a club (if I did such things anymore).
Having said that, I don't think the dude's career is going to blow up on this one lol- meets, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1i liked the tune better when it was an ice cube song...

- yossariantwin, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3its a pretty dumb video, i'm still gonna vote obama, but in my own way.
- semperfidoordi, on 11/04/2008, -0/+4for real real? not for play play?
- duo8675309, on 11/04/2008, -0/+4All I'm gonna say is that the production quality for that video doesn't match that of the song.

- hunterlaker, on 11/04/2008, -214/+303Got my sticker... a modern day badge of honor. McCain '08!
- PunkPortrais, on 11/04/2008, -21/+177People don't digg someone down just because you don't like his choice. That's the kind of closed mindedness that makes this world a ***** place to live in. I didn't vote for McCain but you sir just got a thumbs up from me because you stood up for what you believe in- in what is surely and Obama rich environment.
- snuggl, on 11/04/2008, -32/+3so its ok to do whatever you want, hurting whoever you want as long as you stand for it and are proud about it? cheers for that
- revjustin2, on 11/04/2008, -0/+24@snuggl - umm....I think if you turn around, you'll see the point that you just missed flying away.
- Kravin, on 11/04/2008, -1/+9@Snugg
That's not what he's saying. At all. - protodon, on 11/04/2008, -1/+13***** that, I'll open-mindedly dislike whoever i want!
- Nitrouz, on 11/04/2008, -4/+7We'll just keep him at zero then
- drewbe121212, on 11/04/2008, -2/+4@snuggle - It's ok. I like the media thinking for me too.
- lennybird, on 11/04/2008, -0/+5Snugg, if you're not trolling, you surely missed the obvious fact: standing up for McCain is not directly hurting anyone. Freedom should only be abridged when it interacts with another person's freedom, and standing up for McCain is not doing that.
