YouTube - John McCain: "I graduated fifth from the bottom of my class"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srbX26vp57c
What about the fact that over 100 former lobbyists work for the McCain campaign? What about the fact that McCain makes up LIES about Obama wanting to give sex ed to kindergartners?
What qualifies John McCain? The fact that he was a POW 30 years ago? What about the fact that McCain voted alongside Bush 100% of the time in 2008, and 95% of the time in the last 8 years, and 90% of the time over his entire career. "Maverick"?
Obama will lower taxes for 95% of all Americans. If you think that's socialist, you are a dumbass. Maybe you should be asking yourself why the disparity between the rich and poor is growing at such an alarming rate. Why is the middle class disappearing? - duopy3, on 09/16/2008, -26/+0i ask 8 questions, i get 0 answers
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 09/16/2008, -1/+17Actually, Marxist ideology has to do with class struggle not federal tax structure in a democratic nation. Marx essentially said the rich exist to become richer on the backs of poor. Obama says the people at the bottom are struggling to eat (see, that's called "need." They need a break so they can pay their heat this winter without starving), and giving some money back to the majority will do a lot more for the economy than cutting the rich minority even bigger tax breaks. Then again, if you actually knew anything about Marx you'd realize Marx was right about a lot of things. How other people took his ideas and twisted them to suit their needs is another discussion, but just know how ignorant you look every time you mention Marx with regard to Obama's tax plan.
- heystoopid, on 09/16/2008, -0/+9The real problem is "You can't handle the truth!" as your version of the current reality of the situation at hand has been substituted with your own which is in another surreal imaginary alternate dimension .
- smacksaw, on 09/16/2008, -0/+5You know, while Affirmative Action offends my sense of fairness, in that particular instance, the ends justifies the means.
A well-off white guy who can't get into the very best Ivy League university doesn't go deal crack because he had to go to Brown instead of Harvard. But a black or Hispanic male who can't get into university at all is not likely to take the next step, and neither are their children, extended family, communities, etc.
Trickle-down economics? It's not tax cuts for the rich. It's opportunities for everyone.
So even though people aren't answering your questions, I don't really care because they're ***** stupid. I may not like AA, but I am not going to argue with the results. Because it's better than the alternative: disadvantaged poor people being *****. And even if you don't care about them as people, from a purely heartless perspective they drag society down. Fix the problems with the foundation of society and you can build a better one. The weakest link in the chain, the weakest brick in the foundation... - phike, on 09/16/2008, -0/+20You ask questions without caring enough to look them up for yourself.
Q: Is it a fact that Obama has deliberately obscured his background?
A: No, it is most likely a fact that he didn't deliberately obscure his background.
Q: Why won't he let the press look at his grades from Columbia? Where are his writings while president of Harvard Law Review?
A: For the same reason I don't want the press looking at my grades from college (even though they were quite good). Unless he graduated in worse standing than McCain (nearly impossible), it is the principle of privacy. His writings from the Harvard Law Review are most likely insignificant and would have surfaced if he wrote some extremist beliefs.
Q: What about his connections with the Chicago political machine?
A: One of the most idiotic questions I have ever heard in my life. What about McCain's connections with the Arizona state political machine? Bush and Texas? Giuliuani and New York? Palin and Alaska? Nearly all governments have a shade of corruption.
Q: Why is it that all of his close associates hold opinions and beliefs that give us pause?
A: If by "all of his close associates" you mean "two of his acquaintances", you got me there. What about John Hagee and John McCain? Everyone knows ***** up people.
Q: Just how did Obama get into Harvard with his less than stellar grades and LSAT scores? How did he get to be president of the Law Review without any published articles or top academic credentials while at Harvard?
A: Affirmative Action; he got in by legacy of his slave ancestors the same way McCain got into his institution through legacy of his father.
Q: Specifically, what will his tax increases do other than take money from those that earn it and give it to those who don't? (I think that is Marxist ideology!)
A: He is merely taking us back to a Bill Clinton tax system. Calling any tax increase on the wealthy a "Marxist ideology" is ignorant.
Q: Just what exactly qualifies him to be our leader when he hasn't yet managed a business, or even been the head of a smaller government municipality?
A: Leaders are not only born in the executive branches of all governments; they can also born from legislature. A leader motivates and sells a vision, and he has successfully done that so far to millions of people in his presidential campaign. The definition of leadership varies, so the right answer to your question is in the eye of the beholder.
Other than your last question, you failed to use common sense or public knowledge. Thank you for wasting peoples' time. - batkins, on 09/16/2008, -1/+2Pwned! Nice one Phike, couldn't agree with you more. I'm sorry but all of these questions were moronic especially the "Why is it that all of his close associates hold opinions and beliefs that give us pause?" That is a ridiculous statement that doesn't even make sense.

- duckley, on 09/16/2008, -0/+15McCain is Citizen Kane.
Hasn’t this movie been done already?
Oh, yes.
It’s about a man who sells his soul to (Karl Rovians) devils, who reverses every honorable position he ever held, in pursuit of higher public office.
Even the darling girl he rescues from obscurity ends up hating him.
And, in the end, he dies alone, hated.
“Rosebud” he whispers. - linwnil, on 09/16/2008, -2/+10A few unintentional mis-statements don't make a person a liar. But this is not the case of McCain. He is a liar not because he cited or approved a few mis-statements but because of his (intentional or not) ignorance to simple plain facts.
- azAZ09, on 09/16/2008, -0/+7While I agree that McCain is a man of considerable ignorace---

- stormkrow, on 09/16/2008, -0/+17I'll keep posting up my previous comments until "Republicans" start owning up to reality.
I've said it before and I'll say it again there are NO republicans in the republican party and a vote or support for McCain/Palin is tantamount to accepting everything over the last 8 years. In my mind if you support this party that means you have to OWN everything that goes along with it you don't get to pick and choose if you whole heartedly support the GOP then you OWN all of it's failings too and that diggers is the cold hard reality of it all and I'm sorry to say it but it makes you a hypocrite of the highest magnitude.
Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, Katrina, FISA, the Patriot Act, Stevens, DeLay, Abramoff, Enron, Worldcomm, 9-11, Gonzalez, Rove, CEO bail outs, Plamegate, loss of Habeus Corpus, Shredding of the Constitution, $4 gas, Voter caging in Ohio and Florida, racism against illegal immigrants, LGBT hate crimes, "Mission Accomplished", 1 Million+ Iraqi civilian causalities, 1 Million+ Casualties and refugees in Sudan/Darfur, 10,000 fold increase in heroin production, the worst "Dollar" in American history, 6.1% unemployment (conservative), tent cities, 40 Million+ uninsured, Walter Reed, Drill our way out, from the most respected to the most hated citizens on Earth, Coalition of the Billing, multi-billion dollar profits for Big Oil, mulit-billion dollar contracts for Halliburton, the most secretive gvt in modern history, commuting of sentences for convicted traitors, Supreme court standing by big business, Gulf War Syndrome vets class action lawsuit quashed, Abstinence Only education, public schools failing our children, bridges collapsing in Minnesota, our highway and infrastructure in complete disarray, the fight for Net Neutrality, 8,000 dead Americans, ........
OWN IT GOP Supporters. OWN IT. Lock, Stock and Barrel.
When you post up your support of McCain/Palin then you by default agree with and standby the short list noted above. NO you don't get to pick and choose, this is YOUR party, OWN IT. Yes a vote for McCain/Palin IS a full throated endorsement of the Bush Administration. PERIOD. End of discussion. The Republican party didn't change and to think that it did is a level of naivety that should only be displayed by toddlers. Once you decide to actually OWN your party and all of it's failings THEN you can digg me down.
VOTE!!! - commentposted, on 09/16/2008, -8/+1Correct, but I'm also guessing that Obama is a liar. Every time I hear a political speech it sounds like they're either lying or making up fluff to distract me.

- mofolotopo, on 09/15/2008, -18/+160Can we add a second counter for every one of McCain's "deeply held moral beliefs" that he's given up in the past decade? Let's start with his stances on abortion, torture, and lobbyist influence in Washington and just work our way up from there.

- scruffles, on 09/16/2008, -0/+19Wow. That link is a completely unreliable source of information.
Try this one: http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/obama_and_ ... - cherwilco, on 09/16/2008, -1/+18try again duopy3 next time use a CREDIBLE source
now I know credible is a big word so here ya go
Credibility is the objective and subjective components of the believability of a source or message. Traditionally, credibility is composed of two primary dimensions: trustworthiness and expertise, which have both objective and subjective components. - jflm3, on 09/16/2008, -24/+1That seems like a credible source to me. Have you heard of Jill Stanek? Do you know how she met Barack Obama?
If you have any intelligence and information other than your left-wing radical media sources you'd accept Jill Stanek's article as credible. Instead you are closed minded and when someone backs you into your own corner you act foolishly childish and can't accept you're wrong. - jflm3, on 09/16/2008, -24/+1Don't worry duopy3, you made your best effort, but for some it just wasn't good enough. But for most liberals, whatever you use to prove them wrong isn't going to be good enough... because good enough is a "subjective component" and they can't see past their own narcissistic ego's to realize "good enough" actually exists outside of themselves.
- uradox, on 09/16/2008, -1/+11Left-wing and right-wing alike don’t exactly accept Jill. She’s a pro-life extremist who’s said some stupid things in the past. No one wants to be seen next to her so it’s easy to see why people would not see her as credible.

http://www.factcheck.org/ = nonpartisan, nonprofit organization to inform voters of misinformation on both sides.
Believe it or not, you could probably find some information to fuel your propaganda on factcheck.org if you looked closely. They really are nonpartisan. - RobotLeAwesome, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3too bad he doesn't support duopy3icide.
- RobotLeAwesome, on 09/16/2008, -0/+4Hell, he's given up a lot of them within the past 10 months, let alone 10 years. I didn't think McCain was a bad guy last year, but now a lot of things have changed.

- auberdan, on 09/15/2008, -16/+91Does anybody know of a McCain lie-tracker widget or application that can be added to Facebook? It would be nice if this updated regularly. It seems like the counter should record not just each lie, but each time they deliver the lie, because that's kind of the best part of this situation they've gotten themselves into. It sort of adds to the general surreal feeling of their campaign. They're like little kids who got trapped in a make-believe story, and they just don't know what to do but keep repeating themselves or risk having their world punctured by reality. The only way out is for some campaign 'handler' figures out a way out. It would be great to add this as a Facebook application. Like since Palin told her 'bridge to nowhere' story 9 times the counter should record it as 9 lies. Even though it's the same lie over and over, if it's repeated 9 times I think it definitely should count as 9 lies.
- carbonscooby, on 09/15/2008, -2/+8hahha thatd be awesome, hahah, i would even PAY for an iphone app that did that

- cherwilco, on 09/16/2008, -0/+15wow if you think keeping the peace or at least attempting to is lying then WTF are you on? just because you put the word lie in your sentence does not mean you can chalk up some random link with Obama's name in it as an Obama lie.
NO....BAD duopy! - flameboy, on 09/16/2008, -0/+17From your ***** article: "Though Obama claims the US presence is "illegal," he suddenly remembered that Americans troops were in Iraq within the legal framework of a UN mandate."
Oh, really? Seem to be forgetting all that talk about "unilateral military action" when UN refused to help us? Forgetting why Colin Powell resigned?
The Iraq war IS illegal. Bush lied to start it, this has been well documented. Why don't you try doing some research. - JenniferInMO, on 09/16/2008, -0/+10The best you can do is one pathetic op-ed column from the Washington Post? What, no alien spacecraft spotted near his campaign? No two-headed lipstick covered pig baby?
- Cablewife55, on 09/16/2008, -0/+5This guy has had so many articles retracted for falsifying facts that I won't believe a word of his crap.

- oldgal, on 09/16/2008, -1/+5Maybe we just need a counter on each one. Then we could list them in order of most often repeated.
- kwansolo, on 09/16/2008, -0/+5i think this app would crash my browser.
- bogshrink, on 09/15/2008, -14/+45I'm glad someone is doing the counting. It would be a dream to think Fair and Balanced Fox would do it since their loyalists need to see the truth through the haze of bias that clouds their thinking. Democrats keep saying it takes a minute to find the truth on Google. Now that isn't true! It generally takes 10-15 seconds on a fast computer.
We've got to think of more ways to get to the independents and undecideds. This will give writers like me more information. I preach to the choir on Capitol Hill Blue, a small political website, where a column like my latest, "With apologies to our porcine friends, the lipstick is off the Palin pig" ( at http://www.capitolhillblue.com/cont/node/11259 ) typically has about 3,000 readers who mostly agree with me.
This website will give everyone hard facts to counter water cooler arguments about which candidates are really change agents.- JenniferInMO, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1I just added you as a friend. Please add me too and/or send me a shout so I can reply to you. I keep links to most reputable articles by subject. I have about 30 pieces I want to write and some good thoughts for topics and talking points to stress but I just start then get distracted with digging or e-mails or other stuff and never get anything done. I would be happy to feed you whatever you need. I think there is a good need for some comprehensive pieces still on McCain's lobbyists and what his cabinet and Administrative appointments might look like. I think someone needs to write a short piece on Obama's healthcare plan b/c many people, including swing voters still think it is "socialized medicine." I also have a pretty good understanding of tax policy and can give you details and overviews. I would love to get this stuff out there, I just don't.
This same offer goes for anyone needing help with ideas, outlines or started posts and research along with good talking points. just give me a shout.

- joenothin, on 09/15/2008, -15/+102I used to have a lot of respect for John McCain. However, I can't stomach the lies he and his campaign are shoving down our throats.
- sfelton, on 09/16/2008, -1/+3The thing to think about are these lies just to get elected and will he go back to his 2000 ways once he is elected? Or is it as the saying goes, once you go black [in reference to his soul] you cant go back.

Are you sure. I'm pretty sure I remember Bush promising years of war, arrogance, depravity and moral fallacy during the 2000 primaries. He certainly delivered on that.
- bubba9999, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1Pre-2000 McCain tempted a lot of people from both sides of the aisle to vote for him. I know I considered it. He was more than just talk back then - he actually did "The Right Thing" a number of times despite what his colleagues and party wanted him to do.
Pity he took the devil's deal. - SmokinOkie, on 09/16/2008, -1/+1*****!

- steveeyes, on 09/15/2008, -10/+43It isn't just the lies, but the low blows. I may be cynical, but you almost expect politicians to stretch the truth somewhat, but most don't use disgust as a communication tool unless they have something to hide. Diversion in politics has been going on, well, forever -- but our memories surely can't be that short remembering that Bush distorted the truth to get us into a war that had thousands killed. I'm starting to wonder if distortion is not the whole Republican platform -- the Karl Rove (sp?) doctrine.

Lie 1. Obama wants to teach sex ed to kindergartners
Lie 2. Palin was against the bridge to nowhere
Lie 3. Obama never drafted any legislation
Lie 4. Obama will raise taxes and McCain will cut them
There are many more, those are just the easiest to prove as lies.- rignopolis, on 09/16/2008, -5/+1Clearly, your lie #4 depends on the persons income. For some Obama will raise them - for others no. For the rest who don't pay any - Free Money!

- emeralddragon, on 09/16/2008, -17/+2Believe it or not it is Obama who is behind in the polls, not McCain. It is you who should be worried - worried that even with all Obama's millions he still can't close the deal.
If you wish you can believe all those people who want McCain are secret racists if it helps you sleep at night.- cherwilco, on 09/16/2008, -1/+4there is nothing secret about the fact that there are racists that would vote for ANYONE before voting for a black man. the sad thing is the politicians in your party count on the ignorant masses to cast their votes for them. Now that I think about it you should be ashamed.
- DRFU, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1@cherwilco So to hide your guilty conscience you vote for the minority? You logic is flawed.
- Deanblackoak, on 09/16/2008, -1/+11Experience has never matter for the President. Never will. McCain made it an issue. Then he picks a VP with hardly any.
- brenden67, on 09/16/2008, -1/+12And Palin's experience is? Oh wait, her state is closest to Russia. And she was a Mayor of one of the country's largest cities, right? And Alaska is one of the most populous states, right? And University of Idaho ranks right up there with Harvard, right? And changing colleges a bunch of times is a great way to get a good education, right? And McCain who voted with Bush 90% of the time is a best choice to change things, right? And McCain has experience running 2, no, 5, no 7, I think homes, right? Didn't McCain himself say the economy is fine even while the dow dropped over 500 points? But he did say that economics was not something he knew much about which is ok for someone who wants to lead our country, right?
It is unbelievable to me how some people blindly follow some people.
Bottom line is if you think things are ok now and have been ok for the past 8 years, then McCain may be a good choice. If you think maybe a different tack is in order, then maybe Obama is a good choice.
Also, consider that McCain is not in the best health. There is a very good chance that if elected, we will end up with Sarah Palin as our President. So for those who think Obama's experience is a detriment, then in no way should her experience be satisfactory. Her credentials don't even come close to what Obama has being a US Senator working on issues of all sorts both foreign and domestic. If we want to learn how to shoot moose, then vote McCain/Palin. I for one believe we need to take things in a different direction. There is no way that McCain is going to do that no matter what he says. Actions speak much louder than words and there has been no stronger supporter of Bush policies than McCain.
And if you know anything about History, McCains words and ramblings about the economy sound an awful lot like another master of economics, Herbert Hoover. Whom you may recall presided over the worst economic disaster. And it took a Democrat (FDR) to pull us out of the Great Depression.
Obama should quote Bill Clinton to say "It's the economy, stupid!" - rignopolis, on 09/16/2008, -7/+1Here we go again. When will Democrats learn that comparing Obamas experience to Palins is a no win proposition? Let's compare apples to apples - Obama with McCain. If they feel like Obamas experience doesn't stand up to McCain then why not try comparing Obamas stance on issues?
(And insisting that McCain probably won't make it through 4 years because he's so old is just going to piss off the older voters.)- jerrolds, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1i would think that older voters understand mortality and would want a capable person that can improve life for their kids, grand kids, great grand kids - people tend to be less selfish as they age

Which by the way, I think Digg should allow refuting claims about the inaccuracy of a submission. There is an imbalance if it only takes a few users to declare something as inaccurate even if the vast majority considers it accurate.- stock, on 09/16/2008, -1/+18I think everyone that flags something as inaccurate should have to reply proof that it is inaccurate. And then a moderator should review all claims.
- cherwilco, on 09/16/2008, -1/+11that moderator would be one busy mofo till this election is over!
- tabularassa, on 09/16/2008, -0/+4How about just letting people vote as accurate(+) or inaccurate(-) and have the system flag the submission as inaccurate if it goes below a certain threshold (percentage).
- Haecceity, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2tabularass: Accuracy cannot be determined by a vote. Or by an algorithm, apparently.
- qxrt, on 09/16/2008, -0/+0That's a horrible idea. Accurate until proven inaccurate? That's like guilty until proven innocent...it should be the other way around.
Under your system, we'd need no proof to claim anything--we'd only need proof to refute it.
Just think...you could accuse every single candidate of cheating on his/her spouse, and no one could bring definite evidence against it simply because that would require a minute-by-minute alibi for the candidate's entire married life. Does this really make sense to you?
- dcmjzero, on 09/16/2008, -2/+5Blah, blah, blah. Quit complaining. No one pays attention to the inaccurate flags anyway. And no, stock, we do not need meta moderation. See Slashdot for why that is a bad idea.

- EatingPie, on 09/16/2008, -27/+8Both McCain and Obama have told numerous untruths in their ads, even just according to the much-quoted "factcheck.org."
So why isn't there a "Politician Lie Counter"? Why is it limited to McCain? Are we so partisan, so ideological, that we can't even consider that our favorite candidate also stretches the truth beyond breaking?
-Pie- zombies187, on 09/16/2008, -1/+2We are in the last few weeks of the biggest election we can have. Are people partisan? YES. Nows the time. Its practically super bowl sunday. We are all going to hate on the new president together no matter who he is. Isnt that good enough?
- dcmjzero, on 09/16/2008, -1/+7http://liecount.com/
Is that good enough? You should at least admit that McCain "stretches the truth" a little more frequently. I mean, seriously, sexing up Kindergardeners? That was low. Not even near the "100 years" thing. Not even in the same ball park. Obama isn't perfect, but McCain just took it too far. - flameboy, on 09/16/2008, -0/+5Sorry, the spin Obama might engage in is nowhere close to the *blatant lying* McCain's campaign engages in.
- cherwilco, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3I understand your trying to be polite in stating that both sides are guilty of lying in their campaign ads. but the bottom line is if Obama is lying about any of his claims then feel free to tally up a list (with references of course) and post it on the internet somewhere. make sure you submit to digg too!
- Archimboldo, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1Here's one list below.
Some of the items in the link below have been refuted and others downgraded to misstatements, exaggerations, or lameness ... but many still stand. Similarly many of the statements against McCain and Palin have been refuted and others downgraded. Who has time to go through these endless lists and check them all out thoroughly? I try to keep up with the major ones, but I'd have to quit my job to look at all of them in detail.
Honestly I find such lists rather useless because every politician on a grueling campaign will say something he believes, but which under the microscope of thousands of journalists just waiting to refute them, turn out to be false. People also overstate their resumes. Politicians are politicians.
Anyway, the list ...
http://www.audacityofhypocrisy.com/fashion-shows/ - rignopolis, on 09/16/2008, -2/+0That's the scary part. He isn't lying about wanting to move the government towards a more socialist bent, and 40+ % of voters will still vote for him. On the positive side, maybe we'll end up with 34 hour work week and month long summer vacations like some European countries. Working 60+ hours and making all this money is killing me...
- Hodor, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1not so bad, Archimboldo. some of those are pretty weak, however, and sometimes fall into the category of "slight gaffe" rather than "bald-faced-lie". I'll keep reading. don't forget to submit it to digg.

- SpeedSteamBoat, on 09/16/2008, -0/+4Well, if I had to venture a guess I'd say it's because McCain is the candidate essentially basing his entire campaign on lies and smears. - zombies187, on 09/16/2008, -2/+5"It does not matter if most people will get a tax cut; it is still a tax increase."
I can see you believe it. What you have to understand is that most people see a tax cut as tax cut. Why is that so hard to comprehend?- Arkons24, on 09/16/2008, -2/+1Because it isn't a tax cut it is a tax increase.
- zombies187, on 09/16/2008, -1/+1The general revenue from taxes is scheduled to stay the same no matter which candidate. They will both take in the same amount of taxes. The difference is WHO gets the cuts.
- Arkons24, on 09/16/2008, -2/+1That's not true man. Early estimates I've seen show Obama's plan bringing 18.4% of GDP while McCain's would be 17.8%. Keep in mind the government, even with Iraq, only runs at about 19.2% of GDP ... so these differences are fairly significant.
Also, McCain's tax cuts are geared more towards public saving / capital investment than Obama's, which mostly give tax credit to people that don't pay taxes anyway. When you take into account that so much of Obama's supposed cut is actually a credit and therefore not a cut at all these differences are even larger. - zombies187, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1So you are talking about a difference of .6% of GDP? The difference here is so small that I personally find it an acceptable price to pay for a government whose slogan is NOT 'you are on your own.' Thanks for the chat though.
- Arkons24, on 09/16/2008, -1/+1That's because you're an idiot. The US GDP is like 14 trillion dollars. .6% of our GDP is enough to buy Canada with. Learn how think like an adult and not some pithy little child.

- cjschreiber, on 09/16/2008, -17/+4You people realize that the definition of lie is neither "a contention for which the accuracy either has not been, or cannot be, proved" nor "a contention with which you disagree", right? For there to be a lie, you need the intentional statement of something that is definitively false. Please demonstrate which of McCain's statements meet the actual definition of a lie.
- teamgwho, on 09/16/2008, -0/+5is that a joke?
"the McCain campaign continues to assert that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told the federal government 'thanks but no thanks' to the now-famous bridge to an island in her home state..." McCain has said this several times, except she supported the bridge project and only flipped on it when it became a national joke. Furthermore SHE KEPT THE MONEY and spent it on other Alaska projects.
So what he says is completely inconsistant with the facts.
Either he doesn't know the facts (and is therefor speaking out of his ass about that which he does not know) or he is in fact lying. Either way that's not what I want in a candidate, especially when this is only one example of many.- cjschreiber, on 09/16/2008, -4/+2To quote U of Wisc. law professor Ann Althouse:

She kept the money, but killed the Bridge to Nowhere. Thus she said "thanks but no thanks" to the Bridge to Nowhere, but used the money on other Alaska infrastructure projects. Where is the lie? You can't possibly be saying she didn't go against the Bridge to Nowhere, because you are accusing her of flip-flopping on it, and ending up against it. - Deanblackoak, on 09/16/2008, -2/+4cjschreiber, Palin never said to congress "Thanks, but no thanks." That's a lie, not an exaggeration. Congress pulled the plug on the funds for the bridge, thus no bridge. The fact, she never said it. The lie, she says she did.
- cjschreiber, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2"Thanks but no thanks" does not mean "I personally effected the end of the earmark." "Thanks but no thanks" was the description of her position against the project. No lie there.
- teamgwho, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1@ cjschreiber: she stated she said thanks but no thanks, which means she refused something that was offered. If we take this to mean she declined to take the money, thats untrue. she kept the money. if we take this to mean she didn't want the bridge to be built and told Congress as such, that's a lie. She was in support of the bridge initially.
No matter which way you interpret her statement, it's untrue.

- DiggDuggDunn, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2Don't confuse the issue with facts when people have already made up their minds.
- teamgwho, on 09/16/2008, -0/+5is that a joke?
- cjschreiber, on 09/16/2008, -6/+7Also, note that adding lots of shrill adjectives to your posts make them sound pathetic.
- csmiths, on 09/16/2008, -10/+4This is pretty tough stuff. Among the lies: that he called his TV ad "Disrespectful" which was mean and that he wanted a gas tax holiday. I guess it's a lie now to advocate a policy that someone disagrees with. And of course the bridge to nowhere gets counted multiple times. What about the time someone greeted him with a "How are you" and he answered "Fine" even though he had a mild headache.
- zombies187, on 09/16/2008, -1/+2Exactly! He SAYS he is fine...but how do we know?

- jeebodon, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2I don't get it...I support McCain but why are there so much...stupidity...in many of the posts criticizing Obama? Guess I'm feeding the troll here...
- teamgwho, on 09/16/2008, -4/+20What I love is this site uses only articles published by major newspapers, magazines, news networks and independant fact checking sites like factcheck.org. So none of the whiners can complain that it's liberal biased crap from huffpost or dailykos.
The sad thing for me is I recall John Kerry saying around this time 4 years ago "If we can't beat these guys with their track record..." and we know what happened. So far no one seems to be paying attention to all of McCain/Palins lies, flipflops and smears. I am amazed that anyone actually thinks Palin is a smart choice or is qualified in anyway. I await the VP debates where she will get her bell rung hard by Biden.- metalgel, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1That's like watching Fox News when you can easily get the truth from The Daily Show.
- lestyoubejudged, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2Please vote on November 4th, your voice needs to be heard
- Deathspike, on 09/16/2008, -10/+5Sadly, Ron Paul is one of the few politicians in the United States that are making any sense these days. I just wish more people would listen to what the good doctor has to say. I can guarantee that a lot of people would benefit from it.
- krd1979, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2Why are you getting dugg down? It's the truth, Ron Paul would be a lot better for this country that either of the two guys running.
- Ebacherville, on 09/16/2008, -20/+5Where is the Obama lie checker, they should both be about the same.. there both scum bags

- rignopolis, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2Based on the language, I'd say Shugii is working for Mickey D's. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

- emeralddragon, on 09/16/2008, -20/+7Ooooh I like this game. Well if you guys had any balls you would include the Obama lie counter right alongside it. Here's a start:
1. Said he would renegotiate NAFTA when he knew he wouldn't
2. Said he would take public financing when he knew damn well he would not
3. Said he would not support FISA with telecom immunity knowing full well he would in the end do so
4. Anti-gun to please the left and then decides guns are just ok with him - might be a lie, might be a flip-flip, but does it matter?- dcmjzero, on 09/16/2008, -5/+8Those are flip flops, not lies. Saying Obama is sexing up kindergarten kids? Lie. Here is one for McCain and Obama: http://liecount.com/
Oh, and:
1. He still wants to renegotiate. See here: http://money.cnn.com/2008/06/18/magazines/fortune/ ...
2. He got more money than he expected. At least the law (the one McCain wrote) like McCain did. http://www.americablog.com/2008/02/john-mccains-ot ...
3. Politicians compromise. He is one. He still doesn't support it. But sometimes in life you must compromise (wait until you get married- then you will know what I mean).
4. He supports state's rights when it comes to gun laws. This is as it should be. What is good for Alaska may not be good for New York (not much moose in NYC). Not a flip, nor a flop.
What else ya got? - rondeth, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1http://politifact.com/truth-o-meter/

- cjschreiber, on 09/16/2008, -13/+4She kept the money, but killed the Bridge to Nowhere. Thus she said "thanks but no thanks" to the Bridge to Nowhere, but used the money on other Alaska infrastructure projects. Where is the lie?
- queenbee93, on 09/16/2008, -3/+3She said YES to the bridge before she said no. IN fact, at the point she said no, Congress had already scuttled that project. You know she could not say no--who would Ted Stevens have appointed for his 527 committee if she had turned on him? The lie was when she said she was always against it--when on the record she was NOT and even Lindsay Graham et al have all admitted that was not the truth. Nice try, but the fact is Republicans not only lie, their supporters lie to themselves about their lies...That is the hallmark of true liars--when you guys get up before God on Judgment day--you all are gonna get the trap door.
- cjschreiber, on 09/16/2008, -2/+1Um, that's not a lie, that's a change in one's stance. What is the problem you all have with vocabulary?
Also, please bone up on your civics. A governor has no say in an earmarked appropriation from the feds. She can express an opinion ahead of time, but once it passes it's a directed federal expenditure. Note that governor is not a federal position. Thus the governor has no power to redirect or "say no" to an earmark.
BTW, please fine the quote in which she said she had never changed her stance on the Bridge to Nowhere. A link would be appreciated.
- cjschreiber, on 09/16/2008, -2/+1Um, that's not a lie, that's a change in one's stance. What is the problem you all have with vocabulary?
- dcmjzero, on 09/16/2008, -3/+1It was more of a flip than a lie. She was for the bridge before she was against it. She only changed her mind for political reasons. That calls into question her "reformer" credentials.

This election cycle is the first I remember when neither of the major candidates is suited for the job.- Deanblackoak, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1Man, you need to pay more attention or look up the difference between the words lie and opinion.
- Diggey11, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2Everytime I hear the word messiah to describe Obama it lowers my faith in the Repubs. Stop listening to the nonsense of the right wingers and try to have a thought of your own.
McCain has lied, its been proven, the McCain of today is not the McCain we all respected in 2000. If he can be swayed to conform to his parties disgusting tactics we cannot have him in office- Haecceity, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1I agree entirely. And it was Bush who claimed he governs according to God's will and that his mission was to "rid the world of evil" If anyone has a Messiah complex it's him -- and yet the republicans approve of Bush's arrogant God-mongering. Hypocrites to the last.

what about the anti-McCain lie counter? How many tiems has that counter been turned over? - xman8, on 09/16/2008, -16/+4Obama lies, lies, lies, lies!!!!
Here is a start:

- loganro, on 09/16/2008, -0/+0xman8, don't you get it? Obama, the lord and savior, does not lie! He doesn't have the ability. His brown nosing followers on digg can PROVE IT with such comments as context, context, context, context!!! and 'that is ***** he didn't lie.' I think we should vote for a president who will give even MORE money to the lazy, non-job wanting bastards! ***** the people who work hard for their money!
- LeeDigg, on 09/16/2008, -4/+7All of your bickering would be comical if it weren't so sad.
- rignopolis, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1Perhaps there should be a moratorium on political articles on Digg until after the election. It's not like anyone is really going to be convinced either way by the articles or the comments.
- RobotLeAwesome, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3I don't know, I was going to vote Independent – but some guys were being douchebags, so I'm voting Obama just to spite them.
- ajaxmil, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1the election of the giant douche vs. turd sandwich. pick the lesser of two sleazeballs.
- rignopolis, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1Perhaps there should be a moratorium on political articles on Digg until after the election. It's not like anyone is really going to be convinced either way by the articles or the comments.
- jflm3, on 09/16/2008, -15/+3That seems like a credible source to me.
- jflm3, on 09/16/2008, -15/+4Don't worry duopy3, you made your best effort, but for some it just wasn't good enough. But for most liberals, whatever you use to prove them wrong isn't going to be good enough... because good enough is a "subjective component" and they can't see past their own narcissistic ego's to realize "good enough" actually exists outside of themselves.
- Pixelpaws, on 09/16/2008, -8/+17Is there a similar page for Obama? I'm not going to spew the "Obama is a liar" crap that about a dozen commenters above have; I simply am interested in seeing both sides of the coin and holding both candidates accountable for what they say.
- ObamAmerican48, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3I'm sure there's one out there somewhere. I know I'm a biased Obama supporter, but with the exception of declining public financing for his campaign (calling that a lie is a stretch at best), what else has he lied about? The man lives in ONE glass house and he's been taking it from all sides. The problem is that nothin's stickin' because there's nothing to stick. If the "right" is resorting to trying to tie a 7 year old Obama to a 60s terrorist activitist, you know there ain't a lot of ammo out there. They're making ***** up as they go along.

"I hope Nancy Pelosi, Howard Dean, Donna Brazile and all the venal bloggers and operatives who manufactured support for Obama online are satisfied. For once McCain wins, and he will win, it will be time for real Democrats who enjoy winning elections to reform OUR presently defunct Party apparatus from within and from without. We have worked too hard for this Party to allow them to squander opportunity after opportunity in order to satisfy the warped desires of a small band of elitist mediocrities who again and again take those of us who comprise the Democratic base for granted." - rezapci, on 09/16/2008, -11/+1MCCain Is a lier Sucker, seam as his buddies GWB. You are a losser...
- cjschreiber, on 09/16/2008, -0/+4Normally I'd let a misspelling pass without comment, but there's just something too ironic about misspelling the word "loser." The rest of the post speaks for itself.
- jstem1994, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2Every word more than 3 letters misspelled. Wow.
- heystoopid, on 09/16/2008, -2/+10Sadly , there are so many lies but not including those he made in the eighties that it will take me at least six months to cross double/triple check and investigate to make it impossible to digest in one hit just like his fellow alleged Vietnam war hero and equally corrupt puker piglet by the name of Randy (puke me guts out) Cunningham .
For a person that supposedly espouses such righteous right wing extremist judeo christian beliefs of honesty and integrity and extreme family values ! With all these lies it is a wonder that his lord god does not reach up from hell grab him by the B***S and smite him down for giving Christianity such a bum rap , as it is telling everyone that both lying and greed is good .
Yet the bible belt wankers across the mid west are told by their equally greedy corrupt priests to worship the very bad stench gas from his A**SE , talk about double and triple standards ?
Choices ?- cjschreiber, on 09/16/2008, -1/+1All those "lies," and not one example... Typical. I'm sure you could even find one or two real examples, given we're talking about a politician. But these types of posts, fully of adjectives and allegations but short on anything substantive, are pathetic.

Obama maybe a senator for 12 fewer years, but he sure caught up fast! 76 lies and counting...- Remulos, on 09/16/2008, -3/+6Lol, this stupid site is no better than huffpost or dailykos. At least the mccainpedia is backed up by independent fact checking organizations like factcheck.org. All I saw on your site was total spin on the first page. Didn't bother reading any further, just like I don't usually bother going to huffpost or dailykos stories dugg on here.
- batkins, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1I'm sorry but this site that you just posted is absolutely terrible. Everything that I read on there was opinion, not fact, and poorly jumped to conclusions at that... Example:
62.) I am very Anti-Terror - LIAR. [03/30/2008] One of your good pals is long time radical and terrorist William Ayers, with whom you have been seen in the last 12 months and who has helped the now jailed khalidi, Professor at Columbia who invited Ahmadinejad to the University, to raise money for Palestinian terrorism attacks against Israel. PS - Your church published a pro Hamas Manifesto - guess you weren’t there on THAT Sunday either? How lucky for you.
Ok this is the most ridiculous string of conclusion after conclusion that it's laughable to even think that this is supposed to be a fact. That entire site is full of stupid propoganda like that.

- hekoshi, on 09/16/2008, -16/+5How about an Obama lie counter?
-.- The way Obama speaks makes it seem like businesses have infinite money and can pay for as many workers as they want to at whatever salary they want to. Think about it though. Anyone that owns their own business should have full control over it. If your boss is angry enough to fire you for no reason, there's no point in working for him anyways because he's not going to live too long in the corporate world. If he pays you too little, quit. Find another workplace that pays more. The business can't survive without employees. If someone else is willing to take your position for less, tough luck, maybe you should develop a better skill, learn more, or otherwise make yourself more valuable to the business.
As it is right now, many people starting businesses don't make it because taxes are too high or they have to provide benefits like healthcare. And btw, healthcare is also taxed immensly and heavily regulated. The cost is blown out of proportion, and now you want the government to save you from those high costs by raising minimum wage and improving the unions? Guess what, now it costs the business more money to provide those same services. The price goes up!
What is so hard about economics to make it possible for so many people to misunderstand? I'm not saying that I have all of the answers, but I'm saying maybe people should think a little bit more before voting for one guy or the other. Mccain is not another george bush, but even if he is, Obama wants to deliberately wreck the economy. So which would you rather choose? Personally, I don't like either, so let's rephrase that. Who do you think would do the least damage? Choose the lesser of two evils please. Oh the wonders of democracy!
I could go on an endless rant about how majoritarianism is fundamentally flawed, but that would take too long to fully explain; so how about a brief summary. If we have 100 people on an island and 49 of them make more money then the other 51, and those 51 people vote to take money from the other 49, does that make it right? Who worked for that money?
The world needs more darwinism...- loganro, on 09/16/2008, -1/+0You shouldn't have wrote this much in one comment. The far left stupid ***** don't like to read.
- cjschreiber, on 09/16/2008, -11/+3Congress stripped the earmark - because only Congress can either create or take away an earmark... State officials don't have a say in an earmark if it's in the bill that's passed by Congress. Palin was against the Bridge to Nowhere. There may not be a quote in the media of Palin saying "Thanks but no thanks," but given she was against the project, no lie.
