6G iPod UI video: Apple's new interface?...Apple Legal Department Involved!

engadget.com — According to this MacRumors video -- which has since been pulled per request of Apple's legal department -- the new iPod interface will look a lot like the iPhone. Go figure. Of course, there's always the chance that this video might be a fake, but if that's the case, why is Apple so worried about it? See for yourself after the break.

  • liRising, on 10/10/2007, -3/+51Apple's request to MacRumors could mean that the UI may be real, it could also mean that it may be an earlier concept for a 6G iPod, done before the iPhone UI was completed. Why get it removed? Could be due to fear of the videos affecting public perception and share price.

    Why adapt the older iPod UI one when you have a brand-new one that everyone thinks is better and more attractive?

    It's must be real but just an old crappy concept...

It's why the iPod is reigning as champion of the portable audio market, and why the Mac is gaining market share.     Why would they make this interface any different than the iphone's ipod interface? Widescreen doesn't make too much of a difference in either navigation mode or cover flow view.. the hack-job look of it really doesn't cut it for me.

    Apple's legal dept's involvement doesn't do much in the way of convincing me that they're trying to keep a lid on this. If anything they've put a stop to the video's publication because MacRumors is getting hits off of false Apple representations.

    The *Perfect* 6th Gen iPod (imo) = 4gb iPhone - Phone Capability + 56 gb - $200

    Frankly I wouldn't mind too much if something like this turned out as the new iPod interface, although I'd greatly prefer a full-on touchscreen interface. Point being, the iPhone's not just an amazing interweb-device/phone it's also the best iPod they've ever made. The redesign of the iPod interface for the iPhone is a welcome change of pace, it's cool, new, and easy to use. I say stick with it.

  • stusb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i don't know what you lot are on about. comparing that picture to the current ui when i have the artwork only up - this new one looks a million times better than the current one. this isn't a picture of the regular interface, it's the screen you get after those 3 centre clicks, maybe a screensaver type thing... looks slick.

    Anybody remember the Asteroid? Apple got all mad about the leak of supposed internal documents detailing a new product, and yet 2 years later we still haven't seen the product.

    Apple is willing to defend even fake leaks specifically because that way they can claim deniability. If they only went after real leaks it would be just as good as confirming them.

  • tobsterius, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Folks, Apple Legal always gets involved. While it might indicate that the UI could be the new iPod UI, it doesn't make it 100% certain. I'm sure this UI is one of *many* possible UIs Apple has worked on and they just want to protect their IP.
