7 iPhone Apps to Boost Your Productivity
lifehack.org — Here is a list of apps from the iTunes App Store that have been found to be useful and good for productivity that you might be interested in trying out. That is, if you hadn ’t already done so during the week’s excessive hype. Or if you’re not busy playing Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart.

- LdsAskMormon, on 07/21/2008, -9/+8These look great... thanks for the suggestions.
- reconflux, on 07/21/2008, -3/+10I'm glad I'm not the only one not getting NetNewsWire sync up. They need to fix that. I like Google Reader but the no caching is killing me.
- theadvinci, on 07/21/2008, -2/+23"7 iPhone Apps to Boost Your Productivity" - Check!
What's next.... Oh yeah... Now I have to get an iPhone. - natmlt, on 07/21/2008, -2/+9Thank goodness sites are doing decent reviews of apps. There are so many retarded reviews in the app store that it is almost completely useless now. Apple needs to make it so you have to purchase the app before you can review it.
- GreenAlien, on 07/21/2008, -0/+3I wish Amazon would do that too.
- kenvsryu, on 07/21/2008, -8/+2What's an iphone app?
- rainbabyj, on 07/21/2008, -1/+2For every app that boosts your productivity, there are 10 more that decreases productivity. It's kinda like taking down BitTorrent websites..
- wontstoptalking, on 07/21/2008, -10/+5"Lifehack.org"?
Umm..... - elister, on 07/21/2008, -6/+0Why Twitter apps are released, I dont know, your default web browser is what works. Even my crap-tastic Pocket IE will work with Twitter. Must be me, but I find old school BBS's to be far more complicated than Twitter. Plus, Twitter is a dumb concept, it will never overtake IRC.
PS
Google is built into EVERYTHING these days, so it doesnt seem special to find an app for it on the iPhone. - LoudMusic, on 07/21/2008, -4/+4"Mocha VNC Lite
Oh, crap. I’ve just got in bed and want to do some reading online with my laptop, to relax before going to sleep. But I’ve left a torrent running on the computer in the home office and the Internet connection is so slow, it’s almost unusable!"
You know, smart guy, they make VNC clients for laptops too. No need to use a 3.5" screen.
Red Forman, "DUMB ASS."- gordeaoux, on 07/21/2008, -0/+4Dude, I have a laptop, and a basement. Sometimes I'm in the basement (like say with my xbox) and need to turn on media sharing on my laptop upstairs, so instead of walking upstairs, then back down, finding out it didn't work and it needs to be restarted, i pull out the phone.
Red Forman is a dumb ass though, but for not setting his up/down speeds on his torrents right.- LoudMusic, on 07/21/2008, -3/+1FAIL!
He was going to be using his laptop, so he thinks he'll use his iPhone to do a VNC session. Why not just use the LAPTOP to make the VNC session?
- LoudMusic, on 07/21/2008, -3/+1FAIL!

- flashback99, on 07/21/2008, -1/+14so basically there are no amazing apps that boost productivity out at the moment.
- feartheturtle, on 07/21/2008, -1/+7Dugg for the sole reason that the article isn't on 7 different pages
- RobotBuddha, on 07/21/2008, -1/+1I'm pretty happy with the apps so far. If someone would just put together a podcast downloading system I think most of the functionality I used from 3rd party apps on a jailbroken system should be there now.
- digitallysick, on 07/21/2008, -6/+3Google mobile app? isn't it the same as going to www.google.com in the browser and clicking "more" ? it doesn't really do anything.
- gthrank, on 07/22/2008, -3/+2Interesting to see how people have dugg this comment down. Evidently Apple fanboys have something against Google Apps. Perhaps it's because it's better, cheaper and less restricted than Apple's ridiculous effort "me.com"?
Blackberry has Google Apps. iPhone is behind.- digitallysick, on 07/22/2008, -0/+2I like google and i'm not an apple fan boy, but i don't get the point of the google app, its pointless
- reformation, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1Because it doesn't anything other than search google and your contacts.
What people actually want is a proper google app that does something.

- jqcolorado, on 07/21/2008, -6/+2Defintely check out http://www.inetworktest.com
It's rated in the top 25 for most popular iphone apps - kcap122, on 07/21/2008, -2/+1Productivity is a measure of how much you can get done in a given amount of time, right? Isn't any iphone app supposed benefit to productivity completely offset by the number of hours anyone with an iphone had to spend, completely idle, while waiting in line for an iphone?
- bays, on 07/21/2008, -4/+1what does writer mean by can't edit notes
- sfgamergirl, on 07/21/2008, -1/+2Does one of them involve having a hand reach up to slap me when I type in www.digg.com?
- Kanaka, on 07/21/2008, -0/+2Cool mug in the thumbnail
- dracostimpy, on 07/21/2008, -3/+2I skinned my iPhone to have Heath Ledger's many transcendent performances captured in each icon. For example, my Weather button is him as Casanova, my GPS is Heath as Ennis Del Mar, my Maps is Heath as Ned Kelly, my Calculator is Heath as Skip, my Stocks are Heath as Jacob Grimm, my Clock is Heath as Sonny Grotowski, my Text is Heath as Sir Ulrich, my Calendar is Heath as Gabriel Martin, and my Photos of course are Heath as the Joker. It's pretty much the best phone ever once you make those mods to it. Otherwise, it's pretty much useless.
- bbqsalad, on 07/21/2008, -0/+3wow.
- boobsbr, on 07/21/2008, -3/+12does it have a copy/paste app?
- bbqsalad, on 07/21/2008, -1/+1Buncha ***** right there.
- spikes, on 07/21/2008, -0/+3Still no SSH client in the App store, wonder if there will ever be. :
That's the primary thing I'm missing right now.- r2builder, on 07/21/2008, -0/+3Jailbreak it, and you can get ssh right now.
- hermes369, on 07/22/2008, -1/+2Maybe we'll get an iPhone Pro that will have a full featured shell.
- r2builder, on 07/21/2008, -0/+3Jailbreak it, and you can get ssh right now.
- binorgog, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Can anyone recommend an app so I can sync my outlook (windoze) tasks to any program so i can see them on my iphone?
- nutmac, on 07/21/2008, -0/+2Buried for recommending three crappy iPhone applications: (1) BookShelf ($9.99 for crummy eBook reader?), (2) Evernote (great website, horrible iPhone app), and (3) Twinkle (cute UI but why do I have to create Tapulous.com account to Tweet?)
And Google Mobile is NOT a Spotlight client for iPhone. It only searches your contact (just like Contact/Phone app), not "email and so on".- wisefool9, on 07/22/2008, -1/+2Yeah...pffffft. I'm not impressed by any of this guys picks. I wonder how many apps did he try out (productive or otherwise) to select these 7? Mocha VNC is exactly as it sounds, VNC on a tiny screen.
A jailbroken iphone would get you all of that functionality (sans Evernote server) technically for free (I am a donator myself, but I don't preach it) plus SSH, SFTP, gzip, and NES emulator, so ya' know, when you're in bed late at night and you're too freakin' lazy to walk to the TV in the next room you can still get your Mario on.

- thebza451, on 07/21/2008, -2/+4lol that guy in the pic looks like the biggest douche ever
- gthrank, on 07/22/2008, -0/+5If you think those apps actually help "productivity", I think I want your kind of job.
- cuteseal, on 07/22/2008, -0/+2I'm so glad that ebook readers are making their way to the iphone. Ereader.com / Fictionwise has now released an iphone reader, and there goes my last defence for sticking with palm/windows mobile! :D
By the way, check out my post on 5 iPhone Apps for Musicians:
http://www.guitarpug.com/2008/07/iphone-apps-guita ... - Avian00, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1Why is "Things" not in this list? Much better to-do app, IMHO.
- nawfos76, on 07/22/2008, -0/+0im gonna get it too..... nice....
http://hidrogen-fuel.blogspot.com/ - neseus, on 07/22/2008, -1/+1ha. he thinks the notes in the note app aren't editable. teehee!
- thewelshman, on 07/22/2008, -0/+0Stanza seems to do a good job for me as an iphone eReader. Has a large list of free books and once you download the dektop app on the mac its easy to convert files to the right format. Great for reading docs on the go and its free!
- mrchin, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1Twinkle doesn't work well for me. Crashes every time I try to check nearby tweets. Used to work as a jailbroken app but not anymore. Plus the user interface took a turn for the worse. Twitterific looks better, just needs the nearby function and public timeline. My 2¢
- webtrends, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1Awesome List. Thanks. I need time to try them all
- hsinray, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Not my favorite apps to use. I use the iphone to digg while I am away from my computer. Yes, I am a digg fanatic. http://digg.com/gadgets/9_Ways_iPhone_3G_can_make_ ...
- rayburn1976, on 07/24/2008, -2/+0I found a company that I just insured my 3G iPhone, my iPod touch and my wifes BlackBerry through. The service was absolutely top-notch!! Www.iphonereplacementservices.net is the address. I heard it on the radio in Michigan and I emailed them at customerservice@digitalcaboodle.com and they answered me back in less then 8 minutes! 8 MINUTES! I have never seen anything like this site! Pass the word, someone really cares and we know its not At&t or Apple. Get your stuff covered!! Great people to work with and the website was the real deal!!
