- teh_spazz, on 07/03/2008, -7/+5Good information, only problem is that it has been beaten to death by Engadget and Gizmodo.
- BrownManUPS, on 07/03/2008, -2/+6I'm sticking with the old one. Forking over even $10 more dollars for a faster internet while on the go when most of the time information can wait maybe a few more seconds? No thanks. Plus, I think a metal design is just better quality than a plastic design.
- MavRevMatt, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Especially since the 3G network doesn't reach everyone, and it's bound to be slowed down the first few weeks, maybe months, because I don't think AT&T will be as prepared as they should be for the spike in usage...
- GruntboyX, on 07/03/2008, -0/+8I had waited to get an Iphone knowing that they would upgrade it to 3g. However, the increase in monthly charges will keep me from purchasing the phone all together.
The data plan is an extra 10 bucks and now i have to pay for the 200 msg text package. Thats an extra 15 bucks a month from the original iphone.
No thanks. I really dont like the idea that my ipod now costs me 35 bucks a month. over my normal voice plan. - bodies_collide, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6the phone's cheaper and you are paying for the service. i think its fair over its predecessor. and its not like the iphone is the only phone with this price for the service. that is how att is. you are buying an ipod and an smartphone. it is not going to be that cheap.
- DrCrankenstein, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5It's not that bad. I make due with 450 minutes now but have to pay a bit for text messaging, so I could deal with $70/month and a bitchin everythingcomputer in my pocket.
- Schmich, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2bitchin everythingcomputer implies what? :/
- jpop, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1That he expects to hear "Is that a bitchin everythingcomputer in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"
- DrCrankenstein, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1an iphone.
- Schmich, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2bitchin everythingcomputer implies what? :/
- andyboyd, on 07/03/2008, -0/+7Does anyone else think this has been a poorly organised rollout so far? There seems to be so much confusion over pricing and subsidy eligibility.
- bodies_collide, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2too many sites assumed prices and plans. it is clear now though.
- AmyVernon, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4thanks for the info...
- lhodsdon, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4i'm still going to get one. *sigh* wish they could just keep the price lower, on plans.
- psogle, on 07/03/2008, -1/+5As an early adopter of the first iPhone it sucks that I now have to pay full price. Ok I am whining why wouldn
t I have to pay full price? - jquipp, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4I'll wait for them to get the bugs out before getting the new one!
- jaybol, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4this is the first time i've considered buying an iphone and switching from verizon
- abhim12, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4I am eagerly waiting for it to arrive in India
- ToeCracker, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4Think I'll wait to get my own iphone after reading this article.
- claycollins, on 07/03/2008, -0/+8So the only thing I care about is.... will this make my AAPL stock up go up?
- MavRevMatt, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2No, the iPhone release made the stock go down initially I think. Of course it came back up but who knows.
- freakin42, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1FYI, the same day as the 3G iPhone announcement, oil prices went up another 7 dollars a barrel. The ENTIRE stock market went down that day and the DOW closed at a record low for the last 5 years. The announcement didn't drive the stock price down as people love to claim, the whole market suffered that day and has been declining since. Blame our current weak dollar and the fact that OPEC can get better exchange rates from countries with a stronger economy.
- EatingPie, on 07/03/2008, -2/+4I'm glad they're offering an "unlocked" (probably just AT&T GoPhone) version. My iPhone screen is busted, but I'm holding it until the 3G comes out to see what my options are. 'm hoping I can upgrade and keep my GoPhone.
-Pie - ATLANTA287, on 07/03/2008, -1/+3Guyz trust me look @ the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 before making your mind about getting this phone.
- weneedsound, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2http://www.sonyericsson.com/x1/
I just watch the 'Film' in which they show you about 10 seconds of phone and another 2 minutes of paper areo planes. A bulleted list of features doesn't cut it.
Remember when the iPhone first came out; they had many videos of all the features. Sony is just tossing more crap into the market place. - masterkenobi, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2I remember seeing a preview of the Xperia of it on CNet somewhere, that looks really friggin hot, and much nicer than the iphone! Too bad it probably won't be available for Verizon Wireless.
I'm due for my new-every-two in a couple of weeks, was thinking about getting the Samsung SCH-i760 (got the same rating on CNet as the iphone, and higher user reviews), and has all of the features I want in a smartphone.
BTW, http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/mobilepho ... for more of an overview of the phone and more specs. The flash site is more of a brochure site for it, it seems.

- JoeyOS, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Thanks for the info!
- agentb111, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3i'm glad i held off on buying an iphone last year. it was pretty much a guarantee that a better one was on the way.
- PatrickA, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2The UK plans rock. £35 a month is good here.
- Veni_Vidi_Vici, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2OpenMoko FTW.
"3G to be released soon." - BRODEL, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2My only question:
Does ATT charge for incoming SMS? Not that it's a dealbreaker, but I would love to know this.- WestonP, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2Yes, they do.
- jpop, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2Yes, I get hit both ways, coming and going... :(
- WestonP, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2Yes, they do.
- orientis, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2FYI Australian iPhone wanters: I have a friend on the inside of one of the large telco suppliers of the iphone, the top download limit on the iphone plans will be 850MB. In Australia.
- freakin42, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Fact: The iPhone is not designed for everyone. Anyone who is worried about an extra 10 bucks a month, or paying for messaging.. this is NOT the phone for you. It's designed for power users who don't care that they have to pay a few extra bucks for the power they want. I plan to upgrade my current iPhone, because 35 bucks a month is chump change and I want the features and speed bad enough to pay for it. No mobile phone is for everyone, I don't know why people are so fixated on pointing out that this one is not for them.
- GruntboyX, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1because it shows that the phone has a niche market. And eventually adoption will saturate. the ipod was successful because it was priced fair and work great for the money. the premimum of the ipod was very worth the extra cost.
However, An Ipod and Cell phone cost lest then an Iphone. So what you are paying for is 35 bucks a month to have them integrated. for 35 bucks a month i can deal with carrying both.
