What's funny is the guy has the balls to tell people not to steal it in the URL: http://www.abiel.org/code-secret/iphonemyspace-sec ...
And even more irony: http://abiel.org/2008/03/29/why-i-hate-myspace/ One of his nits to pick with MySpace is that they copy Facebook features. Seriously? Is this guy for real?- bomg31, on 04/21/2008, -3/+2please watch this video: http://www.viddler.com/explore/abiel/videos/3/ I clearly state that I know I'm using Facebook's UI as a tool to design the features of my application and that their code and interface will absolutely NOT be in the final version of my application for legal and obvious reason. Before you go calling someone out, you should probably do your homework first. Thank you.

And when I say the Facebook UI is stolen, I mean literally stolen, not just kinda copied... like, he must have just saved the CSS and JS files.- MoofTheStoof, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3Yeah, it took me a couple minutes to see the "myspace" at the top of his screen and realize this wasn't a developer for facebook. - thenome, on 04/21/2008, -28/+17Not sure why anyone would want myspace on their iphone... but I do agree that flash is over rated, not to mention slow and low quality.
- TremorX, on 04/21/2008, -10/+6People who can't live without their flash-based-player porn videos are going to digg you down, but I agree
- digitalpencil, on 04/21/2008, -3/+8^^ How exactly is flash slow and low-quality?
Slow flash apps are due to crap AS, video quality is now H.264, audio AAC. I've never understood all the hating on Flash, the possibilities with AS3 are astounding and the vast majority of UI solutions that migrate to AJAX/CSS solutions are conceived in Flash in the first place.
Things like the carousel, lightbox, thumb-scrollers, practically every rich UI photo/video gallery and nav are all born of Flash.. It has revolutionized the web, is the most pervasive plugin on the planet and has brought streaming video to every machine with a Flash player, bypassing codec/player incompatibility, being truly cross-browser.
People seem to winge about it being closed-source but there is a huge OSFlash community and it's the dev's decision if they don't want you butchering/recycling their code. This is after all, our living.. having a skillset that sets you apart from every other kid lifting pre-written scripts off the web, largley creating the same generic, template-based crap as everyone else is kind of important in finding employment.- luchid, on 04/21/2008, -8/+2It's slow and resource hungry.

- RemyLogan, on 04/21/2008, -19/+10If Apple does offer Flash with the upcoming upgrade I'll turn it off anyway. I don't miss Flash at all. Sites that are entirely Flash based are usually a pain in the ass to surf anyway; even on a big screen with a broadband connection. On my desktop I run with Java turned off and can't think of a single site where I've had problems. On the iPhone I usually have javascript turned off too, and still manage to feel like I have the "real" Internet in my hands. There are a few things I hope Apple "fixes" on the iPhone (password entry, Keychain access, VPN status) that I think are serious issues.

- championchap, on 04/22/2008, -1/+1Maybe some of us out there like developing in Flash?
Theres pleanty I would love to do with Flash on the iPhone.
Making an entire website Flash is usually a terrible idea, but making an app in flash is far from a bad thing. - pastasauce, on 04/22/2008, -1/+1MP3tunes.com
16GB is not big enough for my music collection (it's about 40-80GB) and (while I'm not sure if they still offer this, I made an account while they were still called MP3Locker) MP3Tunes allows me to upload an unlimited amount of music to their server. So I can pick a few of my favorite albums for my iPhone and stream the rest using their flash player as I need it.
- logicalnoise, on 04/21/2008, -2/+18last time I checked zero punctuation is exclusively on flash video.
- topgigmedia, on 04/21/2008, -1/+20It only makes sense to have Flash (at least as an option) so that users can have a complete Web experience. For those of you that keep mentioning Flash as merely a way to deliver ads... you are either being silly or just don't want to admit that much of the widely used content on the Web targets the Flash player. Video, many RIAs, etc all leverage Flash.
I have proposed that when Flash does come to the iPhone, that it be an option in the admin panel that you can either turn completely off, on, or have it be activated by a user having the option to click on an object on a page (to activate). This 3-tier approach would might just appease all users :) - jabberwolf, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2You only need flash because you need it.
Since Apple says you DONT need it, that means you really need to learn to do without!
- 80hd, on 04/21/2008, -12/+13for what? tower defense and flashing adverts?

Anyone who likes to use the rest of "the real internet". Even the losers on MySpace.- 80hd, on 04/21/2008, -9/+7What killer app is being prevented by holding back on flash?
All I can think of are the PILES of advertising and little things like cheaply make speed tests and flash games.
The speed improvement and savings on screen space seem well worth giving up flash to me. - mrsteve007, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3What is funny is that just before the iPhone came out, Apple's own website used a good amount of flash. Also if you're a fan of entertainment sites like homestar runner or making fiends, and you use an iPhone, you're completely out of luck. Many blogs and news sites use flash video, including gizmodo and CNN. I also believe much of youtube's content is still flash, and has yet to be converted to the iphone compatible format. So yeah, there's a good amount of stuff out there that uses flash and iPhone users are completely out of the loop.
- geoken, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Even some of the .mac web galleries used Flash.
- 80hd, on 04/21/2008, -9/+7What killer app is being prevented by holding back on flash?

- wellyuk, on 04/21/2008, -3/+2So don't use it. It's not difficult. No one is holding a gun to your head demanding you use it.

- uberamd, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3Where is the creativity? Copying an existing design != a pat on the back.
- CrimsonBlur, on 04/21/2008, -0/+77So basically this guy copied the Facebook iPhone application but changed it to MySpace... awesome work? What does this have to do with Flash anyway?
- OneManArmy, on 04/21/2008, -0/+13because the usual myspace site heavily relies on flash when it comes to things like music playback. This means it won't work on the iPhone. But using this web app flash is not required.
- Raufs, on 04/21/2008, -9/+2Why would we need flash-support on the Iphone/touch?
Obviously, Myspace is the web's protagonist, whereas flash is only used by 12 year olds to make ***** cartoons with ***** graphics.- MyExSucks, on 04/21/2008, -1/+4You're dumb.

- hstege, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3Facebook was launched in late fall 2004. Back then it was without the wall, photo albums, groups, and annoying as hell 3rd party applications.
- sewerraccoon, on 04/21/2008, -1/+1I think he means that all of the peoples pages on MySpace and FaceBook use the pinicle of mid-nineties web design, Animated .gif's, bad midi music, bad backgrounds, and fonts that blend in with said backgrounds, the whole shebang! I hate Myspace and facebook, it's the armpit of the internet.

- p0tent1al, on 04/27/2008, -0/+1I really don't get how people would want to jerk off to porn on an iPhone. I mean what do you do, hold the iPhone with your left hand, and while squinting at the screen, jerk off with your right hand? Seriously?
- fakekevinrose, on 04/21/2008, -9/+10The only porn that apple would allow on the iphone are pictures of mac setups. which is sufficient jerk off material to your average mac fanboi.
- orly, on 04/21/2008, -0/+6When you click an mp3/wav link on an iPhone it redirects Safari to a Quicktime control that allows you to play/pause it. If the only time you use flash is to play songs on myspace then I suppose you are set, otherwise, this is not a replacement for Flash.
- skidooer, on 04/21/2008, -1/+2The same is true of video and there isn't much use for Flash beyond that.
- orly, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1until you want to embed video or sound on a page with other content, which i'd say is fairly important in most cases. also, quicktime is generally garbage as far as browser plugins go.
- skidooer, on 04/21/2008, -1/+2The same is true of video and there isn't much use for Flash beyond that.
- djh816, on 04/21/2008, -1/+9I'd still much rather have flash then a myspace webapp...
- mobilehavoc, on 04/21/2008, -3/+19WTF? How is an iPhone optimized MySpace page the equivalent or even better than Flash?!? This is lame.
- kaplanfx, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2I think he was implying that good coding can build mobile sites with all the functionality (in this case the myspace music player) of sites, without the flash plug-in (which Steve claims would be slow, and I'm unfortunately trapped in his reality distortion field). And here are some more brackets (because I use them a lot).
- MasterThief117, on 04/21/2008, -10/+4Last thing we need is Flash on an iPhone. At least if they add it, they need FlashBlock.

- JSager, on 04/21/2008, -0/+7Flash is very much something that I want on my iPhone and I am continually irritated that it's not there.
More than anything else, I want to be able to use flex applications in my iphone, and I cannot. Honestly, the last thing I want, as both a user and an application developer, is to have multiple user interfaces for the same product. Like it or not, Flash is a mainstay of the real web, and until the iPhone has it, I will still feel like I only have 90% of the web.- noahhoward, on 04/21/2008, -4/+2You ever think you could have saved yourself some irritation by NOT buying something that lacked the features you were looking for?
- JSager, on 04/21/2008, -1/+4On the balance, the iPhone is worth it. Just irritated about the Flash. Good luck on getting the 100% product.
- noahhoward, on 04/21/2008, -1/+1You're right, I own one too, I just don't think it makes much sense to be irritated about something you weren't promised in the first place. I do not think Flash is a mainstay of the real web as standards and accessibility (two things Flash is only loose associates with) are mainstays to real developers. As cool as Flex is, and as much as I'm ready to see it widely in use on mobile platforms, it's not there, don't whine. 90% of the web is a damned site better than 5%
- JSager, on 04/21/2008, -1/+4On the balance, the iPhone is worth it. Just irritated about the Flash. Good luck on getting the 100% product.

- luchid, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3I think there's an app for jailbroken iPhones out there that does that. I'm not sure though. There IS, however, a last.fm app that is amazing.
- Keggir, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1You want mobile scrobbler
- brett717, on 04/21/2008, -2/+3Alright, but I'd settle for AVI codec support... or is it out there already!? (Jailbroken or otherwise!)
- djh816, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3AVI is just container format...it can have any kind of video inside it. Getting something that will open AVI's won't do anything for you without having the codec for the video inside.
- r3zonance, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1And AVI is a crap container when compared to the extensibility of the MOV container.
- BloggerJohn, on 04/21/2008, -4/+2Umm.. me. Have you ever tried going on youporn or xtube with and iphone?
- OJdidntdoIT, on 04/21/2008, -6/+1dude sounds gay.
- luchid, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2You sound like a redneck.
- SystemError51, on 04/21/2008, -2/+3here's the source code
http://www.abiel.org/code-secret/ - fuseideas, on 04/21/2008, -2/+20I already have Flash on my iPhone:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mdurwin/1195230311/ - BannedTwice, on 04/21/2008, -1/+1pr0n. pure and simple.
- ramsinks.com, on 04/21/2008, -0/+9Is MySpace still a website?
- veracon, on 04/21/2008, -0/+7Was anyone else annoyed by those little ads that kept popping up inside the video area?
- ZackS, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2I didn't watch more than 30 seconds because 3 of them came up and I decided it wasn't worth my time if they were going to pull garbage like that. I do the same with every other site that uses similar in-video ads.
- repmekevets, on 04/21/2008, -0/+4myspace sucks ass
- crazysamz, on 04/21/2008, -4/+2EXACTLY, who needs it when we can all be running Skyfire beta on windows mobile, which has flash and all the basic browser stuff a normal desktop browser has... And it even works with sites like soutparkstudios and HULU!
- luchid, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3LOL Windows Mobile. No thanks.
- r3zonance, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3Windows Mobile has an amazing user interface too. The only thing slower than it is a slideshow (but only just).
- FetalSage, on 04/21/2008, -0/+4I'd much rather see him design a more unique layout of his mobile myspace instead of just ripping off the Facebook app.
Though, he's doing a much better job at creating a mobile version of myspace than myspace itself. - oilcan, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2but can you play Hello Kitty Island Adventure on it?
- flarn2006, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1Why would it matter?
- beingdevious, on 04/21/2008, -1/+8buried for not having ANYTHING to do with flash on the iphone.
...and myspace is for losers with e-friends- r3zonance, on 04/21/2008, -1/+2It's not supposed to be about flash on the iphone. It's about not needing flash on the iphone.
- Zemnexx, on 04/21/2008, -1/+2We don't need it.
- crashposition, on 04/21/2008, -0/+26Irony police: The video in the link is in Flash.
- mal1964, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2Night Photos
- imthemoviebuff, on 04/21/2008, -4/+7hmmm...what should we do for myspace's web app...
I KNOW! LET'S COPY FACEBOOK'S APPLICATION EXACTLY!
good idea. not. myspace sucks - iamanorange, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2iPhone version of facebook comes to mind...
- etx313, on 04/21/2008, -1/+2Well the idea is the iphone can browse regular sites. Lets not be microsoft here and expect everyone to conform to OUR standards.
Yes, the iphone needs flash. And I will not own one until it does. -
