Stephen Colbert reviews the iPhone
ifilm.com — Seems that everybody in the press has received a free iPhone for review. Except Stephen. But that will not keep him from reviewing it!
- 4019 diggs
- digg it
- ilkeryoldas, on 10/11/2007, -63/+11give me a free iPhone.. I will convince a LOT of people to buy it
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/11/2007, -37/+4Was that clip supposed to be funny?
- 0owh0r5xzs, on 10/11/2007, -5/+20You don't like him because he makes fun of conservatives, we get it.
- StealthTomato, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Oh, obviously the most logical conclusion. Way to go, leftard.
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Or maybe you only like him BECAUSE he makes fun of conservatives.
But the dude just isn't that funny.
- doogie68, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19Stephen Colbert has a better sense of "funny" than you. That's why he's on TV and getting his videos posted on digg and you're simply getting dugg down.
- stoobywon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4amen to that
- 0owh0r5xzs, on 10/11/2007, -5/+20You don't like him because he makes fun of conservatives, we get it.
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/11/2007, -37/+4Was that clip supposed to be funny?
- lemur2000, on 10/11/2007, -54/+11Give me a free iPhone, I'll use it, and if people ask how it is I won't tell them it sucks.
- craziestmule, on 10/11/2007, -14/+7we all know that his two week vacation is just a ploy for him to get an iphone and play with it without interruption.
- neiltc13, on 10/11/2007, -59/+19He didn't mention that:
iPhone cannot record video yet a bloody RAZR can
iPhone has a stupid aspect ratio
It costs $2000+
iPhone is bigger and heavier than most other consumer devices- CyberDesyner, on 10/11/2007, -8/+14I'll give you the video recording neglection if you would actually dare calling what you record on a RAZR video. But as for the others: What makes 16:9 a "stupid aspect ratio" may I ask? Don't see the point of the cost exaggeration and finally what's your point about the size when it's in the range of most Blackberries and business smartphones which it's competing against after all.
- zybch, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Its NOT 16:9. Even a cursory glance at any iPhone image should tell you that!
- WiseWeasel, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4It's a 2:3 ratio, 320x480...
- simplenation, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1480x320 = 3:2
- neau, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9480x320=153600, so what?
- danwallace, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1153/600 = .255? :o
- simplenation, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1480x320 = 3:2
- tdskate, on 10/11/2007, -12/+3Wtf do you mean with "iPhone has a stupid aspect ration" ??
- jrbrewin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5he said ratio. not ration.
- neiltc13, on 10/11/2007, -6/+30iPhone is NOT "widescreen" as Apple keeps saying. It is NOT 16:9 (or for that matter, 16:10). It's not as "wide" as them and therefore it is unsuitable for viewing a full 16:9 TV image.
The display has a 480-by-320-pixel resolution according to Apple.com, which makes it 3:2. This of course means it is a complete non-standard for video content and will be unable to render 16:9 or 4:3 videos without adding black bars or cropping and zooming.- unreg, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3So watching a video on the iPhone is like watching a letterboxed movie on my TV? Or on my iPod?
Wow, what a drawback. Thanks for pointing it out. - coasterswim, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8You may say it's unsuitable for viewing full 16:9 TV image, but it is MORE suitable than a 4:3 screen.
- unreg, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3So watching a video on the iPhone is like watching a letterboxed movie on my TV? Or on my iPod?
- glawton, on 10/11/2007, -10/+3$2000? What are you talking about? It's really simple, if you don't have AT&T, don't get an iphone. Then you won't have to worry about spending whatever exaggerated number you came up with that involves a contract and the phone. I get sick of hearing people bitch about this thing when they aren't even going to get it, or they just have some vendetta against apple. All reviews are positive, so go find something else to bash.
- StealthTomato, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Are they really? I didn't know that. I thought most reviews said that:
-iPhone has no 3G support, uses a much older/slower cell network system
-No removable battery
-No browser plugin/standards support
-No third-party development
-No chat
-No wireless downloads
-No MS Office/Exchange support
-No replacable battery
-No wireless sync
See, these all seem like negative things, if you ask me. But then, clearly I'm wrong, since I'm sure there must be ONE positive review. Somewhere.
But that's all I've seen in reviews. Oh, and the >$600 price.
- StealthTomato, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Are they really? I didn't know that. I thought most reviews said that:
- CyberDesyner, on 10/11/2007, -8/+14I'll give you the video recording neglection if you would actually dare calling what you record on a RAZR video. But as for the others: What makes 16:9 a "stupid aspect ratio" may I ask? Don't see the point of the cost exaggeration and finally what's your point about the size when it's in the range of most Blackberries and business smartphones which it's competing against after all.
- potp, on 10/11/2007, -23/+11so they are overcharging this piece of ***** pone so they can give it out for free to their employees and any other person who can whore it out to the public. wow. talk about getting ripped off. iphone users enjoy subsidizing iWhores freebies.
- hayden.evans, on 10/11/2007, -22/+2i highly doubt apple employees are getting free iphones
- CyberDesyner, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Full time and 1 year tenure part timers are in July. Jobs just announced it at a company meeting.
- elhutcho, on 10/11/2007, -8/+10They call it advertising. Apple just invented it. It's revolutionary and will change the market forever.
- jrbrewin, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4thankfully, your post was sarcastic. I thought another had fallen foul to the evil scourge that is the RDF
- maherjabr, on 10/11/2007, -7/+3You're right on point potp! I can imagine that the hundred or so freebies that they MIGHT give out would increase the cost of the rest of the units by a whole dollar or two. Thank god you're hear to reveal the scam!
- hayden.evans, on 10/11/2007, -22/+2i highly doubt apple employees are getting free iphones
- shortarabguy, on 10/11/2007, -53/+8I never really liked Stephen Colbert... He's just not very funny when he doesn't have a prop helping him out, like the word of the day on-screen thing, or his top ten list of things that are dead to him.
- WiseWeasel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12We don't take kindly to your kind around here...
- webmasterjoe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4You know those props are his own things, right? He decides what text should show up on the side while he also decides what he'll say. If he was just holding up a tricycle and saying how funny it is, then you'd have a point. But, just like anyone else who works in entertainment, he is delivering a whole package based on the medium he works in. Disqualifying some elements of the package by calling them "props" is unfair.
- missingnoh4x, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3YOU'RE dead to him now.
- Nomad559, on 10/11/2007, -19/+4Hey Stephen, Get a LG KE850 Prada

http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_ke850_prada-1828.php- cleverboy, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5Jesus, that video is annoying as hell. Takes about 40 seconds to realize it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING of interest to demonstrate about the Prada phone. This one is a bit better, but ultimately... Bleh. Bring on the iPhone. Enough with the Pradas and HTC Touch pretenders.

- ladyarcher85, on 10/11/2007, -12/+218This was the first iphone review that didn't make me want to shoot the person who reviewed it lol
- rrweetone, on 10/11/2007, -30/+8Normally Stephen Colbert is entertaining and humorous, but this was not a very funny sketch. Notice the over usage of laugh tracks, you can hear someone in the audience snicker once. Dugg down.
- techlinks, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Ummm.
Nevermind...
- techlinks, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Ummm.
- chazuk, on 10/11/2007, -24/+11Is that supposed to be funny?
Some people laugh at utter ***** it seems........- zybch, on 10/11/2007, -10/+12And some people buy utter *****. They're called mac fanboys.
- jrbrewin, on 10/11/2007, -9/+4no, but the iphone is revolutionary, and it will change all our lives, whether you like apple or not, for good!
- richardiscool, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Just like my MS Smartphone revolutionised society 3 years ago, with twice the features?
- jrbrewin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i was being sarcastic. :P
- jrbrewin, on 10/11/2007, -9/+4no, but the iphone is revolutionary, and it will change all our lives, whether you like apple or not, for good!
- NiteTrip, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9Some people need to TAKE THE ***** STICK OUT OF THEIR ASS and enjoy life. You can laugh even if something isn't hilariously funny.
- chazuk, on 10/11/2007, -8/+2Laugh at something just to please you?
Take that stick out of your arse more like.- webmasterjoe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Ooh, look at this, it's the culmination of all that is great about fighting on the internet.
No, YOU ARE!- missingnoh4x, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I know you are, but what am I?
- webmasterjoe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Ooh, look at this, it's the culmination of all that is great about fighting on the internet.
- chazuk, on 10/11/2007, -8/+2Laugh at something just to please you?
- zybch, on 10/11/2007, -10/+12And some people buy utter *****. They're called mac fanboys.
- missingnoh4x, on 10/11/2007, -6/+158I saw that the other day. Win. Really, given all his begging I'm surprised Apple hasn't given him one. "I've been sitting by my mailbox for ages waiting for my free iPhone, and all I got was some stupid book!" [Holds up copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows] "Spoiler alert: Hermione's a dude."
- PooPooEgg, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2lol
- seniorfrito, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10LOL what if after all these books they came out with that. Maybe like the very last page JK Rowlings wrote, PS Hermione's a Dude. Seriously my jaw would drop. I'd be like...wha?
- MagicToenail, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3If Emma Watson is a dude, then I'll be gay.
- blaw711, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0its Hallows.... but yea, just give the man an iPhone.
- LukyJay, on 10/11/2007, -14/+12Doesnt this belong in videos by the way?
- maherjabr, on 10/11/2007, -6/+12Quit your cryin
- golddigga, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1mirror? the videos down
- hadi, on 10/11/2007, -8/+1gimme an iphone, i'm crying too
- pauldy, on 10/11/2007, -10/+4I think the bigger problem is people don't realize Colbert is a comedian, they think he really is a reporter dishing out the news of the day.
- nodonoug, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8He's a reporter satirizing the news of the day.
If you're smart enough to tell the sarcasm from the news, he actually brings up a lot of things that most other news outlets are afraid to touch (same goes for Jon Stewart).- fixyourthinking, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4His satire IS THE NEWS - in some ways he makes fun of the news to bring attention to it - in a reverse psychology kind of way. Jon Stewart on the other hand IS FUNNY BUT has a liberal bias and agenda.
- missingnoh4x, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Jon Stewart doesn't have a "liberal agenda". He's just a slightly left-leaning guy whose job is to make jokes. If you really think he's trying to push some hidden subliminal agenda into all his viewers, you have problems.
- pauldy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I understand his humor, I also understand for the very reasons he mentioned he is not a reporter nor newscaster, just a funny guy, on the appropriate station "Comedy Central". And to restate my previous point, there is a problem with people who think he is a real reporter reporting the daily news. His material may come from everyday events but the facts are perverted and obfuscated to make them as humorous as possible. It has great comedic effect being able to relate to the events in such a humorous way but it isn't to be confused with the actual facts of those events.
- fixyourthinking, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4His satire IS THE NEWS - in some ways he makes fun of the news to bring attention to it - in a reverse psychology kind of way. Jon Stewart on the other hand IS FUNNY BUT has a liberal bias and agenda.
- atbnet, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I realize that and find it funny that The Daily Show and the Colbert Report are more informative than regular news because they say what other stations would fire their anchors over.
- nodonoug, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8He's a reporter satirizing the news of the day.
- rockoutloud, on 10/11/2007, -4/+55Very funny! Apple is getting more publicity by NOT giving Colbert an iphone! I wonder if John Stewart got one..
- logicalnoise, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2Stewart hates technology. Though does use a mac to write.
- rhyno2000, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11I also wonder if JON Stewart received one...
- maherjabr, on 10/11/2007, -10/+4I believe Steve Jobs a member of the North American Man-Bear Love Association. It all makes sense why he ignored Colbert's request. Colbert needs to look into this.
- 3rt41, on 10/11/2007, -12/+3Is this supposed to be a funny joke?
- Sithlrd, on 10/11/2007, -16/+12Great bit. But something tells me the iPhone doesn't need the Colbert Bump. :)
- cautiousspade, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2it may not need it but it should want it
- yingjai, on 10/11/2007, -0/+51The only iPhone post that I'm digging. Stephen's just too cool.
- IEatHamburgers, on 10/11/2007, -3/+134"Stephen Colbert reviews the iPhone"
A title tailor-made to get instant diggs.- kyledavis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Exactly what I was thinking. The OP just needed to add "with Ubuntu legalizing marijuana in Iraq....Bush sucks."
- NtHammer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1but they didn't use the word BREAKING, AWESOME, or AMAZING !
- seraph82, on 10/11/2007, -16/+5omg that sketch was terrible! How can anyone watch that trash?!
- logicalnoise, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1let me guess you enjoy the 1/2 hour news hour?
- blogdetroit, on 10/11/2007, -8/+1Hmmmmm....I wonder if Jon Stewart got one??
- stoic05, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3How great would it be to get all the latest stuff for free just by being a celeb?
- corleone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I don't think a celebrity would care much about the price of that latest stuff.
- anuttam, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2why do you think they are rich? they don't pay for a lot of things. few exceptions are mansions, cars and drugs.
- s1mph0ny, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That's funny, payton manning didn't even have to buy his "passion red" caddilac SRX.
- agentfoxtrot, on 10/11/2007, -49/+3Is it just me, or is this guy not funny at all?
- demiurgency, on 10/21/2007, -4/+13It's you. You're just not very funny.
Seriously, Colbert is hilarious, but his humor may not be for everyone (but really, whose humor is?) - logicalnoise, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12just you
- demiurgency, on 10/21/2007, -4/+13It's you. You're just not very funny.
- pheil, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17Comedy Central link to the video: http://www.comedycentral.com/motherload/index.jhtml?ml_video=89233
- twiceasworn, on 10/11/2007, -5/+27@agentfox
its just you. colbert is great.- myheaditches, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5The reply button, learn to use it.
- Rizzler, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5Not directing it towards this article or anything, but doesn't it seem like Digg has become a source of info primarily on the iPhone and Ubuntu? I see at least 3 articles on the front page all the time.
It may just be me though.- s1mph0ny, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3It's always been about apple and ubuntu. Apple doesn't have anything else going on now, and the only new thing about ubuntu is getting it on your dell.
- missingnoh4x, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You make it sound like this is new. Where have you been for all of Digg's lifetime?
- Rizzler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2haha, good point. But I do remember reading some interesting articles once... on some interesting stories... They seemed to have slipped my mind, maybe they were just Ubuntu stories :/
- Buckiller, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Your right... I think Ron Paul needs some more exposure.
- thedragon4453, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Lets not forget about Paris Hilton
- jmahorney, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7If I were Apple I would send this man an iphone first thing. Could there be a better promotion? The Colbert bump ain't no joke! If Steve jobs was smart he'd go on the show!
- anuttam, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0the Colbert Report demographic do not need any more convincing regarding the iPhone. They need to give one to Bill O'Reilly and some more old people and they will capture the entire US Market
- Noncentz, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Yeah If Jobs was on the show that would be big... fukin BIG.... unless of course Paris Hilton got scheduled the same night .........................
- Queue29, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6You're thinking of CNN
- iamasmallgoat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4and I honestly don't think that Colbert would want to interview Paris.
- mastererrob, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3hey widescreen wieners, stop complaining. i don't recall apple saying true widescreen ratio with amazing standards. they just said widescreen, as in...wider than it is long. you've been playing technical snob for too long.
- StealthTomato, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Forgive us our snobbery for wanting to watch high-quality video without stretching, squeezing, or obnoxious screenspace-stealing black bars.
How can we ever apologize enough?
- StealthTomato, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Forgive us our snobbery for wanting to watch high-quality video without stretching, squeezing, or obnoxious screenspace-stealing black bars.
- h2g242, on 10/11/2007, -1/+28Since he threw it on the floor... is he going to be able to find it now?
- corleone, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0Well, that I don't know. For sure though, if he finds it, it will be intact...
- oscotto, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Youtube... no freaking commercials: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-ZSlGwD2cg
- pw378, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5***** iFilm.com. Its a Viacom subsidiary. The reason Viacom is going to court with everyone is so they can force people to watch commercials before seeing a 'fair use' clip of Stephen Colbert. ***** them. Buried as Viacom Spam!
- venezian, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2what commercials? i'm on ifilm all the time and i have yet to see one...
- richardiscool, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2There's an advert for MS Office before every video
- venezian, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2what commercials? i'm on ifilm all the time and i have yet to see one...
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -1/+21I like how at the end of the video the iFilm thing came up and was like, you may also enjoy these videos: "Biggest Breasts".
- digjedi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Yeah, and I clicked it!!!
- in2deep, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The coverage of the iPhone is so in your face I cant remember any topic that received such coverage recently....what would you compare this type of coverage to?
- StandardsDT, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Any other Apple news that got over hyped.
- s1mph0ny, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Uh, the war on terror.
- missingnoh4x, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Paris Hilton's existence. Somebody needs to kill her already so the major news networks can pay attention to what's actually going on in the news. It's kind of sad that two certain news parodies are now much more informative than any mainstream news channels.
- wandywalsh, on 10/11/2007, -7/+0Go to www.nextworth.com and trade in your old iPod and get a new iPhone! NextWorth will send you a prepaid, insured shipping box and days after you return your iPod to them, they will send you a check -- I got over $100 for mine.
- Zackypooh, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I already saw this on a little something called the television, but I have to digg anything with Stephen Colbert in it...
- Acura666, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2That was lame as *****!
- zforrester, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1I cant help but feel a little disheartened by the fact that this link got nearly 3000 votes, while mine got only 3.... i know i know, everybody hates a sore loser. I dont care, I'm still sore about it.
http://digg.com/videos/comedy/Apple_Give_Colbert_an_iPhone_please- zforrester, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1never mind... my vid just got pulled for copyright violation
shiza - joshpar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Oh well... and I just dugg yours and buried this one as a duplicate.
- mercurysquad, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1lmfao
- zforrester, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1never mind... my vid just got pulled for copyright violation
- cautiousspade, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1i really want to buy him a iphone and send it to him, it not far colbert should have like 50 iphones.
- jordan314, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Anyone have a mirror that works?
- DeQuinceysDiet, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Yes. Being a vampire, it only casts reflections of my clothes. I have to make the assumption that my face is looking hot.
- StingingNettle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yeah and if Jobs was REALLY smart he would appear on the show himself to hand it to Colbert
- rwilliam42, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0After watching the show last night I was thinking there must be something in the works. Apple can't be ignoring this.
- sunshinemonster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I was thinking about how that would run down, Jobs comes on the show, gives Colbert his present, they talk about it, Jobs helps Colbert play with it and Colbert says something like "Ooo, thats nice."
- randyrandall, on 10/11/2007, -8/+4Wow, that really just was not funny. Is this what comedy is like in America?
- hijstr, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1that was incredibly unfunny
- slickhare, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Stephen Colbert + iPhone = Average Digger's Wet Dream?
- rebotfc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Well I dont know about you but I came.
- halvertos, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2geez, he's just not funny.
- thebuggalo, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2i agree... he used to be entertaining... now he just comes off as an ass. he is too cocky. I used to like his show more than the daily show, but colbert isn't humble about his show anymore.
- 582ND3R5, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0It's a phone people. Just like the Razr or Treo everyone and their brother will have one and oh wont your individuality shine then? Apple is like religion, they like to pretend they are the outsiders but in reality they are big business. What was their slogan a few years back, "Think Different"
