- plum, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14If anyone wants to try it, here it is:
Tubular 0.9.2 (3.7MB)
http://www.mediafire.com/?4yjyjm2dtym
(it's safe to update it to 0.9.3)- willynilly, on 10/12/2007, -51/+5Oh yeah, we all remember that...
What planet do you live on? Because on Earth, no one knows or gives a ***** who or what this is. - subterfu9e, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15willy, i don't think we give a ***** who you are or what you think either. If you have nothing to say, just shut up!
- willynilly, on 10/12/2007, -51/+5Oh yeah, we all remember that...
- Mejogid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+42I really hate this sort of shareware app. All the app does is screen scrape data from youtube - stripping google of revenue from the site - and then use open source tools to carry out some very basic operations on it. It then display it in a less useful and interactive way than normal, but with oh so pretty cocoa widgets. And then the guy has the cheek to charge $13 for a pre-alpha quality 'beta' with a deceptive version number of 0.9.3.
No thanks.- treelovinhippie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Agreed. The only decent thing I saw in the screencast was a one-click option to download and convert the video to a ipod format, which then gets added to iTunes and syncs up next time you connect your ipod.
- EvilDude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5A functional windows program that does that and more...
http://www.ipodsoft.com/site/pmwiki.php?n=Ivy.HomePage
Check out the demo of it on YouTube,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bmd_z_lUMj8 - Xageroth, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Maybe I'm a horrible person but I always pirate software and only pay for the software that I've used for a while and I know is worth the money. The "free trial" is over when I think it's worth what's on the price tag.
- andrewcod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You could also just use the free Democracy Player. It may not look quite so good, but at least it works, and supports YouTube, Google Video, Yahoo Video, and more.
http://www.getdemocracy.com/ - bonexaw, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Agreed. + PayPal link, lol
- alphonse55, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9This is all Phil Ryu does. He is great at creating hype but in the end thats all it is. I can't believe anyone actually paid for this. Again he is doing no real work and getting his pockets lined by all the fools that bought into this BS. Just like all the developers getting screwed on Macheist while Phil and his team walked away with about half a million. Hopefully people will learn to avoid this douchebag.
- tony.pitale, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Yup, I paid for it. I doubt I'll ever do that again. Forgetting for a moment that Democracy does much of the same thing (not all), integrated into a free application that does something else as well. Democracy has a long way to go to be perfect (like listing more than ~20 items from a search) but it is far ahead of tubular at this point. Either way, I hope tubular comes out to be something fantastic, and for goodness sake get rid of the youtube controls in the video window!
- darkbutterfly, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0Anyone besides me think this was a video?
- n8dawg87, on 10/12/2007, -6/+26These guys are a bunch of kids. Phil's 18 or 19, Steve(tubular dev) is 18. They clearly have a lot of growing up to do and learn to take some responsibility for their actions, especially when it involves other peoples money...
- quakenul, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8How mature it is to point out the age during this conflict, specially since everybody knows that "real grown ups" would never ever ***** with others peoples money and always naturally seem to do the morally right thing. Don't they?
- miyamotofreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I torrented the beta. It's garbage. So dissapointed. I can't believe there are actually people giving positive feedback.
- percussionlab, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7These two pulled the same ***** with "iclip 3.0" they had mockups posted like the app was actually going to come out. i paid for a preorder. that was 5 or so months ago...
bad business.- miyamotofreak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That's supposed to come out tonight...
- goodoldharris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes, definitely bad business. Seems like that's a lesson that needs to be learned by the people selling this app. But there's a lesson for consumers to learn too ... Never pay for software that doesn't exist yet.
- standsolid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I don't know.
I think the beta is functioning basically as it should. He ran in to a development hurdle and updated the blog a couple of weeks ago to notify everyone of what was going on.
If you don't want to try a beta quality app, why would you preorder?- miyamotofreak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2You shouldn't acccept pre-orders unless you have a functioning, somewhat stable beta which this developer obviously didn't have. That's what's wrong with this. When people pre-order they assumed they would get a somewhat glitchy, but essentially finished (just a little rough around the edges) product. Not this garbage. The dev misled the mac community.
- MrMacMan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I dunno people get high hopes when you say your going to produce something actually worth money. They expect that thing to be worked on with many many updates to get it into working fashion.
In this type of Pay for Beta the dev is better off offering small, weekly updates instead of trying to work out other large scale issues. People want to see results for the product they paid for. In this case it wasn't something that was supposed to be hard -- ala searching in the application window without the app failing.
I dunno it has fundamental flaws and paying for a beta is never, ever a good thing. - gmckenzi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0In light of all the comments about the reported ages of the developers, I'll assume that folks who pre-ordered were adults and capable of measuring their risk. Anyone even peripherally familiar with software will also not be surprised to find the promises of releases will slip, and slip -- releases rarely get out in as timely a fasion as initially planned.
I pre-ordered knowing full well that it was a gamble. But given the price, and that I wanted to send a message with my dollars that I supported the idea of such an application, and I was willing to take that gamble.
If the application didn't pan out, I would have shrugged at losing my few dollars, been disappointed undoubtedly, but not gotten anywhere as pissed-off as some others have apparently become.
People: as much as people who con or rip others off should be held to account (and in this case I personally haven't found the developer to be misleading), it is also your responsibility to assess risk when you part with your money.
- goldenratio, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5caveat emptor
- sketchstudios, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2old ...
http://www.digg.com/apple/Youtube_app_Tubular_for_Mac_going_down_the_Tubes - homeskillet77, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3"his blog and they were selling preorders to it …" and then you say "the thing is months away and he's still selling it!" Ummm..I suggest you look up the term preorder, because that's what you just described and seem to be angry or upset about. If it was out [ read: gold ] and he was selling it and people didn't get what they paid for..then I see an argument there. But to preorder something is to pay first and WAIT for it to ship. I know you can do this simple logic in your head. Word to the wise, if you are going to rant and rave online; take a minute or two and use the grey matter I assume you have between your ears, then start typing. Posting crap like this makes you look uninformed and more than a little bit childish. I came away after reading this and thought of a little kid stamping his feet and holding his breath because his mommy didn't want to buy him the latest Power Ranger doohickey! blah blah blah
- thanksgiving, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8does anyone really care about this phil ryu kid? buy him some clearasil and move on
- yesno, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I don't see a point to get those videos on my hard drive. If it's there on the web all the time, why would I want to go throught the mess to put it on my hard drive and those videos are low quality, not worth downloading.
- miyamotofreak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2maybe to put it on your ipod, or keep it if if youtube takes it down?
- ralphdagza, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5he needs to get laid
- brittanyronan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3agree
- kmfischer, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2I bought the App it's working fine for me .....
To keep a Community healthy .... there should be threads like these ... but these guys need too eat.
It shows transparency .... there is obviously a problem ....
BUT uploading it to be Bittorrented is über childish.
I say I paid .... release the Source Code.- greymarketbrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5blocking you for your sheer ignorance.
- mokolabs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5After making half a million on MacHeist, Phil Ryu most definitely does not need to eat.
- kmfischer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1HALF a MILLION CHEEZ !
- greymarketbrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10And all those times Digg promoted Phil and his spamming the digg system to make a ***** of money. I'm glad the stupid ppl paid for craptacular vaporware. And I'm glad to see a "good name" dragged through digg.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Shouldn't this be under software? Calling it Apple news is kind of a stretch.
- DidntYouHear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think the best part of this is how genuinely pissed off people are in the comments of the blog. Not a single happy customer until half way down the page.
- dreslimmul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I also pre-ordered this app. I don't think anyone is happy at this point with Tubular. Never mind what needs to be updated, if the program just worked I would be happy to wait a month for an update... unfortunately, even basic controls are horrible. I would rather open my web browser and just go to YouTube rather than work through Tubular at this point.
I can't figure out if this was a scam or if the guy really has no idea what he is doing. This will be the last time I pay for a BETA. Lesson learned.

- bryanchang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you are not happy with the app and you placed your pre-order via Paypal, you should be able to ask them to refund you.
- CreativeGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have two comments about this:
1) Anything Phil Ryu touches or has any involvement whatsoever in is bound to be late, way over-hyped and most likely not worth the time it took you to type the URL. He can't even maintain his own damn blog for cryin out loud. Need references: WidgetMachine (nothing new in several months), MacThemes (nothing new in over 2 years), ResExcellence (nothing new in several months), MacHeist (never had the 6th heist, and scammed the developers), blah, blah, blah...
2) If you were stupid enough to PAY for POSSIBLY getting a working product, you deserve to get screwed. I mean really, what the heck were you thinking??? Beta means it's a piece of ***** filled with bugs. Beta means "we're trying to get it to work." And uh, I hate to break it to some of you budding lawyers in here, but you can't sue them because you voluntarily payed for a product that technically did not exist on the market yet. You had no reasonable expectation of receiving a final shipping product immediately after paying. Basically you're just S.O.L. - codebowl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i wonder what would happen if everyone who pre-ordered asked for a refund lol i know there is no way we would all get it back they have already spent the money on alcohol partying it up when they promised releases with deadlines they couldnt meet
