- GunDownCCL, on 03/21/2008, -8/+1Shut up man. Every mac user knows that Apple has some bad faults, and that it screws up. Its just that it makes a better product.
- elambing, on 03/21/2008, -7/+1and microsoft doesnt?
- skeletorcares, on 03/21/2008, -1/+3you say apple sounds like microsoft? that's firmiliar.
- jemka, on 03/21/2008, -1/+6It doesn't matter how many times you jerk off to your favorite OS or music gadget, these companies want one thing; your money. Until you realize that, you'll be playing these fanboy games your entire life.

- juicebag, on 03/21/2008, -2/+7Closed in comparison to corporations that aren't ***** stupid. Let's see:
OSX is only for Mac computers
Content from their iTunes store is only allowed to be put on an iPod
Content from other subscription services cannot be put on an iPod but can be put on most other popular MP3 players- mrsteveman1, on 03/21/2008, -5/+4OSX only works as well as it does because Apple doesn't have to play ***** games with 50,000 different configurations of hardware, most of which barely work, most off the shelf hardware sucks. Apple has tried the licensing thing before, it failed miserably. Buying "appliance" devices seems to be working quite well for Apple, even though its annoying to be unable to buy the hardware from anyone but Apple.
iTunes content only works on iPods because of the DRM. Go buy an iTunes plus track and you can put it on any device you want to, even a Zune.
Other subscription services use WMA-DRM, which is the most locked down format ever invented, much worse than HDDVD or Blu-Ray. Apple has no interest in licensing it for the iPod because it is horribly unreasonable and bad for consumers, far worse than FairPlay. Besides that, Apple has been wildly successful without licensing WMA-DRM, while every subscription service using WMA-DRM has failed miserably, and Microsofts own player no longer supports the system. So why exactly should Apple buy into a system that customers obviously don't want, and that Microsoft doesn't even support anymore?- juicebag, on 03/22/2008, -0/+12 dollars a track at 256 kb/s? No thank you.

As someone already owning an iPod, I'd like to be able to buy into this, too.- Drizzit, on 03/21/2008, -0/+2Considering their performance with rentals where many movies that were previously purchasable are now rent only I hope they're not dumb enough to force a subscription on people.
Perhaps they should instead ask to not require DRM since other music stores appear to have no problem getting DRM free deals. - alphaterminus, on 03/21/2008, -1/+1As someone who owns a Sandisk Sansa, and has used the Rhapsody to go service since it has been out, I'll vouge for this. I have a collection of CDs that I ripped to MP3s 10 years ago, and every month I keep about 2 gigs of those on the Sansa and mix in 2 gigs of Rhapsody to go... and I'd call it a perfect combination. If Itunes offered a comparable service, I'd switch to an Ipod Touch instantly so I could seamlessly integrate podcasts and videos. I was hesitant about the subscription idea at first, but now I wouldn't do it any other way.

- Daniel591992, on 03/21/2008, -1/+4Sad, but true. Apple's been screwing over iPod users recently with the $20 App update and the App store update (which touch people have pay for) in June. Perhaps they should learn from Sony and Microsoft that new features should be free.
- mrsteveman1, on 03/21/2008, -1/+3It hurts them as a company more than it helps, I doubt they make any significant revenue from those updates. So either their accounting dept is retarded, or the law actually DOES require this sort of accounting and needs to be changed.
- mrsteveman1, on 03/21/2008, -3/+3Lets try a little experiment:
---------- is well known for ignoring the wishes of their own customer base, abusing their position in the market to lock in customers, and avoiding real competition wherever possible by destroying competing products or buying them out.
Which one fits better, Apple, or Microsoft?- YourMaster, on 03/21/2008, -2/+4A) What the hell are you talking about? Nobody mentioned Microsoft. That doesn't have anything to do with anything. It's pure troll.
B) Apple is also well known for much of that except for the "abusing their position" part, although they're on their way with things like pushing Safari on users of Quicktime and iTunes.
A) Back to A again. Jesus Christ. We need a new law in the spirit of Godwin's Law to cover bringing up Microsoft / Ballmer / whatever when it's entirely irrelevant. I mean, you might as well have said:
Let's try a little experiment:
---------- is well known for ordering the torture and murder of hundreds of thousands of people.
Which one fits better, Steve Jobs or Adolf Hitler? THEREFORE I conclude the Macbook Air will sell well.- mrsteveman1, on 03/21/2008, -4/+1It's called a comparison. No one had to mention Microsoft first, because *I* did, to point out that Apple isn't trying to harm their own customers, while plenty of other companies *ARE*.
Apple isn't a monopoly in any sense of the word, even the ridiculously inaccurate one that Diggers use all the time to bash them. Because they do not have a monopoly, they obviously can't abuse it to further their own goals.

*not that I partake in that oh so obviously illegal activity... seriously. - Lyph5, on 03/21/2008, -2/+43iPod sales are slowing because EVERYONE ALREADY HAS ONE. And the newer ones don't offer much new. the iPod Touch adds a new interface, sure, but it doesn't radically change the concept any. Don't get me wrong, I love my iPhone, but unless Apple can figure out a way to make their must have item even more "must-havey" the sales are going to slow as the market becomes saturated.
- CamperBob, on 03/21/2008, -4/+8Yeah, the Touch is an interesting piece of hardware. Almost all of its gee-whiz features are nonfunctional if you don't happen to be near an open WiFi access point.
Many of those who buy into the iPod Touch are going to kick themselves for not spending the extra $100 and getting the full-fledged iPhone, I imagine. EDGE sucks, but it's much better than no IP connectivity at all.- taintedzodiac, on 03/21/2008, -0/+8It's an extra $100 plus $60/month (or the difference between $60 and your current cell plan). Over a two-year contract, the comes to at least $580 for your average user. That's a new iPod every year if you go with the Touch.
You have a point, but not everyone cares about being able to use the online features of their mp3 player everywhere they go. Beyond that, some people actually can get WiFi access most places.- Lyph5, on 03/23/2008, -0/+1you're acting like the cellphone fees are just going away. You're ignoring the fact that you get internet access anywhere you can connect to EDGE. I was shotgunning down the highway looking up facts on wikipedia for a conversation I was having with the driver. Bringing that everywhere you go is worth the money paid for the contract.

- deandekker, on 03/21/2008, -0/+2I think the touch is very different and paired with the upcoming apps store will definitely change the concept. I can't use the Internet everywhere I go, but when I'm near a wi-fi hotspot I can check my mail, get the weather, check the stocks, browse the Internet, and use google maps. When I'm not around a hotspot I can use cached information (directions from google maps are a great example). As far as gee whiz goes, the basic video, music and photo functionality are wonderful on the 160+ dpi screen, and the battery lasts much longer than the classic ipods.
- Lyph5, on 03/23/2008, -0/+1But if you're in the target demographic for the iPod Touch you probably have a laptop, and if there's wifi around and you're not just walking past a hotspot, you'd be able to whip that out.
With my iPhone, I can check my email while driving to and from work. The iPod Touch is just to answer the cries of the people locked into a different cellphone company who cried about not being able to get an iPhone.- deandekker, on 03/25/2008, -0/+0I guess it all depends on whether you think of the touch as a powerful iPod, or a crippled iPhone.
- taintedzodiac, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1I have a laptop, but I don't bring it into Starbucks or Panera with me. I just use my Touch to look up the latest info and check my mail while I wait for my order. If you're in the demographic for the iPod Touch, and you have a laptop, you quickly realize why you would want both.
I also prefer to not use my cell phone battery up surfing the web, but that's just a peronal preference. I don't like having to have a car charger for my phone, but obviously it's not a concern for some people.

- YuriSakazaki, on 03/21/2008, -8/+1The Pirate Bay is TERRIBLE for music. Seriously, the only way to get quality music via torrents is a private tracker like Waffles.fm or something.
- reed311, on 03/21/2008, -2/+5You're right, and stealing merchandise will always beat buying it.
- smp734, on 03/21/2008, -2/+3Yep stealing is the best bet...How bout drugs and violence to along with it?
- silence7, on 03/21/2008, -1/+10What they don't tell you is, the price of a 160gb iPod just went up to $39,600 ea.
Seriously, this woulda' been cool, but I don't see the record companies letting Apple do this any time soon.- micropizzle, on 03/21/2008, -0/+5Most record companies let Microsoft do it with their Zune Subscription pass.
- asdfrewq, on 03/21/2008, -4/+5Because they know no one uses the Zune :)

- juicebag, on 03/21/2008, -0/+2The thing is, communism does _sound_ good. The problem is that it is never implemented well or just plain doesn't work.
- USB2point0, on 03/21/2008, -0/+4yeah, when i criticize apple, it's to push them to be better. Because they're so far ahead of the game, they need to keep going and make it the perfect product. The iPod is amazing, but it's still flawed in places.
The American economy for one, isn't doing do hot, and people can't afford luxuries like ipods right now. With gas the way it is, I can't buy as many songs as I used to. That's a song a gallon increase in the past year or so.
So, to apple, if you wanna sell more ipods, make them cheaper. [and for freaking sake, don't charge ipod touch owners for ANY update, that's pure BS. Song gives out their updates for FREE for the PSP, and it adds functionality] Adding a subscription service is going to get the people who could afford it anyway.
Speaking for the middle class people, I can't go out and buy whatever I want. I have to watch my money. - digitallysick, on 03/21/2008, -3/+7But I already have unlimited tunes with my torrent plan. Yarr
- elambing, on 03/21/2008, -1/+2i torrent too, but i think i would switch to this just so that i know what im getting is legal and virus free. plus you can get the albums/songs that people are too lazy to put out on torrents
- digitallysick, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3Yeah i would to, just because it would be easier, high quality, etc
- elambing, on 03/21/2008, -1/+2i torrent too, but i think i would switch to this just so that i know what im getting is legal and virus free. plus you can get the albums/songs that people are too lazy to put out on torrents
- Monkeywithacold, on 03/21/2008, -0/+2I would love it if they did this. I used to subscribe to Rhapsody, but gave up, because removing the DRM, importing to itunes, and downloading album art was a hassle I didn't really want to do. Having a service was really nice though, it made everything very easy and convenient.
Not to mention, 10 bucks a month? No way I would pass that up.- zdiggler, on 03/21/2008, -1/+3Easy, just get a better MP3 player.
- roebeet, on 03/21/2008, -0/+2Agreed, if you have an iPod as the DAP. Ripping the DRM is easy, but the hassle of transferring WMA's to another format + the quality loss + tagging and adding Album Art must have been a nightmare.
zdiggler has the right idea, though. Depending on where you get your source audio, an iPod make not be the best solution for you. If WMA-based subscription services are really what you want, you should have a DAP that can read the format. You can also try Rockboxing your iPod, if it's supported and you want to ween yourself off iTunes, completely (www.rockbox.org). - theshalit, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1Zune has had that feature since launch I believe
- zdiggler, on 03/21/2008, -1/+3Easy, just get a better MP3 player.
- roebeet, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3The "best" DAP out there is totally subjective. Personally, I don't get the whole iPod / iTunes thing anymore - it was groundbreaking 5 years ago, but today I'm not as convinced. I feel it's the XP / Vista of the DAP world - 90% of the audio users have one, but are they really satisfied with the setup?
I have a Sansa E200 for travel / recording / FM and a Gigabeat F for home audio use and video, btw - both Rockboxed. iPod's are way too expensive for what they offer imo, and the jailbreaked iTouch sounds like the PocketPC I already own.- zdiggler, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3What I want is POD CAST player now.
One that will manage netshows and video casts like how email client handles email.
Every show will be bookmarked at last position, Ask me to delete after I listen like Tivo, Bolder text for new show I have not listen to, regular text for ones I listened to.
Should have wlan connection that automatically download new show when it connect to the net with resume. Time stamped show notes as the show play if producers make it.
Also play MP3/Divx etc.
- zdiggler, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3What I want is POD CAST player now.

- smakusdod, on 03/21/2008, -1/+5Zune FTW. Seriously. Syncing from multiple computers, unlimited downloads with ZunePass to MULTIPLE zunes (you don't need a separate download account for multiple zunes and multiple computers). Before you fanboys downmod, sure the wifi features of the zune are kind of lame (except for wireless syncing) you should really take a hard look at what Microsoft is doing right with the zune and more importantly, the zune software and download service.
- Jamieee, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1It wont be in the europe until 2020 though -sighs-
- AduNeButt, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1The one thing Microsoft did better than Apple here is the Zune Pass, unlimited downloads for $15 a month, please.
