or i could spend that money on a 40 inches 1080p LCD TV that lets me connect any computer (some with the need of an adapter)

Superior color accuracy, extremely good viewing angles, and a Firewire 400 and USB 2.0 hub. Oh, it's also DVI.
The new 24" monitors look too bulky for pro work, and trimmed back on essential features (like Firewire) for non essential features (like a camera). Oh, and you can't hook them up to the Mac Pro. Even if there was an adaptor or a Mac Pro with mini display port, it's still proprietary mini display port...
