- TubbyCat, on 10/11/2007, -14/+261I can see this making the front page in a second.
- ericodom, on 10/11/2007, -46/+13And it's a shame no one was paying attention earlier.

Digg me down. I'm sick of dupe stories.- andyduncan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+42your title was not NEARLY sensational enough, too Times, not enough SUN, not even close to enough exclamation marks.
- GliTCH82, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13You know, that really says something right there. We mock sensationalism, capital letters, exclamation points and all, and yet time and time again it proves to work quite effectively. I think as long as we don't reach the point of justifying a Paris Hilton story as breaking news, we'll do just fine.
- andyduncan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+42your title was not NEARLY sensational enough, too Times, not enough SUN, not even close to enough exclamation marks.
- ericodom, on 10/11/2007, -32/+6Doh! Yours was earlier. Nice one. Now double Digg me down.
But this goes to show the flaw in Digg's system. Why was I not presented with the first story when trying to Digg the second?- hamdogger, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5sorry to hijack, but i've been browsing for a couple of months. i don't understand digg's system at all; flaws or no flaws. how do you guys use it? i set preferences to expand full tree and read down the line. is that how you're supposed to do it?
oh, and to leave a valid comment, i believe this is a rumor and not an official announcement. thanks for reading.- mablco, on 10/11/2007, -1/+101. read news, watch videos, surf the web basically..find something interesting you think the digg crowd will..uhh..digg, then digg it, submit it. however, if the system tells you its already been submitted, come up with a catchier headline and submit anyway.
2. browse through the site, quickly glance at headlines and summaries. digg or bury appropriately, dont worry about reading it. if it says ron paul, george bush, linux, pwnd, breaking, [pic] or "BREAKING", just digg it. if it says ron paul, !!1!!, 9/11, "title says it all", or (pic) digg down.
3. leave witty comments. if sarcastic, do not point out you are being so. digg users should be smart enough to tell, and you should be smart enough to make it obvious.- DatoeDakari, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2lol Someone should make a plaque out of these guidelines, so everyone can have them to look at and follow while digging.
- ldavid, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2lmao. brilliant. you just explained the world of digg in one paragraph.

- NgrHader, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11It was only obvious they'd make an iPhone nano or lesser expensive version for the masses once the first adopters show sales sucess
- pushmouse, on 10/11/2007, -8/+44In a Nano second.
- dawesdust12, on 10/11/2007, -8/+3I see what you just did there.
- fullstop102, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1ba dum tish!
- over9, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16How the hell are you supposed to type in it considering the complaints about the full size iPhone.
- Audacitor, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Like the article says, reduced functionality. I'd have to know the size of screen to make a remotely accurate guess, but I'm thinking it'll likely sync with your Safari bookmarks. If your in Google or any other situation that really needs typing, it'll use a method similar to the search feature already on 5G iPods. If you want to hit a link, you 'scroll' through them with the wheel, like you can tab or shift-tab in web browsers.
Like I said though, those are all guesses.- evilspoons, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Or it might not even have web capabilities. It might just be an iPod Nano that can *phone* people. I'd buy that.
- abandonedhero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I don't really think it will support Safari. Think about the interface.
- whitehornmatt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Well instead of a full sized qwerty they can give an electronic number pad with letters on it (like most phones)
- reiner15, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It would be a glamor phone, like some of the nokias that don't have keypads.
- Propapanda, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3It will only include the left half of the onscreen keyboard. It's all you really need anyway.
- GawtMilk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4A nano iPhone? What's it going to have, 8MB of memory?
- abandonedhero, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1I think you mean 8GB.

- Scheissen, on 10/11/2007, -4/+149***** this *****. The only reason why this made it to the front page was it said it was "announced." No where in there is it announced, it is speculated by an analyst saying Apple is interested in releasing a lower cost iPhone. OMG rlly?
Buried inaccurate.- jull1234, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15Ya Rly.

- bigteebo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I can see articles about articles about this making it to the front page, make it to the front page.
I hope this isn't true, otherwise this site, engadget, and about 2000 other tech link aggregator sites will have nothing but iphone cnotent. - robbh66, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19Marked inaccurate. Apple has announced nothing of the sort.
Besides...HOW EXACTLY will they base a phone on the nano- the iphone already IS a phone based on flash like a nano. - goodluck4287, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3People this is fake, learn to read. RUMOR!
- gyrfalcon, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1I'm waiting for the iPod Mega... with a fukin SD slot. :D
- luvs2spooge, on 10/11/2007, -8/+2I'm waiting for the iPhone Shuffle.
Hopefully it will be the size of a quarter and be able to store thousands of phone numbers, which I can dial at random!!!
(Hope that joke hasn't already been made)- naio, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Yes, it has. Several times.
- luvs2spooge, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Sorry 'bout that.

- Konstantino, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It seems the submitter has only ever submitted iPhone stories on digg. That says something (negative, that is).
- caseysousa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is an extremely misleading title for this story. The iPhone Nano has NOT been "announced". This whole story is only speculation from one guy. Buried as inaccurate.

- canewediggit, on 10/11/2007, -9/+178oh *****. there goes the neighborhood, again.
- Phyltre, on 10/11/2007, -2/+36If only the neighborhood had gone to actual sources, rather than some analyst. There has been no announcement--this is possible but unconfirmed--please go back to your regularly scheduled digging. Unless of course, your regularly scheduled digging includes more baseless speculation...in which case, please have your internet shut off.
- cjgfish, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2This is why I love Digg - random crap can be suddenly the hottest news on the internet, especially when it is completely false.
- SlantyEyes, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I think the idea is cool, its just going to be annoying from now on seeing all this hype again on digg. I have Nothing against the iPhone, but the media craze is making it more like the Hilton story no one wanted to see 1,000,000 times over.

- Archon810, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14as long as AAPL jumps $5 tomorrow...
- dankoleary, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1No, I need it back down to $120... seriously
- andyduncan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8And then on Wednesday Engadget will post a "Confirmed story" stating that the iPhone nano has been delayed, along with the next version of Windows and the next Harry Potter movie, and Apple's shares will fall $10.
- dmax801, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Jumps $5, then I sell. That'll pay off the iPhone (already have) and the year's service increase for data that it cost me. Free phone!
- Archon810, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2and so it has, up almost $4.
- dankoleary, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1No, I need it back down to $120... seriously

- TubbyCat, on 10/11/2007, -17/+3That was the other thing I was going to say, Cane. XD
- fatboynic, on 10/11/2007, -10/+73I would love a phone the size of the nano... Oh, and a smaller price tag would help to motivate me into the iphone craze!
- FluffyArmada, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2How the hell do intend to use a phone that is the size of a nano?! XD
[say something]
[move to ear]
[say something]
[move to ear]- Audacitor, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3It'll probably use the headset that's already included in the box with full-size iPhones.
- jkoke, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Are you thinking of the Shuffle? 'cause there are lots of phones the size of the Nano.
- zdiggler, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Sprinted had a phone smaller then NANO before. They also had a phone that big as a fountain pen too.
- smackhero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2this would be a good move. i hope they decide to bring back the 1st gen nano design though. i don't really like the matte look.
- dcpar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3i bought a phone in thailand that was nano-sized, with video, mp3, and a hot thai chick on the startup screen. sexiest phone ever:
http://www.siamphone.com/catalog/gnet/g999_nano.htm
sadly, it was only dual-band, and the wrong 2 bands.- sv650touring, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2by volume, your phone was about 50% bigger than a nano, but still a hair smaller than the little Samsungs I've been lusting for. The Samsungs are tri-band.
- FluffyArmada, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2How the hell do intend to use a phone that is the size of a nano?! XD
- IJS209, on 10/11/2007, -13/+7the Iphone has taken over the world.
- aaronm67, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2No. The iPhone has taken over the press. Big difference.
- inukki, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1But they will replace us all!!!! ?
- bumfish, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2i for one welcome our iPhone overlord masters
- cielo23, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'm personally waiting until October for the OpenMoko
- motheroats, on 10/29/2007, -36/+433hopefully it wont be like the iphone shuffle. Press the button and it will randomly call one of your contacts. Press twice to call mommy.
- Goosemaster, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9and with 8MB of storage the lack of an OS will make dialing harder..
- Audacitor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I can't wait for the iPhone flea...
- achoi, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4I was kinda hoping for a new video ipod model, one with the fancy iphone fullscreen interface.
With wifi.
- Goosemaster, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9and with 8MB of storage the lack of an OS will make dialing harder..
- obey43, on 10/11/2007, -16/+933its not ***** announced.
did apple announce it? no. is this speculation? yes.- Chewie67, on 10/11/2007, -3/+111Exactly.
Marked as inaccurate.- stephenwq, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Anyone remember digg when it said it was reported as possibly innaccurate? It obviously takes more than 400 diggs to do that now, because this story is still up.
- Acefighter, on 10/11/2007, -7/+36Uh, Oh. He's a question talker, ^^^
- HalfBrian, on 10/11/2007, -6/+9Awesome Scrubs reference
- oneshare325, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1or seinfeld
- darkyoshi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2It doesn't need a reference. It's funny how it is, so STFU and don't ruin any more in-jokes that aren't actually in-jokes.
- HalfBrian, on 10/11/2007, -6/+9Awesome Scrubs reference
- HalfBrian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13Also, just because Apple filed does not mean that they will necessarily go into production, especially in the fourth quarter.
And it doesn't seem like Apple to release two versions of the same thing within the same year (almost no hardware manufacturer does this, except for the Razrs) - cgomez, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13Article buried as inaccurate.
I don't want to see another front-page article saying something was announced unless it leads to the manufacturer's site. - zionKing, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4The story sounds *****... my guess is that msnbc is attempting to persuade would-be consumers to hold off on buying a real iPhone with this speculation that a more affordable version is just around the corner. Maybe I'm reading too much into it though.
- gfair, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1No you wouldn't be too far off. MSNBC has already been cited for plastering a section of its homepage with nothing but articles negative about the iPhone, and it's highly likely that this is no different. It comes from Reuters, based on an Analyst report, and the Analyst's source is a patent filing. Not only should this Digg article be buried as inaccurate, but someone should start taking a look at MSNBC's treatment of Microsoft competitors in the news to see if the M in Microsoft stands for Murdoch.
- marvinmatthew, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6"Apple filed a patent application document that refers to a multifunctional handheld device with a circular touch pad control, similar to the Nano’s scroll wheel."
It seems as if they're drawing a pretty big conclusion from poor evidence.- Merlyn383, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Now where would MSnbc's get the idea to have their mouth write checks that reality can't cash... WINFS, unified notification UI, "fewer reboots", no security issues...
- tfedullo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2one word... FCC... they need to submit it to them about 6 months in advance (hence the iphone announcement in January and it coming out in June) so it is quite unlikely that apple will make the speculated 4th quarter release... making me severely doubt the idea that an iphone nano will come out any time soon
- SIGINT, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2However we all try to bury this as inaccurate, the fanboys will still digg this lameness.
- brokentone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Speculation by a finance guy, he's not even tech. Lame.
- redwire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Apple did not respond to requests for comment.
Nuff said- dcamp7gh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yea but Apple never responds to speculation. Thats how they build hype. Its not like that is a new trick for them or anything...
- seanthebond, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Yes, but its on MSNBC, so its a fairly reliable source.
- kunfu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1INACCURATE
- Chewie67, on 10/11/2007, -3/+111Exactly.
- NewChar, on 10/11/2007, -3/+114The exclamation points are supposed to go at the end of the sentence. Also, this is speculation, certainly not an announcement by Apple.
- Sundownvf111, on 10/11/2007, -23/+11apple fanboys must be creaming their pants ...
- dgblackout, on 10/11/2007, -8/+297buried as inaccurate

- adrianmonk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1To get the answer to this, you have to go all the way back to an announcement Apple made 14 years ago, in 1993:
http://www.netfunny.com/rhf/jokes/93q1/macnokbd.html - sail191912, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Maybe like the old Nokia Lipstick phone (7380)? You needed to scroll per letter & click to select the letter.
- BiakAtMacDotCom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Like on iPod 5.5G while text searching in music : with a virtual kb and the clickwheel
- abeg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6i think i would be something like this
- beauc, on 10/11/2007, -5/+24just not true.
- craig4, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3but is also not false, only time will tell I guess.
- thepat, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Was it announced? No. I think that that makes it false.
- cgomez, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Wow, I suppose anything is true unless someone proves it isn't.
Nice argument. - EdwardsNH, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1There's an invisible unicorn standing on your right.

- garryw, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24Announced by somebody who heard it from somebody who cannot be named.

please, no... - pretendex, on 10/11/2007, -3/+26People please bury this story as it is inaccurate. There is no confirmation, this is the same speculation that was floating around earlier today.
- beatleman, on 10/11/2007, -3/+28This is NOT an accouncement!! This is from a JP Morgan analyst saying he "thinks" it's coming. Please bury this before it gets an embarrassingly high number of Diggs.
- beatleman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Too late. Can't say we didn't try... How many burys does it take for Digg to bury a story???
- conman16x, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4It does seem like a lot of inaccurate stuff is skating by lately without ever getting marked as such.

- thatsmyaibo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Sorry, didn't notice a similar comment was made prior. You can all have the benefit of digging me down twice in a row.
- FluffyArmada, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Yeah, but "You never know who you'll call next.." was priceless.
- insovietrussia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2That's pretty much my current phone whilst I'm drunk

- Mikey9oo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20Not an "announcement" LAME
- lionpirate, on 10/11/2007, -2/+26Buried as RE-*****-DICULOUS
- djtripp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Not going to happen. Apple has a history of releasing patents of ideas and designs that never made it to production. Pretty much, if an Apple patent is released before a product is announced, it will never be released (or very highly improbable). Since the iPhone was announced, it seems they are releasing all patents within the program, used or not.
- dirtyhipster, on 10/11/2007, -13/+16I HATE THE IPHONE
- bazilbazil, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Just when you thought you stopped hearing news about the iPhone....
- Quilik, on 10/11/2007, -3/+0wonder what it will taste like...
- kickasspodcast, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8So the iPhone is soooo cool that they need to improve it by making it smaller and give it buttons? I'm confused.
- rglover, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Had to do a double take there, I figured it was a joke. This is going get very interesting, can't wait. Do they mean 4th quarter of 2007?
- mileswj, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Why the hell would you want a smaller iphone? Its fine.

- bsharitt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Except there's not smaller iPhone. The headline is a blatant lie.

- iamtehmetal, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3buried as lame.
just buy normal phones. the iphone and this iphone nano are going to both be just liek razr.
the first months people spend so much money on it, then within a year, you can get it with the purchase of a pizza. - letdowntourist, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16"Apple did not respond to requests for comment."
buried. - ROFLance, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8"Apple filed a patent application document that refers to a multifunctional handheld device with a circular touch pad control, similar to the Nano’s scroll wheel."
I doubt Apple is going to put a scroll wheel on the 2nd gen iPhone. It's probably just the 6th gen Video iPod, or 3rd gen iPod Nano. - ridah, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17I read it on the internet so it must be true!
