- thirty3down, on 10/06/2008, -39/+0Nice Article. I dugg it. Make sure to check out my Taliban Article.... Good Read http://digg.com/world_news/Taliban_Split_With_Al_Q ...
- MrPat8oHed, on 10/09/2008, -0/+14Ok... will do...although I'm not sure I see the correlation between Taliban and baseball....
Oh I got it! Taliwhackers!
I knew there was some reason you added that very relevant article link to this thread! - whoaohh, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2You must be new 'round these parts.
- paulvq, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1You're doing it wrong.
- MrPat8oHed, on 10/09/2008, -0/+14Ok... will do...although I'm not sure I see the correlation between Taliban and baseball....
- sgtbutterscotch, on 10/06/2008, -6/+13nice list. i really hope that the series goes longer than 5 games.
- ethanator1088, on 10/06/2008, -6/+14I am hoping for an awesome World Series. I'll keep on watching!
- ncapone, on 10/06/2008, -9/+14"Rays steal World Series from Phillies in Four Games."
If this happens I will die a happy man. - PVanderVossen, on 10/06/2008, -6/+19w00t go Rays. This is my favorite time of year to stay up past midnight while my wife asks me, "when will this be over" and being able to honestly tell her, "I have no idea"
- BaoUnit, on 10/07/2008, -0/+16Haha, pun intended or am I just a bad person for reading it wrong?
- lovemorgul, on 10/06/2008, -11/+7baseballol
- Hetman, on 10/06/2008, -18/+12Fuk LA I hope they lose every single game for the next 15 years. Not that it really mattered the cubs didnt reallly play well at all. So I blame them not LA. Since the Cubs our out of it though. Go Boston, the east coast cubs.
- NegativeDigg, on 10/07/2008, -1/+7Hahaha, 15 years. Funny how the cubs haven't won a world series in a 100 years!! I would just lose all hope by now...
- Mardala, on 10/07/2008, -4/+5Bah ... LA is going to win. Dodgers will be #1 this year.
- chicagojack, on 10/06/2008, -4/+18F that, i am still crying about the cubs
- Wootstapler, on 10/07/2008, -1/+3I shaved my goatee after seeing that sweep. You can't tell me that there is absolutely NO curse in play with the Cubs, going from the best team in the NL to...that.
- brycelb, on 10/07/2008, -4/+3Not a complete surprise though. The Dodgers were the best team in the majors for the last month.
- fumar, on 10/07/2008, -1/+7There is no curse, the Cubs are full of a bunch of players that are bad in the postseason.
Soriano for his career has a sub .200 avg in the playoffs (he can't hit good pitching)
Ramirez is a sub .220 hitter for his career in the postseason.
Fukudome had 1 hit in 10 at bats
Everyone in the bullpen past Marmol and Wood had a horrendous September, which carried over to October
Reed Johnson never got a chance to take an at bat.
The entire Cubs infield made errors in game 2, showing that they couldn't handle the pressure of a do or die game.
THERE IS NO CURSE. ANYONE WHO BELIEVES THERE IS IS BASEBALL RETARDED!
- Wootstapler, on 10/07/2008, -1/+3I shaved my goatee after seeing that sweep. You can't tell me that there is absolutely NO curse in play with the Cubs, going from the best team in the NL to...that.
- santiago1, on 10/07/2008, -8/+3 Oakland's out of it (sadly), so I'm out of it. Come on next season!!
- Saurischia, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Hopefully some of those no longer rookies will learn some skillz!
- rdvon, on 10/07/2008, -21/+17I HATE BASEBALL!
- zwendkos, on 10/07/2008, -6/+5If you hate baseball, then filter it. Otherwise, keep your comments to yourself. It's simple really.
- digglet08, on 10/07/2008, -9/+7I do love "potential story lines "!
- john2kx, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3don't bury, he's right for calling that out.
- kookbutt, on 10/07/2008, -28/+20Baseball is boring. Watching a bunch of steroided up over paid crybabies is not my idea of fun.
- jasongbc, on 10/07/2008, -1/+0It is. They need to use the bats on each other. Baseball lacks enough violence to make me care.
It would be way better if steroids were legal in baseball. (And all sports really)
Do they scan for nootropics? I could see how they'd be enhancers too.. faster ball trajectory calculation and reaction time.
- jasongbc, on 10/07/2008, -1/+0It is. They need to use the bats on each other. Baseball lacks enough violence to make me care.
- zwendkos, on 10/07/2008, -1/+11I am a Rays fan currently living in NYC and I must say that it seems like it'd be really hard NOT to like (or at least have some respect for) the Rays. I don't think anyone's rooting against them. Even Yankees fans. What these guys are doing is special.
- wrzhydr, on 10/07/2008, -2/+2$20 says ALL RedSox fans (besides me) are rooting against the Rays.
- BigPapi, on 10/07/2008, -1/+2What?? I've been a Sox fan my whole life, but watching the Rays turn things around this year was great. Obviously I won't root for them if the Sox make the ALCS, but if the Sox get eliminated I'm rooting for the Rays to go all the way.
- MikeMitchell, on 10/07/2008, -7/+12Oh I have one!
#9 When you just cant ***** fall asleep. - dnasty27, on 10/07/2008, -12/+4No cubs, not watching.
- dannythepan, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5haven't seen many historic postseasons then huh
- fumar, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3There's still some great baseball that's going to be played this year. Your missing out. I just wish the Cubs didn't choke in the NLDS AGAIN!
- DinosWillDie13, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4you really didnt see it coming?
- painting, on 10/07/2008, -14/+11no thanks, I'll rather be doing something that's not entirely boring.
- chickenloco, on 10/07/2008, -7/+7Go Angels
- DarkLance, on 10/07/2008, -11/+4Watch baseball in October with no Yanks? What's the point? Maybe just to see the Dodgers loose... ha ha Torre and Manny are gonna blow it
- idiotkings, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4Better get used to it. Something tells me, finishing 8 games down, NYC isn't going to have baseball in October for years to come. The dynasty is over.
- brycelb, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2It's gotta hurt.
- KittySpark1es, on 10/07/2008, -3/+2mirror anyone?
- hawksfan03, on 10/07/2008, -3/+2site is down. mirror anyone?
- hawksfan03, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Looks like it is back up now
- BoSuu, on 10/07/2008, -7/+6Why watch pro baseballl when you can watch pro Starcraft?
- KDX200rider, on 10/07/2008, -8/+14Too slow and boring.....Sorry.
- gfxlonghorn, on 10/07/2008, -4/+5Are we talking about the website or Baseball? Either way, ***** thing sucks.
- KittySpark1es, on 10/07/2008, -1/+11Ahhh....Dodgers vs. Angels. Do I see "The Great Cholo Riots of 2008" in our near future?
- brycelb, on 10/07/2008, -1/+2You may be on to something here. I was at the world baseball classic (US v. Mexico) at Angel stadium a couple years ago and I felt like the game was held in Tijuana. It felt like a soccer match was going to break out at any moment. As a Dodger fan, I know Chaves Ravine will be representing :(
- MforMike, on 10/07/2008, -5/+6go rays!
- tbone8978, on 10/07/2008, -0/+7remember guys, as the worlds biggest douche dane cook once said there's only one AWKTOBER!!!!!
- dannythepan, on 10/07/2008, -1/+3 i'm gonna predict the dodgers will win the world series. and now that the white sox are out, i'm rooting for the rays on the american league side... the world series should be fun whoever makes it
- FallingDonkey, on 10/07/2008, -6/+0Baseball is a great for drinking games.
- dasbeef, on 10/07/2008, -3/+7LET'S GO BLUE JAYS
- wrzhydr, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4maybe next year, champ.
- PEMDAS, on 10/07/2008, -5/+4"8 Reasons Why You've GOT to Keep Watching Baseball" What if I don't watch baseball, are you saying I shouldn't start? Or is this a desperate attempt to keep current baseball fans from jumping ship? Have some faith in your sport.
- serpentor, on 10/07/2008, -1/+3Good point.
- crackintosh, on 10/07/2008, -1/+2or just trying to get non baseball fans to post stupid comments on a subject they don't care about?
- hawksfan03, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5Site was down the first time I looked so just in case it goes down again
A Braves blog expanding its borders for the postseason, coming to you from off the couch in Atlanta… it’s JB.
So maybe your favorite team is out of it already. Maybe your team finished just better than one of the worst teams in baseball (like my Braves). And there won’t be a Cubs/Red Sox World Series or a Windy City Series but if you can step down from that ledge, my friend and if you’re not too upset, there’s still some potentially exciting moments we can still hope for if you love the game.
1) Manny’s Return
A homecoming of sorts could be in line if we’re lucky enough to witness a Dodgers/BoSox World Series matchup. Yes the quaff has been tamed a little since his Red Sox days but bringing Manny back to Fenway would be reason enough for many Manny fans and haters to tune in.
2) Dodgers vs Angels World Series
Ok so we’ve had Dodgers vs Giants, Dodgers vs A’s, and Angels vs Giants. But you have to admit watching the Los Angeles Dodgers vs the California…Anaheim…whatever…let’s just call them The Mighty Angels of Anaheim, play in the first “Freeway Series” would be a great west coast rivalry matchup. And you got to think, Dodger fans are probably especially hateful to the identity crisis stricken Halo’s since trying to steal their first name…again.
3) Griffey Gets a Ring
600 home runs, a hall of fame career, (though greatly injury ridden) and a ring on his finger. It would be a great item for the Kid to check off of his “to-do” list. The unsung hero finally playing for a competitor gets his one shot and the “Anti-Bonds” snags something that would make A-Rod tinkle in his pants.
4)Torre In Fenway
In all those years with the Yankees, Torre made himself quite comfortable in Boston’s visiting dugout. Wouldn’t it be great to see Joe with his West Coast Blues on pay another October visit to Fenway?
5) Phillies First Title in 28 Years
So maybe it’s not the story of the year and the Phillies are not the Cubs, but Philadelphia Phanatics have been craving another title since 1980 and they may get their chance. They’ve got to win two series to make it happen and the Dodgers have gotten hot at just the right time.
6)Watching the White Sox Lose
I put this one in here for all the Cubs fans. It may not make up for another disheartening October for the Friendlies but any die-in-the-wool Cubs fan will tell you… it’s something.
7) Rays Complete their Cinderella Run
No I don’t REALLY want to see October baseball played in a cowbell crazed “Trop” simply because I hate indoor baseball. But that doesn’t mean I don’t like this team. Young, athletic, and paid not nearly as much as the other teams in the division they took, it’s a good story. Watching them win their first title may make some baseball purists mad *groan- three World Series Championships in 11 years… in Florida!!* and a whole lot of St. Petersburg(er)s feel good about life. But let’s not forget, one of the best World Series ever was played in a worst to first dome in 1991.
8) Another Classic World Series Matchup
Despite which two teams we end up with, let’s hope for another classic World Series Who knew 1991 Twins vs Braves or 2001 D-Backs vs Yankees or 1960 Pirates vs Yankees could be so good? A good ol’ 7 game knock down, drag out, fight to the finish full of drama, sub plots, and good stories (bloody sock, gimpy leg etc.) would make for a pretty entertaining finish to this 2008. - idiotkings, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2#4: Torre in Fenway. As a Sox fan, that would be awesome. After spending the season ahead of the Yankees, that's seeing them get kicked while they're down (for their own bad decisions), and I love it.
- thefbimonkey, on 10/07/2008, -1/+2I quite enjoy the Red Sox, they are my favorite baseball club. :-)
- fumar, on 10/07/2008, -1/+3The White Sox losing is NOT a consolation prize for Cubs fans. I don't think the rest of baseball realizes that most Cub fans don't hate the White Sox. However a majority of White Sox fans DO hate the Cubs.
- lolwutpear, on 10/07/2008, -1/+1Not true: I like the Cubs, and most of the Cubs fans I know loathe the Sox.
- SDM187, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Any true Sox fan hates the Cubs. Period the end.
- dmanmax99, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Anymore ***** you'd like to say fumar?
- lolwutpear, on 10/07/2008, -1/+1Not true: I like the Cubs, and most of the Cubs fans I know loathe the Sox.
- slyte, on 10/07/2008, -5/+1THIS HAS GOT ME REALLY ***** PUMPED UP ABOUT BASEBALL LIKE OMFG
- SyxxtySyxx, on 10/07/2008, -3/+3My ChiSox are out, so now I am too.
At least they lasted longer than those Northsiders...
Awww shucks, I feel for fans of both Chicago teams.- SDM187, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2what the *****.... you're either a sox fan or you're not
- katedog, on 10/07/2008, -4/+3Ugh. I just don't get baseball, and see why it's America's pastime - with the emphasis on PAST.
- Synchro, on 10/07/2008, -1/+1Its because the game takes so damn long.
- ptFoe, on 10/07/2008, -5/+6Most boring sport
- schavira, on 10/07/2008, -2/+4***** YEAH WE THROW BALLS TESTOSTERONE
- IvenomI, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Dugg for the CALIFORNIA Angels.
- GardenRetreat, on 10/07/2008, -1/+3i have been a rabid football fan for the last 20 years and to be honest I am sick to death of professional football. So this year I watched baseball from the beginning of the season. I will need no encouragement to finish watching baseball this month.. Of course it doesn't hurt that i am a Phillies fan..
from a recently converted baseball fan and professional football deserter- mrTr0ut, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1I'm with you. Big football fan, but I decided to start watching the Rays this year. I've been going to games since April and it just so happens they turn out to be an awesome team. I still follow football, but I've never been excited about a team like I have the Rays.
- slonrgjon, on 10/07/2008, -3/+7I'd watch it if it wasn't so boring
- whiteguysamurai, on 10/07/2008, -4/+2It's football season, who cares anymore?
Knock that ***** off, Seahawks! - Cherubim, on 10/07/2008, -3/+4Baseball is boring. Wow, whack a large ball with a small stick and run ? Gee, real entertainment their.
- SDM187, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1dugg for "their"
- Saurischia, on 10/07/2008, -3/+3I do enjoy an occasional baseball game, but honestly baseball is one of the worst sports and the amount of original action it offers to the viewer approaches zero. Even ESPN gets so bored with it they have to air football shows in the middle of summer.
- bbqsalad, on 10/07/2008, -2/+2All the money put into people hitting balls with sticks. Seems like a waste to me.
- frankenfag, on 10/07/2008, -1/+3bury me
- Dujenwook, on 10/07/2008, -1/+1Keep watching? I'd have to start watching first.
I haven't watched baseball since I was a kid. I'm not sure how I had the patience for it then, cause I sure as hell don't now. I'm thinking that being big into baseball card collecting had something to do with it.
I'll admit though that I do enjoy watching baseball highlight reels. - lolwutpear, on 10/07/2008, -2/+1No White Sox, no Cubs, no reason to keep watching.
At least the Bears have a winning record now! - rdvon, on 10/07/2008, -3/+3It's funny how this was at 2 diggs last I looked.
Did I mention I hated baseball? -
