http://bayimg.com/malCaaaBA - pixelate, on 09/23/2008, -7/+8Replace 'Star Trek' with 'Battlestar Galactica', and 'football' with 'wrestling' and I'm on board.
Star Trek is cheesy and football's a cerebral enough game if you actually pay attention.- Paulorific, on 09/23/2008, -2/+2Yep. BSG is good but Star Trek really does suck.
- SasquatchBill, on 09/23/2008, -1/+3I've never watched BSG, but my housemates watched Star Trek: TNG a LOT in college (like, 2-3 episodes a day, sometimes repeated) and at first I was into it, and then realized how BAD that show was. All I remember was how BAD the acting was, and once in a while the plot was cool enough, but most of the time everything else was just too stupid.
Is BSG better? - pandaro, on 09/23/2008, -2/+1BSG is quite good, but I think you need to start at the beginning.
As far as TV shows go, it's worth it. - Harelin, on 09/23/2008, -0/+3Yes, SasquatchBill. They do not compare.
- rlb5118, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2sounds like the translated rap battle that made the rounds a week ago.
- IllBeBack, on 09/23/2008, -2/+1Use of the word "cute" is a sure sign of gheyness dude.

- Elliottx, on 09/23/2008, -17/+85I'm willing to bet that in a few months when AbtruseGoose's comics end up on the front page every week, people will start the hate.
I call it "The XKCD Effect"
On a related not, I always wondered how people who watch some gay ***** like wrestling, football or male oil wrestling naked can accuse me of being gay for watching anime. -_-- DiscoLando, on 09/23/2008, -4/+10Based on the reliability of their web server, I'll bet that too few people will actually get a chance to see the comics.
- ImSoFnAwesom, on 09/23/2008, -23/+18Cause anime sucks, duh.
- CCoe, on 09/23/2008, -2/+4RASENGAN!!

- nmnnotmyname, on 09/23/2008, -3/+16I thought anime was gay, until i got addicted to the "gayest" thing ever, Puyo Puyo. Seriously, do NOT play that game.
- KingGorilla, on 09/23/2008, -3/+38It's because males in anime series tend to have very feminine features. Everyone is gay now
- cyb3rdemon, on 09/23/2008, -1/+4Don't play Guilty Gear ...

- AntzNZ, on 09/23/2008, -11/+4XKCD isn't funny most of the time, that's why people hate it.
- jinny09, on 09/23/2008, -5/+0oh *****, what if you watch anime and wrestling???
"It's because males in anime series tend to have very feminine features."
watch something that isnt drawn in a shoujo or josei (yes i know its a demographic) style nor from clamp or jojo. - jeremyduffy, on 09/23/2008, -1/+10Anyone who can think you're gay for watching anime has obviously never seen much anime. Many of the story lines involve a group of girls of all different ages that end up living with some loser and all want to sleep with him for some reason. Others have mostly nude girls piloting spaceships or giant robots, but all of them have a "hot springs" or "beach" episode so you can see your heroine (not heroin) in as little clothing as possible.
What does it mean when someone calls that kind of show gay I wonder.- 15thPD, on 09/23/2008, -4/+9They are cartoons, not women. How could anybody become attracted to a cartoon character?
- jeremyduffy, on 09/23/2008, -0/+7@15thpD:
You're kidding right? I don't think any of these are attractive, but a whole lot of other people did/do
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betty_Boop
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Who_Framed_Ro ...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cool_World
That's not even counting the vast amount of animated porn. Are you seriously saying you don't think people can be attracted to cartoon characters or just that you don't understand it? Because if you think the former perhaps you should do some reading on how sex sells in video games. - jboyd88, on 09/23/2008, -2/+1Yeah man, they arent real.....
- StrangeFamous, on 09/23/2008, -1/+1615thPD:
People can be attracted to cartoon characters in the same way that they can be attracted to a piece of erotic artwork. People get attracted by all sorts of abstract concepts.
It's not that people are attracted to the actual pencil lines and coloring, it's that they're attracted to the depictions on the page... the concepts that are introduced to them by the artist.
Sexuality is at the core of our species, it's what keeps us going. It's only natural for an artist to want to pay tribute to that sexuality through drawings or paintings or sculpture (It's happened over and over again throughout history, I shouldn't have to remind you).
Having an appreciation for that artwork doesn't mean that a person isn't normal, if anything it means that they're more in touch with their own sexuality and haven't restricted themselves when it comes to what they allow themselves to be attracted to.
Repressing your own sexuality leads to nothing but stress and anxiety, and even mental illness, since you're constantly fighting against your own impulses, which is unnatural and unhealthy.
People should be free to explore their own sexuality without fear of judgement or ridicule, it would make our world a much happier place.
TL;DR: Because naughty bits are fun to look at, regardless of what form they come in. - Elliottx, on 09/24/2008, -0/+1You just described Love Hina and Fullmetal Panic. =/
Or just Fullmetal Panic, srsly. Big robots, girls wanna do the main guy, there's a beach episode in Fumoffu.
(I hate mecha animes, FMP though was funny as hell)
- Linkin4, on 09/23/2008, -3/+5I don't like these now... Too wordy, with weak punchlines.
- chillypacman, on 09/23/2008, -0/+8You're not gay for watching anime, just geeky smelling. Big difference.
- KableKiB, on 09/23/2008, -2/+1note
- greeniemeani, on 09/23/2008, -1/+4People hate XKCD because lately it really sucks. If by XKCD effect you mean it will be a somewhat clever and witty comic that turns into complete *****, then I guess we will see.

- TomKarpik, on 09/23/2008, -3/+2Did you actually read it before determining that it's not interesting enough to read? If so, carry on ...
- BlakeyB, on 09/23/2008, -14/+2Words change over time. Gay doesn't mean what it did 10 years ago, just like the meaning was different 10 years before that. Star Trek is totally gay.
- comptonstomp, on 09/23/2008, -22/+7watching star trek IS gay, sorry but geeks dont get pussy for a reason
- Takayama, on 09/23/2008, -5/+18I watch Star Trek up and down. I actually do know the plot line of most episodes. On a sidenote, I also get mad pussy, which is hot and intelligent.
Maybe your lack of female companionship results from you being a dick?- BlakeyB, on 09/23/2008, -9/+5No one who actually has good looking notches on their belt says anything like, 'I also get mad pussy' its just not how we talk brother. Good try though, whats it like to have the internet as a giant fantasy land?
- worldchanger, on 09/23/2008, -2/+8dude, your cat doesn't count. and that's just sick.
- dstz, on 09/23/2008, -0/+3"I also get mad pussy, which is hot and intelligent"
Yeah sure. Ahaha.
- FTWmovin2canada, on 09/23/2008, -1/+6Yeah, let me break it down for you.
Geek get geeky jobs that pay excellent money. Women want men with money.
It can be hard to understand when you're not familiar with the concept.- BlakeyB, on 09/23/2008, -1/+2You don't have to be a geek to get a good job. I work full time to pay for my full time schooling and I would wage my GPA against yours any day of the week. Right now I'm just enjoying the beauty of sitting behind my computer screen knowing that you'll never know whether or not I am telling the truth.
- FTWmovin2canada, on 09/23/2008, -1/+4I didn't say you have to be a geek to get a good job. And my reply was to comptonstomp. And I don't even remember my GPA and didn't go to college. So... whatever.
- BlakeyB, on 09/23/2008, -3/+0Way to make me look like an ass then :)
- FTWmovin2canada, on 09/23/2008, -1/+1LOL, no worries.
- ZombieSociety, on 09/23/2008, -0/+6What the ***** is "pussy?"
- coolcash2005, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1The reason geeks don't get pussy is because they are usually poor at social interaction, especially with females. This is stemmed from being smarter than the average bozo like you, and as a result they are imbalanced.
- ddawggin, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1Ummmm I know plenty of intelligent people that are social. I'd find something else to blame it on. Probably your parents fault.
- rolfeman02, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1My girlfriend loves Star Trek (TNG, not TOS though)
- Takayama, on 09/23/2008, -5/+18I watch Star Trek up and down. I actually do know the plot line of most episodes. On a sidenote, I also get mad pussy, which is hot and intelligent.

- BlackStrain, on 09/23/2008, -3/+1And more and more poorly drawn. We're down to basic geometric shapes here.
- onederboy, on 09/23/2008, -0/+3I enjoy the simplicity, makes you focus more on the comic itself.

- crownedgriffin, on 09/23/2008, -6/+4No. I was talking about American football.
- Tssst, on 09/23/2008, -2/+20In soccer, buff men in tights don't engage in erotic dogpiles.

- Tichondrius74, on 09/23/2008, -6/+4Yea soccer is boring. American Football on the other hand is awesome.
- jun2san, on 09/23/2008, -5/+1YOU'RE boring as hell.
- Zihuatanejo, on 09/23/2008, -4/+1I pity you.
- liquisoft, on 09/23/2008, -16/+7Using the term "gay" to describe something undesirable is like using the term "black" to do the same thing. It's just ignorant, and those who use the term in such a way are an embarrassment to the human race.
That said, if we're talking about homosexuality let me just point to "professional wrestling." Really buff dudes wearing nothing but a leather speedo and leather boots grope eachother and get sweaty while doing so. They do their best to get their opponents to lay down on a mat, and oftentimes sit on their heads. Then they add in a soap opera-style plotline and somehow this is manly?- KableKiB, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2love how u got dugg down lol
The super bowwwwll is gaaaaaaaaaay!! the raiders, are gay!.... - KableKiB, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2Oh and I buried ur comment for being a pussy about the gay thing and then brought ti back to what it was before because I agree with the thing about professional wrestling. so gay
- KableKiB, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2love how u got dugg down lol
- Stevethegreat, on 09/23/2008, -3/+4If by logical extrapolations of technology and cultural trends, means transplanting the epoch we live in an era with more gadgets then yes star trek -or any other sci-fi- is a good extrapolation. If you mean -however- what is likely to be our future then sci-fis are -to the least- laughable, it's like a renaissance man trying to predict our life. Most probably we would get that science and tech would play an important role in the (his) future but there's no way in hell that he could predict that most people in the western world would pass most of their hours in front of a glass screen (name it TV or PC), or there will such an invention as the Internet.
Star Trek is intriguing to see how writers of any given era thought about the future, the REAL future would be far different and the sci-fis visions would be as realistic as Cinderella is to a medieval community... - yellowfish04, on 09/23/2008, -26/+180............................................________

AND THEY ARE NOT THE CLOSET HOMOSEXUALS?
Don't get me wrong... I'm all for watching sports, but the geek is more likely to be straight. - MrTsLoveChild, on 09/23/2008, -4/+5nerd emo
