The 5 Most Ridiculously Unfair Kids Game Shows

cracked.com — Who doesn't like to watch children fail at things? It builds character in them and it makes us laugh, which is why it inspired a whole era of kid-based game shows in the late 80s and early 90s.

        That show is easily in the top 3 of favorite shows when I was a kid.

      1) Stay out of the forest if at all possible, it ALWAYS seemed to have an evil haunted tree.

      2) 3 Piece monkey statues are apparently harder than they look..

I can only imagine what the felt like when they are rushing through the temple and some tribal-wearing man jumps out of no where and grapples them. I'm sure many have crapped their pants! And the prize was always something like a lifetime supply of whistle pops...YEAH!!!

Which of course absolutely no one ever won, because the maze was damned near impossible, except for the few times they decided to keep the easiest path "unlocked" and not make you go through every single room, and then have your partner come in as you are buried in the furthest side from the entrance with only a half a pendant of life left. Insanely hard.

      Apparently they took the kids through the temple beforehand and gave them a run through of all the rooms, even telling them where the temple guards are and which route to take. You would even practice each of the rooms beforehand. Anyone who wasn't able to beat the temple was pretty much an idiot.

It was like...if they didn't want to give away a prize, just stick one tree dude per contestant and you've got a guaranteed loser. I got so angry when I was little watching that. Such a ***** scam. There was nothing you could do about it. The first person NEVER made it all the way through because eventually, you'd run into a guard. No skill involved.

        Imagine the positive impact bringing GUTS or Wild and Crazy Kids back? Encourage kids to go out and play for once instead of staying inside all day.

      "Wild and Crazy Kids was a game show on Nickelodeon, that aired from 1990-1992, in which large teams, usually consisting entirely of children, participated in head-to-head physical challenges. It was hosted by Omar Gooding, Donnie Jeffcoat, and Annette Chavez. Chavez was replaced after a year by Jessica Gaynes. The show also aired on YTV in Canada. In 2002, a remake hosted by Mati Moralejo was aired for seven episodes."

      I always remembered that show because they had some challegne where there would be hard boiled eggs and uncooked ones... learned hwo to tell them apart cause of that show at a very young age hahah

        The whole point of the bit on CS is that the girl obviously knew the countries, but didn't have enough time to finish the map between the ridiculous 45 second limit and the *****, wobbly props.

    They pre-screen the good players from the bad players and record the bad sessions. Mainly because it's a faster work day for them.

No one ever did the little burn-out move or any of the other moves that would come easy to a true gamer. If you can't wrangle a few rings, you have no business being on a video game based game show.

      When they asked the kids what their hobbies were, it was never gaming. It was shopping, horseback riding, baseball, reading.

      ONCE they had this long-haired guy who said his favorite hobby was video games. He tore it up on Ghost Rider, but failed at the final challenge.

I can't remember the name for the life of me, but it had a sci-fi theme with lots of silver and rock. One of the challenges involved one kid feeling his way through a cavern blind with his partner giving him directions to open the door.

That show was actually on the Family Channel and not PBS, but it does fit the original description. I believe that it came on before Carmen Sandiego. That show was badass btw.

Now it's just like someone does a fat line of coke, thinks up something and throws it on tv without even thinking about what the hell it's purpose is. I'm not saying it wasn't like that back then, but it just seems like there was a sense of quality to those shows when we were kids.

      BTW, Ghostwriter was an awesome show.

Kirk Fogg (The Host) said it was a huge challenge, even without those guys in Temple suit chasing after you. He even said one child vomited during a game. On the 1st episode he said it took several hours to do the final part.

    The worst part is, that's one of the easier ones they did, before instead of just saying "Carmen went to brazil!" he would actually give a hint before just telling them the ***** answer "This country's largest export is Coffee and Soybeans! CARMEN WENT TO BRAZIL!"

    The other ***** thing is look how long it takes for the light to go on the pole, kid has to wait like 2 seconds before seeing if she got it right.

    I saw 1 kid win ever.

      Ran for years and only a handful of people managed to win, it was a pretty epic experience as a kid watching a team play through the dungeon (which may have taken 2-3 episodes to do as it was quite long) only to get unfairly butchered at the last hurdle.
