Things They Don't Tell You About Life (But Should).. [COMIC]
viruscomix.com — Here's a cynical but somewhat honest guide to life in general.

- digg it
- Ahzaz, on 07/06/2008, -8/+72True
- JoCliMe, on 07/06/2008, -1/+10Yes, but whoever said money is the root of all evil?
I believe it is the *love* of money is the root of all evil, I'm just sayin'.
I'm just visualizing telling my future children this instead of the usual things parents say, like you're unique, the way you are now won't matter later in life, etc. And I just can't do it, poor kids' heads will probably explode. I think I see why it would be a bad idea to tell malleable minds such a thing.- jdh24, on 07/06/2008, -5/+7actually there's no such thing as the root of all evil. wanting to be rich is not evil, and i'm sick of hearing that.
- Disease, on 07/06/2008, -1/+3That's just what poor people say.
- Antwan718, on 07/07/2008, -4/+3Money is the source of happyness, do you know any poor people that are happy (look at Africa.)
- Rheic, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3@Antwan718.. what are you talking about? Whenever I see documentaries about African communities or tribes or anything that's not about starvation, they're all smiling and laughing and playing and working together as a community and look a hundred times happier than anyone in the west. As long as people's basic human needs are fulfilled, they have the potential to be happy, money has nothing to do with it.
- jdh24, on 07/06/2008, -8/+1more ***** advice and tips that actually have no relevance
buried: inaccurate and stupid.- AlexanderBlue, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Wrong. Car size IS inversely related to driver intellect.
- bluebettle, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2It's more of that cynical "everybody around me is stupid" attitude I hate.
Really, I can't understand how some people walk around thinking that everyone else out there is evil, shallow people who would walk over their corpse to get a parking spot.
Is it because no stranger has ever shown the kindness, or because they just want to hold on to their bitter, cynical world view because it makes them feel superior to other people?
- Floomdesk, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2very true, digging this hopefully results in a better world... if people aren't just being with watching their favourite sitcoms
- Tossrock, on 07/07/2008, -1/+3Fun fact: If you visit http://www.viruscomix.com/page343.html (Which is between the numerically between the first two pages but not linked anywhere), there's a handy index where you can just open each comic in a new tab to beat the load times.
- Useight, on 07/07/2008, -7/+0I hope you mean "open each comic in a new window." Worthless tabs.
- Iztikeit, on 07/07/2008, -0/+0If you're angst ridden and unable to look past human biology.
- JoCliMe, on 07/06/2008, -1/+10Yes, but whoever said money is the root of all evil?
- Tribunis, on 07/06/2008, -2/+117Why go through life to learn all of these lessons, just read it here!
- Nauru, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4That's pretty much the average digger's philosophy.
- kcorbo, on 07/06/2008, -3/+95Wait a second, there are poor people in Africa?
- ayeroxor, on 07/06/2008, -5/+8What the hell are people doing in Africa? Why can't they leave like everyone else did?
- blinktude, on 07/06/2008, -9/+2yea I thought black people are in Africa
- AlexanderBlue, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6Nope. Nothing to see here. Move along. Please go back to watching TV.
- liteoff646, on 07/07/2008, -0/+0and America and Canada and Asia and Latin America and.......
- t3hmyth, on 07/06/2008, -2/+160Great, the cynicism has made me slighly depressed. However, it's too true to ignore. Dugg.
- RoflCoptah, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4yea, i think i might just go lie down and be very still... that way i wont bother anyone and no one can bother me. EVER.
- Zaggynl, on 07/07/2008, -1/+3To counter sadness: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5BxymuiAxQ

"Car size is inversely proportional to the intellect of the driver. Get a bike."- stklaw, on 07/06/2008, -1/+45If I have no car, then I have infinity intelligence.
BAM!- megostylez, on 07/07/2008, -1/+36infinite?
- einrobstein, on 07/07/2008, -1/+22stklaw obviously owns a car.
- Phyraxus, on 07/07/2008, -0/+11So, you own a semi?
- cdahlkvist, on 07/07/2008, -1/+3No. It means you're poor. Didn't you read the comic?
- elislider, on 07/07/2008, -4/+5however the majority of guys on motorcycles are dumb macho guys, either because they have tattoos and ride hogs, or ride crotch rockets
unless we're talking about bicycles here. most everyone i know that rides a bicycle is at least halfway a quality person- hotpuck6, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1but they are still better drivers than any dumb ***** in an SUV.
You find me a guy who drives a hog and doesn't look before changing lanes, and i'll find you a flesh pancake.
- hotpuck6, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1but they are still better drivers than any dumb ***** in an SUV.
- provendelusion, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Fat people need loving too.
- stklaw, on 07/06/2008, -1/+45If I have no car, then I have infinity intelligence.
- WallnutBoy, on 07/06/2008, -15/+3What's the point.. -_-
- Nexusmonkey, on 07/06/2008, -11/+3All true.
- AsianChopsticks, on 07/06/2008, -0/+84A little cynicism is healthy for everyone.

...
Once every couple of years.
- bosssmiley, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Good song that.
- stonebear, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3I believe you meant to say that a little skepticism is healthy for everyone. Cynicism is a pathology.
Dugg for teh furry though.
- Palfo, on 07/06/2008, -1/+5Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)
- Monkofdoom, on 07/06/2008, -11/+19There are roughly 75,000,000 people in Ethiopia, it would be cheaper to send them to the moon than give them a couple of thousand dollars each.
Oh wait, we already sent them didn't we?- guybrush58, on 07/07/2008, -1/+13"International quoted price for sending items into Earth orbit is about US$20000 per kilogram" So I don't think that's accurate.
- Phyraxus, on 07/07/2008, -0/+18They would have to be very malnourished in order for it to work.
- Drugx2, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1your forgetting that you can cram a whole lot of them in one shuttle, and can cut cost by ignoring safety checks, quality materials, food, supplies, air, etc. :D
- cardshark69, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1yeah no *****!
i saw that comment and thought *****
thank you for clearing it up guybrush
- lisavilisa, on 07/07/2008, -0/+0sent them to the moon or sent them money?
- CoolBluReason, on 07/07/2008, -0/+9No, we sent them to planet Marklar.
Your Marklar is Marklar. - Viriatus2, on 07/07/2008, -3/+4yeah we sent them money but they bought AK-47's instead of food and medicine, go figure...
- MrPingu, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Im guessing that has something to do with the lack of education?
- guybrush58, on 07/07/2008, -1/+13"International quoted price for sending items into Earth orbit is about US$20000 per kilogram" So I don't think that's accurate.
- joechapada, on 07/06/2008, -21/+7***** furries
- funkyjunk3, on 07/06/2008, -4/+4really, what do comic animals have to do with the furry sub-culture?

- amilo000, on 07/06/2008, -25/+19Nice to see a comic on digg thats not comedic.
(No XKCD fans, I'm not saying I don't like XKCD I'm just saying its a good change seeing meaningful stuff in comic form)- MozzieTS, on 07/07/2008, -4/+2I dont like XKCD, the guy is a creep
- parkermauney, on 07/07/2008, -1/+3"Nice to see a comic on digg thats not comedic."
I see one on digg about twice a week...
- daxsymbiont, on 07/06/2008, -19/+4***** pessimism.
- cl2yp71c, on 07/06/2008, -6/+5Reality≠Pessimism
- ayeroxor, on 07/06/2008, -6/+5Pessimists always say they're just being realistic. It's about as transparent as when someone says "Now I'm not a racist, but..."
- wanzedk, on 07/06/2008, -4/+8Pessimists are just optimists with experience.
- FreshPineSent, on 07/07/2008, -4/+4Whores are just your mom with less experience.
- cl2yp71c, on 07/06/2008, -6/+5Reality≠Pessimism
- BradOFarrell, on 07/06/2008, -21/+5Not particularly insightful. And it reads like a teenager message board rant in pseudo-deep Post Secret phrasing accompanied by stupid illustrations. Weak-sauce.
- saisumimen, on 07/06/2008, -3/+10Ugh. Buried for using the phrase "weak-sauce".
- ElJif, on 07/06/2008, -13/+3"Love is like a grocery store apple...look all you want but you'll never find one without a huge dent in it" I beg to differ: http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee58/BiiNABABiE ...
- cl2yp71c, on 07/06/2008, -6/+10Can't cook is one dent.
An IQ lower than a 5 year old's is another.- Ghorkvos, on 07/06/2008, -4/+16Just because some one is 5 doesn't mean their IQ is low.
- exomni, on 07/06/2008, -6/+6Why are people burying Ghorkvos?
You IQ =/= your intelligence, nor does it attempt to measure your intelligence; it is merely a measurement of your mental age (actual intelligence) over your physical (actual chronological) age. If a 5 year old were as smart as a 5 year old, she would have an IQ of 100. If she were as smart as a 6 year old she'd have an IQ of 120. She'd only have to be as smart as a 10 year old to have an IQ of 300.
If a 5 year old were half as smart as cl2yp71c, she'd have an IQ of 170.
But as cl2yp71 didn't know that, I'd say he has the IQ of a rock. - cl2yp71c, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1http://xkcd.com/386/
- exomni, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2@ cl2yp71c's xkcd reference:
Coming from the one who originally criticized ElJif's comment, I hope you see the irony in this situation. - cl2yp71c, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Discussing babes and pointing out that someone is wrong are two different things.
=]
- ZimbuTheMonkey, on 07/06/2008, -1/+4Might wanna look up the definition of the word.
But while we're at it with your interpretation, check the large pink text at the bottom right, there's your dent right there. - phybere, on 07/06/2008, -2/+4Clearly you didn't notice the text that says "I can cook only Hot Pockets and Eggo Waffles"
- apzdsx, on 07/06/2008, -3/+2I have it on good authority that she's a dude.
- BedPost, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Better: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elisha_cuthbert
"Cuthbert, who enjoys painting,[22] is a devoted ice hockey fan..." Yeahh... that's about as close to perfect as it gets I think.- CrunkeD, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1She has a dent in her chin.
- ayeroxor, on 07/06/2008, -2/+3Ick. Nasty ***** tattoos all over is a really great sign of some serious mental issues.
- tyywebb, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2I don't see any tatoos.
- ayeroxor, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2Her name is Megan Fox. She's got stupid little bits of middle-schooler "poetry" scribbled all over her body like she's somebody's scratch paper.
http://tinyurl.com/5gvt6b
Everyone around her obviously tries to get her to cover it up as much as possible, unless they're trying to focus on it like she's some "bad ass" and not just a head case.
- cl2yp71c, on 07/06/2008, -6/+10Can't cook is one dent.
- daxsymbiont, on 07/06/2008, -9/+3at a point he promotes nastiness.
nasty. - gridbread, on 07/06/2008, -5/+13I wish I had this book when I was younger.
- spidoman, on 07/07/2008, -1/+5Really? I kinda liked having hope in the world when I was younger. In fact I still have some now! Silly me.
- leejarratt, on 07/06/2008, -7/+1After I went through the comic, I realized I'm more depressed than before reading it. Thanks Digg (y)
- leejarratt, on 07/06/2008, -2/+1To the people who buried this comment, you should learn to not take this seriously. I'm not depressed and I like Digg, I am a regular visitor of the site.
- daxsymbiont, on 07/06/2008, -10/+1Reality check does not have to be pessimistic.
this strip is. - HBNDonut, on 07/06/2008, -12/+6They honestly expect people to click their way through this thing? It takes forever for the next page to load...

- GorfTron, on 07/06/2008, -6/+61Bah... Here are what "they" don't teach in school(overtly).
#1 Being good is not the same as being submissive. Quite the opposite, actually.
#2 Fight for what is rightfully yours.
#3 When someone is screwing you over, make sure they draw back a bloody stump.
#4 Rule 3 is to be enjoyed.- tyywebb, on 07/06/2008, -0/+9What about Rule 34?
- FLarsen, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3I think that is meant to be enjoyed as well. Of course, that is a whole lot more subjective.
- BoneheadFarker, on 07/07/2008, -1/+5If you didn't enjoy it, you wouldn't be looking for it. Unless you're just morbid and bored one day. I swear, I honestly didn't realize there was such a thing as monkey bukkake porn...
- starquake, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Oh if I only could forget what I just read...
- sirlancelot88, on 07/07/2008, -4/+2Are you some disaffected male trying to rage against the world? Here's a hint: Fight Club and 300 aren't real. You need to lay off the neuroticism and aggression and learn to deal sociably with other people.
- GorfTron, on 07/07/2008, -2/+1Pussy.
- hotpuck6, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1Those are some of the most basic rules behind patriotism. If you think people who stand for themselves and fight for their rights are all neurotic aggressive assholes you're just going to get trampled and are calling the forefathers of America a bunch of macho *****.
- cardshark69, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1rule #3 & #4 are a bit sociopathic
i agree with the first two though lol
- tyywebb, on 07/06/2008, -0/+9What about Rule 34?
- furman, on 07/06/2008, -23/+1to long, did not read

- aukxsona, on 07/06/2008, -1/+11Awe poor mouse.
- BoneheadFarker, on 07/07/2008, -0/+16That's just spurred me to become more cynical and bitter. When you just don't care anymore, people start bothering you less.
I'm so lonely... - Tyrghast, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2I was about to say that's how my family is. My dad says one wrong word and they both explode. The funny thing is, he's supposed to be an elder in our church, a paragon of morality and christ-like behavior.
- doublebummer, on 07/07/2008, -1/+8You forgot to capitalize the first word of your sentence dumb ass.
- unitedatheism, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1The story of your life(lives) are the "wealth" comic, but they live far away, so it doesn't concern you nearly as half as people picking up on you.
- Weekapaugr00ve, on 07/06/2008, -2/+23well that was thoroughly depressing...
- smurf22, on 07/06/2008, -14/+2I agree with this comic except the short part. So far I've only been approached by tall women (mostly), and I'm currently dating someone who is 5' 8" while I'm 5' 7"
This whole list really seems like it's just out of some 18 year old emo kids diary.- Issius, on 07/06/2008, -2/+1What a coincidence! IM 5'8"!
- getontop, on 07/06/2008, -2/+15OMG she's a whole inch taller than you!! how do you do it?!
- smurf22, on 07/06/2008, -5/+1Well do you expect me to say yes to someone who is 6 feet? That would just look weird.
- TomRemixed, on 07/06/2008, -2/+6Tallest smurf I've heard of...
- garlicdeath, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1A whole inch, you sure showed that comic.
- svensksvamp, on 07/06/2008, -4/+2these are some of the best advices out there. I wish I knew em' when I was growing up.
- RaDeus, on 07/06/2008, -4/+40why, oh why did they go with the one-item-a-page design, makes me sad............
- stevan2002, on 07/06/2008, -1/+5guess they learned a valuable live lesson
- ileftfark, on 07/06/2008, -5/+18I bet this guy is a hoot at parties!

- Gioleb, on 07/07/2008, -3/+3Plus, they're Canadian.
- bman85, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1HAHA ***** hilarious.
Although i really don't have a huge problem with Nickelback... just mediocre mainstream music as far as i'm concerned...ive got some on my ipod, i dont listen to it much, but its there.

- apersaud, on 07/06/2008, -2/+7I wish it came as a children storybook so I can buy it for my kids. It is interesting how all these 'insights' are universal, meaning no matter the generation - they still will hold true.
- hojin994, on 07/06/2008, -2/+6So the more evil you are, the more important you are to society??
Sounds about right. - woofers07, on 07/06/2008, -4/+45As a tall guy, I definitely DON'T like tall women.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 07/06/2008, -3/+30As a tall guy I really wish I could see the comic so that I could know what you're talking about.
- chilipeppers4u, on 07/06/2008, -7/+32hey - don't discriminate against women based on height! You have the option of dating short women - As a tall girl I don't really have the option of dating short guys!
- Lawrencesss, on 07/06/2008, -3/+33A woman on digg? Sound the alarms.
- PhantomRogue, on 07/06/2008, -0/+13Height discriminator!
- melissa1031, on 07/06/2008, -2/+4true. i'm only 5'4 so i've dated short and tall guys... and i digg the tall ones.
- bitt3n, on 07/06/2008, -0/+27sure you do. you just prefer not to.
- rgodfrey, on 07/06/2008, -0/+16Why don't you have the option? Plenty of guys like taller women, present company included. Or is there some other reason?
- Meekro, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Yes, you do.
- yahoofrom, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4Hey don't discriminate against man based on height!.
You wouldn't date Dennis Kucinich?
- colonelpanic414, on 07/07/2008, -6/+1Short chicks rock. My girlfriend is a few inches shorter than I am, and I'm only 5 ft 7 in myself.
in b4 'you're on digg, no girlfriend' - yonis, on 07/07/2008, -1/+26I'm 6' 6" and I date someone who's 5' 2".
http://flickr.com/photos/rickyromero/188592444/siz ...- ryansimbalist, on 07/07/2008, -13/+1If you turn out to be ugly, everyone will like you because you're worse-looking than them. However, nobody will love you because you're worse-looking then them. This will result in a bitter, lonely existence.
- blanketfury, on 07/07/2008, -0/+10she's short enough to be mistaken for your little sister
- atezun, on 07/07/2008, -0/+13AHHH! Burn the tie-dyed hippy!
- grantmoore3d, on 07/07/2008, -1/+6Dude, do you realize what people can do with this image.... there's this program called Photoshop and it allows you to....
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 07/07/2008, -7/+11She's really cute... but you're an ugly *****.
- Zaggynl, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4That's awesome :D
- volonix, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3So are you PhoenixAvatar, difference is he has the balls to post his picture. Oh, and he could probably throw you 30 feet with one hand. Stfu.
- eviljolly, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2I'm 6' 6" as well, with a little more meat on my bones though. I once dated a girl under 5 feet. That was....akward....and yes, only one date :P 5' 2" would be in the borderline acceptable range. Personality goes a long way though :)
@grantmoore3d I don't think he really cares. Why should he? - magicalhobo, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1I would love to see you slip on the linoleum floor in your socks. Please get on this...
- ryansimbalist, on 07/07/2008, -13/+1If you turn out to be ugly, everyone will like you because you're worse-looking than them. However, nobody will love you because you're worse-looking then them. This will result in a bitter, lonely existence.
- jascination, on 07/07/2008, -3/+14To add to the "tall people do date short people" pile, I'm 6'3" and my girlfriend is 5'4". I know LOTS of tall guys, and I doubt any would have a problem with dating short women.
BUT, and this is a big but, I know a lot of tall women and not a SINGLE one would date a short guy. I think its one of the very rare instances where women are actually more superficial than men.- InfernoX, on 07/07/2008, -0/+18"I think it's one of the very rare instances where women are actually more superficial than men."
Wait... What? Women invented superficial. - yahoofrom, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Dennis Kucinich!

- spidoman, on 07/07/2008, -0/+12>As a tall guy, I definitely DON'T like tall women.
Well you should go for tall women, leave the short girls for the short guys! I'll bite your balls if I have to, won't even have to bend down!

OH GOD I'M SO LONELY - bman85, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Agreed - being tall isn't all its cracked up to be, I'm 6'6"... i think I scare people.
But i have gone out with mostly short chicks for some reason... just the way the cookie crumbles.
Although the girl I just went out with last week was 5'10", i was pretty happy about that. And with heals she was over 6'...good stuff :)

- TalkingBanana, on 07/06/2008, -9/+4Was it really ***** necessary to put all those panels on different pages? The only reason I could muscle through the long loading times was because it was very funny, but I cannot in good conscience digg this because of the atrocious layout. Its a ***** shame.

- danibobanny, on 07/06/2008, -2/+6You have to admit, though, it is fun to ridicule.
- passedoutghost, on 07/07/2008, -0/+0I follow Oscar Wilde's philosophy: "life is too serious to be taken seriously" which masks the fact that I'm just a screw up :D
- jdh24, on 07/06/2008, -11/+2you don't want a mirror. this was a waste of my time. but of course diggers eat it up.

- spidoman, on 07/07/2008, -1/+11Why not just show him Schindler's List? There is a reason most young people don't need to know this stuff when they're young.
- litothegreat, on 07/07/2008, -4/+3why should a child grow up not knowing how cruel the world really is? so that when he/she is a teenager and ***** finally hits the fan the first thing they turn to is suicide? protective parents do more harm to a child then good.
- spidoman, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Here's a news flash kids are treated stupid because they are stupid, not as an insult, but as a simple fact their brains are not as advanced as an adults.
- nukemunky, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3It looks like the author is willing to sell a physical copy of some of his works. All you need to do is let him know which one you want.
- Codik, on 07/06/2008, -18/+15This is cynical and wrong. For one I'm 6 4 and have nearly only dates fairly short women.
As to "we are responsible for poverty in Africa" this is ridiculous. Wealth is created, you can make more or less of it. Do you truly think that the ancient Greeks were responsible for the comparative poverty of the native Indians?
Also, you'll find that those who reach the top are actually nice. Mostly because you can't make it on your own. Failure makes you bitter and "evil".- Solsies, on 07/06/2008, -8/+3you just failed hard
- shoveitfatty, on 07/06/2008, -2/+6I'm 5'9" and I wont look twice at men who are the same height/shorter than I am. I've dated two men who were within an inch or two of my height and I could never wear heels when I went out with them. I tower over the damn countryside in heels.
- wrathofg0d, on 07/07/2008, -3/+11judging by your profile pic you aren't attractive so no big loss
- rgodfrey, on 07/07/2008, -2/+6At least you're honest about how shallow you are.
- SothaSil, on 07/06/2008, -1/+4http://www.pbs.org/gunsgermssteel/
The novel (and subsequent show with the same title) Guns, Germs, & Steel describes *why* certain cultures were less advanced (such as the Native Americans of North and South America, and why Indo-European culture thrived and created an "advanced" civilization "quicker" than other continents with the Native Americans, and the continent of Africa. And thus why there is a difference in material wealth.
I totally agree with the above poster, although I think it has more to do with the "Guns, Germs, & Steel" cause, than anything else.
And although this *is* cynical, it isn't necessarily "wrong", to someone out there, this is dead-on right. - megostylez, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Yeah that is because on average it is always the man that is taller, which severely limits the amount of women i can date being 5'7'' ... in conclusion... stay away from my short women :(
- Versh, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6Exactly! This comic is filled with tired cliched sayings, and instead of addressing them, it reinforces what the original premise set out to disclose. But judging from the other comics hosted on the site, I guess one shouldn't expect much.
Sotha Sil is right about the Jared Diamond book-- civilizations thrive best under the correct doses of climate, agriculture and cultural identity-- but I don't think the comic is insinuating that other people are responsible for Africa's plight, it's just a criticism on the lack attention toward their problems.
The morality of this comic is too bitter and pessimistic for my tastes-- and for the thousandth time, money is not the root of all evil! - raquel9e, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1You have "we are responsible for poverty in Africa" in quotes and yet that phrase doesn't appear in this comic at all. From what I see, the sentiment isn't even there.
