HowTo: Free and Huge custom poster for your wall
makeuseof.com — Here, I want to quickly illustrate how to create, huge(up to 20 meters), awesome looking, rasterized wall posters using previously mentioned Rasterbator. It ’s free and easy to use piece of software and the whole procedure won’t take you more then 5-10 min(not incl. poster printing and putting it on your wall). Enjoy!

"And Shepherds we shall be
For thee, my Lord, for thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand
Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In Nomeni Patri Et Fili Spiritus Sancti." - SillyRabbits, on 10/12/2007, -38/+6lol, I was going to ask who would actually consider this for a wall decoration, then I saw the motorcycle parked on the carpet and understood. :)
btw: doesn't MS Word do the same thing if you scale it properly? - zclip, on 10/12/2007, -40/+7dugg for the saints :)
- Tourniquet, on 10/12/2007, -10/+61You and your stupid ***** rope....
- Branyers, on 10/12/2007, -85/+112I guess I'm the only one who thinks Boondock Saints is quite possibly one of the worst films ever made - a complete Guy Ritchie ripoff and a tragedy that it actually gets compared to his (and Tarantino's) work.
Here, I'll do it for you already...
-200 digs - kypen, on 10/12/2007, -20/+89@branyers
I'll digg you up because:
a) You have your own opinion and a valid reason for it
b) You expressed it without sounding unreasonable
While I disagree, the fact people will you digg you down for your own opinion is quite sad... - rlg420, on 10/12/2007, -3/+50Just FYI. I found out about rasterbator about a year ago and thought it would be cool. I printed out the page, luckily on a laser so it was fairly quick. After that? It literally took me 4 HOURS to trim the pages and place them on the wall. Granted it was about 60 pages but seriously. Don't let the "5-10 minutes (not including printing and putting on the wall)" fool you. This is very time consuming.
- DrDabbles, on 10/12/2007, -37/+7@thcobbs
Clearly, you don't know anybody at or below poverty level. And blaming a record level of foreclosures simply on people living on credit they can't afford is _WAY_ over simplifying things. I know you have these utopian views you learned in Economics 101, and Political Science 101...but real world scenario here.
If you make $20,000 a year (before taxes, naturally), what can you afford? Housing? Transportation? Food? Now what happens if you throw a child into that mix? And I don't want to hear ANY ***** from ANY of you about how the poor shouldn't be having children. That's some Aryan-ass thinking that I've heard all too often, and it doesn't take into account the population of people that get laid off and have no workforce skills.
So, if you want to hear an independent person's idea on how to fix things, I'd be glad to share. Welfare reform that provides education to teach people new skills while providing the essentials a home needs. That's a start. Are you going to have people that abuse the system? Sure, but at least they'll have a PHD when they come out the other side. :-P - DrDabbles, on 10/12/2007, -18/+7Sorry. Digg that last one down. Firefox got a little confused and I didn't notice.
- mmazing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Yeah, I did this a few years back and made a giant futurama poster, it was around 112 pages I believe.
Took a VERY long time to trim and tape everything together, but turned out well, lucky for me, I could print at my University for free :D
If you do try this, I recommend doing everything in rows/columns, and then taping those together at the end to form the entire thing, it lets you get everything done on a small coffee table. - Al3x, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1nvm...dead mirror

http://www.photo-freeware.net/rasterbator.php - mraustin1337, on 10/12/2007, -12/+7Dugg for the application name. Rasterbator. Genius.
- DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12"I guess I'm the only one who thinks Boondock Saints is quite possibly one of the worst films ever made - a complete Guy Ritchie ripoff "
I'd call it a Tarantino rip-off (who rips off Asian cinema and 70s expoiltaion films) and like a copy machine, ripping-off a rip-off becomes a paler imitation each time it is done. But watch "Overnight", the "making-of" film and you'll see this thing was in the making long before anyone had heard of Guy Ritchie. - Nerfdude, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7do yourself a favor and tape all the sheets together to make one big poster. i made the mistake of attaching each sheet to the wall with thumbtacks, all evenly spaced 1/2" apart on all sides. and while it looked AWESOME, when it came down to move out of that apartment, it took me about 3 hours to remove all the thumbtacks, and an ungodly amount of time to patch all the holes...
- Branyers, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Even so, nothing can hide the fact that Troy Duffy is a horrible filmmaker. A porn star cameo does not a good movie make. He may have beat Ritchie to the game, but Ritchie humiliated Duffy AT the game.
- rrasco, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9you would be amazed at how many people keep bikes in their apts to keep them from being stolen.
WE CAN KILL EVERYBODY! - Branyers, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Oh, and for the record, Tarantino is not a rip-off. Ripoffs get lambasted. Tarantino has tastefully and rightfully joined his predecessors' sides. I'm certain Bruce Lee or his progeny would have been honored to appear in a Tarantino film.
- VaporBro, on 10/26/2007, -5/+2From the author:
"people, that’s not my bike, neither it’s my poster. I wanted to illustrate how good it can look.
Although, now I feel like showing off my Ducatti along with mine rasterbator creation. As soon as I get matching frames, I’ll post it on about page."
From me: Happy Bob Marley Birthday day by the way. I'm high as a kite. - rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28Dugg, but I still don't like the fact that these guys are using my name.

digging you all down for reply abuse. - MrSkrilla, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3free for image enhancement but it sure as hell isn't free to print a poster that big. You will use your whole ink cartridge which is like $20-30+
- Javi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2And that's the only safe place for it. If you're bike doesn't sleep in your apartment, it may not be there when you wake up.

- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+47If you want the best quallity outcome, always use the proper materials when you rasterbate.

:(
- Trihedralguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+87Good bye ink, I'll use the printer at school :P
- TheCount, on 10/12/2007, -0/+40Yeah, I don't know where they got "free" from.
Last I checked, Ink still cost 1000 times more than oil per barrel, and decent paper is just as expensive.
Printing at school or work is the only way this is free.
- TheCount, on 10/12/2007, -0/+40Yeah, I don't know where they got "free" from.

- sarahpalmer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37I fail to understand what this guy's "instructions" really add that you can't figure out by simply going to the rasterbator website.
- excalpius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It gets him ad dollars?
- gforce42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Rasterbator is a pretty cool app. Be prepared though, it takes a bit of time.
- zybch, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Only took about 20 seconds for a 5x6 page spread for me with the dot size set to 3mm.
- CapeKid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The above poster must not have cut the edges, me and my roomie here in college both made a raster and both took an assload of time. Mine is 4X3 sheets of an album cover.
- mendigg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0The author of clause has mentioned and has opened excellent and a vital topic presently. Clause is written interestingly and the main thing actual. The same theme on Russian sites: http://pivo.in.ua http://www.alcogol.kiev.ua

I think I've been on the internet too long, because someone having a picture ready just for that occasion isn't even surprising to me anymore.
- bboySNO, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Awesome! Now I can finally cover up my ugly kitchen cabinets.
- slickrate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13this is pretty old but it got me thinking digg should have an "cool applications" section dedicated to free software we all promote and suggest aside from the software news section which is more for news related stories
- duckfighter, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Great app, bad name... I almost didnt dare to look, thinking it wasn't SFW.

It was actually posted on Digg for a long time a go, but did not reach the front page. - MalTheObscure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I made one of these a year ago. It looks really cheap if you just hang the paper up after it's printed. For a little bit of cash you can buy some foamboard and some adhesive spray at a craft store and mount each piece. You get a pretty cool effect if you leave about half an inch between each section. Even if you decide not to mount it, at least use the rasterbator to crop the photo you're using. The example in the link is driving me crazy with that border.

- DoctorCal, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21I'm thinking of so may ways to use this unconventionally
- scramble the tiles in the grid on your wall
- leave gaps in your mounting (think missing teeth)
- leave gaps, and hang the missing tiles on an adjacent wall
- print several versions of the same image ($$$) with different contrast, blur effects, what have you, and intermix the tiles you hang from different versions of the image
- hang with each of the tiles in their proper location in the grid, but improperly oriented- v12ogy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Damn, I'm gonna have to do that. Thanks for the ideas.

- BlackCow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How much do you pay for ink jeez dude! Unless you are over paying at office max or something. Buy ink online and in bulk its much cheaper.
- Morph_Ball, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I used to rasterbate a lot, but now I have access to a wide-format printer, so there is no need to rasterbate. I can get posters whenever I want with it~

Just try it. You can confess at church afterward. - Tetranitrate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't think its for religious reasons; I think he just hates the mess. The last time he rasterbated his walls got all sticky.

- HydraulicToast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I have one of these on my wall, and while it is really cool, it definitely does not take 10 minutes, and its not free. The ink is costly, and you have to arrange the tiles, which can take time. Don't let that discourage you though, the final product is awesome.
