- SimianSamurai, on 10/24/2007, -12/+407oh man that's great. She's very attractive, and that's enough to keep my eyes off the actual article. Hell, the article is probably written by a feminist dogging on men for not paying attention... but how would I know? I'm busy...
- billyboobs34, on 10/24/2007, -198/+112Blog? What blog?
- macfanboi, on 10/12/2007, -144/+19Hubba Hubba!
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/24/2007, -19/+327"Blog? What blog?"
Hahaha! That's a good one!
I especially like the way that even though someone had already made it the same joke, you hijacked the first thread to make it look like you posted it first!
Good work, sir!- shbammusic, on 10/24/2007, -2/+0We have absolutely come a long ways from using the good old Smiley! With the new avatars available today, I hardly ever use the good old smiley. A newly released site www.thelolfamily.com allows users to create a 3D fully animated avatar (gender, color, clothes, accessories, hair, movement, dances) and add music and scenery to the 3D avatar. The personalized avatar called "LOLs" can then be used as emoticons and display pictures when chatting with friends! That's not all... users can email links to their own personalized animation, and can send them directly to mobile phones from "The LOL Family" website for use as video-tones! This site offers users many other ways to enjoy their personalized 3D avatars. "The LOLs" can be saved on your PC for use as wallpaper, screen savers, fun video media, animated giffs, etc. The animations created by the users can be posted on websites by copying and pasting the embedded codes. This site also allows you to create personal widgets, with your own 3D avatar/ "personalized LOL" on it, showing some of your personal information that you have chosen to display when you customize your widget, adding a picture of your personalized LOL! The widget can be posted on line, and allows friends to send you text messages, from wherever the widget is posted!! The LOL Family then sends a message to their members, (a notification email is sent to their primary email account, informing The LOL Family member that they have received a new message on www.thelolfamily.com This possibilities offered to users by "The LOL Family" are endless, and users can create and share as many personalized 3D avatars called "LOLs" as they want for free! You should absolutely check this out... I can say with certainty that you have not seen anything like this before!

hey, 'big girls need love too'. - theone3, on 10/12/2007, -7/+199She's definately attractive, but I think it's more creepy than anything. How am I supposed to read when she's staring straight at me, smiling and mouthing words...
Even weirder, none of the other reporters have moving avatars, it's just her. She must have consciously decided to take that video of herself, edit it, encode it, and put it right there on her blog, or have someone do it for her. Either way, it's freaking weird as hell. - polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -4/+92Notice it looks like she is saying something?

As a homosexual, I must say the girl is indeed attractive, but that's women for you huh? I'm also a pagan, so I find beauty in women no matter what. Only difference between me and the billions of others here is that I'm just not attracted :P
Funny as ***** though! - mv10, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32As loser as I might sound, I seriously couldnt read it. Her constant movement made me look at her.
Great Advertising - pile0nades, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19She's very beautiful, but i'ts distracting mostly because i'ts animated than how she looks.
- Catalyst, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Did anyone scroll down and check out Metaphors For The Ages?
A few of those made me laugh out loud.....
Oh ..... and the girl is SMOKIN HOT....... - sophiaperennis, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2She's incredibly hot at best.
- Phatt138, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35All ~1,300 of you need to back off.
She's obviously doing that for -my- benefit. Oh, and because news. - Monolith2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29I keep waiting for her to start stripping.
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14She was born when I was a sophomore in HIGH SCHOOL. Ouch.
- AriaStar, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8Article dogging men? Considering it's her work page, I'm somewhat surprised that her employers have no problem with her avatar's intentionally flirtatious tone. Looks-wise, she's actually rather bland, but the way she moves, laughs, and slightly puckers her lips are moves definitely intended to flirt. She's playing sex-appeal for popularity, and this isn't very professional behavior to reflect on AccuWeather.
Is it any wonder women have a harder time being taken seriously in the workplace? - EvolvedAnt, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2I don't think she is very attractive. Nor did I find her animated picture very distracting. I suppose I am so used to ignoring annoying ads and flash animation around content, that I just used the same technique on her face.
Then I started reading her blog and the first line was so boring I actualy found ads more entertaining... Actual blog opening line: "Have you ever wondered how migrating birds spend their days?"
Um... boring! Might as well look at the ads, oh whats this, an animated face of a semi attractive woman.. ok bored again, *clicks back button*
But to give a benifit of the doubt, I am sure that if I found the woman highly attractive or cute, it might have worked for me. She was neither in my opinion. - msipes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Kate Bilo I love you! =)

- dynacrylic, on 10/12/2007, -6/+109I didn't even read the article and I'll digg it just because of the avatar. She reminds me of a chick in a porn flick too- the eyes moving, constant swaying, winking, smiling, saying hi.
Gawd girls like that make me think that I'll never break from my typical techie-chick look (which is very bland). I'm jealous...
What was the article about anyway?- edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -133/+12Jealous? Don't be. Her face looks like it's made of plastic. She's genuinely not that attractive (to me at least. 'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder', and all that).
- nrvous250gt, on 10/12/2007, -14/+99beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder?

- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -15/+69I was able to pull myself away from the avatar long enough to copy/paste this, so we can read it without distraction.
Have you ever wondered how migrating birds spend their days? Probably not. Neither had I. Until I read this article.
This is the time of year when you start to notice the absence of birds, the summer air no longer filled with their endless chattering and singing. When the fall air invades, the birds make like wealthy retirees and head south. Wouldn't it be great if we could all just pack up and head south for the winter? "Hmm, it's getting a little cold out, guys. I think I'll be in Argentina for the next few months. See you in May! Oh, and I'll still have my job, right?"
But much like humans, it appears that birds cannot go for long periods of time without catching forty (or, in their case, nine) winks. Can you imagine driving from Canada to Colombia without sleeping? Impossible! Thrushes can't do it either, apparently. In yet another article from msn.com, we find out that birds have a proclivity for the awesome technique known as "power napping".
Scientists kept this species of thrush in captivity for a couple of months, and found that during their migratory period, they reverse their sleep patterns so they can sleep by day and be awake to fly at night. But the sleep patterns also changed in duration and intensity - it was found that birds nap for sometimes as little as nine seconds at a time, then resume their flight plan. An interesting idea, though not something I'd want the captain of my US Airways flight to Bermuda to do.
But think about it - everyone has seen large flocks of birds flying through the air, then suddenly all alighting on the tops of a few trees. Maybe this is when they nap? And then suddenly the leader says "alright, everybody up, we've got a few thousand miles 'til the next Holiday Inn"!
If you read the article, pay special attention to the part where it says birds can nap with one side of their brains. They shut one eye, and one half of their brains shut down, but the other eye is open and alert in case of predators. Can you imagine if we humans could do that? I could keep an eye on my mischevious little dog while sleeping, and none of my shoes would ever get ruined. Brilliant!

Pretty boring

Stop taking the attention away from the girl! - TGKnIght, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32Yeah she is pretty cute, but I think I want to see what your techie-chick look is like :) Can you make an animated flash thingy for us? Thanks!
- crosswick, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Wow. I think that's actually a pretty interesting article about how two hemispheres of a brain can function in such a detached, yet efficient manner. I'll pay a 100 whuffies to anyone who can write me a good follow-up on this, linking such biological mechanisms to the hypocrisy of today's politics. Or a good link on Icke's theory of left-brain dominance actually having some merit.
Apart from all this: wow girls, this seems to be a pretty great way of getting guys' attention! I say Bravo Kate Bilo. May I suggest Kilobeat as your new counterculture avatar. Rock on. - violentvinyl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@crosswick

Honey, you're preaching to the choir! Why doesn't geek chic extend to guys but not girls? Sigh..
And as a hetero chick, she still distracts me too. But it's really kind of creepy... I feel like hiding behind my chair to get away from her! - violentvinyl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19@ webbsk

I'm all for metasexual geek chicque :) Let's find a better definition/interface for that. - crosswick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Pretty amazing: although her videoblog bores me to tears (she literally spends 100+ multi-minute videos yapping about her upcoming root canal), she does mention having trouble with the difference between the metric and the imperial system. How very predictible from someone actually named Kilobeat :-)
She's one heck of a social networking meta-innovatrix.

In fact, if you watch Monday Night football or NBA games, they do the same thing with the players where they toss the ball around, smile, try to look serious, etc. and all I can think is how uncomfortable they all look. She's no different. It's a neat idea, but it seems too forced.

- intheory, on 10/12/2007, -8/+28 Kate Bilo
Kate Bilo was born on June 20, 1981 in Rochester NY. She grew up in upstate New York and Rockland County, NY, before moving to Phoenixville, PA, where she spent her teenage years. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Spanish and International Business from Penn State University.
Kate has always had a love of broadcasting and performing, and in her younger years this manifested itself in various ways: the broadcast announcements in high school, competing in pageants, and writing for her college newspaper. Kate started her career at AccuWeather in September 2004, originally working in the IT department but hoping eventually to take part in on-air television broadcasts. She began her television career in early 2005, thanks in part to the training of Expert Senior Meteorologist Bernie Rayno, and has since taken on several new television stations across the country in addition to being one of the main AccuWeather.com Wireless anchors. She can be seen on AccuWeather.com and Verizon V-Cast just about every day of the week! Kate is fluent in Spanish and also acts as a backup weather broadcaster for several Univision stations.
In addition to broadcasting, Kate has a love of writing, and is a published fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction writer. She speaks rudimentary French, Italian and Arabic, and would love to be fluent in at least five languages. She is also an accomplished cook and has a passion for fine wine. Feel free to email Kate at Bilo@accuweather.com to chat about weather, wine, or just about anything else!- wilsonics, on 10/12/2007, -2/+80Wow, you really liked that avatar, didn't you? ;)
- toxicredm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15She's from Rochester? Damn, why didn't she stay here and do the weather? Come home Kate! Come home!
- SolidSamus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+28Sounds like the perfect woman. She can say yes in several different languages, she can cook, she can write things to get you hot, she drinks (yes wine I know but still.) has good taste in alcohol (wine again), plus she worked in an IT department. The only unknown is if she can clean, but I think that comes with cooking.

- jocnnor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Am watching the Saving Daylight video....
She looks better with black hair. Plus, she just got new highlights in it...(she tells you all about it).
She...wont...shut...up. I am tempted to stab the monitor with a pen.
An example of what she talks about.
"blah blah blah blah ....I'm learning about time zones, well taking a geography class at Mississippi State and in my geography class we have to do these math problems which are confusing, such as If your plane takes off at such-n-such a time in this time zone, and crosses a time zone at such-n-such a time, what time do you land in Tokyo and things like that which just boggles the mind, its so confusing blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah...."
I encourage you to watch it...but only after removing any items from around you that you might stab yourself with. - nodnol, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I don't know...I got married in October for a similar reason. Nice weather, pretty colors. I don't see anything wrong with that -- especially since we had the wedding at a state park, in the woods. And my dress weighed about 50 lbs, so the cool weather was nice. I don't think that she sounds like an airhead b/c of her reasons for wanting an October wedding, I think it's because she talks like, you know, a valley girl? With lots of up-talking? Like, totally.
But speaking of goofy reasons to set the date: it was a toss up for us between 2 different days, and rather than a coin toss to pick, we chose Oct 4 b/c it was the anniversary of the Sputnik launch. - raisinbran, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1@tsaylor

- WarMace, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Yes, its shoulders up, and she is perfecting her "Im across the bar from you, hoping you notice me" look.
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9More's the pity.
- maklershed, on 10/12/2007, -17/+1Wow .. she lived like 15 minutes away from me (she lived in Phoenixville .. a small ***** coal town in the middle of absolutely nowhere).
From her bio:
Feel free to email Kate at Bilo@accuweather.com to chat about weather, wine, or just about anything else! - gabrielwalker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25This is what "Flashblock" was created for. - trigon77, on 10/12/2007, -14/+15I'm pretty sure this chick wants to do me
- Teaboy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8It's odd that she's basically not doing anything, but it is flirtatious.
- illegalchuck, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4It is almost like one of those first person interactive porn dvds that have in these booths down the street from my house....oh wait, did I just say that out loud?
- Horseshoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11if feminists ever wanted to communicate with the female kind, and deflect any male readers away from the column...
this is the way to go - GargantuanCoder, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15The On-Air Meteorologist is hotter hands down. http://vortex.accuweather.com/adc2004/pub/images/authors/blog_voss.jpg
- SimianSamurai, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12yeah true, but she's not shifting in her seat flirtatiously
- OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4I disagree. but I suppose it is more a matter of personal taste.
- clickwir, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5No, not even close in hotness. Good looking, but a 5 compared to Kate's 10.
- klugerama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Look, all I'm saying is why can't they battle for Sexiest Weathergirl in a no-holds-barred mud wrestling match?
Is that too much to ask? - superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I didn't know Odo ever had kids.
- dealsdealer, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Bill Clinton was seen lurking around .....
- floridiot, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8Oh man...she's aching for it..
- clickwir, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9No you are. Just look at her, she can get "it" whenever she wants "it".
- millpubco, on 10/12/2007, -10/+0I don't know much about Avatar...where's a good place to learn more?
PS...I liked it but not for a weather channel. - JCinDE, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5That is very distracting. Poor choice if you want people to actually read the articles.
- colinnowra, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Been a minute already and she still isn't flashing her boobs
- OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11so 'no digg' then?
- aschapm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8am i the only one who wants to know what exactly she did in her IT dept? and why more women like her aren't in mine?
- Norweed, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2....
- OmniMe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5animated flim-like avatars are uncalled for. something like this would distract me no matter what was over there.
- blackbeard123, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1i kept waiting for her to actually do something! its more distracting that she is moving than anything. things on paper dont normally move when you are reading
- OnyxTiger, on 10/25/2007, -6/+6LOL...wow..she's pretty damn charming. Wow.
I wonder if she knows she's been Dugg?
-OnyxTiger - Bronstone, on 10/25/2007, -5/+8She totally wants me. Was laughing at my jokes and everything. What's Spanish for "pearl necklace", Kate?
;) - arkmtech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Yes, she's hot and uber-flirty.
No, it's not a good site-design element IMO - in fact, it's horrible. Don't get me wrong - I applaud those who dare to experiment with new ways of presenting information online... I just think this is creepy, distracting, and a waste of bandwidth. - tropican8, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1IMO she looks better here: http://wwwa.accuweather.com/adc2004/pub/images/authors/column_bilo.jpg
- OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9She looks older than me in that picture, even though she is actually quite a bit younger than I am. The animated one is one of her better days. Although she looks a lot more professional in that pic. (which I'm sure is intentional)
- evileyetmc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I digress. She definitely looks better in the avatar.
