The 10 Worst-Selling Handhelds of All Time
gamepro.com — Nintendo has crushed a large majority of competing video game handhelds since first popularizing the platform over 20 years ago. Save only a handful (ba, dum, pah!), an overwhelming number of portables are commercial failures. Behold the mediocrity!

- NOAMattD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+32Fun little read, there were a couple on there I'd never even heard of.
- caddyalan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Why did I purchase the short-lived, very-little-software Tapwave Zodiac? Just for portable homebrew. It isn't as ergonomic as a certain Sony handheld, though... and I wish I could replace the Zodiac's internal battery.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Did an Zodiac owners ever get Linux installed on it? I remember there being a press conference where the devs showed it to be possible, but no information on how to achieve it.
Shame really, at the moment mine's relegated to remote control status for a mac mini - kibiz0r, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Zodiac owners, unite!
- smoothlou, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20Yes. Both of you. Unite.
- amoirae, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Quite a few of us own and love our Zodiacs.
I replaced my own battery with a higher capacity from Worcell. $55 gained me about 6-8 hours between recharges when doing video.
I was surprised to see how few were sold.
- amoirae, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Quite a few of us own and love our Zodiacs.
- smoothlou, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20Yes. Both of you. Unite.
- rarson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Man, I remember hearing about that thing. There was quite a bit of hype building up to it, and then it seemed to just disappear.
- dnehthend, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0I hated how the games weren't on a physical media, atleast mine weren't, I had to get them off of there website. It made/makes a great snes emulator though.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Most zodiac games came on standard 64meg SD cards but they were all garbage - between Spyhunter, Duke Nukem and Tony Hawk I had at least three minutes of fun
- themastersb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I have a Game Gear and it was anything but portable. 6 AA batteries = 1 hour play time. I havent used it in 10 years.
- Zbug, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I still use mine to this day. The home brew was amazing on it and it had a great community. There was every emulator it could handle, even PSX (though slow) Multi-player bluetooth Doom, Duke3D, Quake and Hexen, and a lot more. Now most of the games, even the ones that didn't come out yet are on C4P.com. Slick form factor, much smaller than a PSP, still love it.
- DryerCombo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Some cocksoaker stole mine about a year ago, I really wanted to tell him "I hope you enjoy your game system that I only I would be crazy enough to buy".
I swear if they would have tried to sell it back to me I would have taken them up on it. - Leonaken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I liked my Zodiac while it lasted. After my interest in it died (and its software support), I tried getting Little John Z working on it to no avail, and after that, put it in its box and placed it in my closet. Still there today.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Did an Zodiac owners ever get Linux installed on it? I remember there being a press conference where the devs showed it to be possible, but no information on how to achieve it.
- geekfrom99, on 10/10/2007, -0/+40the reason the gameboy micro failed was because everyone wanted a ds. why they released the gameboy micro after they released the ds i have no idea. although i was surprised to see that it did worse than the n-gage *shudder*.
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19At the time, Nintendo firmly believed that the DS was a "third platform" and not the successor of the Gameboy. The Gameboy Micro proved them wrong.
- jostheller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1a third platform that was backward compatible with the previous platform? Doesn't sound like a winner to me..
- fantasticFlan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Hedging their bets, if the DS bombed, they could've gone right back to the GBA.
- opnickc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13I love my GBM, and I actually bought it instead of a DS.
Small, Sleek, great screen, great battery life, and a fantastic game library. I'd argue the reason it failed was much more the cheaper GBASP which Nintendo continued to produce and market after the GBM, as well as a lack of marketing for the system. The DS is neat and all, but I've still got plenty of great games to get to on the GBA.
By the way, the Micro is only $50 at gamestop now. I'd highly recommend it :)- mokkos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I don't own it, but I have to agree that it's an awesome little thing. Screen is bright, the resolutions are actually the same (they just made the pixels smaller and closer together), and it fits in your pocket better (my ds lite is too big). Thanks for the GS tip, at 50 bucks, it's a nice bargain.
- SeBBBe, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I've got both the Micro and a DS.. And a DS Lite. But WTF were you thinking getting it instead of the DS??? Sure it's great for playing GBA games but there are so many awesome DS games :/ Get a DS if you havent already..
- techlinks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I like how they say "it forced gamers to upgrade to pesky adaptors not compatible with previous GBA hardware".
The adapter is included, just like every other rechargeable device out...oh...well, except, you know, that one with the i.- allisonaxe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1they mean the multiplayer cables. you had a choice: either a cable that could connect only to another GBM, or an adaptor which could connect to a standard GBA cable, but not to another GBM. that and a version of the wireless adaptor that looks like it would get in the way of the triggers when you wrap your hands around the thing.
I love mine, and prefer using it to playing gba games on the DS, but it won't play classic game boy or game boy color games, and it just won't do if you want to use it to trade pokemon, but for some single-player gba action, it can't be topped.
- allisonaxe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1they mean the multiplayer cables. you had a choice: either a cable that could connect only to another GBM, or an adaptor which could connect to a standard GBA cable, but not to another GBM. that and a version of the wireless adaptor that looks like it would get in the way of the triggers when you wrap your hands around the thing.
- geekfrom99, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1lol, i just went and bought one today for 40 bucks so i can play mother 3 (i dont have a ds)
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19At the time, Nintendo firmly believed that the DS was a "third platform" and not the successor of the Gameboy. The Gameboy Micro proved them wrong.
- stung47000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+42Dugg for the Atari Lynx, I had one. So much potential, so little software. Not to mention: too expensive.
- eexlebots, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I loved Chip's Challenge and a Blue Lighting, but I'll be damned if I can remember other awesome games for it.
WAIT! OK, Slime World and Klax and a *bad-ass version* of Shadow of the Beast. And, uh, I think that is it...?- PottsyNZ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I had the Lynx II, which was nice..but too little too late. Anyways..the great game for Lynx was Toki :)
- surasshu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I loved that little ol' guy. Klax was my life, and LOOK, Nintendo's started rotating their handheld too! They were ONTO something, dude.
- JagoX, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1Potential? At the size of the damn thing, the Lynx was too freakin' large. Just b/c you CAN make a portable almost as powerful as a at-home console doesn't mean you SHOULD.
*cough*sony*cough*- shadx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Too large? No....and considering when it came out....ahead of it's time I think. I still have mine in mint condition with about 7 games. I had the original but something happened to the screen so I sent it in and got a lynx 2 back instead. Still, great graphics, nice features (16bit, stereo, multiplayer link, ability to switch upside down depending on control preference) Oh well...
- JagoX, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1HAHAHAHA! Wow...now that is a first. The original Lynx was MASSIVE for a portable system...regardless of what era it was released in.
- shadx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Too large? No....and considering when it came out....ahead of it's time I think. I still have mine in mint condition with about 7 games. - Sphonix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I loved my lynx. I had about 7 or 8 games for it, and it was pretty good for what it was. The battery life blew, but I thought it was worth the money.
- FunkyPits, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3All I can say is 8 man (yes all my friends had one we represented 30% of their market share) battle royal on Todd's Adventure in Slime World was amazing. We used to sit at my friends parents kitchen table you would hear the megabomb start to beep and my friend start laughing before someone else would scream out in anger! God that game was great he actually bought 5 used ones and still has us over now and then. Was well ahead of its time and was pretty dang fun, oh and huge definitely huge.
- jacksons98, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2@FunkyPits Happy to know I wasn't the only one. That was good times, me and 3 of my friends use to do the same thing. That was one of the funnest times I ever had gaming. Slime World, great memories.
- eexlebots, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I loved Chip's Challenge and a Blue Lighting, but I'll be damned if I can remember other awesome games for it.
- doshindude, on 10/10/2007, -11/+4they forgot the virtual boy (although it wasn't really a handheld)
- rockwithme000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5They mention the Virtual Boy in Top 10 Worst Consoles.
- ChromaVita, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Top 10 Worst Faceheld Consoles
- Darrelc, on 10/10/2007, -8/+5The N Gage was great simply for the fact that as it was a series 60 Phone it could play just about any of the earlier consoles through emulators (Mega Drive / Gameboy / NES) and the design of the phone was perfect for it!
The N Gage and Sonic 1 2 and 3 Caused me to fail politics heh.
The taco thing was ***** too, I never talked like that, it was perfect to hold flat to your face.- rarson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3The N-Gage sucked balls. Oh, except for Sidetalkin'. RIP Sidetalkin'!
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12I loved my Nomad, but only because I would take it on long car trips with the family, plugged into the cigarette lighter. If I wanted to play Genesis games at home, I just used my real Genesis. The thing was fragile too, the screen's cracked and the second player port died quick.
- keithmcbride, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3yeah the nomad was pretty sweet if you never used batteries.
the NGPC was pretty cool too. there werent too many great 3rd party games, but it did have Sonic - funkydude101, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The Nomad rocked my world. But man did that thing eat through batteries. 3 hours on 4 AA's.
But still the only handheld where two people could play simultaneously! (Bomberman tournaments on the go!) - Dralite, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0I loved my nomad... sold it on ebay for $300... crazy, but sweet!
- keithmcbride, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3yeah the nomad was pretty sweet if you never used batteries.
- akshay626, on 10/10/2007, -3/+31Makes the PSP's 25 million sales look really good.
- LordSkywalker, on 10/10/2007, -6/+9Little optimistic. It's 22.5m.
http://vgchartz.com/ - ICSU, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4They are really good. It's the only hand-held that can somewhat compete with Nintendo.
- Gir53457, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5For me, The DS looked like a better portable console, because I already own loads of GBA games and the promise of the next series of Pokemon, Mario and portable RPGs and puzzle games. And if you look at it as a iPod replacement you get a bigger screen, but it lacks the storage and the iTunes support for clunky third party sync programs.
- jostheller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I own both... and prefer my PSP despite long load times and a weaker game line-up... The PSP is capable of so much more then the DS.
- LordSkywalker, on 10/10/2007, -6/+9Little optimistic. It's 22.5m.
- thisisacycle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14forgot gamepro even exists
- uberkling, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Last time I bought a Gamepro magazine, it had a fold-out Street Fighter 2 poster (For the SNES)...
- serend, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/item/The_Casualties_of_Christmas_Past.php
- compgeek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14dugg for the gamegear. I still have mine and play games like shinobi on it.
- fauxXenophanes, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3yeah, gamegear was great w/ color grafx when poor nintendo only had b&w (boo-hoo).
- TheWriteGuy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+30"The 10"? Wouldn't EVERY non-Nintendo handheld over the years be considered "worst-selling", except for the PSP?
- surasshu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6This is pretty close to all of them, so yeah I guess?
- Nefi, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2Every non-Nintendo handheld? Two words.
Virtual Boy.- prockcore, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6The virtual boy wasn't a handheld. It was a console.
- bobbyi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7You've got big ***** hands.
- surasshu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Aside from what these other commenters have said, what part about Virtual Boy is non-Nintendo?
- jostheller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I would consider a Virtual boy a handheld simply from the fact that it is portable. You can remove the stand and srtap to your head you know...
And I still own my Virtual Boy. Probably the biggest mistake Nintendo ever made...
- MedHead, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Eleven million GameGears isn't really that bad, and the GameBoy Micro is a Nintendo product. I don't understand your comment.
- jostheller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1delete
- GQCarrick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19I loved my Sega Game Gear. That thing was great, I even had the TV tuner, it was pretty badass. It was a nice system and had quite a few games. It did eat batteries quick but you could always buy an AC Adapter.
- zephc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Not as pimp as the TurboExpress - not that I could afford a TE at the time, but being able to play TG16 carts in a handheld was damn cool. Plus, the TE had the Gamyboy's nicer (IMO) form-factor.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11The best bit about the TV tuner is that you could get a game gear adapter for the mega drive and watch TV......ON YOUR TV!
So awesome! - ReCkLeSsX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Tell me about it!
- Toshibi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17I love my Gameboy Micro! The best part is that I can get games really cheap for it out of the bargain bin!
- plosfas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Seriosly the micro is a hidden gem. It's the only portable device that I have forgotten is in my pocket and at a price of $50.00 it was a steal. I think it failed becuase of lack of marketing. I have yet to meet a single non-geek to recognize it when I show it to them.
- SeBBBe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Oh yeah, my friends all thought it was awesome when I showed them.. They had no idea what it was.
- Tharcarious, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I loved the Neo-Geo pocket, only problem with it was no back light, and the nomad and gamegear were just before their times.
- smurf22, on 10/10/2007, -9/+1What about the virtual boy? That thing sucked balls.
- jonshipman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Luckily the Virtual boy wasn't a handheld because it wasn't held in the hand.
- rarson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Yeah, it wasn't a "handheld" but it was considered a portable. Although, as an owner of one (still got it in a closet somewhere), I'll be the first to admit that it's one of the bulkiest "portables" ever.
I suppose it's technically portable since you don't need a TV to play it... but you do need a table. - Nn010385, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Try staring into the damn thing long enough and see if it doesn't drop down into your hand.
- jostheller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1disagree... you could strap to your head, and the controller fit in your hand. It is portable... I consider it a handheld
- rarson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Yeah, it wasn't a "handheld" but it was considered a portable. Although, as an owner of one (still got it in a closet somewhere), I'll be the first to admit that it's one of the bulkiest "portables" ever.
- jonshipman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Luckily the Virtual boy wasn't a handheld because it wasn't held in the hand.
- destro713, on 10/10/2007, -11/+2"Rocked" the landscape "holding position"?
"Peep" the larger TV?
Buried for ***** writing and for boringly ranking them by sales figures rather than general awfulness. Any list of bad handhelds that has the GBA Micro but not the Virtual Boy is worthless.- jonshipman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Virtual boy had a controller and the unit sat in front of the viewer. You couldn't hold the virtual boy and play it at the same time (hindu deities excluded)
- rarson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Handheld 3D displays have yet to grace us with their presence. That was the only way to do it. It was still considered a "portable" though.
- jostheller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yes you could. The unit could come off its stand, and could strap to your face. It wasnt that heavy. its the only way I played Mario tennis.
- rarson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2This writing IS pretty bad.
"Released at a time when 3D graphics were standard, the Nomad suffered an early death..." More like, when 3D graphics were the hot new thing... in HOME CONSOLES. It was years after the Nomad that 3D graphics even appeared on handhelds.
- jonshipman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Virtual boy had a controller and the unit sat in front of the viewer. You couldn't hold the virtual boy and play it at the same time (hindu deities excluded)
- whatthefu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I liked my Sega Nomad :(
- scabbers, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Gizmondo, the only entity to suck worse than Gizmodo.
- theblindman2, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5I like Gizmodo... :(
- fenixconnektion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Brian "KAB-" Lam is totally vicious man. I'd watch your back.
- allywilson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I feel I need to apologise on behalf of the entire British nation for that...machine.
- jostheller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Did it ever work? All I knew about it was that it was a scam company that was made to rob investors of their money.... but did their side product in fact work?
- sakuraz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Everytime I read about something related to n-gage, I have this response.
"HA" - Worldchrisis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I had a Nomad and a Game.com. Game.com was trash, but I was like 8 at the time and it looked cool, Nomad was awesome though, dunno why it sold so poorly.
- JCDenton513, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I had the Game.com. It was pretty bad but I got it when it was about $20 with two games. It got it's use.
- TheWacoKid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I just traded one in a few months ago and got $10 for it. I think the girl at the store felt sorry for me.
- JCDenton513, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I had the Game.com. It was pretty bad but I got it when it was about $20 with two games. It got it's use.
- hiklan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Anyone remember the Atari lynx ad with kids skipping class, it was awesome
- mikewitt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I have a Game.Com It was awsome (At least I thought) when I bought it. Now it sits unused with 5 games (I'm both suprised and not really surprised at how few games there are/were).
I bought it when I was 11 for $270. A week later I wished I hadn't; know how long it takes to save up that kind of money when you're 11?- theblindman2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+74 Months, 13 days, 11 hours, 22 minutes...
- IheartZombies, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Not much better at 25
- SolidSamus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I have to admit...I had a Game.com...and I liked it...damn.
Well oh well we all learn right? Now if you excuse me I have to go find my Gizmodo...it's the *****. - provost, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1I so desperately wanted a turbo express that I ended up shoplifting one I remember.. that was about.. 15 years ago. It had full 16 bit color and sound. The thing was truly amazing. I could pop in bonks adventure or ninja spirit and play the same game on the same hu-card that went into the console system. I kept it long enough to buy a tv-tuner off of ebay 10 years later. I eventually sold it, but wow.. what a revolutionary system
- E7ernal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1hey - i've got a game.com. bought it from a second hand store for £15
- slackerxpc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I loved my game.com that thing was sick, the indy 500 game was the best
- floatingpoints, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4The nomad was wayyyy ahead of its time.
A portable genesis! I hated the genesis, but the thought of a truly portable system with that much power back in 1995 seemed amazing, and made me hope nintendo would follow suit with a portable SNES. - ocellnuri, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Another game.com user here... I was hella-young. The system was actually kinda strong, but the developers didn't know how to use it. There were a couple decent games in the works before Tiger pulled the plug on the platform. The system was a failure, but there was a surprisingly strong community that grew up around it, that was what I had the most fun with.
Did anyone else get a Game.com Pro? - MadGouki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1so you're telling me that i am one of the half a million people who own an atari linx? but paperboy was so awesome for its time!
- denob, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0Lol, a Gizmondo on ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Gizmondo_W0QQitemZ140142402843QQihZ004QQcategoryZ49230QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem - Zaetha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5GP32 and GP2X FTW!
- Decamate, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3No Bandai Wonderswan? Did they sell enough of those units in Japan to avoid this list?
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Gamepro is an American "magazine" so I guess they only covered handhelds released stateside.
Might be why they also missed the SwanCrystal, Game32, GP2X and XGP.
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Gamepro is an American "magazine" so I guess they only covered handhelds released stateside.
- Alexx3k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Man those gizmondo things were BAD. Anyone else remember that shop they had in central london? Must have cost a FORTUNE to setup. I remember walking in one day, looking around and thinking *oh my god* .... 6 months later when I walked down the same street, it was gone again without a trace. Figures.
- turquoisefish, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I went in the shop and was very close to buying one, but held off. Then Gizmondo went bust quite spectacularly, next time I was in London the shop was boarded up.
- celkin, on 10/10/2007, -4/+0I'm still waiting for Microsoft to release the portable ZuneBox game system to compete against PSP and DS.
- vincrap, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I had two Game Gears, a blue and a black one. I loved them both
- VirtualCtor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6LIAR! You loved the black one more than me!
- The Blue One
- VirtualCtor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6LIAR! You loved the black one more than me!
- bumblefoot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1wow im glad im not the only person who bought a game.com when i was like 10
i thought it was nifty lol - ukdave, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I knew them Ataris were going to be on there they sucked ass, Game Gears weren't too bad like, Dugg anyway.
- Notyavgkat, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Buried for actually thinking that Sweden actually has a mob, that does anything 'mobby' cmon get real
- SpoonMachine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I had a Game.com when I was about 8 years old. Seemed awesome at the time.
- twrife, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I loved my Game Gear. It was by far the coolest thing ever... When I got it..
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I had a Turbo Express, with the add-on TV tuner. It was great, except the screen was too small. Most games had a code-based save, and you could barely read the letters on the tiny screen. You had to guess on a few. I don't remember the battery life being as poor as they tell it.
- shadowspawn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The Sega CD... mine still works. I have the original uncut version of Night Trap, and Sonic CD, Sherlock Holmes, other games. My god I'm a geek collector... but my ***** still works and will never get on EBay.
- jasmus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have a... wait, no, I have 2 Mega CD's and they're far from handheld or portable. Besides that, the two huge power packs you needed to get the thing working wouldn't fit beside each other on a power point. Awesome. Dugg you up though, sega megadrive + Mega CD looks awesome (as it takes up about half of your living room).
- SonicAD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I had a Sega CDX (I believe it's called the Multi-Mega outside the US), and while it wasn't really a portable system, it could be used as a portable CD player. It had a place for batteries in the back and a small LCD display on the front. Given it cost $400 though, using it as a CD player was probably not a good idea, it's not something you'd want to lose.
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I have a JVC Wondermega and JVC X'Eye. If you still play Sega CD games, you might want to look into those (same system, different regions). They key thing is that they only need on power supply, use standard AV plugs and can play CD-Rs better than the original Sega CDs.

- ourhomeplanet, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I disagree with Game Gear being on that list. When it came out, it was better than any of its competition, and stayed that way for a long time. Hello Color display!!! and a display that you can see at night, without extra gadgetry (unlike the GameBoy). I still have it; it still works fine; and sometimes I take it out and play Sonic to reminisce the good old days of Sega (while it was ahead of the game).
- cuoops, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I liked my Gamegear. I turned it on a while back and the screen was messed up.
- johnboyjr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I had a Game.com but i forgot all about it untill i saw this.and i had a Nomad
- Godin7654, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1As a (proud-ish) owner of the Tapwave Zodiac, I can easily say that it kicks both the NDS' AND PSP's ass. The only exception being the analog stick, which goes berserk after only a year or 2.
- Yarnage, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I miss my Game.com :( That thing was fun!
- Swampthing, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4There's a major problem with the sale numbers: perspective. 10 years ago sales of videogame hardware were a helluva different than they are today with videogames sitting in every household. Gaming used to be a much smaller franchise and if something sold 1 million, it was a major deal. The DS has been a great hit TODAY, but I believe if you adjust those sales numbers based on the approximate gaming population at the time, you will see there are other handhelds which have sold competitively... The Lynx, for example, was a MAJOR hit in its day, and same for the Neo Geo Pocket and Game Gear. So please don't take the article for what it's worth... everything has to judged based on size of the gaming crowd at the time.
- 10goto10, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0There's a few missing on this list... The pirated Game Boy rip-off Mega Duck was put out by Sachen, a company that was miraculously never sued by Nintendo. It got distributed all over Europe, South America and Asia.
