A Better Power Supply Calculator
extreme.outervision.com — Wanting to build a new computer? Well your going to need a power supply big enough to handle all your new hardware. This site helps calculate how big of a power supply you need. And it's more up to date then the other site on Digg.

"it's more up to date than the other site"
x happened, thEn y happened.
x is greater thAn y. - quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3btw, good dig. ;-)
- Mike.Dunn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice...
- bytor7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very nice find.
- jiub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome find. Much more accurate then the last one. No way my system requires a 450W PSU. This gave me 304W.
- jc228, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This page doesn't work for me using Firefox. Had to open in IE. Other than that, it's good information to know. My system isn't even touching my 480W PSU. Nice.
- manvsmonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dang, suckaface. I sent this link in on that other PSU calculator submission in the comments. What craptacular odds.
- Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great stuff, and it doesn't overcalculate like most hardward sites do. My rec was 245 watts, and most hardware retailers have apps suggesting I use either a 400 or 450 for my configuration.
- RabidPuppet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Excellent tool and much improved. I like the added level of detail and the options for larger suystems (like with ten hard drives!). The only additional request I would have would be an option to produce a formatted print out with specified parameters.
- handeyman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"This page doesn't work for me using Firefox. Had to open in IE. Other than that, it's good information to know. My system isn't even touching my 480W PSU. Nice."
worked for me, u must be one of those idiots - khintzma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0How is this any different than what was featured on Diggnation a few weeks ago? In other words, this isn't new (at all).
- meyerj88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0damn i got some overkill if this is correct. it says i need only 303 watts and i have an antec true power 2.0 550w psu.
- TheGooseyOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i like how it factors in a CPU overclock....but it doesnt factor in a video card overclock
mine needs 387 watts, but i'd round that up to 400w with my GPU overclock and some other things it wouldn't let me put in
all running on a Antec TP 550w - PStamatiou, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0nice calculator but its a bit off..... my Shuttle XPC SN84G4v2 has a 240Watt PSU and the website said I needed 268 Watts.... also it doesn't have an option for SATA 10k RPM drives, such as the raptor, which are known to draw more watts than your standard 7200rpm sata drive
- UberGeekGamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"How is this any different than what was featured on Diggnation a few weeks ago?"
Well lets see... more CPU's, more Video cards with PCI-E, More HDD to add, more optical drives to add, can add USB/1394 devices, can add more then 3 fans, and it calcuates overclocking... - meed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Where are the options for on board devices? Personally I use on board audio and Ethernet. Eh, I still wish I had this tool a few months ago when I was dealing with Abit and a dead x700 card. Their Tech support refused to believe that my 420 watt psu was powerful enough, even though I only have on ide HDD and one dvd/cd rom drive.
- diecastbeatdown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is far more accurate than the one which made it big on digg earlier.
- CaptSnuffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My ***** power supply that came with the case is adequate!
I find that hard to believe. - vapidsquid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it's all about quality, not quantity.
- corebreach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is better than the other one, but maybe a little too high. I got 242, SPCR recommends about ~200 for my type of system. I'm running an 80% efficient SeaSonic 300 and it's working great though.
- link470, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very nice, good digg.
- ironbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Uh-oh. My iWill XP4's 150W power supply seems even wimpier now...
- Math-Sux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There's much more to a PS than the simply the wattage rating on the manufacturers sticker. Per rail voltage and output efficiency are my biggest concerns. I'm very partial to Enermax for these reasons. Nice calculator!
- LaPistola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well.. I am just getting a 550W even If I need a 400W
- tynin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice find. But ouch, I think I need to go get a bigger PSU now. Using 410watts at max load and only have a 430watt... might explain why my overclocks become unstable... hrmm.
- CompIsMyRx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haha, I put everything on with the highest Wattage and maxed it out (I realistically overclocked a server processor) at about 3,226 W.
- mnemonik23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Latest news:
1) Print page is on the way ;)
2) 10K SATA Raptors: WD740 consumes 12.5W, WD360 consumes 13.65W. Calculator has 13W listed for SATA which is ok.
3) New video cards have been added.
5) Subscription for the newsletter is 100% SPAM free (your emails WILL NOT be given away under any circumstances). Only news about eXtreme PSU Calculator updates (in the future it may contain some ads from online PC components retailers).
That's all for now folks ;) - mnemonik23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1New, 2.0 version, of eXtreme Power Supply Calculator has been released!
Key features:
- Brand new engine
- Fast load speed

- Jewsh, on 10/23/2007, -4/+0Dear, Joeware and Quasipalm i made this account just to tell u guys to shut the ***** up and to please stop harassing people about their punctuation and to tell you guys how much i hate you.
- t3chnomanc3r, on 03/11/2008, -1/+1Old dig, new find here. (small) Issue is for people looking for old ATX 1.x specs where knowing how much 5V rail amperage is needed is an imperative. Would not be a biggie if they'd just list the details for the parts selected rather than forcing $$$ for basic info!
NO DIG! - bambok25, on 04/07/2008, -0/+0Dig here. Pretty accurate results. To the above digger, if you eager to get amperage info, you can pay $1.99 for their pro version which has it.
- th3p3arl, on 04/19/2008, -0/+0Awesome find...and BTW it does work on Firefox
- Chadrew, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1Great tool.
- TenSecondEpic, on 08/15/2008, -0/+0Do any of you know how often people use the eXtreme Power Supply Calculator?
- bambok25, on 08/17/2008, -0/+0I update my pc 2-3 times per year and during that time I use PSU calculator a few times per day to figure out different configurations. I find myself use it at least 1-2 times a week even between upgrades :)
